First off, don't go here. A woman recently went missing from this location. It's *alleged* that staff had her wait till closing to fill out an application. They were performative enough to post the missing poster on their Instagram, but oddly turned off comments, which leads me to believe these allegations, and that Dixie Tavern was absolutely complicit in her disappearance. My personal experience with this location is a scam speed-dating event I had attended where they had like 15 guys, and 3 girls standing in who probably worked for the organization. It's very unethical for Dixie to allow this scam business to operate in their space for the right amount of money. Also the food is trash. read more

Some of my favorite memories of hanging out with friends, drinking, dancing and partying happened here at Dixie's. This is unusual, as I have an intense dislike for both country music and hip hop, and this *country-themed* bar, that plays almost nothing *but* hip hop (wut?), and yet, here I have come, over and over, for years now, usually in the company of a bevy of gorgeous women. At this point, my loyalty to Dixie is likely just a mild form of Stockholm Syndrome. But that's not to say it doesn't have it's perks. First off, for a club as densely packed as Dixie tends to be, their service is phenomenal. I'm not referring to the attractive women in cut-off shorts and cleavage-bearing cut T-shirts (although I could be), but they manage to mix and serve cocktails at unheard of speeds, and crank food out of the kitchen faster than several professional restaurants that I hold in high regard. Whoever manages this place knows what the hell he/she is doing, and trains/picks their employees well. Things of which to be aware: * Come after 10pm and you *will* pay a cover. (Concerning this, though, one positive I can say is that I've never experienced any gate-keeping just for being male, like some other clubs do). * About once an hour or so, the (all-female) bartenders will get up on the bar and dance for the duration of a short song. * The coat check is unmanned far more than it is staffed, regardless of season or weather conditions. * Cocktails are surprisingly, reasonably priced (and sizeable) considering they have a captive audience. I suspect the cover takes the edge off and helps keep them competitive. * Lots of drunk "dude bros" and their ilk on weekend nights, but as a whole, their patrons are a step above those crammed into Dirty across the street (and similar dives). If you're going to come to Dixie (and it sounds like I am recommending it!), do yourself a favor: come early, and come prepared. The experience is not exactly the one that is advertised, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It must not be, because I keep coming back. Nostalgia is one helluva drug, it seems! read more

Visited Dixie on a trip. Sunday night was a little slow but that was the vibe I needed. There were some regulars and visitors. Karaoke was going and was decent as karaoke can be. Came to Dixie's for a friend's birthday this past weekend and had a pretty good time. We came just in time for their Santa hat party, which was fun. I liked the bartenders and the drinks here, two drinks for $15 isn't a terrible price and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the drinks. The music was definitely iffy, it was the same kind of music you would find in a college bar. Other than that, this place had a fun ambiance and atmosphere, and I appreciated how clean the bathrooms were. They do charge a $15 cover fee to get in, which I think is a little high for this place. Maybe I'm just used to cheaper cover fees, but I don't know if this place is worth $15 to get in on top of getting drinks, etc. Overall, this place was a fun time, just a little expensive once everything was added up. read more

UNSAFE PLACE FOR TRANS PEOPLE!!!!!! I am a trans man & was reported to security for using the men's restroom. I was confronted by a security guard, asking me to speak to him outside. I said no. Whatever it was he needed to say to me he needs to say it in an open space. I was told that I cannot use the men's restroom. (If it matters, I was wearing masculine clothing, with a slight amount of makeup on, but overall masc presenting). Once I explained that I am a man, a trans man, he says "DOESN'T MATTER. YOU ARE A FEMALE, YOU USE THE GIRLS RESTROOM. IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE COME SPEAK TO OUR MANAGER." I refused to speak to him any further and ended up leaving at my own will. Oregon has anti-discrimination laws that allow people to use the restroom that corresponds with their gender identity. It is my legal right. He needs to be fired. If you're LGBTQ please protect yourself & do not come here. read more

Taking temperatures and keeping the cliental distanced are a priority. The beer is cold and the service is very friendly. The bar staff even performed a boot scootin piece on top of the bar. I had the beef sliders. Well prepared. I think they might have been missing a sauce but they were still great. Fries were smoking hot. Great time. read more

