With our recent move to Elk Grove and the increase in commute time, I'm constantly trying to think of ways to effectively manage my time. Lately I have been taking my son to Clean up Nice Barbershop in South Sac. Although a good barbershop (please read my review), it's no longer in close proximity to my home. Fortunately, our home is located in close proximity to Diversity Barber Lounge. It's been roughly 10 years, but I've been to Diversity Barber Lounge when it was called Division 1 Barbershop (under different ownership). Back then it was a clean, family friendly barbershop with well skilled barbers (the owner of The Rich Barber Studio was once a barber at this shop). Fast forward to 2017, the barbershop is just as clean and family friendly as I remembered. When my son and I walked into the shop, the owner Kevin (alumni of Division 1 barbershop) quickly acknowledged us and assigned my son to a barber (Daniel) who was just adding the finishing touches to a client's haircut. Daniel introduced himself, inquired about my son's desired haircut style, and wasted no time getting to work. A half hour later, my son was admiring his clean taper in Daniel's mirror. During the entire haircut, Daniel was focused on cutting my son's hair (no mid-haircut 10 minute smoke breaks). As I mentioned earlier, the shop is "safe" for children. Therefore, you don't have to worry about your child (or children) leaving the shop with new, "creative" adult vocabulary. Daniel left such an impression on my son, that he specifically requested that Daniel provide him with his next haircut (I'm impressed that he actually remembered his name)! read more

A "cut" above the rest. What is one to do when you're in need of a cut badly but your regular barber is out of town? With no choice but to take a chance on a local barbershop and cross your fingers...and thats exactly what I did. After taking a suggestion from the good ol folks in the Yelp community I decided to give Diversity a chance - I'm glad I did. During my visit, no appointment, they gladly accepted my walk-in - also didn't have to wait that long for a barber. Gio was the free barber at the time so I went and jumped in his seat. No to be honest, reading some of the previous reviews though good - I remember seeing on specifically that said to avoid the seats in the back...an that's exactly where Gio was at that day. A bit afraid of the outcome, I avoided looking at any mirrors during my cut. After an hour of cutting - Gio finished and I was more than happy with the outcome. I loved the way my barber took his time to get the job done - not rushing to get to the next person at all. The attention to detail was evident - well worth the $25 cut + $5 tip! Be warned though - the previous reviews mentioned this being a "family" environment and though there wasn't any inappropriate conversation going on the music being played had plenty of profanity in it so if you plan on taking your little ones there just make sure to ask them to possibly change the content being played. read more

TLDR: Good guys but messed up my line up and shaved a part of my eyebrow It hurts to do this because all the guys there were pretty likeable. I got my haircut by Malik and since there was a line of people waiting I wanted to leave as soon as possible. So, I paid, said thank you, then left. As soon as I left I started to check out my hair and realize that the line up was completely messed up and one side was way further back than the other. I went to line up the lineup with my eyebrows and I realize that this guy shaved off the tip of my eyebrow which made it look even more uneven. My barber was a super nice guy but don't get a haircut from him. One star. I was hoping for something better read more

This is NOT a family friendly barbershop. Nice guys but they're somewhat thuggish. I walked into loud rap music with cursing. I should have left but I was desperate for a good cut for my teenage son. A different Barber named Luis literally began smoking weed. Our Barber Giovanni did a good fad but screwed up the top badly. He was supposed to fade sides, leave top long and curly. It was made clear to cut at Brow line. We even brought picture. Unfortunately, the cut was a complete disaster. The cut turned out an inch ABOVE brow. My kid looked like Lloyd from dumb & dumber. I'm not playing. I think he was high... My kid still won't go in public with his jacked up cut. It was embarrassing honestly. Very nice guy but I will never return. read more

I took my grandson to this barber shop yesterday for a fade cut. it was a walk-in appointment and the barber who cut my grandson's hair was clearly not experienced and did and did an absolutely horrible cut. A fade cut is relatively simple but it took the barber over an hour to do the cut and he had to solicit help from another barber to try to fix the horrible cut. While other barbers in the shop may be a little more experience, I would never go to this barber shop again nor recommend it to anyone. To hire such an inexperienced barber is indicative of poor management and ownership. read more

