Since recently moving to Brooklyn, I have been shopping for a hair salon home. dont be fooled yelpers by the other high reviews as I was, this place is fine in a pinch but otherwise, try elsewhere. Well, I made my appointment over the phone, receptionist seemed nice but upon walking in the salon, 2 days later, no one greeted me upon walking in, everyone kept to themselves and while I was waiting to be service, I was looking at the hair of the women getting done before me and I was shocked that half of them were walking out of the salon w/ smile. the work looked unfinished. the stylist I had did not seem to know about hair care, I felt like my little cousin was doing my hair. overall disappointed, I will be going back to Evolution The Green room read more

I have been going to Divine Connection for one year now and I am happy. The first thing I liked about this place was the sign that states, No Children Allowed. I am tying to relax so I really do not feel the need to have kids yelling and running around me. I also like when I walk in the staff greets me by name. As soon I sit in the waiting area someone is ready to start my hair. I have done short hair cuts which seems to be their speciality and glue in and sewed weaves. The hair products are great and the way they weave it doesn't pull out my hair. My hair always looks good when I leave. Nicole, the owner, is very detailed and a pro when it comes to cutting hair. The gospel music is very relaxing and I love how they don't gossip and bad talk customers as soon as they turn their backs. The only thing is my hair is very thin so I wish Nicole and her staff catered more to consulting customers on how to improve their hair. I believe they are more concerned about finishing your hair at a set time to move on to the next person so time to talk and advise clients doesn't fit into the schedule. And if you decide you want to do another style instead of what you scheduled you are sure to make Nicole upset and she doesn't hesitate to say no. This is the approach that causes the wait to be short when you come in but I wish she was more approachable or flexible in this aspect. For now to avoid being barked at I just let her do her thing, my hair still looks good anyway. I wish they could also add a comment box so people can rate or write comments about how the new hairdressers in training do so that way they can learn from client's feed back. I am from from what some people consider 'a hair capital'-Atlanta! So moving to NYC amd trying to find something comparable was a daunting task. I have been to this salon at least 3 times an each time a different stylist does it. And they are all absolutely wonderful. Nicole is the owner. She has the best eye for styles and has knowledge of products and care tips to keep your hair healthy. The other stylist there are under her wing. Though she may not be styling your hair that particular day she makes sure that the other stylists, who are very professional and superbly trained, don't ruin your hair or the salons rep by checking in one you every now and then. You also can get great products from the store for home care. They always tell you how to keep your mane in shape til your next visit. I have always gotten compliments and head turns when leaving that salon. Came out looking so fly and fancy that I almost caused an accident, but considering this is NYC he might have just been a bad driver. It's a Christian atmosphere but not stuffy and judgmental. They have fun here. Laughter always fills the salon and the music is wonderful. There is a nice waiting area with not just hair magazines but books, coffee and tea. The salon takes credit cards also so you don't have to carry cash. The prices are moderate but when you come out looking like a movie star, you forget what you paid! The only complaint I have is that when I go to use the ladies room, there is no where to hang my purse. read more

I was looking for a new hair salon to take my daughter and was recommended by a friend who's hairstyle I absolutely loved. Of course I was skeptical going to a new salon and hoping that everything goes the way you want it to. I have been to places and prayed to get out of there with my hair in tact and my pockets not completely empty. My daughter had been going to Dominican hairstylists and honestly her hair what little bit she had left was suffering. I had to do something. Thank God I made the right decision. My daughter and I simply love Divine Connection. We were greeted with a professional manner. My daughter had a consultation and Nicole told me exactly what had been happening to her hair and what had to be done to correct it. The atmosphere is calm. There isn't any loud talking or ghetto behavior. You make an appointment and its kept. No waiting forever for a wash and set. Its a joy to be there. Next I know when my hair is done drying Im waiting for this lady n it's hour later. I just returned from two weeks in Africa and was desperate for a hair cut. Inspired by all the gorgeous hairstyles of the women in Kampala I decided to trade in my curly, natural 'do for a flat-ironed straight style. Eager to make the change I was delighted to be able to get a same-day appointment on a Saturday. My stylist listened to what I wanted and helped me figure out good cut for my first-time-wearing-it-straight-instead-of-natural-in-five-years hair. Wonderful experience. I have natural hair so it has been very difficult to truly find a good salon. When I say good, I not only mean service but products and the time a stylist takes to do your hair without juggling many other people at the same time. I got a blow out and press and was very pleased. Would recommend over dominican salons which tend to be cheaper but in the long run don't have a focus on HEALTHY hair care. Try it out! read more

