We had been wanting to stop here for awhile - we really wanted to like this place, but now really regret coming here. There were 4 tables that had people, 2 were finishing and leaving. We sat down and it took 10 min to get water. The girl waiting the tables was sweet, but things move faster in the south than they did here. We had to call her over to place the order. Finally got my order, sat and waited until the waitress walked past hubby's burger 3 times before realizing it was ready for pickup. Meanwhile we have no Silverware/napkins. Jeff had the special of the day Swiss burger. Should have asked the price for the special - when we got the bill it was itemized from Burger down to the tomato. It was in NO way a burger baked at the $16+ price! The hot turkey sandwich tasted like the turkey was microwaved - chewy- the gravy was extremely heavy with the taste of poultry seasoning and pepper. It really wasn't good. We sat for quite awhile before finally asking the waitress to bring our check. I will Leave this with two positives - the fries were good and the waitress was friendly, when she was around. It was not worth $33 for this lunch. read more

We weren't going to come because it's attached to a church but we tried it anyway. A little bit of religious stuff around but not pushy. The server was excellent and there was a young lady in the kitchen cooking. We ordered omelets with home fries, I read the reviews and they were recommended. I would NEVER order them again, the cook was a heavy handed with the cayenne pepper. They were so spicy I could not taste my other food. I really tried to eat them but could not. The food took a long long time to come out. The omelet was amazing but they forgot our toast. The condiment basket on our table was empty anyway, no jelly, no salt. read more

Great atmosphere and service, family friendly, not a conventional restaurant... Gives you the feel of eating at your grandmas or family's house. Laid back with really great, home cooked, locally sourced, real food! The iced tea, sweet and unsweet are both amazing and fresh brewed. And make sure you save room for their desserts! Affordable farm-to-table experience, rural heartland diner with world class cooking. Everything we ate at the diner tasted like Grandma used to make, that is, if Grandma were Julia Child. We had an exceptional omelette made with local eggs, with fresh veggies sauteed perfectly, delectable expertly seasoned home fries, the best biscuits and gravy this side of heaven, followed by perfect lemon meringue pie which words simply cannot describe. All brought to us by a gentleman who missed his calling in standup comedy. To say that we're hoping to go back soon is the understatement of the century. We adore this place It's difficult for me to fathom how the food can possibly be this delicious, but I guess divine intervention is still a thing, these "meals that heal" are nothing short of sacred. Advertises farm to table dining, and that shines through in the quality of the eggs and meats we had for breakfast today. Everything was cooked well, but because of a number of elements of our first experience here, I'm only able to give them three stars. I'd give three and a half if possible, but I can't give four because: * Seating is awkward, with circular booths with small bistro tables in the center that could not accommodate the food the three of us ordered. * My wife found a hair in her omelet, which was otherwise excellent. * My daughter's coffee cup was not completely clean. * I ordered a diet cola and when I tasted it I realized it was not diet. They brought me a replacement, but were not terribly apologetic when I told them I am diabetic. Hopefully they'll be a little more careful in the future. * It's located in a church and religious iconography is in abundant supply. Not a deal killer as the staff are friendly and polite and did not evangelize, but some people might want to know this in advance. The restrooms are actually located in an area that requires walking through the church to use. Also all the other customers seemed to know all the staff and it felt a little more like a private club than a public restaurant to us. As I said, I really feel it's three and a half stars for the excellent quality of the locally sourced foods, very well prepared. If they address the concerns above, I could see Dix Ave Diner earning four to five stars in the long run. I'm glad they're there, they just need to make some tweaks to make a better experience for their customers. read more

My wife and I went with our daughter (3 years old). Was seated by an older gentleman, who immediately walked away as soon as we sat. He was gone for at least 5 minutes before returning for our drink order, then disappeared again. When taking our order he seemed unfamiliar with what came with our choices, and yelled back across the restaurant multiple times to ask us follow up questions. When our food came out, our daughters food was missing. Come to find out the older gentleman never wrote down her order...cue screaming three year old asking incessantly where her food is. So as far as the food goes, it was mediocre at best. Fries were barely cooked, mushy, and immensely oily. My wife's wrap was made without mayonnaise and was very dry. Overall it's one of the worst restaurant experiences we've ever had. read more

Not sure what place the initial reviewer went to but he is either confused or it's a fake review. This diner is located inside a church (the diner has its own separate entrance) and it prides itself on being a farm to table establishment....definitely nothing fake about the eggs or the bacon. The diner was recently on channel 10 news (ABC) for its philosophy and approach of serving healthy, locally sourced meals. While I was there I had the beef bone broth and quite frankly, it was the best soup I have had in a long time. I even ordered a frozen zip lock bag of it to have throughout the week yet it wasn't as good at home. Good quality food, much higher than you'll find in area establishments and the price is right. This location is tucked away a little but well worth seeking out! Ventured there for a late breakfast and wasn't disappointed by the blueberry pancakes and home fries. Really delicious. I usually don't post reviews but I feel like this place was an exception. This is this first time ever that I've walked out of a restaurant prior to being served. We waited over an hour and a half for breakfast which never came. Every table that was sitting in the diner had to send their food back for incorrect orders (literally every table) I've never seen anything like it before. It was like they had no clue where the food was supposed to go after it was cooked. I believe I watched our meal go to a different table that came in after us then they sent it back as it was not the correct meal. There was no organization, no method to taking orders or when then food was ready. I also watched another couple get up and leave as well prior to receiving their food. These place need some help in the restaurant business. I could hear the waitress arguing with the cook about the food although I think a majority of the problems were caused by the waitress not getting orders correct and not bringing the food to the right places. I would not recommend eating here at it's current state. read more

Found this place on Yelp last week when looking for a lunch place. Great find. Good locally-sourced food prepared extremely well. Reuben was tasty and grilled chicken sandwich prepared how I asked. Don't let the church Vibe disway you, everyone was extremely nice especially our waitress. Only wish they had more vegetarian options. But their salad was very fresh and full of flavor. read more