Love this place!! First time coming here to get my sons Afro back!! Nate answered the phone when I called to see if they can do Afros, and he insured me he can get the job done. I know when we walked in he seen his hair and thought he had a challenge on his hands and that he did!! Nate tackled his hair with no problem. My son was happy when we walked out. This was my first time actually coming into this barber shop. I've never really stopped by even though it's not even 3 minutes away from my house. I was considering a trim on my beard but decided to just get a clean shave. I walked in without an appointment and was taken care of immediately. My barber's name was Daniel and he was really cool and took good care of me. I really liked the time spent on my clean shave with a blade used to get every last hair on my face. It was only $25 for my shave. I highly recommend them. read more

I've been looking around for a solid place to get undercut cleaned up and was recommended this place. This place is near my house so I thought I'd check it out. First off, I went in and was not acknowledged at all. I sat there for 40 minutes waiting until someone acknowledged me, there was no one else waiting. Showed the barber what I wanted only to find out that they didn't do designs for undercuts. Out of all the people working, only ONE person does designs. I definitely will not be returning. They could have told me sooner instead of me wasting my time waiting only to find out that they don't do designs. read more

All I wanted was to touch up my undercut (I have shoulder-length hair). It would have been 15 minutes, tops. The older guy in the front was working on someone else, but asked back to the entire shop if anyone could take me. One guy was on his phone sitting in his chair saying loudly "Nope, not until after six, I'm booked up" but no one was there for him or in his chair (mind you, it's 12:00pm). Four other guys just sitting in the back, all "too busy." Another customer who was waiting and said I could take his spot, but his barber said he had two others waiting outside (no one was outside). Your customers are much nicer than your barbers, apparently. And yes, I'm a female, but I figured a barber shop would be a better place to go for what I needed. Too bad I'm a female and felt belittled, especially with the looks I was given when I walked in. If you're a female, definitely take your business somewhere else. And if you're a male who doesn't like when females are treated poorly, you should take your business elsewhere, too. read more

Save yourself! My husband spoke highly of this place when it was called "D1" a couple years back. He wanted to go there for a specific barber but to our surprise the name was changed to diversity barber Lounge and the barber moved back to Florida or something. Soooo boo! But my husband decided to still get serviced. It was my birthday so he just wanted to get his facial hair lined and tidy up for me... Hmmm... I didn't make a big deal about how horrible and botched the job was because I didn't wanna irritate him. (I usually am the 1 to clean up so I played the whole " why you didn't have me do it guilt card at first") So any way. The barbers name is Andre... I don't know if my husband happened to sneeze during the cut or what. Nothing was lined at all and his face was all cut up. I'm upset he isn't upset! It's just all bad. KC is amazing! He is quite a large individual, gold teeth and covered in tattoos but he is the only person my 3 year old will let cut his hair. My son use to be terrified of getting his hair cut, now he enjoys going. From our first visit KC made him very comfortable letting him hold the clippers so he knew they were nothing to be afraid of making him laugh and making it a fun experience (the lollypop at the end doesn't hurt either). Besides being extremely nice and friendly he does a great job cutting his hair, he listens to exactly what you want and his execution is flawless! Super clean fade and straight line. This is the only barbershop go to. They all cut great but DIZZY STANDS OUT. Been my barber for almost two years and the consistency of a great cut is always guaranteed. I wish I could Give it zero stars!!! We've made an appointment with Chris last week. We showed up and waited. We were never knowledged. After waiting 45 minutes, I asked him about our appointment. He pulls out a wrinkle piece of paper that was crumbled. Looked at it and said oh I thought your appointment was next week. Offered no apology. This must be the worst barbershop in California. I would usually go to my barber at Good Hands Barbershop in downtown Sacramento but I was out in Elk Grove. Took my Lil nephew to get a simple haircut. There was already 2 ppls waiting, so we took a seat. 2 hrs later and still no cut. They kept having ppl walk in and getting a cut b4 us. I don't mind waiting but someone should have let us know. All their barbers took forever to cut the ppl in their chair. I would not recommend going here unless u want to seat around. I would never go back to this place. I will report this to BBB. read more

Gave me the exact hair cut I wanted(medium to low fade, with the sides bald faded) never had it lined up the way he did it, looked really dope. This place is TERRIBLE. First of all I walk in and one of the barbers gives me a dirty look. Nobody greets me and then after some time goes by they let other people go before me who came after me. I saw some of the cuts while I was there and they were just like the customer service; AWFUL. Two barbers were just chillin when they could've been cutting my hair.
