I don't like to write bad reviews, but after thinking about the damage that was caused to my hair, I rather write a review so that this doesn't happen to anyone else.
I wanted to lighten my hair and decided to go back here to do it because they are familiar with the chemical process of magic sleek and it may interact with a lighting process. I met with Clara.
I told her I wanted to lighten my color to a brown. Not too dark. She asked me if I wanted it like my ends. I said no. I started with a very dark brown which looked black. Towards the ends, where the color was wearing, the color was reddish brown. A professional would take out color samples to get a clear picture of what a customer wants. She didn't do that. I thought, maybe she would show me a bit later.
I told her I got the magic sleek a year ago and I would like to get that or keratin again soon. I asked her if I lightened my hair would I be able to do that. She said I would be able to do it in a week after doing the color.
She said in order to lighten my hair she would have to bleach it and that the color would cost $350. I said okay, no problem. I told her I didn't want permanent color. I wanted a semi-permanent dye or a toner, something that would wash out over time. She didn't ask me any other questions. She just started the process.
My appointment was at 10:30am. By the time I walked out of there it was 3:30pm. I am telling you this just to give you an idea of how long the bleaching process took.
As she was putting the bleach in my hair, she asked me about previous treatments and bleaching. I told her I dye my hair regularly because I have grey. I did the magic sleek a year ago, and I did high lights almost two years ago. She shook her head and continued to put the bleach on my head. Applying, rubbing it in, and reapplying. She started from the ends and worked her way to the root. I thought, oh, that makes sense. Initially, I thought she was doing a good job.
After she applied the bleach to my entire head, I noticed my roots were yellow and the darker parts were shades of orange. I thought she would rinse my hair at that point, but for some reason she continued to apply more of the product. I'm wondering why and thinking, oh she must want to even out the color.
She applied more bleach, folded tin foil around it and then she and her assistant took blow dryers and manually applied heat to the tinfoil. At this point all of the alarm bells started going off in my head. I should have said something, but I decided to trust. She is the professional, right?
Finally she said, your hair is a little damaged, I am going to have to rinse the product out. At the sink she, after rinsing, she tells me she is applying the color. I'm thinking, Whaaaat???! She didn't show me any samples. I asked her what color she chose. She said "dark ash blonde". I do not look good in blonde. So, I spoke up and told her, "I never said I wanted blonde". I asked to see color samples. I showed her the color I desired, a medium ash brown. I told her that she could make it lighter brown throughout the rest of the head. She said she would put a toner. I said okay.
After the process she brings me back to the mirror. My roots were dark and the rest of my hair looked like it was bleached without color, orangey. She used a clear toner, not tinted. I also noticed, the damage. So much damage. My hair was breaking. It looked rubbery. When I pointed out the damage she tried to blame me. She said, oh well you did all those treatments and you didn't tell me. Internally, I was astonished and in complete disbelief. This was not true at all and she could have stopped the process at any point and she could have informed me if she thought the bleach was going to damage my hair.
I then had to state again, this is not what I want. I restated wanting the brown or lighter brown. So she then asked her assistant to apply the medium brown to the rest of my head at the mirror instead of at the sink. When she rinsed my hair out, much of it looked black, especially at the ends.
After blow drying, I could see so much breakage. It looked so bad. She asked me if I wanted her to trim my ends, but I was too afraid to have her do anything else to my hair.
It is now two days later and can see that while all of my hair is damaged, the worse part is toward the top where she was applying heat.
She charged me $250. I wanted to throw up. I expressed feeling this was unfair, given the damage. She stated that she was giving $100 off the initial prices.
Before I walked into this salon, my hair was beautiful. When I walked out, I had uneven color, brown, black, and blond patches, and my hair was fried.