It's a cool bar. Good music and delicious drinks. But I came here the day before Christmas Eve and ordered some drinks with my friends. The bartender made us some really good drinks and we left her a tip. We came back up a little later and ordered our 2nd drink, bartender said she needed to see everyone getting a drink to determine if we were intoxicated or not, so my friend went to grab our other friend to bring to the bar. Bartender got really mad about that and said she was the bartender and to stop doing her job.. literally did what she asked of us. She was being really rude after that telling my friend to go sit down and get away from her. So I did not leave her a tip that time cause she was rude. She then proceeded to come to my table and yell at me that I didn't give her a tip and be rude to my entire table. I work at a bar and that is absolutely not okay to yell at the customers for not leaving a tip or even say anything about the tip. Your tip is based on service and hers was not good that time around. Visited Dixie Tavern last night and wasn't very impressed. Got there at 9:30pm and had to wait 45 min in line in the cold to go inside. (The place was at max capacity so that's why). We paid $20 cover to get in for NYE. The girls working the cover booth and the security guy were very nice. Once I got in I was not impressed though! It felt like all the popular losers from high school that didnt amount to anything were there. I am 29 and I felt like the oldest person at Dixie. Everyone looked to be 21-26 and there wasn't a good mix of people. I felt too high caliber for the people at this establishment that night. I won't be going back. My friends and I stopped by here last night Sunday, July 28th after the soccer game. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience and rather discriminating. Upon arrival it was just us and a few other people in the bar. My friends ordered drinks and I got a water. It was karaoke night and more people started arriving. All genres were being played, all different songs were being played and we were having a great time singing and dancing along. My group was sitting at a table and although this doesn't matter we were the only Latinos in the bar at the time. We then asked to karaoke to a song by Drake and the DJ told us "nobody likes that music in here" mind you, there were plenty of different music playing, also it is karaoke so we thought it was what we liked? Anyways, we kind of laughed it off and let it slide. Awhile later we approached again and asked for another Drake song and she then "added it to her Que" but did not take our names like she was with everyone else to call up when it was our turn. We waited well over a few songs(noticing many people who were coming in after us singing before us) until we nicely asked "how many more songs until our song?" she told us "4 more songs!" Fast forward quite awhile later she rudely comes up to our table, after practically the bar has cleared and she can see none of us is up and dancing anymore, "which one of you are singing" obviously this rubbed us all the wrong way and we immediately felt wrong about it. 1. Why was she calling everyone else up but she came up to our table? 2. Why did we put in our song in the very beginning of the night but it's just now getting played? 3. Why did she come up so rude towards us when we have been nice the entire night? She then went and got her security to escort us out, which we had no problem leaving as we were on our way out anyways with how rude she was to us. One of her security was very nice and understand, again unfortunately I did not grab anyone name. Her other security guy put his hands on a female in our group more than one time which is unacceptable as we were not being hostile or touching them in any way shape or form. All in all, it was very disappointing how we were treated rather it was because of the music we had asked for, or the way we looked. Because I guarantee you it was not because we were not tipping well or being disrespectful to them because up until the very end we tipped on every drink we got and were nice with every interaction we had. I would absolutely give this place ZERO stars if I could. We waited in line for 1.5 hours and watched 40 people leave the place while we waited in line as they chose people who entered the fast pass, VIP line without a wait. They simply only knew the bouncers and were let in- completely unbelievable and terrible customer service. This is a horrible way to treat hs timers and leave them stranded out in the cold, wet rain and still charge them $20+ dollars. CAMERON the bouncer is the most biased, arrogant, selfish security guard. He is power tripping over his position and abusing it. He will let any girl in who hugs him. My friend and I were just walking about downtown without a single purpose in mind. We just so happened upon this place out of per happenstance. We walk in and the bartender treats us like we've returned to a place that we've called home for our entire lives. We felt so at home and then the owner of the bar approaches. He talks to us like family, no hint of type of artificial customer flattery. He spoke to us with organic human respect that comes with a wise understanding of the human experience. And now we have been here for only a couple hours, but we cannot help but feel like this entire experience has been tailored for specifically for ourselves. I have never felt so welcomed and accepted in any other type of place before. It wasn't horrible but it was awful. The music is literally a YouTube playlist of random pop and country songs from the 2000's and then random 90's rap (good songs but now to the image of all the female patrons thrusting like chickens and repeatedly doing the bend & snap) Nearly every man looked like a college or grad student who was there just to watch the female bartenders do their late evening show. Didn't even bother with drinks but maybe I should have well before entering the establishment to get a even a little enjoyment out of it. In the end I'm grateful for this experience because from now on with it lingering ever so unpleasantly in the back of mind -- I can actually enjoy the shitty bars in downtown San Jose, CA. Honestly very disappointing experience and I didn't even get inside. Stood outside in the for 30 min and watched as the bouncers let multiple groups bribe their way in and not have to stand line. I used to go to Dixie all the time, but after that experience I don't think I will be. Security that takes bribes, doesn't seem very "secure" to me. Brought it up to the short bouncer with long black hair and the taller guy with a short pony and all they had to say was "thanks bro". Terrible customer service. read more

