We hired "DJ Yogz" to DJ our wedding in July. My now husband bartered with him over the price, because we felt he was high (especially in comparison with other DJs in the area, plus we had been talking with other people in the DJ business, my brother-in-law for example and other people who had recently been married). DJ Yogi agreed to have one of his other DJs, "DJ Krupz" do it, and he would just show up to supervise and help out if needed, and that would bring the cost down. Once we got the contract in order, DJ Yogi (the only DJ we spoke with from Yogi's group), he seemed very organized. He hounded me for a song list (for every part of the evening), which, was good, I needed to get it done. So, I sent him the final final list. On our wedding day, we walk in, everything seems smooth and we go to cut our cake, and the song we picked doesn't get played, the DJ continues with the previous song... not a huge deal, and we barely, sort of, noticed. We sit down, and the DJ table is straight across the ballroom from us. We see a banner on the DJ table. Now, we had told Yogi that we absolutely did not want a banner up. We were paying him to be there, not advertise. If someone asked for a business card, that was one thing, and we wouldn't mind that, but no way should there be a tacky DJ banner, and he said that was fine. Ha. So, our MC, who is my husband's uncle, discreetly went over and told him to take it down, it had already been discussed that that was a no no. The DJ obliged, and I don't think anyone really noticed, which was good. Well, not only had that banner been up, but, before it came down, my husband realized the name on the banner was not even the name of either DJ we were supposed to have. WTF? We received NO calls saying there was any issue, why our DJs didn't show, what was happening. So, at this point, you just run with it. So, we had selected, per Yogi's suggestion, to have a song that my husband and I invited everyone to come onto the dance floor to get rolling for the evening. The DJ started it, and CUT IT SHORT AND PLAYED SOME SONG THAT HE WANTED TO. We were not happy, but determined to have a good time. I will say, our crazy Indian wedding had a lot of party people, so the dancing ensued for the rest of the night. But, our list of "Absolutely Do Play" songs went ignored. The DJ completely skipped all of it. And when my husband asked for "some" 70's funk songs, we had about 13 in a row when we both yelled "ENOUGH already" and got someone to go request anything else. Then, for the last song of the night, the DJ decided "Promiscuous Girl" was a good call, and my new sister-in-law went up and was like "absolutely no way is that their last song tonight"... and I think we ended up with YMCA. At the end of the night when my dad went to pay the DJ the remaining balance, it was a bank check made out to Yogi. The DJ tried to get my dad to sign the check over to him. No way. My dad is no fool. He was like, "Look, my contract is with Yogi, this is what we agreed on. It's up to him how he pays you". So angry. My husband later emailed Yogi to find out what the heck happened, and who was this guy that showed up and did a semi-decent, yet bungled job at our wedding. To this day, 5 months later, we have gotten NO response. Horrible business. So bad. I've already had to tell someone not to use him, because you don't even know that he'll show up, when I was asked if I could recommend our DJ. I couldn't do it. **EDIT 12.14.2007** As I was just discussing this review with my husband, I realized one other thing. The DJ that did show up, tried to tell my father that he was DJ Krupz, when the banner he had up did not have that name on it,it said "DJ T", and he already had introduced himself to my husband by that name on the banner. I just find this really really bad. Just thought I should add that. My husband feels it was a "bait and switch" because of agreeing to the lower price, and promising he himself would be there to supervise the event.** read more

