The AMAZING greens , SLAMMIN katfish & TASTY MAC & Cheese
    Antwan W.

The food was delicious and the place was really nicely decorated. We called ahead an hour or so before they were closing and they allowed us to come. I will give them a little grace because of that . I love seeing that so many young black men are employed there . Because it was the end of the night they were out of so many things....which was a little disappointing . I would absolutely suggest the young men getting uniforms and looking a bit more put together to match the ambiance of your place . We saw random t-shirts and SLIDES. The food was SLAMMIN (you should be proud . The fish was flavorful crispy & hot , the greens were sooooooo GOOD. My friends enjoyed their lamb chops too . OH!!!! And the music has us JAMMIN!!! The last critique was the take out situation . We had food we wanted to take home and was initially told they had no "to-go containers" which I gave an audible gasp and I said ARE YOU FOR REAL??!! Then he said they had little mini ones . So we were forced to stuff our leftovers in this mini sided containers (unacceptable) I then asked for a bag and was disappointed again when we were give these small handle-less paper lunch bags . Overall I would actually recommend this place because the food was a 10 out of 10 and the gentlemen were nice & kind . Some logistical things need it be ironed out that can be fixed (staff appearance , food supply , to-go containers) YAW go check them out & SUPPORT this amazing black woman & her staff.

This place is where you want to go if you want to immediately go into a food coma afterwards!! We're no strangers to all of the awesome businesses on Chicago Ave, and this place didn't disappoint! My husband chose this restaurant for date night because he wanted to compare the fish & grits with the ones he's had in the past as a born & raised southern boy. It was pretty quiet here on Saturday evening upon arrival, but we were seated quickly which is always a plus especially close to a holiday weekend. Service was prompt and friendly, we already had our orders planned out ahead of time, so we were ready to go as soon as we got there! Unfortunately, the fried salmon jerk pasta that I wanted wasn't available, but I had a backup just in case. What we ordered: fried catfish sliders, fish & grits, salmon+ shrimp, side of greens, and sweet tea (note: this is a BYOB establishment, so no cocktails or alcohol offered!) The catfish sliders were on our table probably less than 3 minutes from ordering them. As someone who has never tried catfish before and is really picky about fish in general, these sliders were DELISH. The breading and the way that they fried them made me wish I ordered the fried chicken instead of the salmon. The breading was ultra crispy without being too greasy while maintaining the moisture of the fish inside (also, no old oil taste here!) Our entrees came out soon after. Both were fresh+hot and straight out the kitchen. Portions were appropriate to the price, and everything was cooked perfectly. I kept stealing forkfuls of my husband's grits because they were that good. You could definitely see the butter pooling beneath them, but they weren't overly salty, so it was the perfect balance of richness and flavor. I'd say we were in and out with our leftovers boxed and check taken care of in less than 40 minutes (we're not the type of diners who like to sit around for hours)! Empty dishes were cleared quickly which was nice given the tables are quite small. Extra napkins were provided which was much appreciated because I personally always need them haha. As we were wrapping up, I heard a person at the table next to us exclaim that this was the best food they'd ever had, so that was something nice to remember the night by :) I think the only change I'd love to see would be different sauces accompanying the dishes! The sauce for the catfish sliders, grits, and salmon seemed to be the same. While it was a great sauce, I think that having a couple of different ones would really give more dimension to the awesome menu that they have here!

I followed the smell of home cooking and found this gem. The space is chic but small -- definitely consider reservations. My plate: greens, sweet potatoes, glazed wings, and a Soule Punch (non-alcoholic, but full of flavor). Everything was seasoned with love, comforting, and delicious. Great for date nights or small groups, and even better that it's proudly Black-owned. Left happy, full, and already planning to bring friends back for round two.

I've been wanting to try Soule to Soule for a while and it exceeded our expectations. The jerk shrimps were a perfect app to start - good blend of spice and shrimp cooked to perfection, then we tried honey drizzled chicken which was crispy and tender and fried catfish, the crust was super crisp and not oily at all! Selection of sides was fantastic - mash potato and cream corn were my absolute winners. The restaurant is cozy and quite intimate set up, the service was good and staff took good care of us. Thank you for hosting us!

I went today (9/6/25) for my birthday and had a great experience. The place was very clean and the food was amazing. Since our food was delayed, they kindly brought us free appetizers, which was a thoughtful touch. The staff was very nice and caring, and they even surprised me with free pudding for my celebration. I truly appreciated the service and will definitely be coming back!

Friendly staff, great service, and ambiance was vibing with 90s R&B, made the food absolutely tasty. BYOB made this place fabulously budget friendly. Will return for chicken wings.

This place has a fine dining room feel to it. The colors are rich and the lights are dim. Our waiter was attentive and moved effortlessly through the tables. The food was really good. We started with fried green tomatoes. They were crispy and full of flavor. Our main courses were fried chicken and fried catfish dinners. Both were fried very well and were crispy with good flavor. We choose the greens, Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes for our sides. All three were tasty. The greens have a nice savory heat to them. The Mac and cheese could have a bit more cheese for my desired taste. Let's not forget the Arnold Palmer! This mixture was balanced well. It was refreshing and had just the right amount of sweet to it.

