I'm beyond furious, and I'll never trust a Tuffy again after this infuriating ordeal. On June 25, 2025, I had my Escalade's P0332 code fixed at a Tuffy in Glendale Heights, IL, with new knock sensors and a wiring harness using Genuine GM parts. Everything seemed fine until June 27, when, 600 miles into a 1,000-mile road trip to Florida, the P0332 code returned. I tried clearing it, but it kept coming back. On June 28, I brought the truck to this Mary Esther Tuffy and explained that it takes three drive cycles at operating temperature for the code to reappear. They cleared it, claimed they found no issue, and sent me on my way. I had to push them to drive it more, only to discover at closing that they'd cleared a pending code--felt like a deliberate attempt to hide the problem. Within 15-18 miles, the code was back. On June 29, I was at their door at 9 AM. They finally checked and found a bad rear knock sensor but refused to cover it under Tuffy's 12,000-mile/12-month warranty, claiming the Illinois shop was a franchise. This was just three days and under 1,200 miles since the original repair! The manager, John, was completely unhelpful, forcing me to leave the truck to deal with the warranty company. On June 30, I called the warranty company with John, and they agreed to cover the repair, but John insisted I pay upfront because he couldn't send paperwork otherwise. Facing a prepaid parasailing trip with my kids, I paid to get my truck back. Three drive cycles later, a new P0327 code appeared for the front knock sensor. Their mechanic had removed it to "compare" to the bad one and didn't tighten it properly because they lacked a 3/8 torque wrench! John's excuse? He didn't give it "enough oomphs." I told him the torque spec is 15 ft-lbs, and he just shrugged. Later that day, the P0332 code returned. I called their district manager, James Price, who smugly said it wasn't his problem and told me to take it back to Illinois--1,000 miles away--or go to a Mavis/NTB shop. On July 1, I returned, waited over an hour with no updates, and dealt with a mechanic who admitted he didn't know how to test the knock sensor and refused my offer to help. They "fixed" it, but by noon, P0332 was back. Tuffy Corporate promised a callback but never followed through. On July 2, a corporate rep, John, said no Tuffy would touch my truck, claimed they don't do this work, and hung up when I called out their nonsense. I'm stranded, worried about damaging my Escalade driving home. This shop's shoddy repairs, deceptive tactics, and refusal to take responsibility cost me time, money, and our entire vacation. Mohr's Auto in Santa Rosa Beach is fixing what Tuffy couldn't. Avoid this Tuffy at all costs--they're an embarrassment to the brand.

The service manager there is Chris Cheeseman. Though I appreciated Richard Jr's love for the 2015 Toyota Prius, I did not appreciate the terrible recommendation to have his dad's shop look at it. Chris called me today to talk to me about my review of Starr's and this is my response: ​Mr. Cheeseman, ​Please be advised that we will not be returning our vehicle to Starr's Auto Repair in Navarre. ​We have authorized and paid for over $2,000 in repairs, yet the initial issues persist. This financial commitment does not account for the additional expenses incurred, including towing from the Midbay Bridge area (Destin/Niceville) and the cost of a rental vehicle during the time your shop was 'replacing' the electric water pump. ​We cannot continue to invest further time and capital into repairs that do not resolve the problem, especially given the significant travel inconvenience (working in Destin and living in North Crestview). We require a resolution that honors our investment and rectifies the persistent mechanical failures. If Richard Jr. could have actually fixed my vehicle at Tuffy since he knows all about the car, that would have been nice. Instead, he told me his dad's shop was more than capable and that is nowhere near the case.

Epic failure from vehicle service to actual service. Took it to them twice and they charged me out the yinyang and totally ineptly failed to fix the problem and refused to take responsibility for it. We only used this shop in desperation due to no other scheduling option and paid the ultimate price when finally the dealership told us about the incompetence and failure that led to the destruction of our van with only 75K miles on it.
