I technically dined in Roja Lounge, Dlena's speakeasy-style mezcal cave underneath the main restaurant. But in addition to a special bar bites menu, you can get the entire Dlena menu down there! It was surprisingly easy to get a table at 6:30PM on a Wednesday night, but my friend and I walked into plenty of open seats and a band setting up. The vibe and atmosphere are top-notch, with the "cave" atmosphere being dark, cozy and chic, rather that claustrophobic. I ended up sharing the empanadas and ordering for myself the mushroom tacos. The tacos were amazing! Even as a non-vegetarian, I have a soft spot for mushroom tacos, and these were delicious--in addition to being one of the more economical choices on the menu. I also really enjoyed the dessert I ordered, which I think was a cheesecake. As for the drinks--what we're all here for--they were also stellar. I ordered a Spiked Flower first (essentially, their take on a spicy margarita), which was amazing, and then tried the Passionfruit Fizz, which was also amazing. They ended up making an extra La Luna by accident and gave it to our table. I'm not really a mezcal person (I know, I know--I was at a mezcal lounge) but the drink was beautiful, with its black charcoal color and spherical ice cube and pretty good. To drink I tried the Mercado margarita and then later had the mango margarita. Both were tasty but the Mercado was my favorite. Guacamole de Bonito - soo yummy! I was going to go for the regular guac but decided to try this and the tuna tartare was a nice addition. I'd order this again. Ceviche - this was a hit! Would also order it again. Corn empanadas - yummy... if you aren't feeling empanadas I'd say order the regular corn Shrimp Tacos - though I was really craving a corn tortilla they come in jicama wraps, they were really good. There margaritas were great and were definitely worth the price given its amount of tequila, but I was expecting more from the food. My entree was the steak with potatoes and shishito peppers, the steak was meant to be medium well but i received it as medium rare which i did not eat because it was too pink for my liking. The appetizers were fairly good, we had the guacamole and crab cake tostadas which i would recommend. I was really excited to visit dLena in hopes to chill in their lounge area but someone reserved the space for a private event. I sat in the bar area which was really nice. The ambiance of the restaurant is romantic. The lights were a little too dark and we had to use our flashlight to read the menu. We didn't spend too much time here because some chick at the bar kept coughing to the point where I didn't even want to order a meal. The queso was good. It came with some type of meat mixed in and served with mini flour tortillas. My old fashion wasn't what I had expected. I definitely had better. My rating is based of the service and atmosphere. If I had to pick my favorites-- the crab guacamole (crab was seasoned beautifully and exploded with flavor), the corn empanadas (seriously perfect, a must order!), and the caramel crepe cake. The short rib tacos were good but I think I'll try something else next time. If you like coffee and booze you'd love the carajillo creme brulee! My husband and I were looking forward to celebrating our anniversary here, but was so disappointed that they shut down the restaurant for a few days due to COVID concerns, but it was great on them to keep safety first. We were able to rebook our resy and went this past weekend. Oh my goodness, it was worth the wait. We started off with some drinks, the mango margarita and the Mexican old-fashioned. My mango marg was one of the best I've ever had. It was like I was sipping on a mango. The fruit really shined through. His old-fashioned was served in a smoky decanter and poured at the table. Both drinks were excellent. We tried the queso fundido (beef, not chorizo) and we wanted the corn empanadas, but they weren't available, so we got the wagyu beef empanadas instead. The queso came with delicious blue corn tortillas and while it was a bit salty, absolutely delicious. We wanted to know what kind of cheese it was, but our server wasn't sure. The empanadas were heavenly, it was so good that my husband insisted that we get an order to go. We shared the tomahawk as our entree, and we enjoyed the tableside flambe. We also got the potato (it was a baked potato with toppings, honestly my least fav dish of the night) and the broccolini (very smoky flavors). The tomahawk was very tasty and plenty for the both of us. Overall, great service and beautiful ambiance. The price point is high, but well worth it for the food quality and experience. I had such high expectations. My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday dinner and I was so excited to finally try the restaurant as I've been to