Hello yelp world! I've been meaning to write this review for an extremely long time so i'll try to get to the point. I visited this hair salon a couple of months ago because i didn't feel like traveling to my usual salon that day in Bushwick and I thought Divine seemed popular and crowded when i passed by (in addition, I actually read Yelp reviews to guide my decision to go). So the ambiance of the place is amazing which constitutes for 20% of any experience. My stylist was tall with a sexy short hair cut (can't remember her name) and she was extremely pleasant, understanding and welcoming...which makes up another 20% of a salon experience. So I have extremely thick and long hair down to my behind (100% AA) and I specifically asked for someone who could handle my hair length and texture because it is a challenge and only special hands can make sense of my hair's bi-polar disorder. anyhow this woman said she could so I put faith in her considering she said she has a lot of customers with long hair. To fast forward it was a disaster!!!! She couldn't roller set, the conditioner she used was weak and so was the treatment she decided to put in. She even decided to put a "holding cream" in my hair during the roller set that made my hair feel hard and tangled when it dried. Then she had the nerve to charge me an additional $5 for the crappy product. Ive never used "holding lotion" in my hair but she convinced me that I needed it. my hair was super super super thick, tangled, disgusting feeling and frizzy when she removed the rollers. I wanted to cry!! Because I was sooooooo upset and disappointed. this NEVER happens at my regular salon. She thought that the best solution would be to blow dry/fry my hair but I rarely have to blow dry my hair after roller setting. She then wanted to use this flat brush that would have only pulled my hair out so I immediately told her that she can't use that in my hair. I was so frustrated and stopped her from damaging my hair, pulled it back in a bun myself, wasted $40 for the crappy do, gave her a nice $ tip for being patient and trying then walked out. So I plan on never returning. I must say that this "Nicole" woman that I read about on yelp was super unfriendly, uninviting and cold and as upset as I was, I never caught an attitude only because my stylist was so pleasant. Nicole didn't care to offer any solutions, didn't have the decency to apologize and still charged full price after seeing the end result of my hair. On top of that, while there i noticed that most customers only came in with and for hair weaves so maybe that's their specialty. My last words: if you cant handle naturally long hair, pls don't say you can. And if you think a blow dryer and other hot hair tools can solve a poblem then you r mistaken...its called damaging effect. I give her credit for trying but that wasn't enough. Last but not least I appreciate my salon in Bushwick even tho the distance is far away...and I'm only charged $15-$40 depending on the service. read more

Even more so, Leslie Ann made me feel very comfortable. I checked out their website and discovered the origin of the name...a blessing. I've been coming to Divine Connection for about 4 years now and I've done so many different things with my hair from a short permed cut, to the big chop, coloring, and to sew in weaves. I always leave happy with my hair and look even more beautiful than when I came in. The staff is very professional and knowledgeable. They use top of the line products from brands such as Chi, Jane Carter, Mizani, etc. I love the fact that the stylists are always educating themselves and attending courses to understand the new trends as well as everything they need to know about hair care. I saw mixed reviews for this place and normally I don't write reviews but I thought I'd write one for this place. It's ok. My hair looked fine when I left, nothing spectacular. I got it washed and pressed and it was good and straight. I asked for loose curls but by the time I got to my car, they were gone. I thought it was a little pricey for what I got. I do have long, thick, curly hair but I thought $80 was a little excessive considering that I didn't get a deep conditioner or anything. I've been to cheaper places that did my hair just as well, if not better. I did get a trim, though and it was well done. I went in the middle of the week and it was nice and quiet. I had an 11:30 appointment and my stylist arrived a little after. I didn't wait long after 11:30, 5 minutes tops. She did a good job overall although she was sooo quiet it was a little awkward. I thought the Christian vibe was kind of weird, but hey, my hair looked decent. One thing I wish my stylist had done was do an actual consultation to figure out what type of treatment I needed. She never suggested anything and when she was almost done she said "Next time you come back you should get this treatment that will help moisturize your hair" and then handed me a pamphlet thingy with all their services and prices. Hmmm, shouldn't you have done that first? I mentioned that my hair has a tendency to be a little dry. If I were her, I would have jumped on that opportunity to offer some kind of deep conditioner. It's ok because I didn't really have time for it today anyway but still she should have said something. I might return if I'm in a pinch to get my hair done but overall, I wasn't impressed. I've visited this place 3 years ago for the very first time when I decided to take a leap of faith and add a little color to my natural hair. The setting the stylist very professional nothing like the usual loud and unprofessional hair stylist without licenses. The owner watch and assist the girl who was doing my hair making sure I was getting the right treatment and quality services, which made me feel at ease and very happy to see services like this being done right here in Brooklyn. Went back to Divine Connections for a touch up by Tiffany and that did not go well. My edges which had finally started to grow back were destroyed again due to the perm being on my temples to long. I was disappointed this time because for the money I spent for the touch up and conditioner , this time around my hair was not as great as it was when i first got it done. The work of the women in the shop is not bad, it's not the best but it certainly is not bad. The ambiance of the place well, this is where i share a concern. I'm not sure if the owner (i assume she is, as she never introduces herself as such) is trying to please herself or if she's really trying to accommodate the diversity of her clients. While I am in no way condemning the "Christian" music that is played the ENTIRE time, I also feel that not everyone wants to hear it for the entirety of time spent at the salon. Perhaps a soothing classical or other worldly music that does not necessarily have to be loud and rambunctious. I also note that the passive aggressive behavior of the owner does not become the musical selection. I have been there three times and I have found her to be kinda sorta "rude"?!?! I'm sorry is the music that she is hearing not doing anything for "her" soul? While we all have our moments and our days, it seems there is always a "day" or a "moment" for this "boss".
