These are not kind of words one expects to hear put together in the same sentence for an appetizing experience. Walking in there takes you back in time about 4 decades when lunch spots and barber shops were literally in the basement or front part of the proprietor's house. You feel the informality, the local camaraderie, and the care that exists automatically when you're invited into someone's home. There's one guy on the grill and he's making the food for everyone. It might be hard to get a server's attention, but when they're with you they are attentive to what you want. I ordered a cup of chili con carne (I usually like this spicy - this was not, but the flavor and hearty-ness was right on) and what's probably not the most popular thing on the menu, a Cobb salad. The cook fired a whole chicken breast and three thick slices of bacon, put some monster hard boiled eggs in there as well with all the greens, put it on a plate and served it right to me. "How does it look?" He asked, as if it was his first Cobb in a while. It wasn't pretty like other Cobb salads you get in restaurants, but that whole chicken breast, the thick bacon, the huge eggs and the fresh greens make it one of the most satisfying salads I've had in a long time. One thing I'd mention only because it popped up in a few other reviews is this: if you go there, expect to hear people chat about a lot of stuff, including politics. The folks who work here and hang out at the counter will say what's on their mind and will share it with you as you eat some great home cooked food. If you keep your mind as open as your belly, you won't be disappointed in the food certainly, and you may just find a new point of view and some new lunch buddies. But as we sat there looking around and waiting, the decor came into sharper focus. Photos of 70s bands in concert, that's okay. But framed photos of E. Stef (area's rep in congress US) in front of a US flag and a little red-hat shrine up front with an image of the smirking Trump...? Lost our appetites. We were in the area for the weekend, and the owner of our motel (a local lady) recommended Poopie's for breakfast and gave us directions. She especially told us not to miss the homemade corned beef hash, which is my husband's favorite. We were really starving, so we were excited to give it a shot. Unfortunately, coming face to face with the over-the-top right-wing political shrine made us lose our appetites immediately, and out we went. Incidentally, we were in the place less than 5 minutes, and in that time, I heard the guy at the grill yell out two loud "f-bombs." Charming.... When I'm in Glens Falls around lunchtime, I try and stop in Poopie's for great burgers, hot dogs, and home fries. Of all the hotdogs/hamburger places in the Capital District, this one is near or at the top of the list. A worthy local alternative to New Way. It is off the beaten path, on the industrial east side of town. There is on street parking and also a small private parking lot. Inside there is a lunch counter and maybe a dozen tables. Between noon and 1 PM it's pretty crowded, so it's best to avoid those hours. Classic rock music plays at a comfortable volume. The crowd is comfortable, casual, non-politically correct. Photos of musical acts and Republican politicians are displayed behind the counter. Service is great. One thing that is a little unusual is that they don't give you the check. You go up to the cash register to pay and they figure out which check is yours. So my experience has been to just get up and go to the cash register when it's time to pay. Don't wait for the check. I have only been here for lunch, never for breakfast, so I can only comment on the lunch menu. The food is excellent. The burgers are huge and they are cooked to order, including rare. In summary, Poopie's is a great place, avoid the rush, don't wait for them to bring you your check. read more

We would never have known to pop in here had it not been for my cousins whose mother grew up in Glens Falls. I am so glad we did. First of all there is nothing like excellent music while eating breakfast. The walls are filled with amazing photographs of interest in clientele who have passed through. The servers were super friendly- our food was timed perfectly and DELICIOUS. A server who wasn't even ours stopped by the table to ask if we needed anything and asked if we ordered the famous bread- we hadn't but she brought us both a slice while we waited. Awesome all around. On the way out we bought four loaves of that delicious bread, ate one that night and freezer wrapped the rest. My friend had the French toast, and he said it was as close to his Mom's as any place he'd been EVER. I had two eggs with corned beef hash and toast. There is no need for home fries as they give you a very generous serving of CBH. I am a big fan of CBH, and Poopie's ranks right up there with the best I've had anywhere! Coffee was bottomless and, as mentioned, our server kept it coming. Last, they don't gouge you for an arm and a leg. Prices are very reasonable. This a place that I have had on my list for a long time. There is off street parking but it's not too far off the main streets in Glens Falls. I was there around 12:30. The place was full but I was able to find a small table. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. She suggested the minestrone and it was delicious with chunks of spicy sausage. I also orders the burger and fries. The fries are home made and delicious. This was a lot of food. They serve two pickles with the burger and I could only eat one. That was a first. A little off the beaten path, this place is a MUST-visit for locals and tourists. I finally made it there yesterday after hearing about it for over 2 years. The wood-paneled-locally-decorated walls (with lots of pictures, hockey sticks and other cool stuff) and the long counter with bar stools brought me back a few decades. The reason for that: it was established in the 1950's and the same family is still running it. Love the atmosphere....love the family vibe....love the constant stream of locals that are on a first name basis with the owners and other customers. Behind the counter is the grill where all of the magic happens. No kitchen mysteries here....you can even see into the back part of the kitchen (where the soups, fries and onion rings emerge from). The food: authentic, homemade, fresh ingredients...nothing frozen. I started with a cup of creamy tomato soup; my companion had the new england clam chowder. The creamy tomato soup delivered - it was VERY creamy and rich - I could only finish half of the cup (which is actually served in a coffee mug...nice touch). The clam chowder (also homemade) was fabulous. I ordered the single burger with a side of fries. Fries....fresh cut and cooked to perfection...just the way I like them (with lots of crispy ones and some that were crispy outside and tender inside). So glad I just got the single burger (the options are single, one and a half or double)...with cheese and tomato. The burger is not too thick and the bun was fresh, soft (and yes...buttered!). They also cut it in half...which I really liked. I ALMOST finished everything but couldn't do it....but I wanted to keep going. (I rarely eat burgers but this one was gooood). Even the iced tea was great (fresh brewed....and refilled 3 times). My friend had the goulash served with a side of dense italian (buttered!) bread from a bakery down the street. I didn't try it but she really enjoyed it. We didn't have room for dessert but I've heard that you can't go wrong. Total package - great comfort food, family atmosphere, friendly. It's cash or check only, but the prices are so incredibly reasonable. They aren't there on Sundays (they need a day off once in a while) and they close at 2pm every other day during the week.
