Warning!!! PLEASE READ! Their facility needs to be shut down. We were fed MASSIVE AMOUNTS IF PLASTIC. Story: we came to try this place out and it was packed with people. A few families were agitated and we could tell the atmosphere was moody. We placed an order, waited 40 minutes and discovered (by asking) that our order was never placed with the kitchen. We get the order (total wait time was 1hr/55 minutes or so) and head out. My daughter starts to drink her vegetable spinach banana smoothie. She starts complaining that something is scratching and irritating her throat, we respond by saying oh it's fine probably just the spinach. We get home and she's really coughing and gagging. She runs to the toilet and vomits profusely, everywhere. Within seconds we see what happened. She was drinking shredded f'ing plastic. We pulled away the cup and emptied it into our hands over the sink and there it was. Shredded plastic (two kinds!!!!) in the DOZENS. Small and large partials. She ingested half a plastic bag or something. Ran to hospital. This is where we are. This place will hear from us. No questions asked. SHUT THEM DOWN! Health partner SHUT THEM DOWN! read more

Bagels are good and cream cheese is excellent. But if you get there in the latter half of the 6 hours they are open, they are usually out of the favorites. And today I showed up 12 minutes before they closed at 1pm and they locked the door, and said they were closed. read more

My bagel was burned as heck. The manager was very rude. Not worth the price for a cremated sandwich. Very disappointing. Was a first time customer, but the rude environment put a bad taste in my mouth...as did the burnt bagel. No one wants to go to a place that makes them feel like they hate you for being there. read more

The muffins were uncovered on the counter and had flies landing on them. For some reason beyond my comprehension they don't sell tea. Only coffee. I would like to offer some free business advice: buy a $5 box of 50 Lipton tea bags and charge $3-4 for a cup. You already have the hot water (there is a spout on the coffee machine!) You also have the cups, the lids, the milk and sugar. read more

Deke's has been on my radar because friends have posted about their Guilford location on Instagram. I've been planning to visit for a while, but to my surprise, I drove by the Niantic Deke's on the way to our weekend rental. I visited Deke's two times over the weekend for bagels, a breakfast sandwich and/or iced coffee. Everybody liked their orders. My orders included a Spinach, Artichoke and Feta Bagel with Sundried Tomato Cream Cheese and a Chili Releno Breakfast sandwich with to die for ham. The flavors and textures were on point. I could taste the oven in the bagels in a good way. The iced coffee was good as well. The number of bagel and cream cheese options available seem to be a big selling point of Deke's. Deke's is one of the better bagel spots in CT. I recommend you visit them in Guilford, Niantic or wherever else they may be. Five Stars read more

One of the best bagels and cream cheese I have ever tasted. I even debated to go back for a second !! Cozy place, and the staff was kind.

The quality and service at Deke's has definitely gone downhill over the last few years. When I was placing my order, the person taking it was quite rude and acted like he didn't understand what I was trying to order. Two bacon egg and cheese sandwiches came out to about $19, which is a little pricey for what I received. The bagels are super thin and the amount of bacon is lacking. The egg is also pretty small. My wait was not too long but there were people waiting 30 mins in front of me. I remember being obsessed with Deke's but it is definitely not the same bagel place I used to love. read more

Wow that might have been the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. I just had a bacon egg and cheese and a French toast bagel. It might sound strange, but it's a flavor explosion. The way they cook the bagels and the quality of everything was just outstanding. I've been here before and had the sandwich on an everything bagel and that was amazing as well. The sandwiches are great when they get them right. The last few times I have been here my order has either been wrong, coffee was full of grounds and now they just switched my bagel without asking because they ran out of the one I asked for. This place is so unorganized. A ton of people in the back taking care of the bagels but not enough people up front to take care of the customers. Prices through the roof, they are incredibly rude and with increasing substandard performance. I used to come here about twice a week for bagels, sandwiches and other baked goods. Unfortunately I grew tired of the long lines/wait, the increased occasion of them providing wrong orders and now it seems like purchasing food from their business annoys the workers. The cinnamon raisin bagel was full of corn meal on the bottom and extremely hard this am. The coffee was lukewarm and gross. The everything bagel was beyond tough to chew. FANTASTIC BAGEL JOINT? I have been twice now & the bagels are outstanding! I had an Everything Bagel with scallion cream cheese, tomato & smoked salmon. The bagel was perfect: lotsa of toppings on the bagel to give it wonderful flavor. The bagel was light with a slight chewy texture. The smoked salmon was excellent quality k was cured perfectly. The cream cheese was lightly whipped with a nice tang from the fresh scallions. Today, I had a ham, egg & cheese on a sesame bagel. All the ingredients were fresh & cooked perfectly. Staff is wonderful: courteous, friendly, helpful & efficient! Very clean establishment also. I am adding this place to my regular rotation! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

