Our experience with Homeless Animals Rescue Team was extremely disappointing. We were interested in…read moreadopting a blind cat named Melon after meeting her at a PetSmart event. The rescue has no physical location and no working phone number, so all communication was limited to email. The adoption application was excessively long and invasive. Despite promptly providing vet records after an initial denial, our application continued to be dismissed without meaningful discussion. Kim, the point of contact, refused phone communication and was curt and dismissive in her responses. We were encouraged to attend an in-person adoption event, where we answered extensive questions and explained that we had a dedicated room and accommodations for Melon. Even then, Kim remained hesitant. We later learned Melon has been in foster care for 18 months, which raises serious concerns about this rescue's adoption practices. Kim made a condescending remark suggesting Melon's foster would have "more to say after we left," which was unprofessional and inappropriate. We were then asked to foster Melon temporarily, agreed, and have since heard nothing back. Based on this experience--and after reading similar complaints on Yelp--I will be contacting the PetSmart in Sterling regarding this rescue's conduct. This appears to be a pattern, and it is unacceptable. I would not recommend this organization to anyone looking to adopt.

I wish that I could afford the show quality Koi that you see in Japan but those little high maintenance living ordainments are very very expensive costing some times 7 or 8 thousand dollars for just one fish about 12 to 18 inches long. Now I don't mind spending a few hundred on 5 or 6 of the little fellows but budgets are tighter now than ever. Enter Joe Stanton III. He breeds and raises his Koi for sell through select selling to certain customers. In other words if you are a "fish killer" chances are he won't want to sell to you anything until he schools you in the proper set up and care of a Koi pond. He has plenty experience with both fresh water and outdoor pound fish as well as some salt water fish. He also builds ponds and provide cleaning and care to existing ponds. However he only sells well bred Koi and Gold fish and at decent prices at that. His selection changes from the spring of the year through the summer so if you are interested in a particular breed call ahead first before making that long trek out near Annapolis. He has some of the most healthy fish that I have seen anywhere and he keeps his ponds immaculate. Lots of pride goes into what he does and he really loves those fish. I don't blame him I'm the same. They are really well cared after fish so you see why he doesn't like to sell to "fish killers" and rest assure that you are receiving high quality fish for great prices. But shhhhh don't tell him that he doesn't charge enough cause it might give him the idea to raise his prices and I hate to see those go through the roof. The little teeny tiny Koi start at around $3 bucks, but they will grow in no time especially if you keep feeding them Joe's Koi food "best in Maryland". I try to get out there twice a year to buy supplies, new fish (yeah sometimes causalities must be expected) Koi food in huge bulk quantities, Oh he has the best fish food around, He mixes it up from different sources. My Koi goes crazy and will do back flips for this stuff over the regular Tetra pond sticks. Yeah I did taste it to see what all the hype was about and hey! That stuff is pretty good. ummm. So if you are not a "fish killer" and Joe likes you once he ask you alot about your knowledge of fish and out door ponds he just might sell you a few dozen of the little guys. By appointment only!

Years ago we tried to adopt a cockatiel who hadn't interacted with people much ... Birds who don't have interaction become wild and don't make good pets. Birds from this breeder make wonderful pets.
