A "communal" karaoke bar with izakaya and good drinks is a fun time! My friend and I came here on a weekend night and were seated in the waiting area before being seated in the main bar area. I ordered the Mint Mojito, which had a good ratio of alcohol to non-alcohol proportion and was quite minty, and the large Sake Bomb, which is not too complicated of a drink but delicious! After a couple karaoke songs by strangers and my friend and I, we ordered some small dishes including chicken karaage, okonomiyaki, takoyaki, and fried squid. All these dishes were delicious, with the takoyaki and fried squid being my favorite. The way the seating is arranged along with the friendly staff make for a very fun environment, where customers are encouraged to interact with each other and make new friends! Besides it being a bit more pricey than I would like, I enjoy coming to Club Mari's every so often. read more

Club Mari is a cozy bar tucked away in the corner of Japantown. The space is a bit small but intimate. They have a variety of yummy cocktails and snacks and food that pair wonderfully with it. And if you're in the mood to sing, they also have karaoke too, for 3 bucks a song. However I don't believe they're open anymore. Very cool sake bar in Japantown! It's next to Marufuku on the left. Drinks: 10/10 Super good but not very strong. My favorite was the Tokyo Bubble because it was sweet and didn't taste like alcohol (actually tasted like juice). I also thought Japan summer was good as well but I prefer Tokyo bubble. Geisha dance and Midori sour tasted a bit more like alcohol. Price is like a normal bar with drinks that range from $10-$20. They have food/appetizers there as well which is really nice! Service: 10/10 They were fast and attentive! Ambiance: 10/10 Love the karaoke and the intimate setting. It was a really small place and pretty hidden. Would not have guessed there was a bar next to marafuku. The area seems a little sus to get to but so worth. Truly a hidden gem in SF. It is super small/cozy inside, I love the laid back feel. They don't have a lot of seating, try to get seated in the bar area if you can. Drinks are also cheap for SF standards, roughly ~$14 for sake cocktails If I remember correctly. My friends and I came around 11pm on a Wednesday. There's two entrances (one on side of the street leading upstairs and one inside the Japantown center plaza). The bar is super small and very Japanese style setting. There's 2 tables in the back for bigger groups (6-8max I would say) that get charged 20% more. Cocktails took about 15min to be made but all looked pretty cool. Menu is online. 7/10 Japan Summer $15 - This teal cocktail was pretty refreshing but did not taste any alcohol. Chill and intimate vibe here at Club Mari's. The main entrance is inside of the shopping mall on the upper level. There is also an exit (might also be used as an entrance, not sure) from the street level. It may look like no one is inside to help you, but if you wait by the stand, a bell will ring summoning staff that someone is waiting to get in. There is limited seating inside, but each time I've gone I was always able to be seated at the bar. There are a couple tables in the back if your group is bigger. The seats that surround the bar are sunken - you will walk up one step, the seating level where you'll sit on a cushion is next, then your feet go in the sunken part. People come here alone, on dates, and with friends for a drink, light bar food, or karaoke. I enjoyed chatting with the bartenders and hearing about where they originally came from and what their stories were. I always find hearing about other people's lives so interesting. The menu can be viewed via QR code. There is plexiglass around the bar. I've had a bottle of sake here one time on a date and on my most recent visit, I had a few cervejas (Sapporos) and tried their croquettes (2-pcs) which was really yummy and a decent size. I would order that again and try some additional food items they had like seaweed salad, takoyaki, etc. Sometimes they can close earlier if business is slow. Cash and card accepted as far as I know. Restrooms are clean and you'll never have to wait in a line to use them. read more

They were incredibly sweet, to the point where you couldn't taste the liquor in them which was a plus for us. The Popsicle was a fun touch! The decor was very cute and service was quick and friendly. A few months ago I was with SO and we passed by Marufuku and I noticed the crowd of people in front of the restaurant. Not SO. He noticed Club Mari's drink menu and said he wanted to try it one day. Fast forward to going to Marufuku for dinner and putting our name on the yelp waitlist. 55-85 minute wait? No problem. We're getting a drink at Club Mari next door. Walking into the hallway, I didn't know what to expect because it was blocked by stanchions and I thought it was closed. The bartender came out and checked our vaccination cards and let us in. The menu had some interesting drinks in there and we ordered: Kyoto Night: This was a great girlie drink. I believe there was peach juice and sake in it - it also came with a paper bamboo straw and umbrella. Very refreshing and light. SO had Cherry Blossom with vodka (can't remember exactly what was in it) and a blue drink. He really liked both drinks. I enjoyed my time at Club Mari's a lot. There's an option for your party to participate in karaoke but beware you need cash to do so. The staff are very accommodating and very fun but what made this visit of mine unsatisfying was the rude, old lady who I'm assuming is the owner of the place. She's strict and lacks empathy. My friend and I were chatting in the bathroom after having bought quite a few drinks and mind you, there's an entire couch in the bathroom, and the owner decided to kick us out and told us we couldn't stay there and chat. She made us stand outside of the venue and rudely shooed us away even though I had an open tab and spent well over $200. For this reason I don't think I would go back unless I want my night ruined. read more