Usually love Deke's. We ordered 2 Taylor pork, egg & American on bagels online this morning. Overall, the sandwiches were pretty darn good, as always. BUT, wasn't able to order the egg any way except over hard online. It was skimpy on the thinly sliced pork roll, and there was a mystery sauce on it that wasn't in the description (it wasn't mayo, might've been cream cheese?) - didn't order it like that, a bit off-putting. Great breakfast sandwiches overall, and the breakfast burritos are awesome. That said, double check your bill. I had an issue the past few times I got the burritos where the price on the wall was $13 (I know, it's a high priced breakfast burrito), but the charged me $14.25 plus tax. When i mentioned it I was told it was "tax and stuff " , but with a line if people behind me I just let it go. I went again this week and the same thing happened. I asked for the owner, and Deke was there, and he had a real attitude. His response to my "why two prices" question was - "so tell me what you want to pay". I said I just wanted to pay the posted price. So he went ahead and changed the price on the board to $15. Deke's may have great bagels, but their ethics (and pricing) are pretty suspect. Last few times I've gone, they have nailed our breakfast bagel sandwiches. Let the pics speak for themselves. My only tip is that if you like your bagel on the more toasted side, make sure to stress that when you order. Their special bacon egg cheese bagel is delicious on its own with out anything. I don't have a rating because I tried to get some bagels cream cheese and a coffee at deke's but I didn't know that they closed at 1 pm on Sunday. We got there at 1250 and a young couple were waiting by the window for there order. When they received there order I went to the window and stood there for about 5 minutes in the meantime I had figured out they were closing soon. After a minute I tapped on the window and a guy said that they were closed. I told them we were there for ten minutes. He just closed the window and was gone. read more

The food here is great, but it's not that difficult to toast a bagel, cook some breakfast meat and eggs, put it together with some cheese and there you go. First time customer; disappointed. I arrived to the Niantic location at 7am on Saturday to find the window closed, they open at 7am. I waited cause I saw two ladies in white coats and two men in the bakery. I was never greeted but instead got stairs from Deke's employees and a laugh from the two ladies in white coats as they came to check the contents in the display window and clearly made eye contact with me. It wasn't until 7:17am that the window opened and Olivia set up the tip jar and iPad. I told her I have been in line for 17 minutes and no one even came to me to say we are running a few minutes late. I guess they are only trained to do their own jobs. Clearly the crew was waiting for Olivia to get to work which she was late and open the window. I ordered a half dozen bagels which on the menu and website cost $9, I was charged $11.72 or $1.95 ea for a total $12.59. Clearly not what was advertised. I would like anyone to consider their first interaction with Deke's business. I am disappointed in my first experience at Deke's. I have emailed my experience to the owners website and no response. I have a picture of my bill of sale, menu and web-site to show me being over charged, still the own has never reached out to correct this. Clearly they hire anyone. Just went for the first time in over a year. This place isn't the same anymore. The bagels aren't bagels anymore, way too soft and thin.

Not sure they are still open? Tried calling to place an order as their website instructed- first time just got a message their voicemail was full. Second time I called it was answered but they immediately hung up. Lox bagel on everything - very salty and light on the tomato, but the texture of the bagel was very nice Bacon egg and cheese - hard roll was a weird texture but otherwise good Smoothies - was hoping for ones made with real fruit but these are the ones with syrup and ice. Adorable bagel place with very cute outdoor seating. You order at the window and they have a lovely display case of their specialty bagels l. Notable bagel flavors included tomato pesto bagels, french toast, and a bacon egg and cheese bagel. I opted for the bacon egg and cheese bagel with cream cheese, and it was perfectly toasted with the right amount of bacon on top. Very unique and delicious. I wish I could give zero stars. Overpriced mediocre food, long lines, and bad service with orders often incorrect. They use toast tab for online ordering but never update their menu or inventory so it's possible to pay for items they've run out of or don't even have at all. The owner apparently is the only one who can authorize a refund in this situation, but it takes days to hear from someone and to have it processed. We've had so many bad experiences there we started using Deke as a turn of phrase when something goes wrong. read more

Deke's has the best bagel in the area, hard to dispute. I haven't been impressed with sandwiches lately. My last egg sandwich with bacon and cheese was really just a bacon sandwich. It was very greasy and I didn't even taste the one egg that was maybe there too. This was disappointing for a $9.70 sandwich and a decent wait. The visit prior, I had the Lox sandwich. This cost $13.69 and a 20+ minute wait. It wasn't worth either. The cream cheese was clumped on one side. The lox was not generous. The other toppings were tossed on in a pretty sloppy fashion. To make it even more challenging, the bagel wasn't cut in half. Again, a super tasty bagel. We know prices have gone up. The quality and customer experience shouldn't be compromised though. read more

They make a pretty good bagel. Lots of choices . Haven't tried the sandwiches but they look / sound good. Bagels are chewy but not totally firm have nice taste but toppings tend to spill to the center and are not evenly dispersed on or through bagel. Only offer whipped cream cheese with flavors not a fan as it falls everywhere ! But tasty none the less. For the shoreline which has limited options outside Cohens it's a good go to ! read more

The menu posted outside said $15, which was a bit much I thought, but opted for it anyway. A very pleasant cashier rang it up for $14.25, plus tax, not $15 like it was posted. I guess i got a deal- but it makes you wonder what other prices don't match up. Seems like Deke's has a quality issue in operations (not the food), and a little attitude problem, based on that tacky response to Dave C's issue below. Good burrito though, no doubt. read more
