Trish is an amazing stylist and I will definitely be back. I had been in a rough situation and my mental health/ hand injury had gotten in the way of taking care of myself. I booked for a wash + blow dry because I did not have the mental or physical capacity to perform those tasks on my own. She was extremely warm and welcoming and non judgmental. Plus she was able to see me same day when I booked last minute! Her hospitality was the best I have ever experienced at any salon. The complementary beverages during the styling process was another added bonus as well. She also answered any questions I had about my hair health and provided me with a lot of helpful information about my hair type in such a kind and considerate manner. The good part: I made an appointment two weeks ago. Bad part: Trish took 2 clients ahead of me while I was there at 12:45 and I left there at 5:35 pm. I was there for partial highlights, and I ended up seeing two people being serviced before myself. Being a nice person and all I said "I don't mind", but I figured I would still be able to leave before 5 to get my makeup done at home. I left with my hair damp, and no style but I was still charged FULL PRICE. Make that make sense. She insisted she wanted me to come in on Thursday or Friday for her to do a wash/dry + style. IM NOT GOING TO ACCOMMODATE FOR MY 5 HOURS OF TIME THAT I SPENT THERE BECAUSE SHE HAD WALK INS. I understand and know what it means to run a business but she should have prioritize myself with an appointment rather than those who came in. If you want to come in to a salon that does "meh" work come in here, but don't expect to have a great experience.. you'll spend more time in the chair waiting to be serviced while you watch other people go about their day. read more

I've been to salon flux four times now and each time I'm more convinced that I found "my salon". I had Virgin hair and Vanessa turned my black/dark dark brown frizzy think long hair to amazingness blond/golden Beyonce level ombré. I've gone back and had Lily do a whole lighten up with more golden highlights and rose gold/pink. Last night she worked her magic and did purple/silver tone/dusty pink highlights. She adds dimension to your colors and makes sure you're happy with what you get. On top of that, she's such a pleasure to chat with and is a great host, offering WINE while you sit. Ed works miracles. I have very dark - almost black - very thick Asian-textured hair that I like to experiment with, from long layers and an ombre to a pixie cut. My pixie finally grew into a nice bob, and pre-Ed, I added some bleach to a panel section of my hair, which I loved. But when I touched up my roots, my hair broke and so did my heart. I decided to try someone new, and when I met Ed, I let him know that I really would like to keep the bleach AND my hair. He accomplished both gracefully. After some time, I decided I wanted to bleach my whole thick-Asian textured head. Thanks to Ed's expertise, wit, and ability to make 16 hours (over two sessions) fly by, I surpassed the awkward anime orange color with awesome platinum blonde hair. With his advice, I used some major conditioning products, and I did not notice ANY breakage. He would text periodically to make sure my hair was still on my head. Bleaching black hair is not for the faint of heart (I'm pretty sure I almost passed out twice, and I would not let Ed run a brush through my head by the end) but he was always very attentive to make sure I did not implode. I'm now embarking on a trip through South America, and he's been with me to the last minute offering to darken my hair to an ashy-dark blonde 9 hours before my flight. Totally appreciate his customer service, friendship and amazing ability to know exactly how to take care of my hair. I've been going to Trish to style my locks for four years now, and each time I become more loyal. She is REALLY good at what she does, and she is determined to give you exactly what you want. I've never come out of an appointment with even one single negative thing to say. My hair is a BIG part of my style, and I'm such a perfectionist. The devil is in the details, but Trish is detail-oriented and extremely diligent so by the end of the appointment, you wont find a hair out of place. Literally. The BIGGEST comment I have to make on her skills is in regard to my most recent style: bright pink and purple all over color. I couldn't have imagined the depth and shine she achieved, even in my wildest great-hair dreams. I can't go anywhere new without tons of strangers raving about how amazing my hair color is. I even have had two different hairdressers ask me who did it because they are so impressed. She's not the cheapest hairdresser on the block, but she's the best, and she is SO worth it. As an undergrad, I don't have extra cash lying around to spend, but I never hesitate when it comes to Salon Flux because you get even more value than you're paying for. The service is great, the girls who work there are extremely friendly and fun, and