Fried chicken livers, twice baked potato, chicken fried chicken, salad & vegetable soup
    Ione D.

This is an old style diner serving homemade southern style comfort food. The diner is larger than you would expect but felt comfortable and inviting. It has nostalgic decor with a combination of booths and tables. At the height of lunch hour it was very busy but we were promptly seated and served. We happen to be driving through Texarkana at lunchtime and remembered that we had friends from our town, which is an hour away, that rave about it and occasionally for an outing will drive to Texarkana just to eat lunch. I had fried chicken livers, cabbage and the twice baked potato while my husband had the chicken fried chicken. My potato was just average but the fried livers and cabbage were excellent. We both enjoyed our food very much and I appreciated the fact that the tea glasses were large enough that I didn't have to ask for refills. One review complained that there weren't very many chicken livers. I only had about seven livers myself, but they were so huge that I ended up making two meals out of it. We thought the food was very reasonably priced and some of the meals even come with half portions. My husband actually got the half order of the chicken fried chicken and it was still plenty of food.

    Peach Cobbler!

We arrived at lunch & had to wait a bit - and it was worth the wait! First, they brought rolls with honey - so good!! My CFS was tender and delicious, and my wife's Chicken Tenders were HUGE. Smoky Black-Eyed Peas. Best of all, the Peach Cobbler a la Mode was fantastic!

(L-R) turnip greens, beef tips and rice, fried okra. (Off screen) BIG grin.

Exterior and interior are clean and in good repair. I held the door for a LOL and she thanked me warmly. Maitre d' greeted me warmly and apologized for the short delay while she seated the preceding diners. The waitress was amazing! Like always. She was attentive, but not intrusive. She took my order and repeated my two special requests to ensure they were correct. I barely had enough time to savor the cornbread when she returned with my meal. The presentation is very good. The aromas are superb! The flavors were phenom! The waitress brought a to-go box before I asked. A gentleman was about to enter. I waited so I wouldn't hit him with the door. He was exceptionally gracious, said thank you, held the door for me, and wished me a great TEXAS day! DC is a great place to dine!

Good home cooking in a diner setting. Food isn't as good as home but very close. Staff is friendly. Banana pudding is good for a restaurant.

About what one would expect next to a highway late at night in the middle of no where. The ice tea was very very good!

Country food at reasonable prices. Yeast rolls are great. Best of all it is locally owned and operated.

We discovered them about 8 months ago while traveling through, needing some less processed options than typical eatout food, and tried it. Sooo glad we did! So now that we're in the area again we knew this is where we wanted to go. We even ordered extra meals to take with us for tomorrow! Ignore the lower star reviews bc they have nothing to do with quality (and no, the food is not bland)! If you want fancy highly processed and over seasoned gut burning food, don't go here - go to an impersonal restaurant serving commercial processed foods. Mother Kelley's is true homestyle flavors, meaning it's not fancy but it's home cooked comfort food (real ingredients) like my grandmother's was (mid 20th century); you'll love it!

Decided on the wedge salad and the Baja Tacos. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen but my tacos are delivered to my table BEFORE the salad, when I asked about the salad the lady said it should be out "soon" {sigh}. A few minutes later the salad arrives while I was looking disappointedly at the tacos. I even asked Abby if this was the normal amount of meat provided on the tacos and she said yes...oh well. Salad was OK, a bit drowned in Blue Cheese dressing but it was an OK salad. The tacos...totally missed the mark. They were supposed to be "3 flour tortillas filled with grilled & blackened red fish, topped with slaw and cilantro cream". There was basically one "fish nugget"...inadequate, the "blackened" was more like tanned so no blackened flavors, while the cilantro cream didn't do anything to improve the dish. I guess I could have sent it back but I combined one into the other two to make them a bit more like a meal. Service from Abby was good, but overall not a huge fan of this meal.

Wow, wow, wow! A truly fantastic meal!…read more Our first impressions walking in weren't super great due to an unfriendly hostess, but everything else was amazing. She just stared at us as we walked in, no welcome, and not a single bit of souther hospitality that I expect from a small town establishment. The food was superb, though! My husband and I both ordered the wedge salad and the chicken capres. The chicken was sous-vide with cherry tomatoes, spinach, mozzarella cheese, balsamic glaze, and fresh basil. Plus it was gluten free! Omg, the most tender and juicy chicken I think I've ever had! I chose the grilled okra as my side and I was not disappointed. The Twisted fork is a great, laid-back place for some classic southern-inspired food!
