Had an iced American and strawberry lemonade. Both were pretty good but the coffee was a little weak. Also got a vanilla frosted donut with sprinkles that was decent and an m&m cookie! In all honesty this place is a little over hyped and we've had better coffee other places

    Black Raven amazing

As I remembered pre-Covid days - the space has expanded (or moved) not quite sure but service was quick and friendly. Donuts exceptional. Love that they elevated the options and I'm a "cream filled" girl so the Black Raven or whatever it's called and the Boston Creme with dark chocolate ganache were perfect for enjoying half at a time (and then devouring like a fat a**)

Line out the door, donuts, coffee, sign me up. The line moves fast, and the servers are nice when you're trying tod decide which to go with - so don't let a crowd deter you. First time here and we went with the key lime donut, earl gray and blackberry pear. Earl gray was the weak link. It didn't have any early gray flavor, however the cream filling was quite nice, subtly sweet and overall the donut itself was great texture wise. Just flat out missed on flavor. The blackberry pear was good- a little more pear emphasis than blackberry, and if you're thinking "pear doesn't have a ton of flavor as is....?", you're catching on. This donut was also missing on flavor a hit- not as much as the earl gray though. It was good. Wasn't a fan of the sugar coating though, too gritty for me. Key lime pie donut is where it's at. I assume this won't stay for the fall so hop on it while you can. If I could have gotten 3 of these instead of the other 2, I would have. It packed zestiness, creamy custard filling, pie crumbles, the whole gambit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The patio was covered in crumbs- and now I know why. People were probably eating this winner of a donut.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Be selective. But I don't know, they're donuts, have fun.

I've been wanting to try this place for a few years now, and after having been to a yelp event about 10-minutes away, we planned to make this our next stop. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a cute location across the street from the Mystic Aquarium.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ended up ordering a half dozen donuts and a couple of cookies. There was only 1 employee there that I could see. I went back in line to grab a coffee and a chocolate chip cookie. Didn't bother to check the bag it was in, until we got home. 90-minutes later. It wasn't a chocolate chip cookie. I don't know what it was. I'm assuming their cannoli cookie? Either way, it wasn't for me. I can't speak for my traveling companions for the day, but I did cut a bite of both the maple donut and the vanilla glaze, and wasn't impressed. The maple needed more ... maple flavor. The vanilla was dry. There's way better places in CT for amazing donuts, but for myself, Deviant was just meh.

Very very good. Ordered 2 Caramel Iced Lattes and a carrot cake fritter. Very quick and friendly staff. My only regret was not trying more! They change their menu monthly with 12 new donuts. Cant wait to try next months.

I can never make it here in the morning, so I had a friend pick some up for us this time! And for that reason, I wish there was another one in the state!! This time we got the a coconut and caramel drizzled donut with a Boston cream and a white chocolate turtle on top

Delicious donuts! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Quick service considering the fast forming line, and lots of outdoor seating to enjoy your sweet treats.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All of our donuts were delicious, my favorite was the "Samoan" but it he vanilla glaze and double chocolate were the equally delicious. A perfect sweet treat or breakfast before exploring mystic village!

The line was out the door and the donut choices were limited by the time we got there around 3pm on Saturday of holiday weekend. Line went fast. Service was friendly and helpful. Got a seasonal special cookie iced latte and it was delicious! The pizza donut was so generous, we shared it. Fluffy tasty dough, with a caramel creme. It made me happy just to experience it. Loved it here. Absolutely will come back next time we are here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a walk in/walk out place with some tables on a porch. We were fortunate to get a table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great donuts and coffee choices. Fair pricing. Loved it!

I really liked this place! The cream they use in their donuts is phenomenal - super light and fluffy. The best thing I had here was their pistachio donut. The pistachio cream and icing was absolutely delicious! I also had their orange creamsicle cake donut which was filling, and their drip coffee was pretty good. My husband said his cortado was so-so and his lemon cookie was kind of dry, but at least I got some good items. It's a bit pricy for what it is, but look where it's located. Overall though, I think this is a good spot.

