Wow! Wow! WOW! This place is great! The food was truly exceptional. We tried about seven or eight different dishes at our table and all were excellent. I think our favorite was the catfish! If you go be sure to try Ernie's fingers. So so good. But the Jambalaya, Vegetarian Rice w/Jack Fruit, Fried Chicken, Roasted Carrots, Yeast Rolls, Pea Flower Tea Lemonade and all the other stuff was simply wonderful. I really wanted to like Dixie Pura based on all the great reviews, but unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to the hype. I'm actually writing this review while standing outside waiting for my Uber. We ordered the Ernie's Fingers, Southern Curry Chicken, and Pimento Mac & Cheese. Let's start with tha ambience. The decor is inviting but it is VERY small inside. On to the food. The Ernie's Fingers were especially disappointing. For $15, I expected much more. They were essentially egg rolls filled with collard greens and cornbread--no meat at all. While the concept sounded interesting, it didn't justify the price tag. The biggest disappointment, however, was the food quality compared to the cost. The Southern Curry Chicken was dry and overcooked and really needed some type of sauce. The rice was simply plain white rice--nothing memorable and certainly not what I'd expect for a dish that costs around $40 - chicken and rice, literally. The pimento mac & cheese was also much saltier than I prefer. What made the experience even more disappointing was how we were treated. By the end of our 90-minute dining window, we were made to feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. It felt as though we were being rushed out of the restaurant, which left a bad impression and took away from what should have been an enjoyable meal. To add to that, the automatic 20% gratuity was also a letdown. I have no problem tipping for great service, but considering the overall experience--from the food quality to feeling rushed out the door--it didn't feel deserved. Maybe I visited on an off day because so many others have had great experiences. I can only speak to my visit, and unfortunately, between the overpriced food, disappointing flavors, feeling like an inconvenience at the end of our meal, and the automatic gratuity, it simply wasn't worth the cost for me. read more

So restaurant is so warm and inviting and the food was as delicious as I had hoped- having slowed it on social media. I can't stop thinking about that yummy black garlic rice! Best I ever had!!! I can't wait to take my husband back. The Korean fried chicken is savory and super crispy! The Ernie's fingers - so good and different with a spice I didnt recognize but it was delish! It's great to have this restaurant as an option that's not too far from home. The food was very flavorful, and although the menu is relatively small, there was still a nice variety of options to choose from. The chef-owner was welcoming and took the time to come out and chat with guests during our visit, which I really appreciated. The service, however, was very slow, which is why I'm giving this restaurant four stars instead of five. We had to flag down our server, Sonjia, several times to request water and other items we needed for the table. I disliked that 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill, especially since the level of service did not reflect that amount. read more

