Worst service I've received in NYC. Food sucks. Drinks are overpriced. Staff is beyond rude. Wouldn't recommend.

Open window set up for grab and go beer and cocktails. Friendly bartender. Reasonably priced. Decent enough selection of brews. Beer was cold. Social distancing for the win. That's all I gotta say about that. read more

The food is generally great, with the poutine being a major standout. This was the first poutine I ever had, fifteen years ago, and it is still the highwater mark for me. The beer selection is vast, but I can't help wishing they had more local IPAs on the menu - take that Jai Alai off! We can get that anywhere. found this place in 2000 as I was looking at the neighborhood to possibly move. ended up moving nearby, this has become my sports bar and more. cool owners, great teams of fun and entertaining bartenders and staff thru the years. carried me thru covid year...met so many great folks, and more. nice variety of food, beyod just bar food... its my 2nd kitchen. Big fan of this place. I've been coming here for about 6-7 years, and it always hits right. It's a no frills neighborhood bar. They have rotating craft beers along with the big names if you aren't into craft, and their bourbon selection can sometimes be pretty good. Nice employees and nice owners. Diiiiiiive right in! This place is the dive of the UWS for me and countless others. The daily stream of regulars and newbies keep this place interesting, packed and a very social watering hole. A good place to have a bite and a drink, alone or with a group. This place looks small but it isn't and I'd strongly recommend bringing any size group in for a good time. Although the bathroom is tiny and can make anyone claustrophobic, it gets the job done. I cannot think of a time that I have not enjoyed myself here! It's a bar so I wouldn't bring kids, although I have seen some kids, with adults, at the booths during the day. Before you order look at the chalkboard with the extensive beer list!! read more

Dude, yes! Ate here earlier with a friend who recommended it. I had the bleu cheese and bacon burger cooked medium rare. Not only was the burger lusciously pink and cooked to perfection, but the seasoning was phenomenal too! Bacon was amazing as it was cooked through but not burnt. Onion rings were so light and well fried so they weren't greasy at all. The bourbon bbq chincken wings were delightful too! Great friends, great food and Toni, our server was amazing too! Pretty good bar, tons of seats, air conditioned, and they have relatively cheap drinks (if 6$ for a Guinness is cheap, that is). While the overall vibe is OK, though I have to say, the music is a bit too loud (even though they were playing some good stuff). Lost my voice a bit screaming back and forth at the table. Then again, I'm old, so perhaps it's just me and my crappy ears. As for the bartenders; they are hit and miss. For example, one guy who served us was quick, pleasant and personable. But there was also a female bartender there who was unbearably rude and dismissive. Bad experience with the management - went there on Tuesday night without knowing it was trivia night. They apparently have a $10 minimum per person if you want to play trivia. (side note:there were a fair number of empty seats so it wasn't totally packed). And I didn't want to drink too much so I decided to take a pause on ordering my next drink when a waitress cleared mine and other person's drinks away without our getting a chance to order another. Even though we weren't really playing trivia, the manager came up to our table and essentially threatened to kick us out if we didn't meet the $10 minimum, saying "We have to pay rent. And you guys were there at the beginning of the night and we gotta make money so if you're not drinking, we basically got no use for ya". While I understand that making ends meet in Manhattan as a business is tough, you just don't talk to paying customers that way. Won't be back, and suggest you don't go there either! Update after hearing back from the bar - I Was drinking that evening And met the $10 minimum, apparently just not fast enough for the management. First time here by myself. Was looking forward some hot wings close by and stopped in to get some. The atmosphere wasn't what I was expecting. I was a bit nervous going in alone, after all it was called "the Dive Bar" by surprisingly It was very friendly and open. The bartenders were especially friendly and warm. However, the food was not pleasing. It probably was because I took it home and the steam caused the wings and fried pickles to get real soggy. I'm always surprised by how much I like this place! I've lived in Manhattan Valley and Morninside Heights areas since moving to New York, and the bar selection up - at least if you want to have even a moderately positive experience - is grim. So this place is truly a breath of fresh air. I've been here on a number of occasions and it's always a different experience. On weeknights it's not hard to find a seat, but most recently I went on a Friday night around 8:30/9 and it was absolutely packed. I can only speak to the whiskeys and beer here - but both have yet to disappoint. My one complaint about last Friday is that my rye came in a tiny, warm glass. Firstly: I don't want a warm glass. I tend to like my rye neat or with one or two ice cubes, but I'm actually glad I got it on the rocks on this particular occasion. Otherwise, it probably would have been warm. And for a place with a fairly extensive whiskey/scotch selection I'd hope to get something at least resembling a whiskey glass. This is just a minor complaint though. Also - they gave us straws with our rye. Who drinks straight liquor with a straw? I suppose that's just their thing, but still a tad weird. So other than the small/warm glass with a straw to boot, I'd still give the drinks a solid four stars. They have Templeton, so can't knock them too much. Ambiance is great. The name of this place might drive people away (or, alternatively, attract a "divey" crowd, whatever that means), but this place isn't what I'd call a true dive bar. It's a great neighborhood hangout type of place. Good for small groups and great music. There was actually a group of maybe 10 people having a party with a buffet when I went on Friday. I wouldn't have taken note of this if they weren't all in pirate attire (not a typo...). I love that this is an option in my neighborhood. I'd like to avoid Columbia bars at all costs if I want to stay local, so this is a much better alternative. read more

