Taisho SF... where to start? Food: I'm just visiting the area and this place caught my eye, Open late, Japanese food, and Karaoke! I ordered Spam Musubi, and the Curry Loco Moco. Very delicious fusion of flavor! And I'm a big Original Loco Moco head! The service: Man the staff was so inviting. We stepped in for dinner right around 10pm, Karaoke was going and the staff was able to seat us right away. Due to the music volume, I guess I misheard the waiter Confirming my order. And I said yes to the wrong order. I got Katsu Curry instead of the Loco Moco. I informed the waiter and they made it right no questions asked. Superb. Came here on a Thursday night around 10pm and this place was live. There were people all around the restaurant participating in kareoke as they have multiple microphones. They also had pokemon playing on another tv and another anime moving playing on a third tv in the main room with the kareoke that was going on. We waited a few minutes to be seated, server greeted us with water after a few minutes and took our order shortly afterwards. For the restaurant being so busy, we didn't wait that long for our food. We had a great fun evening Thursday night. We were party of six arriving for HH; then karaoke. Our friend reserved a private karaoke room for 7pm. HH bar bites were great, and moderately priced. And it wasn't deep fried bites only. HH between 5p-7pm. Parking can be challenging. We had our good luck parking karma hat on, and found metered parking across the street. Service was great. I came here for my friend's birthday celebration on a Saturday night. The kalua pork dinner plate $16 was really yummy and big portion. They add SF health care mandate fee and mandatory 20% tip for eating at the karaoke room though. I think my friend should've arranged eating dinner at their dining area, and then sing karaoke for 2 hours. Since we ate while singing karaoke, we barely talked. It was nice of them to provide water in the room and the lightening was good. The dining area has beautiful decorations. I came to TaishoSF on a weekend night for the first time with a friend. Their menu options are plentiful, ranging from curries to porridge to salads. I tried their Katsu Curry while my friend tried their Jenny's Oxtail Porridge. The portion size of the oxtail porridge was small but delicious! It satisfied my friend's soup craving for a cold SF fall day. The katsu was perfectly fried in my katsu curry, and it was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The curry sauce itself was rich, savory, and not too spicy. While the oxtail porridge was a bit smaller than we had hoped, the katsu curry portion size was generous, giving me food for leftovers the next day. While there's many great katsu curry places to try in SF, this is near the top of the list! read more

Stumbled into this restaurant/bar last night while killing some time waiting for a concert last night. It turned out to be a good decision for our wallets, tummies, and spirits! We were walking around the Tender/Nob area in search of a comfortable spot to kill a few hours while waiting for a concert to start in the Civic Center area. What drew us to this establishment were the cute little string of lanterns outside, the video menu in the front window, and the name! The inside is a really cavernous space, with bars, tables, long hallways, and upstairs karaoke lounges & balcony. Decor is nice and seasonal, with a Halloween display front & center. They even had a cute little Street Fighter video game to get all retro and Japanese! Very clean restaurant, big, airy, and well-laid out. Greeted by friendly hostess and employees. Bathrooms were clean too. Discovered it was happy hour, and since we were en route to a concert, didn't want to get too bogged down with a big, heavy meal, so we opted for happy hour appetizers & drinks. Prices were very good for the portions offered. We ordered Furikake Fries, Taisho Fries, Edamame, and Seaweed salad and split a pitcher of Sapporo. The final bill was under $40, outstanding! The Furikake fries came with a surprise fried egg on top, sweet! Always love having some protein. The Taisho fries had a nice amount of bonito flakes & seasoning on them too, and tasted great. Brighter dish needed any additional seasoning to taste, as they tasted good as-is. The edamame was tasty, salty, and fresh. And seaweed salad was crunchy, lightly marinated, and fresh. And the Sapporo was cold, draft, and very satisfying! Service was attentive, friendly, and efficient. Thr overall atmosphere & decor of this place is very nice & comfortable. The bar area looked like a good place to camp out for a few hours, and offered a good view of the clean kitchen that was doling out the good food. Music was very modern & poppy, heard some Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan. While we're there, people started to get off of work and come in for dinner & karaoke. Even the karaoke prices have a happy hour discount, very cool. Anyways, finding this place was super random as well as worth it. Good food, good value, good service, and a comfortable spot to hang out and eat/drink for a few hours while waiting for an event. I'd definitely recommend it just one value & quality alone. Next time, will have to try karaoke and/or dinner entrees. They looked good too, and seemed to be priced conservatively. Nice, because everything is so expensive these days, always a pleasure to discover a new spot that is kind on the wallet, and satisfying to the stomach.
