My FAVORITE karaoke place in the city!! In my opinion, they have the best prices that I have seen so far for the space and selection that they offer. They allow you to BYOB so that is also really nice. That and they do not get mad at you for bringing food in. As long as you bring stuff in a closed bag. There is also a liquor store right next door if you need to buy anything. They have some newer songs as well as some of the classics. We came to Do Re Mi Karaoke planning to stay just a couple of hours, but ended up losing track of time because we were having such a great time. The private rooms are a bit dated, but everything still works well and the karaoke system is easy to use, even for beginners. The staff member was friendly, patient, and helpful throughout our visit. Another big plus is that they allow outside food and drinks, which made the experience even better since we could grab snacks next door at the convenience store. Have been here years ago but came back recently for karaoke after calling other spots in the area that were full. We got a small room for about $30/hour for two hours and seems like the prorate the time you go over so that's nice! The sound system is pretty good and loud. I'd say selection of songs is pretty decent as well and they update new songs too. Can mainly speak to the Korean song selection because that's what we focused on that night but they do have other languages too! They have enhypen's newer songs like no doubt and loose, which was great for us! The song queuing takes a little bit of learning but isn't too hard and you can always ask the staff about it! Honestly one of the best, most affordable karaoke spots in the city! They have a BYO drink and food policy which is great considering there is a liquor store right next door! Pricing varies depending on room size, but very affordable compared to other spots in the city. We did a 5 person room for a little over an hour and it came out to about $13 per person. The rooms are a little crummier than other spots but it's part of the charm. Sometimes you just need to sing your heart out and this spot definitely does the job. This place is in my regular circulation of fun things to do on a weekday evening. I love that you can just walk in on a Monday or Tuesday and not have to make a reservation, and you can just spontaneously have a private karaoke party! It's a don't ask/don't tell in terms of BYOB, so you can Just bring what you want in a bag and they won't question you. The family that owns the business is very friendly and accommodating. Had a blast trying out this karaoke place with my boyfriend! It has been so long since we went to one. We usually go to karaoke boxes in Little Tokyo in LA. But never found a Japantown, SF equivalent till now! They charge by the hour. I think evening prices might be pricier than day prices. We went at around 8pm for an hour and the total came out to about $30. Not bad for an hour of good ol belting session at the top of your lungs in the privacy of your own room! You're able to control the volume of both the bg music and mics. The guy at the counter kindly explained the song queue for us. There is a very adorable dog at the front that seems very friendly! I only heard him bark once when we were already deep into our karaoke session. I think it was from someone else singing a sour note. Hee hee jk it was probably something else. Love that you're able to bring your own food and drinks here! We didn't really take advantage of that since we came after dinner, just had a drink with us. But there's a liqour store right next door which is just perf. Will definitely be going there next time! The place seems like it's been around for a while but I think it was clean and they even gave us socks for our mics! Love this place! Do re mi music studio is a solid place for private room karaoke. There are no frills associated with this place and the rooms are pretty bare bones (sofa and a functioning equipment) but they have a pretty solid selection of music and I like that they don't have a cap on the number of people necessarily (they charge per head). we were able to walk in with a small group of six people on a Saturday night at 9:30 PM and stay until midnight. The place is BYOB which is pretty nice! They should fix the water fountain and have at least water available from the sink. Only bottled soda and water available for purchase. read more

Not wanting the night to end and filled with energy, my friends and I were browsing Yelp for an Asian karaoke place with rooms available for last minute walk-ins on a Friday night. Needless to say, the reviews here did not lead us astray! Do Re Mi Music Studio is located near the Japantown Malls (think about 1 block away) and when we came around 12am, there was plenty of street parking available. We called ahead around 11:30pm to check for availability and thankfully, they had a couple small rooms. We were a party of 4, so this was perfect for us. It was $33/hr and pro-rated after. This place doesn't have the most updated tech, but it has all the basics that will ensure you have a great time belting out and singing as loud as you can with your group. The equipment is easy to use and there's a binder full of their song selection to type into the TV, which was pretty diverse! They have East Asian and English songs - and even songs that were recently released (ie, they had some songs from Taylor Swift's Midnights album). As a group of Swifties, we were very happy with this discovery. What better way to prepare for her concert than to karaoke with Taylor Swift songs?!! You're also able to bring your own food and drinks here. We had dinner and drinks beforehand, so we didn't bring anything, but this was a good-to-know fact for the future. This place definitely had a lot of song options. What I like most is that you can bring your own drink and food into the karaoke room. Reasonable price for the room. I got a two hour time slot in a Friday night day of. It does just have the bare bones like literally the benches, coffee table, and a strobe light but that's all I really need. We ended up having 7 people total they told me I could bring 10 but I don't think we could've fit any more people comfortably. BYOB policy is perfect for a fun cheap night. This place is fairly cheap, $30/hr a room for a small room (up to 4). It was clean and perfectly fine. The song selection was kind of pants, or maybe they just organize it really badly. The binders are ordered alphabetically by song title, which is pretty difficult (as opposed to by artist). Then, the more recent songs (recent as in last ~ 2 years) are organised by month? Or something like that, at the end of the binder. All of this made it super hard to figure out if they had a certain song at all. It seemed like that had a decent collection of songs through the mid 2010's but not a great selection after that. There are also basically no songs in any language other than English and Korean. I was interested in Chinese songs and they only had a single page (maybe 25 songs?). read more