the mezcal room downstairs a few times. We arrived a few minutes early and despite there being plenty of seating we were seated right by the door in a large, dark booth. Our server came right away and asked for our order which we didn't have because we just sat down. Someone else came around with a small glass of a refreshing nonalcoholic beverage which was quite tasty. We both opted for the passionfruit margarita (mine with Mezcal) and the seafood ceviche to start. The ceviche came out right away at the perfect temperature and taste, my partner loved it. My drink was just ok I didn't taste the mezcal. For entrees we went with the Branzino and baked potato and I ordered the Camrones Al Diablo and the peach & kale salad. I was quite disappointed from this moment forward. Everything came out and was beautifully plated (minus the salad). The prawns had no flavor despite being garnished with peppers the red sauce used as a base have it nothing so after getting the meat out of the drilled shell nothing was happening to activate my tastebuds. The salad wasn't at all what I expected it was a bowl of packed in baby spinach and kale with a few peaches that looked like there were and way too many pomegranate seeds, additionally there were so many stems from the spinach that I gave up on the sloppy salad. I tried my partners Branzino which looked very appetizing only to learn he had the same bland sauce as I did so again, no flavor. Lastly we had the baked potato and honestly it was also terrible it was covered in a mustard based warm sauce and had no salt nor pepper. I couldn't put my finger on the taste until I had a second bite and I said it's giving warm potato salad.... A few minutes later to my disgust I learned about the mustard sauce. Someone came around and asked how the meal was and I said it wasn't that great and asked for salt. I received two portions of salt but no probing around why the food wasn't that great. It was nice that I received a churro plate for dessert. I am so sad that this experience wasn't what I hoped for and for the price point it should have been top tier. The flavors? Amazing. The patio? Perfection. This review? Totally glowing, since we had a great time. I'm not even sure where to start. We didn't get their classic brunch everyone loves, but our dinner of appetizers was light and flavorful. We got seated immediately and ordered some sweet mango margaritas to start. For food, the Maryland crab guacamole had lots of crab and was super delicious, and came with super crispy bread in lieu of chips. The burrata salad had refreshing grilled watermelon, salty and creamy burrata, and flavorful heirloom tomatoes. To top it all off, the cheesecake was super rich and paired nicely with ice cream on top. The presentations were beautiful, and we got to eat it all from their sunny, covered patio area. There was a mix up with our reservations so we weren't able to dine in the main room but luckily were able to score a table in their lounge area which has a nice cozy speakeasy vibe to it. I wasn't there during happy hour but heard they've got great deals and also have live entertainment on certain nights, how fun! Food was good here, I highly suggest getting the pork belly as an app! Pork belly - well flavored, not overly sweet and the pickled veggies went well with it. Mushroom tostados - great for vegetarians, had great flavor. Guacamole de bonito - really like the tartare in the guac, it was fresh and delicious! The chips were different but good. Wish there were more chips though. Corn empanadas - I love corn on the cob and would niemally not order a corn empanada but it loaded with sweet corn and surprisingly delicious! Enchiladas - average, mild flavor. Good but I felt like it needed some oomph, maybe some heat. Wagyu beef - this dish came out early as we were in the middle of enjoying our apps. We asked for it to come out with the rest of the entrees, especially since some of us hadn't even put in our entree orders yet. Disappointed that the restaurant brought it out and reheated it instead of making it fresh, so it came out over cooked. It was ok, but think it would have been better if it was cooked right. The tortillas and sides came out afterwards so ended up just eating the wagyu as is. Chicken - Very tender, good flavor but broccolini was tough. Crème brûlée - nice to see it lit on fire, however, it wasn't as crunchy on top as I'd like and the texture was more like a mousse. Flavor was good but I wouldn't really consider this a true crème brûlée. Overall a great dining experience, prices are a little higher but food was good and the restaurant has great ambiance. This is specific for diners with gluten allergies, or who care how food allergies are handled. We've come here several times over the years, but were incredibly disappointed in how the