I went here desperate for an appointment back in February: it was Super Bowl week and we had a huge work event that evening and every single thing for me went wrong that day. I had no appointment since the day that I had unfolded in a way I couldn't predict, and when I spoke with the receptionist, she immediately squeezed in an appointment for me even though the salon was fully booked. It was something so small, but that act of kindness made me feel SO MUCH BETTER after an awful and stressful day. Perhaps having stayed in business so long, they may have finally figured it out, right? WRONG. Still horrible. For the price point, you are getting the absolute worst blowout. Kelly took over the appointment and she was very kind but the salon has an overall lack of care and attention to women of color who have textured hair and the training in doing hair is very much lacking. I'm disappointed and deeply saddened that something like this could happen in 2026. Kelly was amazing and very kind but Ana shouldn't have treated me like that and the vibes were very much off. I rarely complain, but I have tried to give this Drybar chance after chance and after the back and forth messaging with the salon this am, I'm not longer going to keep it to myself. this salon only has beginner stylist (confirmed by the other Drybar in the bay) and they have little to no experience with curly hair and try to charge you more. Every other salon I've been to, I've been out without the hour, this is the only salon I have had extended times with. i currently have a membership with Drybar and the cinema getting is that they want to charge more and say my hair is taking longer than normal, so they can get an extra 30+ off of the customer. I do not recommend this spot even though it's convenient and only location on SF. Terrible customer service. read more

I feel sad updating to an even worse review. I went back to dry bar because I have a super busy week and wanted to feel pretty and put together. I had great dry bar experiences for years before this location. After my last experience I should have known better, but I thought it might just be the one stylist. The stylist was so kind and personable but the blowout itself has really bad. I wish I had taken pictures immediately afterwards, but I could feel that my hair wasn't being combed through or held in tension, when my hair was done, it was still tangled. My hair was rough and there was a whole large uncurled section. I had to brush it out vigorously to make it look halfway decent and the texture is atrocious. It's super upsetting to pay about $100 for a beauty service and be left with lost time and hideous hair I actually had to go home to shower because I work in a public facing role and looked unpresentable. read more

I had a good overall experience at the salon. The stylist did a great job -- the quality of the service was solid and I was happy with the final result. For a first visit, the price felt justified. However, it was very cold inside the salon, which made the appointment a bit uncomfortable. Love this place. I've gotten about ten blowouts at this location, all by different girls, and they've all crushed it. Everyone has a slightly different style, and it's cool to see what they do. I wish I could give zero stars. Got my hair done for prom and my stylist repeatedly forgot the add one despite reminding her multiple times. My finished hair was not even fully dry. No heat protectant was used. She tugged and ripped at my hair and now there is visible breakage. We arrived as walk-ins yesterday. The front desk associate (with pink and blue hair) told us we could be seen at 5:45pm -- at the time it was 5:27pm. We waited, but at 5:44pm another associate (with short black pixie hair) came over and told us the soonest we could be serviced would be 7:00pm. When I asked about the discrepancy and mentioned we had been told 5:45pm, she responded, "I'm not sure who would tell you that." I asked if she could please look into what the mix-up was, but instead she walked away and sent a different associate over. That person then said the new time would actually be 6:45pm. When I asked her the same question, she also said, "Who told you that?" and I pointed to the front desk. At no point did anyone apologize or acknowledge the confusion. We were simply left waiting. As loyal customers of Blake Charles and Salon Nine, it makes it difficult to support a newer small business when the service and communication feel inconsistent in comparison. read more