de·vi·ant - departing from usual or accepted standards. And that's EXACTLY what these donuts do. Food We had the Petite Four, and it was really decadent. Rich but not overwhelming, with just the right amount of sweetness. It was kind of like a jelly donut. We also got the carrot cake donut. The cream cheese frosting was amazing, but the donut was not like a carrot cake at all. Not bad, just not a carrot cake. More a spice cake, in my opinion. I also grabbed two classic glazed donuts for the kids, and they loved them. The texture was soft, the glaze had that perfect light crackle, and everything tasted super fresh. We both tried different featured beverages and they were both good but the flavors were not strong enough. Ambiance [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is adorable, natural chic, and fits the Mystic vibe perfectly. It's a small space, though, so don't expect to hang out inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service It was pretty packed when we went, but the staff was incredibly patient and friendly. Even with a line, they never made us feel rushed. And literally, as soon as we left, the line was out the door! It's located inside Olde Mistick Village, which makes it a great stop during a stroll. The menu rotates with creative, themed donuts, so there's always something new to try. Deviant Donuts absolutely lives up to its name. If you're in Mystic, don't skip it.

We stopped in one morning while waiting for the Mystic Aquarium to open across the street. I had the Oreo Donut which was great, and a tall drip coffee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We enjoyed our breakfast on the deck, as there is no indoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was friendly and [[HIGHLIGHT]]we loved the little grouping of storefronts.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I came back to Deviant Donuts recently on a Saturday morning. There wasn't much of a line waiting to get inside. I liked how their menu was different from the last time I went there. I ordered the Mimosa (Jelly Filled) donut and M&M Cookie. Each were $3.95. The orange champagne jam inside the mimosa donut was very good and there was a good amount of filling. The cookie was soft and a good size. On the deck, there were about 6 tables and we sat at one of the tables. It was nice to enjoy our treats before walking around Olde Mistick Village more.

Deviant Donuts is located in Olde Mistick Village near the aquarium. My donut reviews have evolved into two rating categories. Classic donut shops with familiar donuts like glazed, blueberry cake and Boston Creams with customer friendly pricing (the average cost per donut is typically less than $2 if you buy at least a 1/2 dozen) is Category 1. "Gourmet" Donut Shops with more elaborate donuts and higher prices per donut is Category 2. You can't fairly compare the two. If you had a donut from each category on a plate, you'd almost always choose the second category because it's probably bigger, flashier and tastes more like a dessert than the donuts you grew up with. But if you had to pay the higher price for that more elaborate donut, you might very well pick the cheaper classic donut. Especially if you're buying a dozen for guests. At a cost of about $3.65 to $3.95 per donut, Deviant Donuts is Category 2. Some of the donuts (Vanilla Glazed, Boston Cream, Double Chocolate, and Chocolate Sprinkled) are not especially elaborate, but they're bigger than traditional donuts and cost more. I'm a big fritter fan. So I went with the Blackberry Pear Fritter. It was good, but at $3.95, I'd prefer the elaborate donuts available from other Category 2 places, and cheaper donuts from Category 1 places. Also, I didn't detect much pear flavor and I prefer a fritter with some crispier parts. I know Deviant Donuts has many fans. I'm more of a Category 1 Donut Shop guy. If I want to spend around $4 or more, I'd rather get a cupcake. 4 Stars

There were a lot of intriguing options to choose from. I had the chilaquiles ($15) and a Cacio Pepe doughnut ($4). The chilaquiles had corn tortilla chips, salsa Verde, salsa Macha, cotija, white onion, cilantro, and a fried egg. The chips appeared to be homemade, and they were tremendous along with the salsa Verde and Macha. There was a nice kick to the salsas and a perfect crunch from the chips. However, it just felt like the dish was mostly chips. I felt like more toppings could be added or an additional egg. The fried egg was also a little overcooked, guess when ordering, we could have specified how we wanted it to be cooked. The doughnut was okay. The sourdough base was very solid, but essentially just a lot of cheese on top. I was not sure what to expect regarding this type of doughnut, but this was the least optimal choice. Will I go back? I would.