My fiance and I recently had DJ Yogi lend his musical expertise to our engagement party and were more than thrilled with the results. DJ Yogi came highly recommended via two different sources, my cousins and an Indian party-planning and decor service and he didn't disappoint. DJ Yogi met with us a few weeks before the event and we outlined a "plan" for the party, music we wanted played, and strategies to encourage guests to start the fun. He even suggested other vendors we could use to liven up the party and provide additional entertainment! Given that the engagement party followed a religious ceremony and would be attended by guests of all races, religions, cultures, ethnicities, and dancing abilities, we needed a DJ that could sense the mood of the particular events occurring and the guests and play music accordingly. Yogi was incredibly responsive to our requests both in the prior meeting and in the days leading up to the event. There were essentially three different venues for the initial social hour, religious ceremony, and dinner / dance, which Yogi accomodated without a hitch. He himself presided over the entire event and even showed up several hours early to ensure that all the setups were in place. He played exactly the music we requested, followed our super-tight schedule to the tee, and even helped to smooth over some potential disasters when our evening entertainment (a vendor NOT recommended by DJ Yogi) disappeared! In fact, because of his expertise in "atmosphere management", the guests had no idea that anything was amiss! In the end, guests universally commented that they had a great time and the busy dance floor was certainly a testament. My daughter got married on Saturday 6/11 at the Hilton Boston in Woburn and Yogi from Boston Sound and Light did the up lighting for the wedding and it was amazing !!!! He had the lighting perfect, just the way my daughter had envisioned, so beautiful !! Yogi and his crew did an amazing job at our wedding. From our first meeting with him to the last song DJ Yogz was fun, professional, flexible, and organized. The challenge of our Indian wedding was that half our guests were Indian and half our guests were American, and we had a wide spectrum of ages. Therefore, we needed a DJ that was very familiar with old and new school Indian and American songs (ranged from Michael Jackson to Bel Biv Devoe to Timbaland), and someone that could gauge the audience and adjust on the fly. He also played music for our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and set lighting for our reception. DJ Yogi definitley exceeded our expectations--and our guests absolutely loved him. He kept the dance floor packed! More details below: Planning: In my opinion the DJ is the most important part of a wedding, so it was very important to me to have someone responsive and reasonable. We never had a communication problem, and he always seemed to be "on top" of our wedding from the moment we got him on contract. He has some great spreadsheets that you can use to sequence your event. After you do the spreadsheet he will sit down with you and give you some great feedback. However, he was cool if we didn't want to do something. We were so impressed with him during planning that we got him on contract to do our lighting. Turned out spectacular! Last Minute Stuff: of course with any wedding, especially Indian, things come up at the last minute. Here is just a list of stuff DJ Yogi did a 48 hours or less before the wedding: 1. Coordinated with photographer to get our engagement, wedding, formal, and getting ready pics on a projector during the reception. 2. Got two of my best men's video speech presentation set up for the reception. 3. Our priest didn't communicate well with us throughout the planning process, so everything was confusing right before the start of the ceremony. DJ Yogz did some behind the scenes coordination with wedding party, event coordinator, and priest to make sure everything flowed/made sense. He kind of filled in the holes. Went off without a hitch. 4. Took a bunch of crap from my crazy grandma :) She gave him a hard time, but DJ Yogi was very professional. And there is probably 100 other things that I don't even know or remember that he did for us. He really cares alot about his reputation and the event. We initially contacted DJ Yogz because we were looking for somebody who would be familiar with mixed Hindi-Catholic weddings and somebody who would be able to mix Indian music with American music in a balanced way so that all the guests could enjoy themselves. Also, DJ Yogz came highly recommended by Alankar (anothe great vendor if you're looking for a mandap) and the Hilton. In the end, we selected DJ Yogz because my parents loved the fact that he and his wife are Gujarati and could communicate with them and discuss what they wanted and needed for our wedding. The other DJ's we contacted were not responsive and did not instill confidence in us that they could provide us with what we were looking for. We are so happy with the service we received. We are still getting comments on the unbelievable baraat and the lighting during the reception. The ballroom was beautiful! The comment we get most often from our wedding guests is that it was the biggest and best baraat they have ever seen. It was like a giant party! People also loved the decorated SUV with speakers. During the reception everybody enjoyed the choice of music...the dance floor was never empty and we even got to do garba! Even though the hotel was short staffed, and disorganized, DJ Yogz kept everything moving on track and on time. It was also convenient to have the DJ's contract/service be included with the hotel package. It was much easier during the chaos of wedding planning and execution to have everything in one place. We also have to thank him for the little extras - the dholi - the extra uplighting, etc. They were a wonderful surprise and those little extras really made the night. We hired DJ Yogz for our wedding on 8/8/10. From the beginning, he was very organized in our interactions with us. We had meetings to go over ideas, set up an agenda for what exactly we wanted from him and how the night's schedule would go, etc. He also suggested other vendors for us and gave us general wedding advice, which was appreciated. Our wedding was a little more complicated than the average because we are an inter-cultural couple. I'm Indian, and my husband is American. We wanted to make both families happy with the music played at the wedding. DJ Yogz delivered quite well on this end. The classical music for the ceremony was well timed and executed well. I can't speak for the cocktail hour because I wasn't there, but guests said that they enjoyed whatever Indo-Western fusion music he played. The reception was the highlight of the night, though. Dinner consisted of alternating western and Indian oldies, which (surprisingly) worked a lot better than we thought it would, and the dance was AMAZING. He pretty much played all of our requested songs and the ones he added on his own kept folks on the dance floor all evening. Many guests commented to us on how awesome our DJ was at keeping people on the floor. I have friends who had never danced in their entire lives and they danced at this wedding. On some of the Indian songs, where American's wouldn't really know how to dance to them, Yogi would actually yell out some instructions from his emcee position so everyone could learn and participate accordingly. It was good times for all! He was also very engaged with us (bride and groom) during the reception, looking for physical cues about timing (when to do the bouquet toss) and whether we liked the songs being played at any given time or not. I liked that he was constantly monitoring our reactions, because that way, we were always happy with how things were going down. All in all, even though DJ Yogz is indeed a bit more expensive than other Indian DJ's, he was worth every penny. Our guests had a fantastic time, we were thrilled. He also had provided uplighting for our reception, which looked fabulous. We're so happy with this choice. One of our American friends even enjoyed the night so much, he walked up to me and told me, "When I get married, I totally want to have an Indian wedding." Sure sign of a good time! read more