I got my hair done by Stephanie last night. I had a rough week at work and I just felt like doing something nice for myself to feel pretty for the weekend. I saw a TikTok saying to ask for a round brush blowout and pin curls and Stephanie absolutely killed it. I literally had my dream Pinterest hair. People stopped me on the street on my walk back to my car to compliment my hair. It's safe to say I'll be coming to see Stephanie every Friday night for a weekend blowout. I scheduled an appointment several weeks in advance to have my hair styled for my SF City Hall wedding (just dry styled without wash). The online booking system was easy to use and also made it easy to reschedule (which I did with the time several times). I showed up for my appointment and had a short wait before being served. Unfortunately I didn't catch her name, but the staff who styled my hair did a stellar job and I got exactly what I asked for: the old fashioned for some classy glam. I was so happy my first time here was a great experience. The other hairdresser canceled on me so this was the last minute same-day fix that I could find. Quick 10 minute walk from work, I checked in with the receptionist at the front. They offer refreshments like tea and wine which is so cool. The hairstylist, Sayeed/Donald, called me and we started ON TIME!! Holy smokes, I cannot recall a time when that's ever happened to me. I was already psyched. Led me to the back where they have adjustable wash bowls which are perfect for a shorty like me. No need to stretch or prop myself on top of magazines! The wash was nice, smooth, and deliberate. And the water temperature was perfect throughout. Next was the blow out in the chair. You can choose and style from their book or explain what you want. Can even bring in your own products if you want!Only your shoulders are covered with a towel. Kinda wish they offered capes for your front too as hair goes everywhere. But he was extremely gentle while sectioning my hair and brushing making sure to get my natural hair straight. Yes, there are Black hairdressers there who can do Black hair!!! About an hour and silky press later I was done. Probably one of the fastest times I've ever gotten straightened while natural. For that alone, I'm definitely coming back. Now granted I will start with again with what repeated itself the first time... -The check in experience took extremely long. -The check in receptionist offered a beverage but again- never brought it. -Most of the clients seemed stressed because they were late again. So if you book here, make sure to give yourself at least 30 extra minutes to work with. -The check out experience was equally long. Now this second visit was fantastic. My stylist nailed the Mai Tai look. I. Love. It. So. Much. He was quick, friendly, outgoing. I couldn't have had a better experience. The location is bright and clean. Save your money. Give yourself blowout. Or spend slightly more and go somewhere else. Came here on a quiet Monday to get a blowout. I love getting blowouts and typically a low maintenance client. Got paired with Destiny. Seemed sweet but she had NO idea what she was doing. I could have given myself a better blowout. When shampooing my face was soaking wet from the faucet and she blamed the "shower head" It took her 1 hour 15 mins to create a frizzy mess when I asked for their signature straight up style. Then went on to flat ironed at the highest temp (straight smoking my hair) to just straighten it all. No where close to what I wanted and just a mess after 1.5 hours. Typically I am a low maintenance client who doesn't need flat iron finish (easy to blow dry hair fyi) and someone that gets blowouts every 2 weeks. SHOCKED this was my first dry bar experience and canceled my future appts given the lack of experience with this stylist. Shocked she is on the floor. Do better and don't put stylists that aren't ready on the floor. So bummed! read more

This location is the absolute worst of maybe 15 Drybar's I've visited in the past. The hosts are typically so rude. When I came in last for a pre-booked appointment (July 30 at 6pm) with Angelica (I had literally called the store and asked when Angelica was available and booked with her), I was assigned the wrong stylist. I have very curly textured hair and have had so many bad hair experiences at this location that I can't be assigned to just any stylist. I walked to the host and let her know there was a mistake and began to say there are two stylists I would go with, and she literally SHUSHED me and put her hand out with a shushing motion. Then she walked away, but didn't seem to actually attempt to remedy this issue. She waited like 5 minutes to correct the situation and when I said something to her about how this has happened at this location many times, the host literally just walked away. But I've been to this location maybe 50-100 times and I've never had more issues with bad or rude stylists / hosts, long wait times, cleanliness, and overall experience. This incident was my last straw and even though I live like 5 min from this location I'd rather drive an hour away to avoid the terribly rude and unprofessional people who work here. read more

