I got to Dixie Donuts close to their closing time, but they were still welcoming and told me what donuts they had any left of. I tried the blueberry cake and boston cream, and a coffee. I was surprised by the size of the interior. Having driven by many times I wasn't expecting a decently sized cafe-esque layout. Once I got home I tried the donuts. I enjoyed the boston cream more than the blueberry cake, but in some bites there was an astringent after-taste. The blueberry cake donut had good texture, but was heavily basted in sugar, leading it to be too sweet. I'll have to try to get there earlier in the future, try a plain donut. In the meantime, if you want an acceptable local morning pastry shop, you could check this place out.

When I arrived, there was already three other cars in the parking lot and a mix of older and younger people. I'm glad I got in when I did on a Saturday before 8 o'clock. Because it soon as I got in there begin to have a crowd of people that came in. So get there before 8 AM to miss the crowd. I chose quite a few of their different donuts. It looked interesting. Heading home to try them out. They also have delicious coffee. I got home and the coconut cream donuts were the best out of everything that I got. Definitely recommend those for anybody that likes coconut.

Cute little local donut shop. Was small inside with few tables, we went at 9 am on a Saturday, waited a few minutes inline. Looks like a bunch of locals have been sitting at most of the tables for a while so there wasn't anywhere to sit so we took it to go. We each ordered a donut with a breakfast sandwich. The bagels were fresh and the donuts not too sweet. I was watching them make the breakfast sandwich and they just microwaved the sausage patty with a slice of cheese on top before putting it on the bagel to create the sandwich. The overall breakfast sandwich lacked taste and overall wasn't impressive. I'd definitely stick to the donuts if I were to return. I'd like to try the lemon donut.

Awesome bagels, donuts, egg sandwiches, haven't tried anything else on their menu. You have to get there early or call early to get an order put aside, cause they sell out fast! Look at the cases below the menus at 9:28 AM, a lot of them are already empty because they sold out! There was a line when I arrived, but it went fast I didn't wait long. Heard many good things about this spot but never made it there till recently. We went at 9am on a Friday and got an assortment of donuts. Tried the old fashioned and cinnamon first. These cake donuts were dry/stale like they had been sitting out for a long time. The third donut tried was the jelly donut which was super sweet. Restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. We will have to try again to see if we had just gone on an off day.

A local favorite! We were in town, passing through, and I was researching breakfast options when I came across Dixie Donuts. We showed up around 8:30am on a Saturday and it was hopping! Tons of locals lined up to get their breakfasts. Line was quick. They were selling out of different varieties. It was tasty and affordable. Definitely recommend!

This little doughnut shop appears to be well loved by their regulars. I witnessed lovely exchanges between some of them. We received lukewarm service the morning we stopped by. The pros were the doughnuts appear to be made fresh and were good. The cons were that our rolls on our breakfast sandwiches were burnt. Even one of the other well known customers commented to the staff when he walked in, "what are you guys burning?" Little did we know that it was the inside of our rolls. It's a simple mistake that could have been easily remedied.

The best donut shop ever- great service, great quality. They have quite the following so get there early because they do run out. If you want a large quantity be sure to call the day before and order ahead- they'll put it aside for you. Enjoy! read more

This is the best donut I have ever had in US. I'm not a fan of sugar loaded cake style donut. I prefer simple, chewy yeast style donut. Dixie is the place to go. Donut is really delicious and they are not too sweet. Customer service is great. Will definitely come back for more donuts. read more

New England is the birthplace of the donut and it takes a certain artistry to create these evil delights. I have been visiting this part of CT as I grew up here and have been keen on keeping a kind of a list, a "must eat" list whenever I'm here. The Dixie Donut is one of these places. They have like 7 kinds of jelly donuts! There's one called something like "Mary's Special"...imagine a Boston Cream, filled with the chocolate on top but instead of the cream inside, they fill it with blackberry jelly. They close at noon each day and often run out of their best stuff early, so come early. This place is also cash only, but they do have an atm. Also, bring your own coffee...the coffee here is terrible! It's as bad their donuts are good! There are Dunkin Donuts gas stations nearby with better coffee. Although my "best of" list is constantly being updated, Dixie Donuts have held fast this title for multiple years. And my latest favorite discovery...their Girl Scouts cookie inspired "Samoa" with chocolate frosting, coconut and caramel on a soft raised donut. Hold on to your shoes because this one will blow your sox off! read more

