Still angry this shop failed twice to fix my vehicle and ultimately led to it being totaled from a cracked engine block due to their negligence. They actively refused to take any responsibility for it and were rude and combative after they destroyed our van. AWFUL; DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE. Epic failure from vehicle service to actual service. Took it to them twice and they charged me out the yinyang and totally ineptly failed to fix the problem and refused to take responsibility for it. We only used this shop in desperation due to no other scheduling option and paid the ultimate price when finally the dealership told us about the incompetence and failure that led to the destruction of our van with only 75K miles on it. Our Honda Odyssey started running rough with difficulty accelerating while we were down from MI. Our hometown NAPA auto care mechanic tells us to always find and go to a NAPA Auto Care facility so I was pleased to locate Holmes Auto Repair. They were booked solid but graciously agreed to work me in. I was able to drive the van there but Cammie (member of their friendly front counter staff) also assured me they could come tow me in if I needed roadside assistance. I got there, checked in with Cammie, and settled into their very hospitable waiting area. In three hours, they had my van fixed (bad ignition coil) and I was back on the road with a smooth-running vehicle. Definitely a top-notch experience. These guys are awesome! I was in Ft. Walton for a few days and had a brake issue. Needed a shop to see if it was anything major. They got me in the very next day. Told me was a warped rotor and i could safely drive the car back to Illinois where i already had purchased the parts to redo my brakes but hadn't found the time. I have brought my car in twice in the past year. The first time I couldn't get my car to start and they towed my car to the store. They replaced the starter and did not try to sell me things I didn't need. The lady in the office was very kind and helpful. Everyone was professional and courteous. The second time my fiance brought my car and they actually gave him a gift certificate to get lunch at a sandwich place down the street since it was going to take them several hours and he had no way to get home. I had a estimate from another ( hi mark) shop in town to install my rear tail light in my mini, $25.00. This shop ( Holmes) installed a new motor for my convertible. $2400.00 ouch.. but seriously talk about overcharged! Steve's bill was $93.46! For putting in a tail light that I purchased from eBay motors. My mistake as I should have asked but in all and all I am dissappointed. Is this your hourly rate.? So much for being fair. read more

These guys are the BEST! Great service, very polite and personable! Courteous and kind. Its so hard to find an honest mechanic, but we did indeed. They may not be the cheapest in town, but the price is fair and you cannot beat the servcie and the workmanship. We brought our vehicle back because some issues developed. They did the repair at no charge and said "it's covered under our warranty." Wow! Trust is something difficult to develop, we definitely trust these guys! read more

They diagnosed problems when others could not. They are reasonable and I am never afraid that they will fix something that does not need fixed or break something so that they can fix it. I called the local GM dealer to get my brake lines replaced and THEY recommended Holmes. These folks fixed the car at a fair price and sent me a thank you note. When I got back I took the Suburban to my mechanic and he said the job done was first class. Here is the kicker.... I took my F-150 to them with a trouble light; I had already read it, it was missing on #6 cylinder. Either coil or plug, most likely, on #6 cylinder. Since the plugs on that model truck are problematic, I had them Holmes perform the work. They diagnosed it as the coil and replaced. The problem that I had was the price: $182 to tell if it was the plug or coil and replace the coil, then clear the code and test drive. (maybe 30 min max). So they charge around $400 / hour to work on your car? Then they charged me $97 for a less than $5.00 coil (according to NAPA, their parts source). I'm OK with some mark up on parts (25 to 75%) I consider 2000% markup to be thievery. So, although they are competent in performing the work, expect to be charged the most that they can get away with on labor. Expect to be raped on their parts charge markup. I also had a wheel bearing replaced. The $111 labor on that is more believable. The $150 parts charge for a wheel bearing and lock nut was a markup of around 110% (according to NAPA), though not 2000% this time. In short, that will be the last dime that Holmes Auto gets from me. If you must use them, buy the parts yourself and let them install. Read the computer code and clear and give them the code information so they don't charge you an extra $150 or so to read the clear the code. They were kind and helpful and offered up a solution when no one else did (Napa auto parts was also helpful). I felt comfortable asking questions and never felt belittled or rushed like you do in some places. I think we finally found a place to take our cars! read more