Last summer my husband and I inquired with Yogi about his lighting through Boston Sound and Light for our wedding. He came highly recommended by other vendors for DJing services too, but after reading some of the reviews on yelp, we were unsure if we wanted to hire him as a DJ. After a couple of meetings, we felt more comfortable with his approach for both DJing and the uplighting. We were extremely happy with the way Yogi executed the event. As with any DJ, you have to provide them a playlist. Being Indian, I can totally understand that Indian music is vast, but he was trying extremely hard to liven the crowd, and the crowd responded. We were dancing until 1am and I ended up paying extra to the hotel. I'm a stickler for giving anybody a perfect mark, but Yogi definitely met, if not exceeded our expectation. read more

We went with Yogi based on our decorator and photographer recommendations and we ended being very happy with the services. Yogi was able to set up a sound station for the groom's party/procession at short notice in the hotel lobby and the music selection was very good and got everyone moving and shaking. The reception mixes were really good and his MC skills were very good and got the party going. Overall we think his skills were top notch and many in the reception commented positively. With all positives there are some cons - we actually planned the entire event via email and phone. To most this could be a huge no-no and to be honest there were some butterflies for us too. Face time can be a huge plus in terms of helping people gain confidence. But like we said above, the event was a smash hit and we would highly recommend Yogi to anyone. read more

I am SO happy that I hired BSL and DJ Yogz for my second wedding party which was actually June 29, 2014. My guests had so much fun with them getting the party started. Everything turned out even more amazing than I imagined, and even while my wedding wasn't Indian, they brought the Indian drummer!!! The lunch music was so perfect, relaxing, loved all the transitions, our first dance which was one of THE highlights of the day, the toasts. They were also flexible to let one of our friends plug in and do an impromptu tango performance for all of us. One of my husband and my favorite moments was seeing everyone under the tent, not kept to themselves, but in groups, all across the tables, mingling, meeting, and getting to know each other or catch up, and the music matched up perfectly and created that amazing atmosphere. That is probably the best that we could ever imagine for our guests. We envisioned that people would emerge from our wedding with even more friends and deeper friendships, while having lots of fun. We can't thank BSL enough for being a part of this magical night. In addition, I used to be a wedding photographer myself and have seen BSL provide the entertainment for many of my clients. My husband and I hired DJ Yogi to be the DJ at our wedding in Boston this April. He was awesome. For the welcome reception the night before the wedding, he got everyone on the dance floor and played a great mix of music. For the wedding reception, he also varied the music throughout the night depending on what my guests wanted. At one point, he even started rapping on the dance floor with one of our friends. We had DJ Yogz for our sangeet night. He was very attentive and professional prior to the event. However his performance that night was pretty mediocre. He remixes way too much and plays only about 30 seconds of each song. Worst of all he does not play requests - absolutely ridiculous. I was the bride and he didn't even play the song I requested. He cut people in line at the bar telling them he was the dj and had to get back to his post asap. Oh and he projects this tacky sign on to the wall promoting Boston Sound and Lights. Nobody at my party was particularly impressed with him. I'm glad he wasn't there at my wedding - we all loved the dj that night. read more

Dj Yogz did an AMAZING job everyone had a great time. I had my wedding in Newport, RI. He also picked me up when i fell which was pretty funny by the way. He did a great job organising which Rebecca from Castle Hill and eveyrone else that you worked with on my wedding. I got tons of compliments on the music which was played during the ceremony, generally there is no music being played during the ceremony at Guyanese indian weddings and everyone though it was so refreshing and loved loved the songs that he and his team chose. All my guests felt that it added to the mood of our of ceremony which made it felt a bit more intimate. Cocktail hour was fabulous as well. And of course we all enjoyed on the reception is was GREAT !!!! The music was wonderful which kept me and all of my guests on the dance floor. Also i thought it was great that he tried to get all my guests on the dance floor and he was on the dancefloor as well making sure that all my guests knew how to dance to indian and caribbean music. My guests kept asking if we chose a playlists and i had said that Dj Yogz chose eveything they were very impressed with him and his teams' selection of songs.