My boys and I stopped here for breakfast while camping at Odetah. The egg sandwiches were delicious. The chocolate cake donuts were a huge hit! The service was fast and the staff couldn't be nicer. There are a couple little tables outside so we could bring the dog along. Love this spot! read more

Best donuts EVER. Won't even think of DD after you have tasted these delicately fresh donuts. Personal favorite is the raised with chocolate frosting and walnuts, (big chunky walnuts) the jelly filled glazed or powder sticks, and the raised glazed. The owner is a love, and we love the friendly morning chat , (lot's of dudes in workclothes getting their morning fix) coffee and donuts here. read more

I miss this place! I used to go here all the time when I lived with my family in Franklin CT. I've since introduced it to my mom, and Dixie is a regular stop for her. My mom made a huge order here for the morning of my wedding while the girls got their makeup done. Coffee (iced or hot) donut holes and highly recommend their sausage egg and cheese. Wow, I wasn't expecting the quality, softness, and gooeyness explosion all in my mouth just now. When you go to DD, the donuts maybe last a half day before they get hard and look like a hockey puck? I just ate a day old powdered blueblerry filled from Dixie, planned on eating half and somehow I ate the whole thing. This place is legit, def check it out! read more

The best donut shop ever!!! A true donut shop!!! Amazing donuts, filled, fluffy, soft and tasty!!! A must stop!! Love all of them you can't go wrong!!! The jelly donuts-spot on! One box didn't last long in our house. The smell is amazing!!! Kids just love as a treat!! Not many of these gems left. Growing up in the area all the mama and pop places are gone...but, Dixie is a must for holidays parties, trip to the beach or just passing by. My first taste of these little pieces of heaven was when a Dr. brought them for a holiday party...been addicted ever since...nothing compares! This place sticks to the basics and does them amazingly well. Breakfast is donuts, muffins, bagels and egg sandwiches. The donuts are the best I can ever remember. Yup. These were DELICIOUS. I usually evaluate donut shops based on their plain and their Boston cream to keep things consistent and then try some of their specialties. Boy was I impressed. The best part of donuts is when they're light and airy (or cakey) and they have that slightly crispy bits from being fried. These were both. We also got a Samoa and a blackberry chocolate frosted donut also. The Samoa was very good but that blackberry chocolate donut... Oh holy shit THAT BLACKBERRY CHOCOLATE DONUT... Might have actually been the best donut ever. Super impressed for a little hole in the wall donut joint. Best donuts in Norwich. Always fresh and always delicious. The breakfast wraps are nice, along with the bagels, just wish they'd use fresh eggs instead of the microwave patties. Great atmosphere, always locals chatting over fresh coffee. Personal favorites are the butter crunch or maple frosted donut! Lots of coffee flavors which are always fun to try too! read more

You would not BELIEVE what you taste no matter what you get. The breakfast wraps are wholesome and filling, the donuts soft and fresh and the muffins, the absolute best muffin you've ever tried. Dixie has had many improvements over the years! Donuts get better, with monthly specials, coffee flavors rotate out per season too! They ARE open 7 days a week now too, so everyday is a good to go! Wraps, sandwiches, donuts, danishes, bagels...they got it and it's the best! Amazingly friendly staff, with great memories! While standing at the counter waiting for service, an old racist white man cut in front of me and the staff (older white female) who started to address me immediately turned to him instead as if I wasn't standing there first. The rest of the staff seemed to side with the old racist. read more

Definitely the best donuts around. After eating here the donuts at Dunkin Donuts taste artificial and cheap. The staff are the best too, always service with a smile. read more

Dixie remains the best Donut maker in Eastern CT. I don't consider the cross town corporate rivals even an option. They are now open on Sundays. read more