This might be one of the most incredible dining experiences I've had. DixiePura is an intimating restaurant specializing in Southern Asian fusion. Smooth R&B and soul plays in the background as you enjoy delicious (and strong!) cocktails and delicious small plates and entrees. I enjoyed the Fingers (collard green and cornbread egg rolls). My sister stopped in to check out this new restaurant and bought me a pastry. I've been dreaming about this danish ever since I got it and can't wait to get another one. DixiePura is the name..and this chef is delivering flavor to the game!! Stop by on a Friday night to check this spot out. Greeted so kindly as soon as we walked in. First thing I noticed was how cute and intimate dixiepura is! Started with some drinks and app. We had the crab cakes, pork belly, and fingers! Everything was delicious but the fingers really were amazing! The mule was a delicious drink I just wish it was in a bigger glass. The chef came out and actually explained the dishes to us! I was here last week on my lunch break and had the most flavorful dish I've eaten in quite some time. If I wasn't sitting so close to another person, I may have stuck my face in the bowl and licked it clean. Alas, decorum strikes again. The owner was such a delight, sharing her upcoming Juneteenth menu (which sounds awesome, by the way) and chatting about the history of the place and general things. Haven't ever had a meal like this! We had the exquisite privilege to dine at DixiePura Kitchen tonight. It was a wonderful blend of Southeast Asian and American Southern flavors. Chef Chloe Gould had us from the first bite! Service was wonderful and the space was such a intimate and chill vibe. Absolutely great date spot!! Here is some of what we had, but I honestly doubt you could go wrong with anything there. 1) Salmon Croquettes which were so delicate and delicious. 2) Southern Curry Braised Curry Greens Eggrolls. Had us hooked with flavor and spices from the first bite. 3)Cajun Seafood Gumbo Laksa. Full of flavor, tender seafood and rice. Southern Curry Potlikker Cornbread. Pot Likker and cornbread....what more could you want? Creole Do Chua (Marinated Cabbage & Vegetables) wonderfully crisp and just the right balance of acid and sweet. 4) Braised Southern Smoked Baby Back Rib, Hainanese Style Rice, Soy Garlic Chili Crisp, Charred Green Onion. This place was absolutely fantastic! It's a small, but mighty addition to the Southside restaurant scene. It's cute, feels homey, and is well decorated. The staff were attentive. This review is long overdue. Chloe is such an amazing, kind, spirit. My husband and I stopped in during the holiday season, I was blown away by the food, the fusion ideas are great. I came for the collard green egg roll did not disappoint at all. The fried rice layered flavors were so good, my husband had the short rib, it fell right off the bone and it was in this reduction that was delicious. Chloe the chef/owner is one of those rare genuine people you meet that remind you that good people are in the world spreading their goodness. She gave us a world class experience, can't' wait to see what's next, Dixiepura is gonna be a force on the Chicago restaurant scene. read more

I purchased a ticket for Chef Chloe's Southern Prosperity Menu, hosted on New Year's Day. Walking into Dixie Pura Kitchen felt like a warm, family greeting. There were people already seated, community-style. I was asked to introduce myself as my coat was taken. There were a few embraces, and then we got to it! This menu was prepared with love and intention. Chef Chloe explained the significance of each course, and the ingredients in those courses. She was also careful to note what was vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc. I have a gluten intolerance, and the menu was VERY accommodating. Chef Chloe also prepared wonderfully paired cocktails. Everything was delicious. Each bite had a depth of flavor. It all tasted like love. I had to take off early, and I had a warm send-off from everyone in attendance. It was a wonderful experience. I will return, and hope that you'll experience the magic and love of Dixie Pura Kitchen, also. read more

My "partner" and I stopped here for a romantic pre-Valentine's dinner and we liked it so much that she moved her Galentine's gathering here. What's not to love? It's a cozy restaurant with prompt, caring, and friendly service from both Server Blair and Chef Chloe. Our cocktails were excellent, especially the refreshing Dixie Mule and the stronger Southern Bourbon Punch. Food wise, you can't miss Eddie's Fingers. We shared the gumbo and the southern chicken curry satay for large plates. Both were excellent, if I had to pick one I'm still remembering the satay flavours on my tongue, so that would be it. The Mississippi Chocolate was an excellent and sweet way to end our experience. We'll be back again. The only reason not to come here would be if you don't like meeting the chef in person. read more

Most of the 5-star reviews seem fake probably written by friends or family because this place doesn't even deserve one star. The food isn't good, the service is extremely slow, and the portions are very small for the price. I enjoy trying different restaurants, but this is definitely not one I'd ever return to. read more

The owner Chloe was very friendly and accommodating. She shared her history as a chef which is national and international. She took care in explaining which items were the most popular. Chloe gladly answered our questions about menu items. The food was tasty and well seasoned with spices and herbs. My friend and I went for Brunch. We both ordered the Korean Fried Chicken with garlic ginger soy and hoe cakes (similar to small wheat pancakes). The soy sauce made chicken a bit salty but the batter was nice and crispy. I also ordered a side of creamy grits which also had some rice mixed in which was different but had a good taste and texture. The espresso and Tropic Smoke cocktail Chloe made were both excellent.
