I went here 7/25 to try the special slushee from the Portland Mercury's $10 slushee-month promotion. The bar was pretty quiet (but we went at 3:00 PM on a Sunday, so I can't speak to peak hours!) The bartender was very friendly, and the vibe was pretty casual. Lots of emo/punk music, which was a plus for me. The slushee was good-- strong, sweet, and had enough tea flavor to come through but not completely overpower the peach. I really do heart Loyal Legion. The beer selection is incredible and I could sit here for a while trying out one of the great rotating NE-ipa's on draft. But it's also a cool space, dark and woodsy on the inside, with a good amount of outdoor seating too. And even further, they have a good amount of vegan options (when the hunger inevitably comes on.) Yes, it's bar food (fried, beige) but who can say no to a vegan corn dog?! Though it can get busy (particularly on weekends/nights), service is typically very attentive. We learned about loyal legion through their new location the Portland airport Pdx. And we had to try their city location. And it is as good as it is at the airport. A beer house yes but as non beer drinkers you will enjoy it as well. First they have ice tea and lemonade so other than just fountain drinks this makes me happy. But who knows me I do not come for the drinks I'll come for the food and at loyal I'll stay for the food. They offer a nice selection of vegetarian options besides some burger and fried items. The vegetarian dogs are fantastic and so delicious. They even make a veggie corn dog. The salads are fresh and yummy. I had a burger with fig jam and goats cheese simply perfect. And we tried the pretzel with the spicy cheese sauce. It's not to spicy but have a nice kick. It doesn't burn your tongue so we definitely recommend it ordering with the cheese sauce. All in all they have a fair price and with them having a full bar and lots of beers there is no reason for you to not try it :) no excuse :) read more

My wife and I stumbled on this PDX bar recently while waiting for a flight to arrive. It's way up high above the fray and makes for good people watching as passengers arrive below. Hungry for a quick bite, we ordered burgers and drinks at the bar--the house smash burger (at $9, perhaps the best deal in PDX) and a monthly special burger with caramelized onions and cheese. Tots and fries on the side. Yum. Also ordered the house Old Fashioned that was stiff as hell. In short, it was all good and one of the best airport bars I've visited anywhere. Seat yourself, but there are no clean tables. Had to look around, but couldn't find staff to clean a table, so ended up clearing somebody's dishes and wiping down the table myself. Nobody ever came to clean any tables while we were there. Went to the bar to order, stood where the "order here" sign is, only to be 100% ignored by the bartender (Christina has no business working in customer service) for no less than 4 minutes. Never made eye contact or acknowledged my presence, she was a miserable person. She walked by again and I finally asked if this is where I order, only to be given a nasty side eye and an unfriendly "uh huh". Apparently she works at Capers too, the poor place. All the staff seemed miserable. Took about 25 minutes for a chicken sandwich and corn dog. The corn dog was so burnt and messy I had to peel the scorched fried batter off most of it. Wasn't about to send it back as I'm sure somebody would do something gross to my food and have to wait another 25 minutes. I have eaten here before, and it was mediocre then too. Came during week week with my husband expecting it to be wild, but we got to order right up at the bar. I was honestly thrilled to find a place with a vegetarian corn dog, so I ordered that and the fried cauliflower. Both were 10/10. The corn dog was the first one I've had in years and clearly fried fresh to order. The cauliflower was delightfully crispy and came with a house made ranch that I couldn't get enough of. The price was honestly really good, too! I sat outside with my dogs so I can't speak too much to the interior, but the vibe looked cozy with dim lighting and plants hanging from the ceiling. My completely-sane and non-belligerent group of friends came to eat and drink here after our mutual friends' wedding. Both the bride and groom were in attendance. We were just socializing and enjoying eachother. At approximately 11:20p (40min before closing) one of the female bartenders denied us anymore food or drinks because we were "drunk" (I wish we were-- mind you I'm typing this right after the experience we had). It completely tainted our experience here and i don't enjoy ordering with bartenders who treat customers this way. Only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 was because the first round of food we grabbed there was great. Be better, don't be ridiculous to customers. This place does it right! Every brewery with 99+ beers on tap please take note and do it how Loyal Legion does! A flight of 8 beers?!?! Yes, please and thank you! Though this spot has the most beers on tap that I have ever seen, it does not give off tap room vibes at all. Instead, it gives off sleek and swanky bar vibes. We went for the beer so I didn't notice a cocktail list, but based on the number and type of liquor bottles they have in the bar, I'm assuming they could make almost anything. Loved that they had printed out menus with all the beers on tap listed, and numbered so you didn't have to cram the beer name into the little circle on the selection sheet. Beers were organized by style which made it as easy as it could be to make your selection....still hard though because they had so many to choose from. Pours were nice and big....much bigger than I expected to receive with 8 whole tasters, and that is not a complaint. If anything, it's a cautionary tale to order some food! I ordered fires and the others in my group ordered smash burgers, which were only $7 - maybe it's the Californian in me, but what a steal! I was lucky enough to get a bite of one of the burgers and damn were they good, I messed up not ordering one. Aside from the killer beer selection and food, the service was great. The bartenders were fun, friendly, and helpful, totally added to the experience. Only downside was that there isn't a ton of seating for groups. When we first got there we crammed into a two person table, once we realized the flights and food wouldn't fit we had to prowl around and wait for a bigger space to open up. read more

hi! I want to start this off by saying I'm a server bartender, and had gotten off of a 9 hour busy shift before coming from my local pub I work at. My friends and I came around 9, and it seemed pretty busy. Long story short, their was a super pretty bartender who was female presenting with red hair. She tells us that she in the only one on staff and to find a seat and she would be over. A little bit of an attitude, but I get it, they are busy. We waited for 20 mins, and ended up having to get our own menus. We then watched her help three new tables that had walked in after us. Not super cool, but I get it. Turns out there is another employee there, so she lied I guess? He takes our drink and food orders and was nice and timely. The drinks were good and our food came about 45-50 mins in. But it's busy, so I get it. The female presenting bartender brought us our food, and we realized it was missing an advertised item. It was the Irish fries, and it did not come with carrots. It was also kinda cold, but we chose not to say anything about that, so that's on me. That's not a big deal, but we ironically got it soley for the carrots. We ask for her to come back, and very politely tell her that we don't see any carrots and just if there was any way to check and see if we could get them on the side. No apology, except she said "I've never had it, I wouldn't know. it's a new special and has been here for two days". Okay and? Thats literally the same job I have, and I would have treated the situation so differently. She comes back, and tells us that they ran out. No offer to a different solution, no apology, just being rude and dismissive about it. I understand that our male server probably didn't know, and could have told us before we ordered with him, but we are still customers at the restaurant they BOTH work at, at the end of the day. Look, I'm usually a die hard 30% tipper and I only tipped 2$ on the tab. Since I work in the area, and in the industry, I myself have even recommended to customers at my job that I have heard good things about loyal legion and they should check it out. I was excited to, but the service time was so long and the attitude was not appreciated :( No longer will be recommending to my customers. read more

Checked in multiple times with the wait staff and were told that there was a 45 min wait for food, though they didn't tell us this when we ordered. Those who arrived after us received their food first, but the staff did not seem concerned... Turns out the ticket was lost. It was disappointing that while the staff said that they were sorry about the lost ticket, they didn't seem to care that we waited for 80 min and reached out to the staff multiple times before they checked to see if they even had our order ticket in the kitchen. read more
