It was a great experience - I was a total beginner and didn't know anything about posing for headshots. He made me feel comfortable and brought the best out in me with helpful tips and a seamless experience. The headshots were fantastic and I uploaded them to all of my casting profiles. These headshots have booked me multiple speaking roles in short films (one that went to the LA County Film Festival), a Super Bowl commercial, and multiple major modeling gigs for brands like Pacifico and AT&T. They've gotten me literally hundreds of auditions and callbacks. Over the last 10 years, I got additional headshots done by two other photographers (I couldn't remember Josh's name and hadn't bookmarked it). I still preferred Josh's original headshots over the others and kept using them instead of the newer ones. Finally, it was time for new headshots. I'd aged about a decade since those original ones I was still running. I researched some options on Google and found a portfolio I really loved - Joshua M. Shelton. I booked a session (for a great price) for four looks. When I was sent his address, it started to sound familiar. When I got there and met him again, I realized it was the same photographer from my very first session! I'd found the same guy from my first headshots without even meaning to. Needless to say the second experience was just as great as the first. Joshua really takes his time and makes you feel comfortable. Ken is flexible. The night before the shoot, I asked him to meet me in DTLA (he has a studio…read morenearby) and he proposed a time to meet. After shooting my intended corporate shots, his creative mind kicked in as we walked out to my other proposed location. He explained relevant visual effects of photography as he positioned me with different backgrounds and lighting. He does the standard vertical and horizontal shots, close and far, and afterwards takes shots with very slight angles for an artistic touch. In the end I chose the pictures with his suggested backgrounds and he retouched them within 24 hours. Advice: 1. If you're shooting indoors, let him know beforehand so he can bring his lights. 2. Shoot in shadier areas. He can adjust the lighting. 3. Bring oil sheets to reduce skin shine. Chapstick and eye drops might also help. 4. We shot 250 shots in 1.5 hours in a 2 block radius. Be ready. TL;DR Professional, reliable, creative, quick turnaround I try to keep my ratings balanced at 3 stars, but 5-starring Ken is worth it. Especially given my bad experience with Joshua Shelton from Headshots LA. You can read my review yourself, but the gist is that I spent $100+ and showed up for my booked appointment only to hear from the unresponsive photographer that he was too busy and had another appointment coming in 30 minutes. I sent them a follow up emails, stating this, and they didn't bother to respond. I'm 1/2 a mile away from them and would've rented from them continuously, but not after this mess up. All would've been forgiven had that got back to me, but no such luck. Their loss.