Great food, awesome service, music was awesome. Decor and just the Ambiance was on point. Definitely recommend

The food is delicious and well prepared. I take my hat off to the chef. The prices are a little high for the portions. Catfish portion was small and cooked too hard. Salmon pasta was really good with a large piece of salmon and fresh shrimp. Fried green tomatoes were some of the best I've ever had. This restaurant has so much potential I really hate to only give them 3 stars, but the service is terrible. I went with my bf on a Saturday night. There's only metered street parking so plan extra time to find a spot. We had a reservation and arrived a few minutes early. No priority is given to reservations we were stuck waiting behind everybody else. The space is really small with no lobby or wait area and no hostess so it was a chaotic mess. Uber eats person waiting for an order, large party waiting to be seated for a birthday, plus the walk in patrons. The hostess is the waitress is the busboy is the bartender. One person doing 4 jobs for a full restaurant on a Saturday night is absolutely terrible. Long waits for everything even water. You better order everything at once cuz she may not return for 20mins while she waits on every other table. She was doing her best but please hire a couple more employees so the level of service matches the amazing food and decor. The bar area wasn't utilized at all. Nobody seated there and no bartender and no tv. It takes up half of a wall in a small space it needs to be used for something. All bar beverages were pre made or bottled cocktails or wine sold for inflated prices.

It's very clean and modern. The food was amazing. I started off with a peach lemonade/tea drink that was very good. I cannot remember the name, but it was spirit free. Next, I got the collard green dip. This is a must try when you go. Its so cheesy and delicious. It was perfectly seasoned. For my entre, I got the smother pork chops. OMG I did not expect that food to be so good. IDK what they seasoned that gravy with, but it was fire. The porkchops were delicious, and I loved the seasoned rice that it came with. My only complaint was that the kitchen moved very slowly on the night that I went. It took forever for my food to come out; however, I will say the taste of the food made up for the how long it took to come out.

Front of the house staff was very nice and kind and I was seated right away. However once we ordered the wait time was so bad that my cousin had finished her appetizer and we waited an additional 30 minutes for my collard green dip which was very good by the way. Everything was served one at a time with long wait times in between. By the time I received my entree I was full. I took a few bites of the Chicken and Fish and everything else I took home. Literally as soon as happy hour was over everyone around us started receiving their food very fast. The food was ok a little salty (batter from the chicken, fish and tomatoes). In addition your staff Karen was not so kind and very forgetful of what we asked for. I know she seemed overwhelmed for the area that she had. Our sentiments were shared with the manager but that was it. The owner came by to check in but she just breezed by. I'm not sure that told her of our complaint but as fast as she went by asking was everything ok I dont feel like she would have been open to what we had to say. Overall it was ok, A few suggestions...and yes I would return because maybe today was an off day and everyone deserves a chance to get it right, During Happy Hour everyone should get the same level of service, and if a different menu is offered it should be offered to everyone upon arrival. Nothing is perfect and we understand that and gave grace by waiting and being patient. But these are some easy fixes and I look forward to seeing that on my next visit!

Especially for soul food. Chicken and gravy - decent. The gravy was thick and tasty. Not salty thank the heavens. My issue with the entree was that you could tell the chicken had been sitting in the gravy too long. The crispiness was gone. Corn muffin was basic and small. Nothing special or out of the ordinary. It's the perfect spot for a large group, a fantasy football draft, game day, or any sports-watching event. The television screens are massive--there's virtually no chance of missing a play. Our server was fantastic. Friendly, relaxed, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. I also loved that she had a little robot assistant helping deliver food. It struck the perfect balance between technology and hospitality without losing the human touch. She guided us through both the menu and bar selections, and from there everything just kept getting better. The first thing we tried was the Soul Roll, and wow. Imagine all your favorite comfort foods wrapped inside an egg roll and fried to perfection. Brisket, mac and cheese, greens, and yams--all bundled together and served with a sweet yam syrup dipping sauce. It sounds outrageous because it is... in the best possible way. The ribs were tender and practically fell off the bone. The links brought just the right amount of spice. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and delicious. The greens and yams were flavorful, and the baked beans? Absolutely magical. As for the bar, it was a mixed experience. I ordered a lemon drop and was told they don't sugar the rim because it creates a mess on the floor. Personally, a lemon drop without a sugar rim feels a little incomplete. However, the bartender did earn some points back by serving it in a highball glass instead of one of their smaller martini glasses, explaining that we'd actually get more of the cocktail that way. Fair enough--I can appreciate that kind of honesty. If you're visiting Chicago and looking for great BBQ, put Wilma's on your list. Come hungry.

My party of four visited for Sunday brunch, and the restaurant was basically empty when we arrived. The escalator also wasn't working, which wasn't the best first impression. We ordered fried wings, rib tips, and drinks, but our food didn't come out together. For a table of four, it's disappointing when everyone isn't served at the same time. The biggest disappointment was the lemon drop martinis. After one sip, they were far too tart and overly citrusy for our taste. The glasses were still nearly full, so we politely asked if they could be remade or exchanged for a different cocktail. We were told that all alcohol sales are final. While I understand restaurants have policies, I was surprised there wasn't any willingness to accommodate us, especially since we had barely touched the drinks and simply wanted a different cocktail. As for the food, the fried wings lacked seasoning, and the rib tips were rubbery and didn't have much flavor. Being from Texas, I enjoy BBQ where the meat stands on its own, so I asked for the BBQ sauce on the side. Unfortunately, even with the sauce, the rib tips didn't have the quality or flavor I was expecting. The staff was polite, but the food quality, drink experience, and overall execution didn't live up to the reputation I was hoping for. I hope management takes this feedback as an opportunity to improve because the restaurant has potential.