I just moved into the neighborhood and saw this place. Figured it would be good to stop by for a burger, cold beer, and some playoff basketball on TV. I walked in, was totally ignored, finally asked the bartender if a seat at the bar was available given that there were two dirty glasses on the counter. He claimed that those customers had just left and that the seat was open. I stood around for a while before asking and can tell you that those dirty glasses were on the bar counter for a bit. In any case, I sit down and he tells me that he'll be right with me. Goes iff to the other side if the bar and does I don't know what. I sit there... waiting, waiting. Nothing. I tried to make eye contact with anyone to just put my order but no luck. After waiting a bit more, I decided to take my business elsewhere. I will not be returning... which is too bad because this would be the one place I'd become a regular. Problem with places like this, though, only the "regulars" get service. I came here due to my hostel being nearby on Amsterdam Ave and also because before making my trip to New York City i wanted to try Poutine. With the help of Yelp i found this place and it was a bonus since it was close to the place I was going to sleep. One afternoon around sunset time in the big apple I was happily walking down Amsterdam Ave towards the Dive Bar. I was happy i found it and i actually sat outside with the beautiful sunset of NYC. I knew what i was going to order so it would be faster but then the only downside of this trip was that it took a while just to bring poutine, but i understand. Pretty damn good place to catch your NFL Sunday football as they have all of the games playing on the many screens setup along the bar/restaurant. The beer selections that they have is a little overwhelming, but there's definitely something for everyone! The lobster mac and cheese is amazing here and would be something I would get again when I come here to watch another major sporting event. The other food items on the menu? The fries here are incredible, and the drinks are great too. I got the WAP (the Paloma), and it was great and very strong. The bartenders are excellent and very kind. The vibe of the bar is casual, laid back, and comfortable yet fun. Trivia nights on Tuesday are particularly fun. Lots of people come alone, and people come in groups as well. I will definitely be back. Not many bars have a full menu of high quality food like this one. I highly recommend this bar. read more

Dive Bar lives up to its name, but in the best possible way. It is unpretentious, comfortable, and has great food! I loved our server, Olivia, who took great care of us all night. Go early to get a good spot, especially on Trivia Night. This was one of the most efficient bar trivias I've ever experienced, and though we didn't win, we really enjoyed it. Really great sports bar for watching games and great food. We were in town visiting friends and wanted to watch the Final Four - our server was great. Although crowded and busy, she got our order right away. She recommended a vegetarian Ruben that was absolutely the best. The burgers were really great as were the fries. Great dive bar! Came here today with two friends to watch some football and I'd say it's a pretty good spot as they have many TVs that have all of the different games on. They have a great selection of beers, truly something for everyone. I had the buffalo chicken mac and cheese which was AMAZING. Perfectly cheesy with a nice kick and there was a good amount of chicken. My friends got nachos and one of the breakfast all day items and they both enjoyed it. Food took a while to come out but it was pretty packed so that was expected. It's pretty small so it felt a bit cramped but despite being really busy our drinks still came pretty fast and our waitress was great. This pains me to write such a negative review. I've been a loyal Dive Bar customer for almost a decade along with my family and friends. But the quality and service received yesterday was extremely disappointing. The manager tried to serve us wings that were sitting out in the open for 15 minutes after the waitress didn't think to check on our food. Even despite COVID, you don't treat customers that way-- but with our current environment under consideration, it made this situation even more upsetting. My girlfriend and I had to ask for new wings -- and minutes later we were served the same wings, that you could tell were warmed up but clearly not hot enough to constitute as fresh. It honestly felt like they were trying to pull a fast one on us. AND, having had these wings numerous times over the last decade, we got a terrible batch. Again, I've gone to Dive for years and have always had a great experience with the service and food. But yesterday afternoon's experience has really tainted my opinion and I hope that if I decide to go back, this gets reconciled. We also ordered a variety of cocktails, wines, and beers. For a "dive bar", they have a pretty good beer selection. All of this was had for not much money, either - very dive bar-ish. My review is only for the chicken fingers I got & NOT for drinks or much of the general experience. I came in on a weekday afternoon to use a birthday promotion while my husband was at work. The bartender at first told me I'd have to eat the free appetizer there but then said I could take it to go; that was nice of her. I also noticed that they have regulars since I saw people speaking to her & her speaking to them so I liked that aspect of the place. Now maybe it's because I had to reheat these later but my food was uneven. Some of the pieces were good but one tasted like pure grease. I don't know if they would have tasted better fresh but I wasn't impressed & probably wouldn't return unless they have karaoke nights without food/drink minimums or a crazy packed house. read more

Lobster mac n cheese!!! Came here after exploring Central Park and we were hungry. The lobster mac n cheese was perfect. So delicious! We also ordered the hummus plate and the wings. The hummus was flavorless and the wings were rubbery, but this place earns 3 stars anyway because of the happy hour specials, beer selection, overall atmosphere, and bartender attentiveness. The food was subpar, but hear me out. A server apparently didn't show up for his/her shift and the place was short staffed. This place was packed to the brim. We sat at the bar and watched the bartenders juggle tables and the bar, all while keeping a smile on their faces and making it work. I respected that. These bartenders and servers were hustling to make up for the missing server, yet we never had to wait too long for another beer. I was impressed by this and feel that it needs to be noted in this review. The happy hour special for beer was that $6 pints were $4, and $7 pints were $5. So if you want the HH special, be sure to order a $6-7 PINT. M ordered another beer served in another type glass so he didn't get the HH special. When HH ended, it was time for us to move on and bar hop down to Penn Station. We'd come back for HH in the future, but probably would hold off on eating. read more