the salon itself is very comfortable and stylish. They use the Mind Body scheduling system so you can easily make appointments online, and they also are a Perksville participant, so I've earned 50% off a haircut twice already, and I only go about 3 times a year! Also, they do complimentary bang/shave trims for those of us who have to quick-to-grow-out-around-the-face styles. I had forgotten what a good haircut was like. It just hasn't been my top priority. Because I'm in graduate school. So I've been going to these really cheap places which still somehow end up costing me and the haircut looks maybe, a little bit, kind of, sort of, So so okay when I leave. By the very next day, however, it's unmanageable and it grows out disastrously. The moral of the story is we get what we sign on for in life. Right? But we all have the ability to choose differently. And I chose to visit the chair of Ed Rittenhouse at Salon Flux. What a pleasure! He really knows his stuff. He is mindful and intentional about every scissor snip and really knows how to sculpt a head of hair. He has a great sense of hair aesthetics. And listens very closely to what you want and is able to turn your description into reality. And if you don't know what you want he has suggestions. The best news of all is that his haircuts grow out just beautifully. For like a month it looks like your hair has just been cut. Now I don't know if hairdressers are considered to have a bedside manners or if you're supposed to include that in a review but in this day of Robo calls and voicemails, when I get the opportunity to deal with a real person it's a special occasion. We are all so isolated in modern life and it's great to get something done in the context of a great conversation and a warm human experience. Ed is a good conversationalist. I'm notorious for changing hair salons because every now and then, it doesn't hurt to try someone/something new getting a new perspective in someone else's cutting style...(did I make sense?...you know what I mean) With that said, when I do find that stylist, I tend stay with them for a long time until they move or some other thing happens. I don't get my hair done too often but when I do, I'm picky about my hair being cut the right way. I first had my hair done with Trish...(I think?) a few years ago and was a pretty satisfied customer. I'm not sure my short absence but I came back. I like the fact that I can make appointments online and that they accept SpaFinder gift certificates. Then when I had to make an appointment for my daughter, we ended up with Lily doing her high lights and hair and came out beautifully done and very competitive rates for SF standard. A few months ago, we moved to the East Bay, needing a refresh/new cut, I was going to try to give one of the salons in my area the benefit of a doubt but my daughter and I quickly changed our minds..."let's go back to the city..." where I know for sure they will not "f*ck up" our hair. I made a last minute appointment recently for me and my daughter and Lily was able to accommodate both of us. As usual - very happy with the service (cut/highlights and cut) - able to exactly give my daughter the highlights she wanted. Her cut will last me for another 6-8 months. I've gone to Trish in total of 3 times now. I ended up here at Salon Flux on my first visit after seeing and purchasing the Bloomspot deal. Usually I do not buy salon deals since I've been going to the same hair salon for years (and love it!). However, when I saw the Salon Flux deal and knew it sounded familiar, I realized it was the same salon my cousin goes to (who always has great hair), so I decided to give it a try. First off, I love Trish' salon - small and simple, but the touches of decor and style make the space comfortable and fun. I love that she has a whole rack of magazines, great retail products you can purchase, and most of all, her chair/sinks. While you're getting your hair done, the sinks are right in front of you - when it's time to wash, Trish spins you around, dips you back, and you're good to go. You never have to leave your chair, walk around with wet hair, or switch to a different chair at the sink bowl which can often times be very uncomfortable. I thought this concept was awesome - not only is it smart/cool, very space saving too. Along with her salon, Trish is also amazing. Very friendly, talkative, and makes you feel like a friend in her home. Great hospitality. On top of it all, and most importantly, her skills are top notch- not only does she provide a great cut, she's great with color. Since I've been seeing her, she has been able to get my color to exactly where I want it. And even though my trip to the salon ends up being more complicated than the services I booked, Trish does it all with a smile. (My second appointment with her was 4.5 hours... oops!) Trish got it down perfectly - when I said I want my color to be a cool, in between light and medium brown. LOVING my hair once again! The products she carries are good too - I can't remember the name of the brand of the brushes right now, but I recently bought a ionic round brush from here and I LOVE IT - finally getting my hair to look the way I want it. The first thing she did was spend a good amount of time running her fingers through my hair to understand it's texture and natural part, etc. She was attentive and listened to my concerns - she didn't rush me. After a good convo, she made suggestions and made sure I was comfortable with what she was about to do. The hair washing and haircut were both amazing! Thankfully, she talked me out of getting bangs (not good for someone who wants low maintenance hair, even if it is all the rage). I found this salon through Yelp and I'm starting to think I shouldn't rely on Yelp anymore and should just go through word of mouth. I don't see what all the hype is with this salon. I had a haircut with Ed and it is very evident that he has not cut nor styled a lot of hair. Since Salon Flux's website does not mention pricing, I had to wait the day of my cut to ask how much the cost was. Ed, opening the door, said "$75". I was shocked. Because apparently on your first visit there's supposedly a discount. If $75 is already the discounted price, I definitely will not be back. Since it was $75 on the first visit, I think most, if not everyone, would think it will be a good haircut. Oh man, was I ever so wrong. Ed asked what I wanted and I didn't know. I wasn't a hair stylist. I just needed it cut. Then he proceeded and said he'd do layers on me. He washed my hair without a head massage (not that you need one, but with $75 I would kinda expect one) and even a beverage. Maybe I've just been spoiled by other hair salons. Ever felt when you're sitting in the chair that you don't realize that it's going to be a bad haircut until days later after your hair settled? At the time, I didn't think it was bad. Until he cut my bangs. He asked me if I wanted short or long bangs. Again, I'm not a hairstylist, I don't know what look would match my face shape but he randomly bunched of hair and literally butchered it. That was terrifying! Who bunches hair and then chops it off in one piece, especially bangs?!?! No one in my life has ever cut bangs in that way. Even on YouTube there are tutorials on how to cut your own bangs, and they don't even show you bunching up hair and then chopping it off in one piece without being mindful of where your mane is and where bangs actually need to be cut. It was also very lopsided because he just randomly bunched anything with a quick haste. I don't know where the other stylists or owners of this salon were when Ed was cutting hair. It was apparent and obvious that Ed was a very junior hair stylist (and a very expensive one) who needed a senior hairstylist or director giving him direction, suggestions, technique, and if the haircut will match their clients' face shape. You can't be a cookie cutter and put the same haircut on everybody that comes in. After my hair settled and after 3 weeks of the smells of products finally dissipating (really wished products didn't smell so bad or better yet - that stylists didn't use any kind of product), I noticed Ed cut a part of my mane to create these awful bangs that started feeling a little a mullet. Again, my bangs were lopsided because he just randomly bunched hair without actually thinking or being mindful. He also didn't take into consideration that the hair closest the mane needs to be longer than the actual bangs and "blend in" with the mane. Again, he needed direction by a much more experienced stylist. I also noticed that my haircut felt very basic and kind of choppy. I'm actually not high maintenance and just needed to get my hair cut because it was pretty damaged but if I'm going to be charged $75, I expected more. Then a few weeks later I get an obscure text message asking about my hair and if I wanted to come in. I just had my haircut, why would I need to cut it again so soon? I'm sorry but it's not like I would come back. Ed is also the only hairstylist that texts me to come in. Maybe this hair salon is financially hurting that they have to keep reaching out to their clients. Again, I'm sorry, but I won't be back as amazing as this salon seemed it was. read more

Made the hellish commute at rush hour, to get there and have another woman sitting in the chair and the hairdresser tell me that I had no appointment in the books. She seemed apologetic but was not the one who answered my call so couldn't really speak to the mistake. Really really immensely frustrating. Trisha was kind enough to apply my groupon credit and extend the 30% discout she offers to new clients. Unfortunately she over-processed my hair. What a nightmare. While her attempts at customer service were good, when I went back in to show her she offered a repair treatment. Obviously good for that one time but 5 days afterward when I finally washed and styled at home the frizz is back full force. I even asked if it needed cut, but she said no just a few snips.
