This is a great mom-and-pop hardware store that's been in the neighborhood for decades. They have pretty much everything you need in a hardware store; except for a Garden Center and Lumber. It's amazing how large their inventory is considering it's not that big of a store. The service has always been super friendly and helpful; in my experiences. I've been shopping here for many years. I've shopped at Koontz for decades and always loved this hardware store; it has been a lifesaver a few times. The staff working the aisles always ask if they can help, usually have the best suggestions and steer me towards the right products. Today I just wanted to buy a sheet of sandpaper that was marked as $1.79 and it rang up for $2.50 at the register, so I told the cashier wearing a surgical mask that's it's marked $1.79 on the aisle and she says "I'm just going by what the bar code reads". So I went back and checked, told her again that it was marked $1.79 so she marched back with me and I apologized to her that she had to walk back, but it was indeed only $1.79 ...she goes "well, you must be desperate!" and I said "Why am I desperate? For 80 cents?" :D Have to laugh I'm not that cheap or desperate, but just like to pay what the price is marked on the item out of principle. A note: Under California Business and Professions Code Section 12024.2, it is illegal for a business to charge a price greater than what is advertised, marked on a shelf tag, or posted on the commodity itself. read more

This hardware store gets 5 stars from me for their customer service, easy access to parking and again customer service. I ordered a Milwaukee chop-saw and had it delivered here for pickup and the people working were very nice and helpful. I looked around the store enough to tell myself I want to go back when I have more time to look around. They have their own parking so no need to look for street parking because finding parking in West Hollywood is terrible. The hardware store held my delivery for 4 days as I did not have time to pickup same day and they gave me no problem or attitude. I did ask for something they didn't have and they made a couple of suggestions where I might find it. Very helpful. I will be back and I recommend to fellow Yelpers and friends. read more

I love Koontz! It's very 90s and has that amazing customer service that is hard to come by nowadays... Everyone here is SO pleasant and extremely helpful. The stock is great especially if you are in a pickle and need something ASAP. I always come here for hardware and lightbulbs. The value is great and honestly for a family owned business I am more than happy to shop here. Everything is affordable and that small premium helps the family that runs it. Side note, they are not affiliated with Ace Handwear anymore so they do not accept their vouchers (gift cards etc). read more

I feel blessed to now live much of the time only half a mile from this store. Amazingly I realized on my third visit that this incredible but little store is part of the Ace Hardware group. It takes me back about 60 years ago when I worked on Saturdays at age 15 for pocket money in England. They have EVERYTHING and enough staff to help you find whatever it is that you want or need. I love it!!! Yesterday for the princely sum of $14 I managed to get solutions to three minor repair issues. A true bargain and value for money. FIREFIGHTER DOES NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE!! Return policy: I had my credit card bill that showed their transaction as well as a photo of the receipt on my phone to make a $50 return -not for cash but to put it back to my credit card. The OLD LADY at the cash register REFUSED and DEMANDED the paper receipt. I demanded to spaek to a manager - some foreiginer ALSO REFUSED. I told them to Fv(K OFF! and i WILL NEVER return to this store regardless of how many years they've been around! this is a rediculous policy-TWO pieces of PROOF of PURCHASE and they wouldn't honor a return credit to my credit card. when asked to leave for my language I told them I have a 1A RIght and only left after several more chioce words to them like "fat fv(k" "mojado"/wetbak". Koontz has been in business since 1938 and it is an awesome store. It's very well stocked and has pretty much everything you need for most handyman projects. The associates are friendly and helpful most of the time. Sometimes it can be hard to get help in the key department though which is up two steps from everything else. It typically has long lines and only one person behind the desk working on keys and no one in the aisles to help with the other items in that section which can be frustrating when you can't find what you are looking for and don't need a key. Prices can be higher here than other home improvement places on some items but not everything. Aisles are pretty tight throughout the store but I don't mind because they are so well stocked and they carry excellent products. Small parking lot attached to the building. read more

Good spot. I came in because I work nearby and had an hour to kill. Just wanted to see what all the hype is about guys window shopping in hardware stores. I went thru the aisles here and they have a decent amount of gift type stuff which is interesting. But mostly hardware. Duh. Not a huge selection but enough. Also plenty of kitchen appliances and tools. I ended up with measuring tape, shoe glue (had no clue this existed - it worked), and the classic BEWARE OF DOG sign I've been meaning to buy. Not expensive in the slightest, especially for this prime real estate area. Good deal and an offbeat way to kill time on this street without getting drunk. read more

Thank you to the team for returning my items correctly at first one of your employees which I never met before came at me totally wrong but like I said, I had asked for a manager to get the job done. I've come there many times to purchase many things I'm not a person that returns things but when the manufacturer that you guys buy products from send you a bad item, if you go back to the manufacturer, not left into the customers hands to deal with the manufacture that you purchase your inventory from Your employees need to be coordinated and understand that the customer is right and you guys have policies that you can deal with on your own terms without giving the customer a hard time but the ladies in front were very sweet. Like I said it's only 35 bucks not a big deal, but the process was a little difficult to return. Hopefully in the future I never have this issue again overall they're nice people, but some people are old school and don't know. I understand you can't be that way. I would've did five stars for them, but the employee needs a training needs to be retrained and not talk to customers down and speak down to them. The big Spanish guy that handles the plumbing and gas very rude and very unprofessional did not even introduce herself before speaking to me treating me like I was a homeless guy not good for business that guy needs to be retrained read more

It is really, really hard to find a good hardware store in Los Angeles. These people actually help you and know what they're talking about. They even have convenient parking right next to the store. However the only downside is that they're not open very late. The pricing is also competitive with whatever you'd find elsewhere. Pretty tough to find in this day and age. read more

Every area of town needs a Koontz or a Busy Bee (Santa Monica) where they are full service hardware store, generally able to have whatever hardware need I might have as well as some great ideas for challenging problems at the home and apartment. Koontz Hardware has been in business for over 62yrs. The locksmith and staff are helpful, they were able to duplicate a rare vintage key for me. It's a few doors down from Bottega Louie. I usually find metered parking out front, but there is parking at the back. Like most smaller shops, the prices are a tad higher than bigger stores, but it's worth for the convenience. This business is considered essential and has been open during the pandemic and the staff wear face masks. I like supporting local small businesses like this hardware shop and would like for it to continue operating for years. Recommend. read more

Whether it's something I need personally for my apartment or something my landlady needs for our building (as I help her out), I don't even have to know what I'm looking for and I'll find it at Koontz. Moth problem? Here's a sticky trap. Squirrel problem? Here's a non-toxic pepper spray that's safe for cats. Plugged drain? Here's what to do. It's a small hardware store, but don't be fooled by its size--they have everything! It is absolutely PACKED to the ceiling and I've never seen them sold out of anything. I love their key duplication services in the back and always have a great time chatting with the guys who work back there. I've never had a hard time finding someone knowledgeable to help me. It's always fully staffed and employees know the store from top to bottom. Most recently I came in looking for a new shower head but having no idea what to look for. A staff member pointed me in the right direction and explained the differences between the types of products they sold--and I'm so happy with what I got! Always plenty of free parking in the back. They've adjusted the flow of customers for Covid, dedicating one door for entry (marked by arrows taped to the floor) and the other door for exit. It's a little cramped in there and doesn't have great ventilation, but they've been keeping the front doors open so it hasn't felt uncomfortable or unsafe in there. Koontz is one of the two best hardware stores in LA, based on customer service and knowledgeable employees. They don't have lumber or the giant selection that places like Anawalt and Home Depot have, but the help is invaluable. Definitely worth visiting while you're figuring out your project. read more