We were seated at a lovely table for two overlooking Main Street - watching people stroll by from that elevated perch behind glass felt almost cinematic. The real star of the show was the food, which is ultimately what you're there for, and it delivered. The menu offers plenty of options without being overwhelming. I started with the Crispy Pig's Head as an appetizer - a bold choice that turned out to be outstanding. For my entrée, the bucatini with seacoast mushrooms, sherry, parmesan, mushroom cream, and fine herbs was perfectly cooked, and carried a subtle but deeply flavorful sauce. And the housemade sourdough with poblano honey butter? Absolutely outstanding. To be fair, our server took a little time to warm up but found their footing and gave us everything we needed. Parking in Mystic on a busy weekend night can also be a challenge and expensive. Neither is reason enough to skip this one. Ship Wright's Daughter is exactly the kind of restaurant Mystic deserves. My husband and I got married last December. We decided we would hold off on celebrating with our family and invite everyone out from California to join us for a weekend full of activities in Connecticut and a special dinner at Shipwright's Daughter during Memorial Day weekend. We contacted the restaurant's events team to work out high level details starting in late January - to book a private room and hold a date and time. From the get go, the communication we received from the event staff was dismal to say the least. Not only did the events manager misquote the estimate for the room reservation, she came back and asked for a much higher price (up charging by an additional 30% of the original minimum fee) two months after we confirmed and discussed the date. She then explained it was due to the holiday weekend. Our date had never changed from the moment we inquired, so we would have appreciated knowing this upfront. Over the course of several months (and an absurd number of emails and a few calls), we tried to solidify the menu and wine selection and made multiple attempts before hearing back from the team. It was about two weeks before the big event when we were able to confirm a menu. It was about four days before the event that we heard back from the beverage director, but by then, my husband and I had already decided we would bring our own wine bottles, not wanting to leave it to chance with this team. I won't go into further details about the frustration we felt regarding their system for communications (they use an internal system that doesn't make it easy for guests to know who is copied on emails and who sees what). That is something I hope they will work out. When the big day came, I walked into the room and noticed there were a number of chairs missing, so I counted the chairs. They had an incorrect number of chairs for adults and not enough high chairs for the toddlers. We had requested a specific number of these chairs (weeks prior and mentioned it multiple times in writing), and I thought it was safe to assume that this was a basic checklist item for events set up. I was dumbfounded in the moment. I couldn't help but wonder what else they were going to miss or mess up that evening. It was disappointing to have our family members wait while the staff scrambled to pull other chairs into the room. From the time it took to take everyone's order from the set menu, the time between courses being served, and the attentiveness for pouring water and wine - all of it was a miss. The level of hospitality that we expected from a restaurant so recognized for its incredible food and approach to sustainable sourcing was completely overshadowed by the lack of attention and care by its staff - since day one of planning this event. Even a few of our family members commented on this during the dinner. At the end of the day, we felt like an obligation rather than welcomed guests, and that is mainly why I'm leaving this review. We had been patrons of Shipwright's a couple of times prior to this event, which is why we chose this establishment - to represent the best that Connecticut has to offer, when it comes to a dining experience we could vouch for. We no longer feel that we can recommend this restaurant. If you care about hospitality, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

The nachos had diced tuna, sliced avocado, Pico de Gallo, topped with spicy avocado sauce and tobiko and served over fried wonton skins. There was a nice portion here. I thought they were going to be small wontons, but this was a pleasant surprise. There was a great ratio of flavors, and I really enjoyed the small dicing of everything. The bao buns were topped with sliced cucumbers, spring onions, carrots, and some type of sweet hoisin sauce it appeared. The chicken was very crispy and tasty. The bun was okay. It was a little tough. I did enjoy the sweet factor from the sauce to pair with the hot and crunchy chicken. The Mystic River roll had tuna, salmon, mango, as well as avocado topped with spicy mayo and was wrapped in a rice wrapper. This was alright. There was a lot of mayo present, which took away from the fish flavor, but it still was not bad. The rice wrapper was an interesting choice, but overall, okay. Will I go back? Probably.

The beverages have been perfect and the service has been friendly every time. I certainly appreciate the existence of the outdoor seating even if I didn't choose it on this late-September excursion. Just like my local JC branch, the Yelp rating here is out-of-whack. As baristas are drawn into dumb political sagas and forced to comply with more corporate rules, I appreciate their hard work.

They have shaded seating if you'd like to sit out of the sun. I got an iced latte, but instead they called my name with a hot latte. I would have taken it, but on a particularly warm day, and sitting on the outdoor patio an iced latte was what I wanted. They remade it iced for me. I felt a bit guilty asking for a new one, because the hot one was probably fine. They apologized for the confusion. I sat outside and enjoyed.
