Divina Matcha is the middle business in a set of three suites operated by the same owner on a block of 3rd Avenue in Chula Vista. This matcha tea shop is the newest of the trio and also the least furnished. There were three small tables and some stools for seating along with a countertop against one wall. No menu was posted, therefore you could view the selections only by using the self-service tablet at the service counter. Each drink was priced at $9. This was the most expensive I have seen in the SD area so far. The serving size was 16 oz which was typical for a matcha drink. I chose the Banana Matcha that had a house made banana puree added to the bottom of the cup and a brown sugar cloud as foam on the top. The matcha flavor was prominent while I could taste hints of the banana. What led me to lower my rating was the inconsistent hours of operation. On the front door, it stated the closing time was 7 pm. Both Google and Yelp indicated the business closes at 4 pm. I fed a parking meter with enough time so I could do some laptop work while sipping my beverage at the countertop. It was disappointing when the staff informed me they were shutting down the place at 3:00. Not only was I not able to complete my computer tasks, but I also wasted over half an hour of parking time because of the early closure. read more

really wanted to love this spot because I'm a huge fan of the original Mujer Divina Burrito & Coffee Shop. I stopped by on a Sunday mid-morning during the farmers market, so the area was busy and all three Divina restaurants had crowds. When I first walked in, the line was out the door and the cashier mentioned the wait would be about 15-20 minutes. I didn't have time to wait because I was heading to an appointment, so I left and returned later that same day. On my return, there was only one person in front of me. I ordered a Banana Matcha--one of their featured mini flavors--and waited about 10 minutes for my drink. When it came out, it had cookie crumble on top. I'm gluten intolerant, so I politely asked if it could be remade. The barista let me know the cookie had already fallen into the drink, so not only was the order incorrect, but it also posed a health risk for me. I understand mistakes happen and cross-contamination can occur anywhere, but the response felt very casual, as if it wasn't a big deal. As for the taste: the matcha itself was okay, but honestly not great. The banana mixture was way too thick and didn't blend well with the matcha, which made the drink chunky and difficult to sip through a straw. I've had matcha from several other local spots, and this one just didn't compare. Inside, the space is cute but not really designed for hanging out. It's more of a grab-and-go setup with a few standing bar counters. When it gets busy, it feels crowded quickly and not comfortable to enjoy a drink. Would I return? Maybe--if I happen to be nearby. But I wouldn't go out of my way. I hope they improve the recipe and consistency, because a matcha shouldn't be so thick that it doesn't mix smoothly. read more

Divina is branching out with this new spot wedged between Divina Coffee and Burritos and Divina Brunch Cafe in Chula Vista. The matcha here is great. They use a terrific ceremonial grade pure matcha with no additive, especially sweeteners, which I like very much. I had two match lattes from her thus far: the coco matcha with notes of coconut and the vanilla match that comes with a delicious vanilla foam on top. Although both were delicious, my favorite so far was the coco matcha. It was well balanced with a great clean matcha flavor and subtle hints of coconuts. The vanilla foam on the vanilla matcha was very good and not overly sweet as I prefer. I certainly look forward to trying strawberry matcha and banana matcha in the near future. The service was very friendly with good pleasantries and they offer inside and outside seating. It's a great place to have a nice match lattes or if you prefer something lighter, a matcha cloud or matcha spritz. read more

I wanted to try this matcha place because I haven't been able to find good matcha in the South Bay. I was completely disappointed. Customer service was great. They are very friendly and I go to the "regular" mujer divina coffee shop next door. The matcha I got was bad (Vanilla Matcha for $9. Which you had to Venmo the person). The flavor was bad. It tasted bitter and grassy. I could tell right away it wasn't made well by the color it had. The sprinkles on top threw me off. I took only a couple of sips and threw it away. I instead went to the farmers market and bought coffee at Romantics Coffee where they sell matcha from my favorite place, Holy Matcha. Maybe once they get everything up and running and enough staff they'll improve their matcha. read more

I showed up the day prior but by my own fault I didn't check the hours and they had closed 40 min prior that was my bad. I went again the following day and I ordered 3 drinks. I didn't necessarily like any of the drinks I ordered, I prefer a sweeter matcha that's just my preference. It took a while to get the drinks but then again I saw the man making our drinks back there cheffing it up with the whisk so that's valid. The only thing that struck me as kind of odd was when a young lady asked if they had any water and this is just me but it seemed like he was a little harsh in reply and told her to go next store as they don't offer water in the matcha location but then again I'm not sure so I don't want to put that all on him. The environment was a little messy, there's no trashcan so people just left their drinks on the tables but they were there before we got there and after we left so it struck me as a bit disorganized. Overall I probably wouldn't go here again but if you like it a bit more bitter or just slightly sweet this is your place. read more

I got the one that was Spritz that came with a cute lil frog figurine. The thing is... I'm not sure what was going on that day, but there was no one at the counter for a good ten minutes and I wasn't even the first person in line. I almost made my way out the door, but I waited patiently and soon enough someone hopped over from their sister business. Once I ordered my drink, one of the spritz options, I think perhaps they were training someone because they had to take a moment to show them how to make that specific drink. Their menu is limited but offers a decent amount of options. I ordered the strawberry matcha with oat milk and it takes about 5-7 mins to make since each drink is hand crafted. The total came to $10 and I was turned off by the steep price point, but the drink was quite tasty, bursting with an umami matcha flavor, the strawberry complimented the drink well with the perfect amount of sweetness. If you wish to substitute milk, an additional $1 is charged. While I understand that matcha can be expensive to purchase, I was surprised by the quality of the matcha. It appeared to be gritty and clumped, and the matcha notes were quite bitter sour. The strawberry matcha was particularly disappointing, as it lacked strawberry flavor. The banana matcha was relatively tolerable, as the banana taste was barely noticeable . Environment: Upon arrival, the establishment was empty. The initial interaction with the staff was alright in the beginning . However, the establishment has a weird way of paying if u don't have a physical card also NO APPLE PAY . Customers without physical cards are to Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or Cash App. This may seem unusual for a business in my opinion. Furthermore, there is no visible signage explaining how to do those payment options. To clarify, I inquired about the payment process for Venmo. The staff provided poor guidance, she didn't say anything to us and just tap it in herself on the self check tablet after we kindly asked her how to pay even though we were the only ones there she seemed in a rushed. customers using these payment methods must select "Pay Cash" instead of a card and it will print a receipt and then you proceed to pay with any of the apps. First I will start by saying that the iced Coconut Matcha with oatmilk was pretty good. However, $10 for a 16oz - ouch! Didn't see the prices because the menu is on a small sheet on a side wall and people were standing in front of it. No large board menus. It was our first time and though the matcha was good, I just think $10 is too much for a drink. $7-8 would be acceptable but not $10. What made the experience unworthy of a higher rating is the amount of time we waited to order. It was supposed to be open at 11:00am. We arrived at 11:45 and it still wasn't open. The staff at the sister coffee shop next door said it would open in 10 mins. We waited until 12:30 along with everyone else that was waiting and they finally opened. Yes, we definitely waited too long and should have just left but we wanted to give them a try. They looked they were scrambling to get it together.
