The seating policy is confusing. We showed up around 8pm on a Friday and were told that it was full and to leave a phone number. 20 minutes later I returned. A different person greeted me and was ready to seat us. But we had not been called, and there were several people ahead of us on the sheet. The room is comfortable and cute. Karaoke is available at $3/song, cash only.

Would not have guessed there was a bar next to marafuku. The area seems a little sus to get to but so worth. Truly a hidden gem in SF. It is super small/cozy inside, I love the laid back feel. They don't have a lot of seating, try to get seated in the bar area if you can. Drinks are also cheap for SF standards, roughly ~$14 for sake cocktails If I remember correctly. They specialize in sake cocktails that are quite sweet making it hard to taste the liquor which I really like. My favorite are the Japanese summer and kyoto night.

My friends and I came around 11pm on a Wednesday. There's two entrances (one on side of the street leading upstairs and one inside the Japantown center plaza). The bar is super small and very Japanese style setting. There's 2 tables in the back for bigger groups (6-8max I would say) that get charged 20% more. Cocktails took about 15min to be made but all looked pretty cool. Menu is online. 7/10 Japan Summer $15 - This teal cocktail was pretty refreshing but did not taste any alcohol. There was a popsicle in it and the drink tasted more like that. Not too sweet but it was just ok drink overall. Good presentation.

Chill and intimate vibe here at Club Mari's. The main entrance is inside of the shopping mall on the upper level. There is also an exit (might also be used as an entrance, not sure) from the street level. It may look like no one is inside to help you, but if you wait by the stand, a bell will ring summoning staff that someone is waiting to get in. There is limited seating inside, but each time I've gone I was always able to be seated at the bar. There are a couple tables in the back if your group is bigger. The seats that surround the bar are sunken - you will walk up one step, the seating level where you'll sit on a cushion is next, then your feet go in the sunken part. People come here alone, on dates, and with friends for a drink, light bar food, or karaoke. I enjoyed chatting with the bartenders and hearing about where they originally came from and what their stories were. I always find hearing about other people's lives so interesting. The menu can be viewed via QR code. There is plexiglass around the bar. I've had a bottle of sake here one time on a date and on my most recent visit, I had a few cervejas (Sapporos) and tried their croquettes (2-pcs) which was really yummy and a decent size. I would order that again and try some additional food items they had like seaweed salad, takoyaki, etc. Sometimes they can close earlier if business is slow. Cash and card accepted as far as I know. Restrooms are clean and you'll never have to wait in a line to use them.

Stopped by Club Mari's with friends for some pre-dinner drinks! Pictured here are the Japanese summer and Kyoto night drinks. They were incredibly sweet, to the point where you couldn't taste the liquor in them which was a plus for us. The Popsicle was a fun touch! The decor was very cute and service was quick and friendly. On the night we visited, it seemed more like a spot to stop by quickly than one to hang out for the night.

A few months ago I was with SO and we passed by Marufuku and I noticed the crowd of people in front of the restaurant. Not SO. He noticed Club Mari's drink menu and said he wanted to try it one day. Fast forward to going to Marufuku for dinner and putting our name on the yelp waitlist. 55-85 minute wait? No problem. We're getting a drink at Club Mari next door. Walking into the hallway, I didn't know what to expect because it was blocked by stanchions and I thought it was closed. The bartender came out and checked our vaccination cards and let us in. The menu had some interesting drinks in there and we ordered: Kyoto Night: This was a great girlie drink. I believe there was peach juice and sake in it - it also came with a paper bamboo straw and umbrella. Very refreshing and light. SO had Cherry Blossom with vodka (can't remember exactly what was in it) and a blue drink. He really liked both drinks. Service was attentive (it wasn't that busy yet) and it was a great bar to go to before getting ramen next door.

I enjoyed my time at Club Mari's a lot. There's an option for your party to participate in karaoke but beware you need cash to do so. The staff are very accommodating and very fun but what made this visit of mine unsatisfying was the rude, old lady who I'm assuming is the owner of the place. She's strict and lacks empathy. My friend and I were chatting in the bathroom after having bought quite a few drinks and mind you, there's an entire couch in the bathroom, and the owner decided to kick us out and told us we couldn't stay there and chat. She made us stand outside of the venue and rudely shooed us away even though I had an open tab and spent well over $200. For this reason I don't think I would go back unless I want my night ruined.

It was kinda confusing to get in but my friend and I were lucky that 2 people left right when we arrived and were seated quickly. Ring the doorbell or text the number outside. Really cute and intimate vibe and the drinks were pretty too. You can sing karaoke for the whole bar to hear, but I think they only take cash. Would come again!

When you get here the way to the bar seems a bit sus but once you make it in it's super quaint and cute. Beware that there's limited seating maybe 10 available spots? All their drinks sounded good, I got the geisha dance, it tasted a bit strong but I loved it. I thought ratio of the flavors paired well together. I forgot what my friends got but I remember them also being super tasty and refreshing. I saw the people next to be get a mogura sake bomb and it looked crazy, a mini bottle of sake tipped upside down into a giant cup of beer. The bar tender was also friendly and it's a nice quiet place amongst the busy Japantown. I'd definitely come back again!

Fantastic little spot tucked away beside Marufuku, highly recommend stopping in for a lovely, traditional Japanese izakaya experience while you wait for your turn at the ramen or udon spots nearby. Service was prompt and friendly, atmosphere was delightful, vibes were very lowkey. I'll certainly be back, likely later this week:)

Because it gets very crowded during First Thursdays, the energy feels more like a social event than a typical bar night. The photo here was taken from their little loft area, which is actually really cute and a great spot for people watching since you can see the whole bar and crowd from above. One thing I wasn't sure about was the plastic cups. Every time I've gone they've served drinks in plastic cups, but since it's so busy during First Thursdays, I'm not sure if that's their normal setup or just something they do to keep things moving during the event. I ordered a rosé, which was perfectly fine and easy to drink while walking around.

Luckily, my friend had already been to Iron Horse Cocktails, and suggested we go there instead. Walking down the alleyway it is located in was a nice getaway from the otherwise hectic union square atmosphere. Walking in was also a neat experience that felt like we were stepping out of the city into a tiny pub. We also really liked the atmosphere inside and the cozy upper floor that had an interesting mix of old paintings and woodwork, creating an eclectic feel. I got the We've Got the Beet cocktail with mezcal, beet reduction, ginger, fresh citrus, thyme and firewater bitters. I love mezcal's smoky flavors and was drawn to the combination of ginger, citrus and mezcal flavors in the drink. The cocktail was very good and had a nice smokiness from the mezcal, along with the kick from the ginger and zest from the citrus, creating a refreshing and tasty drink. My friend got the About Thyme, with gin, blackberry liquor, black pepper thyme syrup and fresh citrus. We both really liked his drink as well, which had an interesting kick from the black pepper thyme syrup that offset the gin and blackberry liquor nicely. While we only had time to grab a drink each, we were both very happy with the drinks and would definitely come back the next time we're in the area.