meal was handled -- on our anniversary no less. The culprit was a sorbet with cookie crumbs hidden on the bottom, despite the waiter being fully informed on the allergy and the menu stating the item was gluten free. Not only did the waiter casually tell us he'd forgotten about the allergy, on our way out we heard another waitress mocking the significance of the meal / exposure to us ("an anniversary doesn't count if it hasn't been 40 years"). We went because we appreciated their regard for allergies. The way they handled it was incredibly disappointing, particularly the unkind comments at the end. That wasn't necessary. We'll take our future business elsewhere. Lastly, as a PSA to the business - just because someone isn't having an active anaphylactic reaction doesn't mean they aren't allergic. Food allergies manifest in different ways (e.g., nausea and vomiting). I found it bizarre that the server thought that everything was fine and no harm done because I wasn't rushing to the hospital. Overall, weird time. Be careful if you have food allergies. Just because they label the menu doesn't mean it's accurate, and just because they ask about food allergies doesn't mean they'll treat it with care. read more

It was an amazing atmosphere with live music. I believe you can order any of the food from the regular menu but only drinks from their lounge menu. The waygu fajitas were perfect and I had the prime rib with a baked potato, even the potato had a different kind of sauce that dressed it. The food and drinks came out quickly, and we were checked on by two different managers on top of 2 waitresses and a person who is there to be on the lookout to refill drinks to include water. I returned to dLeña for dinner and it was a wonderful experience. The service was lovely- from the hostess to our server. We ordered the following: -Chargrilled oysters (my favorite item, don't miss them) (5/5) -Tomahawk steak for 2 sprinkled with smoked salt (5/5) - Zanahorias Rostizadas (roasted carrots) (4/5) - Grilled avocado (3/5) -Carajillo Crème Brulée (5/5) The steak was perfect and the carrots complimented it well. The creme brûlée made with espresso can't be missed. If you enjoy cocktails, you have a nice selection here. I highly recommend the Negroni and Mexican Old Fashioned. Whenever I check, dLeña never has availability on weekends so I'm not sure how far in advance one is expected to make a reservation. In my understanding, only the top floor has tables available for reservations, whereas the basement area - Roja Lounge - is first come, first serve. The same applies to the upstairs bar. The bar in the Roja Lounge, you can only have drinks at and as told by the "bouncer" downstairs they don't want you ordering food at that bar since it's stand-only. They also have live music in the Roja Lounge and it's pretty tiny, so it fills up quickly. Your best bet to get a seat there is to come right when they open. We came on a Friday evening without a reservation and were told nothing was available for walk-ins. We checked out the bar and the Roja Lounge, but everything was packed. As we were leaving, the hostess said she may have a table available but only for 1.5 hours since it was reserved for later. We grabbed that - it was one of the high top tables by the bar. We tried the following: Mexican Old Fashioned (drink), Casual Encounter (drink), Maryland Crab Guacamole, Camarones a la Diabla, Short Rib Tacos, Papa al Horno and Zanahorias Rostizadas. Both drinks has great presentation with the smokiness; however, I don't think they were well balanced. The alcohol was too overpowering. The Maryland crab guacamole was really good, but not worth the price considering how very little of it you get and our tlayuda was clearly overburnt. I did not like the shrimp at all, to me it tasted like medicine - I'm not sure if it was the sauce or the shrimp itself. The tacos were great; however, I was disappointed that you can't mix the tacos in your order so all 3 tacos are the same - bummer because I wanted to taste their other ones. Our sides were just alright. The fact that you even have to pay extra for a side to come with the shrimp - come on now! For dessert, we had the Spanish Coffee and Carajillo Creme Brûlée. The Spanish coffee is definitely not worth the $12, it was simply whatever. The creme brûlée was delicious, but don't get fooled by the large looking bowl - the layer of dessert was super thin so again felt like a rip-off. We definitely stayed past the 1.5 hours they told us and there were at least 3 empty tables when we were leaving, so not sure why there's never a reservation for the weekend. Overall, a whatever experience especially considering the cost. I wouldn't mind trying to the Roja Lounge solely for the live music, but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more
