This was my first time with boat entry, open water warm dives, and I had the best time! The entire experience was great. Service: As this was part of a solo travel for me, I was in communication with the dive shop via WhatsApp to make sure that I was fully prepared. I felt very comfortable the entire time, and everything was explained clearly. All materials and great were prepped and ready for me upon arrival, and all staff members that I was interacting with were kind and welcoming. Experience: We did two dives, and had some discussion on the boat as to what we most wanted to see, to help determine the locations that we would travel to. We settled on Palancar Bricks for the first dive, and La Francesa for the second. There were 7 divers with 3 dive masters, so despite being a solo traveler, I felt like I had a ton of support. The overview of the dive sites before entry was great, because it primed me for some of the aquatic life that we would see. As my first warm water and coral reef dive, I can say that scuba diving is one of the great privileges of my life--I was overcome with emotion at seeing so much! Schools of small (young) fishes, corals, large organisms, sponges, nurse sharks, barracuda, a seahorse, a cozumel toad fish, giant parrot fish, and so many more! My initial experience was with Oscar, who was taking me through my AOW certification. Unreal experience, as I was able to get certified by completing my first two dives at Cozumel on Day 1, and my final three dives at Cenotes El Pit and Dos Ojos on Day 2. I appreciated the diverse diving experiences I had over the two days and Blue Life's communication, professionalism, and kindness. Blue Life had all my gear set-up for me when I arrived, walked me through the dives we'd be completing, refreshed on hand signals and diving best practices, which was exactly what I needed. Even though cenote diving was new to me, I felt very safe with Oscar as he helped me adjust all of my gear both before and during the dive. Food and transportation were included in the price and I was very thankful that everything was prepared for me. I went back to Blue Life a couple days later after Oscar recommended that I check out C-53, a sunken ship off the coast of Cozumel. This time I was with Tomas, who was equally as friendly and communicative about our dive plans. Not only did we see the sunken ship, but we also got a glance of a submarine that was piloting around the area! They were able to look me up in the computer and found my certification online and got me signed up right away so we were in the water the very next day. They lent us all equipment needed and the instruction was thorough and the instructor was kind and helped my son who was a first time scuba diver. It was a proud father son moment watching my boy check one off the bucket list to scuba dive for the first time and we got to scuba side by side. Booked this dive shop via RC for the Certified Scuba Dive excursion. The staff were all friendly…read moreand professional, the dive masters were very knowledgeable; an interesting fact, the water here has higher salinity which makes you more buoyant which in turn requires more weight to compensate, the aim is to be neutrally buoyant so you can hover. Normally I need ~20lbs, they calculated what I actually needed and they nailed it first time, no need for adjustment. For this trip, we were taken out and did a drift dive of two different reefs, both were incredible sights to see, and our guide showed us cool things along the way. Pictures and video don't do it justice, and words can't describe, you need to dive in and see for yourself.

Milan was the only good part of this experience and should be commended for his work and…read moreprofessionalism. He did the best he could to make our dive enjoyable. The equipment here is in terrible condition, they rent tanks, rather than servicing and supplying their own, and I had to go through 3 tanks on my first dive to find one that sealed. They do not provide a save-a-dive kit aboard the boat, nor do they even carry simple o-rings to replace the ones on the tanks, despite it being obvious that this is a regular issue. While I had my own wetsuit, no one else in the dive group did, and the ones they provided all had large holes on the shoulders and legs. They did not have enough fins, and tried to give a brand new diver a set of fins that would have surely fallen off the minute he got into the water. I was told that there were *just* enough weights, something that they should have in plentiful supply, but the instructor had to give me two from his own BCD so that I had enough. Worst of all, the pressure gauges did not read correctly, and the incorrect information displayed on the gauge caused me to completely run out of air at depth without warning. Another couple in the group had to share air, on the way to the decompression stop, again because of a false reading on his gauge. The boat captain and crewman did the bare minimum to assist, and seemed bothered by any request to hand items down to you. I have used 2 other dive shops that have show professionalism and customer service that put this location to shame. I will never use any of the ProDive shops based on my experience this trip. Follow up: A representative from Pro Dive reached out to me and said they are working to get new equipment for this location. I also received a full refund for both my dives.

When we got there the manager, Coliman, interrupted the girl at the front to tell us that the instructor (who was standing next to us) would not review the material with us all at once that we needed to go off and return when we had answered all the questions. Next, wreck diving was the only reason I chose this dive shop to the Advanced Open Water class. I informed the liason when I made the reservation this. She knew the days I was going to be there. When we got there, it was posted that wreck diving was only on Wednesdays. We arrived on Thursday. The only good part of the class was the instructor Sergio. He was relaxed and helpful. My BCD and equipment had issues but he was trying really hard to help me. I wanted to try to still my own Regulator with their BCD but the manager Coliman said it was a "policy" they could not put my equipment on theirs. I had to pay for their rental. Their equipment was frayed, and regulator dragged. This manager , Coliman, made this vacation dive much harder than it had to be. I was not allowed to take my camera on the dives since it was a class and I missed being able to take pictures of the sea turtles and octopus. We elected to go the Cenotes (fun dive to them) and we had a tech diver instructor, Kim, who was very good, I liked her a lot. She was frank and I liked that about her instructing style. I learned a lot from her. I had to make up a dive since my equipment failed and pay for it. I will not go through this dive shop in the future.

I did not appreciate the requirement to wear a life jacket in shallow water to snorkel with the turtles. The amount of people in the snorkeling areas was way too much. People were kicking up sand, flailing in the water and pushing people (me) to get in front of where any turtles were. It was extremely disappointing. The only reasons I got any photos was because I have a GoPro on a stick. I would NOT do the turtle thing again. I would however go scuba diving. That seemed like they took out small groups on small boats so it wouldn't be overcrowded.

The boats are small, with room for 8 or 9 divers. Back roll entries are required, as these boats aren't large enough for a dive platform. The boat captains were very good and able to deal with both calm and rough water efficiently. They also helped carry gear when needed, and helped divers deal with gear as they got on and off the boats. I observed ADS dive staff working with student divers, and they seemed patient and thorough (I'm a dive instructor myself, so I can recognize when other dive pros are doing a good job). Safety was a high priority. Overall, a great experience and we were glad to have a chance to dive with Blue Experience Diving and the Akumal Dive Shop.
