My fierce cover of Africa by TOTO
    Susan T.

This place is in my regular circulation of fun things to do on a weekday evening. I love that you can just walk in on a Monday or Tuesday and not have to make a reservation, and you can just spontaneously have a private karaoke party! It's a don't ask/don't tell in terms of BYOB, so you can Just bring what you want in a bag and they won't question you. The family that owns the business is very friendly and accommodating. It's a guaranteed affordable, fun time, and I love going there and have done for years.

Had a blast trying out this karaoke place with my boyfriend! It has been so long since we went to one. We usually go to karaoke boxes in Little Tokyo in LA. But never found a Japantown, SF equivalent till now! They charge by the hour. I think evening prices might be pricier than day prices. We went at around 8pm for an hour and the total came out to about $30. Not bad for an hour of good ol belting session at the top of your lungs in the privacy of your own room! You're able to control the volume of both the bg music and mics. The guy at the counter kindly explained the song queue for us. There is a very adorable dog at the front that seems very friendly! I only heard him bark once when we were already deep into our karaoke session. I think it was from someone else singing a sour note. Hee hee jk it was probably something else. Love that you're able to bring your own food and drinks here! We didn't really take advantage of that since we came after dinner, just had a drink with us. But there's a liqour store right next door which is just perf. Will definitely be going there next time! The place seems like it's been around for a while but I think it was clean and they even gave us socks for our mics! Love this place! We had a blast and will defs be coming back here again.

This was my first time going to this karaoke place and it was great first experience. After dinner my friends and I walked over here from the Fillmore. This place definitely had a lot of song options. What I like most is that you can bring your own drink and food into the karaoke room. There is a corner store right next to it if you want to buy alcohol or snacks to bring. The only thing I noticed that I didn't like is that the furniture and room were pretty run down and outdated. Other than the appearance it was super fun.

Friendly staff and they have a great selection of songs. A little bit pricey but overall a great experience!

Nonetheless, the owners were open to BYOB (which is unheard of because they typically make their money on drinks!).

Started with the lychee martini, which was amazing. It was very boozy and probably the best lychee martini I have had. This is definitely a great place to get drinks. I also got the koji mushroom cream udon. The portion was small and there was no main protein, but it still had a subtle flavor, was very creamy. I just do not think it was the best value for the price. Service was amazing, and they checked on us frequently. The space felt very open, inviting, and peaceful.

They had a final closing party this past Saturday, and we knew we had to stop by for few last drinks and bites. It was low key kinda sad as we had to say goodbye to some of our favorites. Over the years (past decade or so now) we've gotten to know the staff and this spot has been a spot where we knew we'd get great service, good convos, and of course tasty wings, totchos, and $1 oysters on Thursdays. Shout out to Matt, Tracy, Jeremy, and their entire team for the amazing hospitality over the years. Paina closing is a reminder that it's important to not take your favorite restaurants/bars for granted because you never know when that final day will eventually come and when it does it comes way too fast. I hope the team reads this as I just want to say THANK YOU for everything and that you will be missed. The memories and moments I've gotten to enjoy here over the years won't be forgotten!

Speaking of wings, the house Pa'ina flavor was really tasty. Even un-sauced, they were tasty. You will be missed Pa'ina!

It was kind of difficult already with my husbands crutches. A wheelchair could be possible if they sit you at the very front entrance. We wanted to go because they have napolitan and we were very happy that we went. The staff were nice. They keep to themselves and check in on you just enough. There's anime on the shelves if you want to read and relax. Love that they had a warning that some of them may not be suitable for kids. They don't split bills, so heads up if you're going with multiple people. Our boys really liked their curry and katsu. They were able to make it not really spicy and it was just right for them. Napolitan was so good. The serving size was just right. At first I thought it might be too big, but because it was so good, I scarfed that thing down. This will definitely be our spot to go back to when we're in Japantown.

The menu leans more toward Western-style Japanese cuisine, with a large selection of pasta dishes as well as a few rice bowls. I ordered the omurice, oyako don, and a pasta dish. Unfortunately, they had sold out of pasta, so they substituted soba noodles instead. The prices are a bit on the expensive side, but the portions are generous, especially when it comes to the amount of meat, so it still feels like good value. That said, I found the chicken to be a little tough. On the bright side, the takoyaki pancake was surprisingly good. Although the restaurant is somewhat pricey overall, the ingredients are generous and satisfying. My only real complaint is that it's almost impossible to find a server whenever you need one.
