Next stop on my tour was Joe's Italian Deli. The timing was perfect, as it had just started to rain and we needed shelter- and Joe's is very roomy inside, with seating for those who wish to eat in. The interior of Joe's is awesome, with the walls stocked with a great supply of Italian cooking fare. As you journey towards the deli counter you're immediately greeted with an offer to sample the fresh, house made mozzarella. Captain obvious pro tip: SAMPLE THE MOZZ To put it plainly, this was the best mozzarella I have ever had in my life, and I am someone who enjoys his mozz. It had a delicious milky flavor, was extremely smooth, and had a wonderful salt profile that took it to another level. It was truly amazing. I could go on about it forever, but in the essence of time... Our intent was to order 2 chicken parm heroes, but the man at the counter who gave us the mozz sample recommended the 'Brontese' and after reading the ingredients (Prosciutto diParma, fresh mozz, wild arugula, Sicilian pistachio cream, evoo, cracked pepper) I went for it. Needless to say it may have been the best deli sandwich I've ever had. The way the pistachio combined with the prosciutto and mozzarella-but didn't overtake it, was amazing. So to go along with my Brontese, we ordered a Chicken Parm, and a Bronx Bee (crispy chicken cutlet, hot honey drizzle, fresh mozz, sweet soppressata, hot cherry peppers, baby arugula) and loved them all. Outrageous value as sandwich prices are extremely reasonable. Awesome experience at Joe's. The staff was incredible...helpful, kind, and went out of their way to talk food with us. The mozzarella here is very fresh. I got sandwiches and they are huge and heavy with a lot of fillings. I had DSNY: chicken cutlets with eggplants, mozzarella, and roasted red peppers. I wish they put more roasted peppers to give more flavor. There are several cutlets in that sandwich. Maybe trade one cutlet with more red peppers to add sweetness to the sandwich. I didn't taste any vinaigrette as described on the menu. I also had Con Ed: prosciutto, eggplant, arugula, mozzarella , sun dried tomatoes. This sandwich is tastier than DSNY. I recommend this one. The guy who helped me in my opinion was a bit pushy. He gave me a sample of cheese. It was really good. It reminded me of L'amuse Gouda. It's sweet, savory, like butterscotch. He tried to sell me a big piece. I asked for a small piece. He cut me almost a pound. I recommend to be more specific about the weight. read more

DSNY is a MUST! This sandwich was perfection. I also tried the Last Meal and the FDNY. They were very good as well! All the ingredients seem fresh. The bread is soft and not too thick so easy to bite into the sandwiches. All sandwiches are $13.78; it came to about $75 for 5 sandwiches. Good price for the size of the sandwiches! I got two meals out of mine. We ordered online since it was around lunchtime and we didn't want to risk waiting. Our order was ready when we got there and it wasn't very busy. Walked in and was offered a sample of cheese and speck - ended up buying both so what a great way to make a sale. I ended up dropping about $100 on cheeses, cold cuts, and some imported goods from Italy that I just can't find here in the Capital District (outside Albany.) Was recently in the Arthur ave area for a little Christmas shopping with my daughter and we had to stop into joes Italian deli. If you have never been there your in for a treat. Behind the back counter where you order is a huge double cooler with glass doors stacked with cuts of delicious Italian meats. As they take orders the meats are taken out, brought to a slicer and made into delicious sandwiches. All the sandwiches have a New York inspired names. I had the uncle Frank. I've heard so many amazing things about this place and because I'm currently staying in Little Italy, it felt like a perfect spot to check off of my list! The staff was friendly- as soon as I walked in they offered me a hunk of freshly made mozzarella which was DELISH. I ended up ordering some because it was so good lol. For my food, I ordered the Italian sub which was hugeee and fairly tasty but dry. I don't believe there were any sauces on there which was disappointing and I wish I would have it caught earlier so I could have had them add some. Overall though the spot is really clean and nice to look at! They have some lovely little trinkets and specialty food items that seem like they would be great to give as gifts. This place has a version that is so good I might say it's the best I've ever had. And it was only 14 bucks and big enough to be cut in three sections (2/3 of the sandwich is enough for a hungry lunch) I will say that any time I see boars head at a speciality sandwich shop I find it odd (why have the same provider as every corner deli in the world) but this place is legit through and through. When you review as many places as I have you can just tell when you are about to have a 5 star experience. This spot is awesome. They have a hot food section that has all the heavy hitters. I was in the mood for a sandwich so I went with the da vinci. It had breaded eggplant swiss and peppers with a pesto sauce in it. It was unbelievable. The eggplant still had texture and the flavors worked nicely. The star of the show was the bread. Get the sesame seed long roll since that one was perfect with the sandwich.
