I go to GSTARR The Salon all the time. I am only styled by Shay Nicole. Actually my Yelp pic is a style by Shay Nicole. Shay is by far the best stylist that I have ever had. She has been doing my hair for a number years and when I am forced to go to someone else I am always disappointed. She has done weaves, braids, blow outs and more to my hair. Each style being unique and fabulous. Shay specializes in everything if you ask me. She promotes natural hair care not just a cute style. She educates you on how to take care of your hair, what products to use and not use. Shay helps you figure out what works for you. She always says it's not about they style it's about your hair. As far as the actual salon, GSTARR the salon is a cute spot I like the lighting and the decor. The bathroom is decorated well and the salon is always clean. Dawn - extremely rude , stink attitude , does not care about you if you are not an official client of hers , only in it for your money after that doesn't give a damn how you get your unit customized, just know she is not customizing it for you. I come her for Yeye and she is the god's honest TRUTH. My hair has been THRIVING since I started getting it done by her about a year ago. She starts her appointments ON TIME (the latest she's been is maybe 15 minutes, and that was only once), works QUICKLY (I am out the door in 2 hours, 2.5 tops) and does awesome conditioning treatments that moisturize and fortify my hair. Plus she is incredible at styling. I travel from Fort Greene to get here, and made the grave mistake of trying a closer salon to decrease my transit time. I learned quickly (and the hard way!) that commuting to stick with Yeye is the right thing to do!!! I should also mention that I have natural hair and it can be really hard to find good natural stylists. But Yeye always does an incredible job. Plus she is a sweetheart and very fun to talk to while my hair is getting done. Although I've only been styled by Yeye, all the stylists at the salon are really sweet and talented, and the vibe is great. I was referred to Kendra Williamson (@konceitedkreations) to do A Knotless Vixen Style. On the day of the appt I arrived to the above location to find it closed down. Kendra then explains they are renovating and directs me to another location where she is currently working out of. It is not in the best area of Brooklyn. Friday 2/28 3pm appt. Sat in the chair at 3:20pm. Kendra directs a young lady to start to braid my hair, while she ate. 4:10 she starts the crochet process and finishes at 7pm. During that time you'll enjoy the loud blaring music, with people yelling at each other. I witness an argument about a nasty bathroom and 2 women that work there yell at each other. I did tell Kendra that if I knew she was working in this neighborhood, I would not have made the appointment. I explained to Kendra that I've never had this type of style before, so I asked about trimming the hair and if she adds any product to the hair to maintain the curls. Once she was finished crocheting she immediately started to put the flexirods in my hair. She did not trim the hair. Basically brushed the hair and put it on the flexirods, no product at all. 8:37 pm Under drier - the shop's drier wasn't big enough to accommodate this style. I had to dry my hair in portions. By this time I've become impatient because I did not anticipate this appt being more then 5 hours. 9:30pm - She takes out the rods. I looked at the style in the mirror and the curls on the end of the hair were nice and curly. However an hour later when I got home and look at my hair in better lighting, the curls were only at the tips of the hair. The back of my hair was extremely long and did not match the top portion which she made shorter. She did not cut, trim or style the hair. I immediately contacted Kendra, to express my disliking of the end result. She then explains to me that she would not be able to do anything about it for 4 days, because she would be out of town. I immediately start to panic because I refused to leave my house. I was willing to go back to the salon at 1am, because she just started another crochet appt after I left. Kendra was adamant that she could not do anything to help the situation because she wouldn't be in Brooklyn. At the end I had to pay someone else to cut and style the hair to fit me. Conclusion - Kendra is not worth the extreme amount of money she is charging people. She did not do the braiding of my hair, she did not trim the hair to fit me and she didn't care about the quality of work that she did. My lesson - Anyone can "Do" hair, that doesn't mean they know how to "Style" hair. read more