I have been a Barfly for years now having first discovered Drybar here in San Francisco. I have visited many other locations and have really enjoyed it. In the last few months I've noticed a decline in the service at this location. They have cancelled my appointment about four times and with no notice. Today was the last straw. I took an Uber there because parking is ridiculous. And as I am close to the salon I get the phone call that they are canceling my appointment because my stylist went home sick. No we'll get you in with someone else just flat out we're cancelling. And I do agree with other reviews the front desk peeps can be short at times. My blow out was fine, it was functional, it was exactly what I expected for the price. The reason I'm giving two stars is for their asinine communication system. Shortly after I left the salon I tried calling them because I suspected I had left my makeup bag on the counter. The call went through to New York because apparently the employees in San Francisco or not trustworthy enough to have either phones or emails (!!) When I called, I spoke to somebody in New York who promised they would let San Francisco know and contact me if they found my make up bag. This happened about four times but I never received a call back and I never learned if they found my make up bag or not. As any woman knows, losing your makeup bag is EXPENSIVE and traumatizing. I don't get my hair done often, but I had heard a lot of great things about Drybar and wanted to give it a try before a wedding so I booked an appointment here on a Saturday morning. My appointment was at 10:45 and I even called and emailed to make sure I'd be out of there by 11:30/11:45, though when I got there I wasn't called to my chair until close to 11:15 and so the stress started. I have shoulder length hair and naturally have curls, so I told the hairdresser, who's name I forgot, that I wanted loose waves. I already thought I wasn't going to get what I wanted when she told me she had only been working there a couple months but I gave her benefit of the doubt. 11:30 my hair was half wet and half curled. I thought she would end up loosening it up but at 11:40 when my hair was still not fully dry I had to rush her up. I had to rush out of there at 11:50 with a head full of curls - sure, they looked nicer than my natural ones, but it didn't seem like she had any intention of even giving me the waves I was asking for! I had the same experience today that Elizabeth P. had.. I booked an appointment for a dry styling. I washed my hair and let it air dry. There was a tiny part of my hair that was a little damp - where the hair tie on my ponytail was. Anjelica used a blow dryer to spend 1-2 minutes getting my hair dry. Then she used a hair straightener. The whole process lasted less than 15 minutes. She didn't put any hair spray. She didn't leave my hair "styled" - she just took sections of my hair and straightened it. Then she charged me for a full blowout. With tip - $65. For 15 minutes, and a mediocre blowout. I have been a fan of Drybar and their products for many years now. And I must say I was not impressed with this location by any means. Not sure if they were short staffed on this particular day, but when I arrived there was not a single person working the front or there to great customers. I waited 20min until someone finally came out and got me checked in for my appointment. The salon itself looked run down and was not clean at all. I even witnessed two people who appeared to maybe be managers come in and wipe dust off shelves and product with their finger (keep your salon clean people!). Needless to say when I'm back in SF I will not be returning to this location. On a positive note. My stylist was Chan and she was amazing!! She's very educated on what products to use and got me in and out in just over an hour. (I have textured hair and my appointments take longer), which I appreciate! He knows how to make his guests feel welcomed. Our stylist Angelica did a fantastic job, my sisters blow out and curl looked amazing. We loved the VIP room as well. I scheduled a same day appointment online this morning. I initially wanted a wash and blowdry and there were no available appointments. So I looked up a dry styling appointment and there was availability at 12pm. I took it. I washed my hair at home and arrived at the salon around 12:15pm. I know I was a bit late. Thankfully, they took me in and hooked me up with Athena. My hair was still a little damp. She said they might have to charge extra and I was fine with that. Then she said my hair is ok and used just a curling iron. We had great conversation and she made my hair look so good! She put beautiful curls in and has lasted throughout this whole day. I checked out with no problem. I had a card on file so they said they would email me the receipt. Ok cool! I left the salon after just 20 minutes. The problem was when I reviewed the receipt via email. They charged me the full price for a full blowdry! That's $55! I was like hell no and called the salon immediately. Bimala answered the phone. I explained to her my concern and she couldn't really understand what my issue was. Finally she got it and said she'll go speak to Athena and will call me back. She called me back a few minutes later and stated Athena said she blowdried my hair. I said no; she only used a curling iron. Bimala was no help so I just said I'll email corporate and hung up. A few hours later, Fukayna called me to find out what happened. I explained to her one time and she just totally understood why I was a bit upset. She explained to me she'll refund the $55 and will charge me the lesser amount for just the dry styling service. Perfect! That's all I needed and appreciate the wonderful customer service Fukayna was able to provide. Athena was great too. I have no issue with her style. My main problem was being overcharged and glad they were able to resolve it. read more

Fabulous hair is so easy to achieve. Unless you're me, then it's not. Maybe I'm just helpless or plain lazy to deal with my stick straight Asian hair, I leave it to the pros to give me the amazing results I want for a night out on town -- with volume and soft curls. Alive, bouncy and touchable, I feel like pretty woman Julia Roberts walking down the street. (post makeover version!) My only gripe is they usually run late with appointments, so prepare to hang out for an extra 10 - 15mins. I've been to the Fillmore location as well and both places have NEVER been on time.