Super accommodating staff. I can tell that they were greatly affected by covid so I'm trying to bring as much business as possible! I used to come here 5+ years ago as the GO to karoake spot, but I think a few more modern spots opened up in the last few years. Nonetheless, the owners were open to BYOB (which is unheard of because they typically make their money on drinks!). This was super awesome so we went to the safeway a couple of blocks away and grabbed some drinks. The machines are a bit outdated and hard to press the buttons accurately, but I didn't mind it so much. We ended our session a bit earlier than expected and they only charged us for half an hour versus the full hour. We could bring our own drinks and pizza to keep the cost reasonable. We acted like absolute buffoons and they were very hospitable to us. Strong no. This place is literally just a room with broken couches, coffee table, old school big butt tv, binder music list, a control panel with korean on it and 2 mics. The binder is sorted by song title and loose sheets at the end for newly added music. For a little over an hour, it was $29. Price goes up after 7pm. Thin walls so people can hear you belting out lyrics outside. Music selection is not that great. Their update list for the month usually features music from a few months back. If you want a song, punch in a number and start. You can queue a song by punching the number and pressing reserve. If you want to skip, you stop the current song and press start. All the music here is basically instrumental. Like not even the original song instrumental. It's just bad... and there's no back vocals, all I hear is myself singing (which I definitely do not prefer). Also, no music video. You are watching random scenary and such... Like why do I wanna rap to a deer licking its fawn?! AWKWARD. It's just such a hassle here. Granted it's cheap but I'd definitely wait for Fillmore Karaoke. Will not be coming back here. read more

I came with two friends on a Friday night and the three of us booked a small room. We had reserved it in advance, but the place didn't seem too busy and we were able to extend our reservation to two hours instead of one. This was my first time going to karaoke so I don't have a good comparison to other places, but overall I thought it was a great experience for a cheap price, $30 / hour / small room for up to 6 people (so even though there were only 3 of us, the price was still reasonable). This particular venue was alcohol-free, which I didn't mind. The rooms had good sound proofing so although you can hear people singing from the hallways, inside a room you can't really hear other rooms. They had a good selection of songs in English as well as other languages; the two of us who speak Chinese found plenty of songs to sing in Chinese, and the third person who was Vietnamese also found a song to sing in Vietnamese. We found most songs we wanted to sing in English. The Asian language songs seemed to be not as recent so we didn't find recent pop songs (at least among the Chinese songs). One warning: there was a dog at the front desk that barked loudly. I didn't mind but it might scare some people. If my friends and I want to do karaoke again, we would definitely consider coming here again! read more

I had heard about "real" karaoke places like this, but was too much of a wimp to lead my friends to one. Thankfully I ended up at 2am with a more savvy buddy who knew this place was perfect for after hours. The staff was super nice and led our inebriated group into a private room. Alcohol (or at least our bottle of vodka) is technically a no-no, but if you discretely BYOB they aren't going to go medieval on you. Oh and you'll want a bunch of friends (5-10) to keep it interesting, it is private after all. Not having to wait 3 hours for "Bossy" to come up? Priceless. Don't know if they carry any of the latest songs, but the room prices seemed OK. There are other options around the area, yet the natives choose to come here. I don't understand that logic. There may be a nostalgic love for Do Re Mi's frequent set of patrons, but for out of towners like myself, it's nothing but a dive karaoke bar that is dying for a makeover. Located in Japantown proper, Do Re Mi was one of the city's first Asian karaoke establishments. Now dated and reeking of cigarettes and who knows what, it's one of the seedy Korean joints that have inspired a whole new crop of places that do what DRM does, but only far better. For those hip to Korean music, you're in luck. Do Re Mi's current collection of Ziller (www.ziller.kr) hits are immortalized in plastic pages stuck together in the form of several song books. English songs for Ziller savvy folks are going to be a minimum, with random hits here and there with more that are tied to previous decades than the current one. The selection is virtually non-existent for anything else. The sound system is pretty consistent with each of the tiny rooms, which is LOUD. Instead of proper sound proofing for every space, it's just drowned out by the volume of the shoddy speakers within each room. There is no mistake here folks, being loud means the staff doesn't have to worry if the machines aren't working. Speaking of the staff, service here is practically null. The only time I've seen giddy attitudes was when they were taking my money and at $20 per hour, it's probably more than anyone ought to pay for the unkept facilities. The men's bathroom is straight foul, soap needs to be replenished and the paper towels always seem to be out. Since they don't serve alcohol, it seems most of the folks coming here attempt to sneak it in. It's not pretty, but in this noraebang world, it's reality. read more

Best way I could describe this place is that it's a "dive karaoke spot" but WE LOVE IT! No frills, no extras. A centrally located space in Japantown that will provide you with a classic karaoke experience. I haven't been to a karaoke spot in San Francisco since moving up to the city. Upon arriving, however, the place already felt intensely familiar to me. In fact, I feel it's run by the exact same owner as the places I go to in South Bay. Prices are decent and the rooms are cheap. The space, like others I've been to, is not fancy. The rooms get the job done. Rooms line the hallway but there's little problem hearing sound from other groups. The TV is retro and music videos don't match the songs, but they have a good song selection of what you exactly need. If the prices were more expensive, I'm not so sure I would give this place a "4/5". Again, because this place is not fancy. When everything is considered though, I'm a fan.