On 9/11, I received three phone calls from an unknown number (harassment much?). I thought it was a scam . The second time I picked up and hung up . The third time I responded to the call, it was Ms.Genevieve , the salon owner . She greets me in an exasperated tone and proceeds to state that she is hearing from "multiple people about a young lady talking about her business being unprofessional ". I replied to say that I spoke to Ms.Elsa through text ( the employee who did my cut and I reviewed the good work done by her on the 17th, review was removed by me as I had a different interaction with the owner which negated her work) despite her using a $5 (Africa's best hair mayonnaise , which is the cost in most bs stores and online which I noticed after getting hair washed . I sent a text message (screenshot attached ) in response to her messages asking if I will be working with her within the past roughly two weeks . The reply was late but I excused the tardiness in my message due to the field I work in . Today was when I received the unknown calls (three) from Ms.Genevieve, the owner of the salon where she said she heard I said she is running f her business unprofessionally. I said in kind that the only person I spoke to was Ms.Elsa due to the owner's inconsistency . Ms.Genevieve said that she told me the purpose of her family matter (she simply stayed that is was a serious emergency, screenshot also attached ) . You will also see that I did not respond to her until OVER a week to follow up on any recourse that would /should be taken . For confidentiality reasons I will not disclose the issue the owner told me she is undergoing on 9/11/19; she never informed me of such when after our phone conversation when I made Ms.Genevieve aware of the matter . As she started to become louder in tone I said that this is not an argument , I do NOT pick up unknown calls (in this case I foolishly did as there were multiple calls made by her ) and if you cannot speak in a respectful tone as I was speaking to her in I will hang the call up again . I told the owner that the only person who knew of my sentiments regarding the incomplete services (see pics attached) by Ms.Octai was Ms.Elsa. Clearly as Ms.Genevieve stated that she was hearing from "multiple people " it is evident that Ms.Elsa was gossiping (and I did state this to Ms.Genevieve) and that any gossiping in a business setting is unprofessional and this only proves my point in the text message that was sent to Ms.Elsa after the multiple calls from Ms.Genevieve. During our phone conversation (Ms.Genevieve & I) on 8/20/19 where I have made the ordeal (appointment ) I have had with Ms.Octai , the owner requested that I text her some key points as she had a scheduled appointment with Ms.Octai. The key issues and events that I experienced on that day I was to text to her so that she can discuss with Ms. Octai. Please see below. Please excuse any typos as I copied and pasted this . PICTURES OF ALL CLAIMS ARE ATTACHED TO PROVE MY CASE. * I opted to speak w Ms.Octai where she initially said "no we can speak here" (the back of the salon wheee I was where the bathroom is in your salon). I did this for the purpose of being discrete and tactful . She said midpoint if the conversation that I tried to manipulate the situation (how when she received the cash in her hand prior to me speaking to her). *Throughout the service , she was CONSTANTLY dropping the comb and brush . Also, the customization of the wig I got installed the day of the appointment was being done by two other coworkers (one bleached and the other washed ). *Ms.Octai plucked the day of . Granted that everyone's head is different but bleaching , washing and plucking the day of?! *Ms.Octai's coworker had to give her tips on corrections * The elastic bands on the units are VERY CLOSE TO COMING OFF. I told her thread was hanging off and one of units was damp. Ms.Octai dismisses this by saying (after she feels it when we're speaking outside ) "oh it's a bit cold but not damp "( Saturday was humid with a temp of 83 degrees , really)?! I was just so disgusted that I had to pay $25 on a cab home . I stated what I saw on her Facebook page and my coworker was not matching up , she said "you are receiving a glue-less service it's different" . During the conversation Ms.Octai tells me that this was her second time doing glue-less and I was the reasons he wanted to learn . I stated to her that she was a novice . She said no and I said anyone doing something for a first, third or even a fifth is not a professional so I basically was a trial run for her . This was the point where the peak of her defensiveness occurs so much so she starts to use hand gestures in a rather offensive way where I had to politely end dialogue . I love this place. The owner is gracious and treats all her clients like celebrities. she takes her time with your hair and makes sure you are happy before you leave the shop. Its one thing just to get your hair done but what i love the most is how she educates you on how to maintain and keep your hair healthy from what you eat and drink to the products you use between visits. She uses quality products to do your hair and ensures that you get the full royal treatment while in the chair. no jumping fro chair to chair no client skipping no multiple hands in you hair. And she could tell I was undecided we talked Abt both styles I wanted to do and she let me know different options etc! The salon it's self is great and I'm definitely coming back!!! Dawn and yeye were also very cool as wel the 3 of them work great together. I left the salon feeing very confident in my self and also in my hair and will continue coming! Tamika or TC has done my hair a few times, however keeping an appointment with her has been a struggle! She has canceled on me THREE different times the DAY OF my appointment. No apologies, nothing. Very upset about my last visit. I always went to Dawn for sew-ins and she refused to do it this time, forcing me to get a wig. To book an appointment, you have to put a down payment, so I did. Then I showed up and she refused to give me what I wanted or refund me the $107 down payment. So I get the $275 wig that she's convinced will "save" my hair. I respect her so much as a woman and a professional but she doesn't know my hair as well as I do, despite what she may believe. My hair is naturally thin and she always complains about having to do it. My hair grew down past my bra length, but cause it's thin she thinks it's "bad hair." The band of this wig has pulled my edges all around, from the front to the nape of my neck. How on earth can this protect my edges if my scalp is so sore from the band? She sewed it in only in the front, adding pressure to my already thin edges, instead of sewing it all around to even the pressure. Now the front is pulling. Not to mention, she overplucked the baby hairs from the lace closure so it doesn't look natural at all. To prevent it from falling out and truly save my hair, I'm taking it out and getting it re-done elsewhere. What a waste of $275. read more

Finding a good stylist is difficult. iv'e been using the same stylist for about 10yrs, and though she's an amazing women, great when it comes to styling, she falls short when it comes to installing which would have to be the most important part for me. Me and my daughter was on the hunt for a new stylist for months before my daughter found Dawnixx on style seat, i have to tell you, not only is she pleasant and kind she is great at what she do! She made me feel as if iv'e known her for years but the most important part, not only is she fast but it felt as if i had no braids underneath...very flat and natural looking, I'll show her a photo of the style i want and she copies it exactly, my last install it was difficult to get an appointment b/c she was booked so i had to keep it in longer then i wanted, with that being said the install held tight, no loose braids, no falling tracks and best of all my hair was healthy when removing it, and that's a lot since my last stylist damaged my hair by putting rubberbands on the ends of my real hair. Prior to Dawn i had to chop off all my hair due to the damage my other stylist caused but it is much healthier now, Dawn also educates you on what products to use for your hair and what you need to do to get it healthy again. Right now i'm wigging it but due spring i will be right back in her chair. I so recommend Dawnixx and will remain a loyal costumer. Thx Dawn!! read more

I went to this Salon on December 31 to get a silk press and a trim. Once done I loved my hair the results were amazing. After two weeks I decided to wash my hair only to see that my curl pattern had changed. I thought maybe I should wait another week and wash my hair again to see if my hair reverts back to its natural curl pattern. Sad to say that it did not and I ended up with severe heat damage. I will not be going to that salon ever again. And that was my second time getting a silk press since I've been natural. read more