I was on a date and we wanted to get pre-dinner drinks while waiting for Udon Mugizo - he said "I know a place" and took us to a hallway in the corner of the mall that looked a little abandoned and a lot seedy (in that moment I wondered if I should've shared my location with someone). But we rang a doorbell and a staff came to lead us to what was actually an intimately cute bar! In that sense it actually felt like a speakeasy, unintentionally. I loved that the bar seats were cushions on a long bench for a more chill vibe (in fact, the girl next to me came alone with a book! When you get here the way to the bar seems a bit sus but once you make it in it's super quaint and cute. Beware that there's limited seating maybe 10 available spots? All their drinks sounded good, I got the geisha dance, it tasted a bit strong but I loved it. I thought ratio of the flavors paired well together. I forgot what my friends got but I remember them also being super tasty and refreshing. If you have ever desired a restaurant/bar with an exclusive, low-key vibe, excellent cocktails, and wonderful food this is your place. I have tried to come here a few times in the past with larger groups late at night on the weekend and until tonight I was unable to enter due to my group size and lack of planning. Tonight I stumbled upon this place after a movie and decided to sit down and I am so very glad I did. Each and every aspect of this bar is crafted to perfection and delivers the experience of "hidden treasure" bar. The intimidating camera and doorbell entryway perform the function which they are designed to perform in that they repel bad vibes and irredeemably boring groups from this sanctuary. As I settled down in my seat at the bar, I found it challenging to differentiate the space and energy from that of a five star hotel bar in any major Asian city, or at least the bar the concierge would recommend (only to their cool guests.) I can recommend with confidence the well-balanced and refreshing sake gin martini, as well as the Wagyu beef dish and the potato croquettes. The ambience was welcoming and chill, setting the stage for a rambunctious night of karaoke later on. A small but well blended small group of locals and first timers made up the cozy space of this intimate bar. Drinks were alright, nothing to write home about. We were given a jelly sake drink instead of what we ordered, but whatever, mistakes happen. However the jelly drink wasn't very good, A LOT of jelly in there and not very much drink. Service wasn't very good either, they were talking to their friend and not being very attentive to us or the other guests. Wow! I've been to japantown more than I can count over the decade! This is such an excellent hidden spot next to Marafuku-Ramen. This is a perfect place for a date night. It's a bar that almost look like a speakeasy to me. My friend and I walked on post St and saw "open" sign and stairs. We didn't know what we were getting in but I am glad we did. Their drinks are delish! I had one of the sake cocktail and loved it. Sake selection was limited but not too terrible. Food were okay not the greatest. The ambiance was great. I got lucky being there when regulars were there and they sang non stop. It was super entertaining! I want to love this place so much because I live around the corner, but it's kinda weird. It's a great space, the vibe is really nice, lots of good decor. You sit at the bar to order, but then they go off to a kitchen across the hall to make the drinks, so you never really see the bartender make drinks. It looks like it used to be a sushi bar, but they never converted it to a drink bar, so it still has the hood, counter, but no drink wells. If I'm sitting at the bar somewhere, the focus is usually on the bartender and the bottle selection, but this place has just a few bottles of alcohol on a shelf behind the bar, but those are not used to make drinks? There's a TV on the bar that shows weird videos of vacation type places, but no Japan videos? The food was really good though! Karoke was kinda loud and we were unable to continue our conversations, so we left. I'll probably come back once in a while, because it is a cool place, but just weird that you sit at the bar and nothing happens behind the bar, they just take your order and disappear for a few minutes and come back with drinks. read more

I checked out this place with my father and I noticed that it had very few seats for a bar so we had to sit in the corner. The waiter was very nice and attentive to our order. Also, I love the bamboo decor of the place and how the bar is set up, I do wish it was a bit bigger. I ordered a beer and edamame. The beer was pretty good, and I liked the edamame. I thought they gave a pretty good portion of edamame for the price. Overall, this place is a very cozy bar to hang out with your friends. I went here on NYE. Great spot to spend the night. Decent drink selection and some small bites at the bar. Karaoke was fun and we had a great time sitting at the bar. My only complaint was that we put in two song requests and were told to provide cash or credit card to hold the songs. We provided a card and did not hear our songs for the next 2 hours.