Came in with a group of friends and had a great time drinking at the bar and dancing with the locals. This really isn't my usual kind of spot to grab a cocktail, but my friends in PDX love the place. The bar staff nor security were friendly or polite. My party of four had a few drinks and were minding our own business on the main floor. We were approached by a member of the security and thought it was because our masks were off while enjoying our drinks. She started asking extremely inappropriate, vulgar, sexual questions to me about another member of our group. She then said, "Unfortunately, you can't be here. You need to leave." Confused about why we needed to leave all of a sudden after her outrageous inquiry, she called for backup to escort us all out. We were not being loud, disrespectful to her or anyone else at the bar or intoxicated to the level of being cut off. I guess they can afford to kick out paying customers when they charge a $10 cover. It's disappointing to see so many reviews that discuss discrimination. After my experience here I am not surprised. Moreover, the responses from the owner to poor reviews are sarcastic and do little to remedy the negative experience these customers have. I have never felt safer with the bouncers and staff looking out for the safety of my sisters and I. A man was sexually gesturing towards my sister and then aggressively verbally attacking me when the bouncer interjected and removed the individual. The bouncer was kind enough to ensure I was safe when I was ready to leave by walking me to my Uber to ensure I was in good hands. I cannot say kind enough things about this staff and management. I have now been here twice, 6 months apart, and both times I have had one of the best times ever. I don't live in Portland, but I am here visiting I like to go here at least once and last night was awesome. My sister and I went, we got there around 7:45pm, because if you don't want to pay the cover charge, it is better to get in before 9pm, also you have happy hour till 9pm so we munched on some fries and had a couple shots before the people started flowing in. They all flowed in like crazy. It got packed quick. What we did not know is that Friday nights at 8pm they do Goldfish racing and its free. It was a lot of fun even thought I fished lost the second round. It was so ridiculous, but fun. All our drinks were great. We had a very good bartender, wish I would have got her name. The music is good and the people were not shady, they were fun. I love it when I bar of drunk people get together on a dance floor and start doing the cupid shuffle. So entertaining. Also, through out the night the girls do a dance on the bar, kind of like Coyote Ugly in Vegas, where I am from, and then they have girls from the bar get up and dance to a song. My sister and I actually went up and it was a lot of fun. This bar is pretty sweet. read more

Cool atmosphere and good energy. However, all is lost once you enter. Not one staff member I talked to was polite. They constantly rushed me and my friends, and one barista yelled at my friend when she misheard her at the bar. The bouncy immediately eyed up and made made an extremely inappropriate comment towards my girl friends at the door. I'm sure this place could be a great place to start or end a night, but the staff truly ruined it for me, my friends, and countless others I know. Bad staff members made us feel unwelcome, and I would recommend finding somewhere else. :( read more

This is a really fun bar to come to in Portland... I have been hear numerous times both on Sundays and busy weekend nights. They do a pretty good job or making this place not get overcrowded.
