Oof. Not good. This is a classic diner with a massive menu. The two issues are the food and the prices. We had: - French onion soup: The cheese and the bread were fine. Something tasted off about the soup. - Spaghetti and meatballs: The sauce was flavorless and the meatballs were very strangely seasoned. - A French dip sandwich: I should have known that this would be awful when the menu said it had cheddar cheese. I subbed in Swiss and it was still awful. The meat was very dry and flavorless. - Kids' chicken fingers and fries: This was fine. All told, we had two entrees, a kids meal, and a bowl of soup. Along with two sodas, the total came to almost $70 before tip. That's a lot more than I wanted to spend for such lousy food. Prices of some other items (especially drinks) were even more absurd. I'm not going to pay $7 for a Coors light. I'm definitely not going to pay $17 (!!!) for a Long Island iced tea at some random diner. Service was fine. read more

We stopped at Silo (which is good, but very crowded), went over to Ambrosia and did not regret it. Our server was Virginia and she was a sweetheart. Kept us in coffee and was attentive to what we wanted. We got a table quickly and there are a wide variety of breakfast options. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered, meals were served quickly and hot. Atmosphere is like an upscale Dennys crossed with a 50s diner. Plenty of parking. All the workers seemed friendly. We will return when we come back to upstate NY. read more

We ate at the Ambrosia Diner recently, and it was the third time over a period of a few years that we were disappointed. Yes, the building is sparkling and clean and we were seated promptly . . . but, the Nachos were only passably good. Why? Because they put fried onions in the mix. When the menu said onions, I assumed it meant chopped scallion greens, but no, it was fried onions. The rest of it wasn't that good either. We also ordered a Patty Melt -- also a disappointment! It was an incredibly small burger with cheese on it and the fried onions, but this little trio was sandwiched between two slices of toasted, dry bread. A Patty Melt is supposed to be the aforementioned burger, cheese and fried onions in the two slices of rye bread and griddled in a lot of butter, so that when it arrives at the table, it should be almost too buttery to pick up with your fingers. If it was good enough to take home, which it wasn't -- it way way too small for there to be enough to take home. Lastly we ordered strawberry shortcake which was DRY DRY DRY. We share some of it and left the rest, it was so old it tasted like licorice. And silly me, that was what I ordered the last time I was there and swore to never return because it was stale. The lady at the desk said that I should have mentioned what was wrong with the Patty Melt and they would have "made it right." Really? The onus is upon me to have them make it right? No, thanks, I'm just not going back and suggest that anyone reading this make sure you know what you're getting before you order it! read more

This diner is the best in the 518. No matter what you order, it comes out delicious with a side of waitress awesomeness. This particular morning I ordered the eggs Benedict. As you can tell from the picture it was perfect. When you cut into the eggs the flow of yolk the cascaded down over the ham and English muffin was a beautiful sight to see. The service is always impeccable. My waitress Virginia, has been a staple there for years and is always friendly, efficient, and ready with the coffee pot to do your refills. My cup is never empty. Stopped in for first time yesterday on way back from a weekend in Vermont. Big place. Full diner look in\out. Big parking lot but can fill up ( at least during weekend breakfast hours). Plenty of staff, especially the stereotypical"diner waitress". They are serious, yet friendly at the same time because they work hard: Especially during these breakfast rushes. I ad a 3 egg omelette with Swiss, mushrooms, and onions that comes with a non-oily side of home fries ( potatos). Both were very good. The coffee we had was excellent. Another visit to Ambrosia Diner, this time for dinner. The chowder soup was delicious! The atmosphere and service were amazing like always! I can never get over how massive their portions are. The Mac and cheese almost tasted like I was having a huge pot of fondue but with macaroni noodles to dip instead. I don't know how I even had room to have a bite of the cake but it made me wish I had a second stomach. It was so good! Stopped in for dinner. There were 3 of us and we ordered a Belgian waffle, gyro and French toast. The good: Waitress was great, food was mostly good and the place is very clean. Hubs and I were out shopping with my parents when we got hungry and they suggested Ambrosia Diner. They had a previous wonderful experience and wanted to share that with us. It's a cute very diner looking diner and very large! There is a pie/dessert case as you walk in and it looks incredible. Lots of seating. We were greeted and seated quickly in a large corner booth and handed menus. Our drink order was taken and promptly delivered. We ordered potato skins to start, then 3 pot roast dinner specials and 1 meatloaf. The skins came out looking crazy... the whole potato was there with a glob of cheese and bacon piled in the middle. I pulled one out of the pile and a large piece of saran wrap was mixed in with the cheese and I almost ate it! I showed the server who took it back and we asked to just have those removed from our bill. The pot roast was tender but lacked in flavor, served with mashed potatoes that were good and brown gravy that was just ok. There was vegetable on the side but it was so offensively overcooked that it was nearly unrecognizable. The meatloaf looked appetizing and my dad seemed to like it so that was good. Came here in an early with super cold weather outside. We got there around 8AM on a Saturday morning. Not too packed but there were a lot of people there already considering the time of the day. We ordered steak and eggs, the more expensive one. I asked to get gravy with biscuit to substitute the toast. Paid extra for that. Steak is super chewy. Not much flavor. Surprisingly the the gravy with the biscuit are most tasty out of all. Should just order the country styled steak and egg. Staff is friendly. Food is just so-so. read more

Stopped in for late lunch early dinner. French dip was amazing and the French fries were perfectly made. My lamb Gyro was also amazing. Just enough of everything with a Greek salad on the side. Perfect. We were seated right away the waitress was wonderful. We were too full to finish so took some home for tomorrow and also chose some enticing desserts to bring home for later. FANTASTIC in the area for work and I call in a to go I walk in they're immediately attentive after asking my first name in the phone they only used my name to address me as soon as I walked in. I saw a review and picture of the Adirondack grilled cheese (Gouda, apples, raspberry jam) so decided to order that. It was pretty bad. There was almost no cheese, tons of apples, and it was drowning in the raspberry "jam", which was thin and syrupy. The bread wasn't sourdough as described, and was more like a commercial basic bread. I just waited over 45 minutes to get my food and we didn't even get it. My family order two burgers and french fries and a bowl of French onion soup and we were there for 45 minutes and people came in after work after us and got solved before our meal was probably even started. They kept saying that the kitchen was under staff and it was slow today and it's the end of the night I'm at it's 9 o'clock.
