In Montreal for a few days and our hotel is near Chinatown so roasted duck is on the menu. The restaurant is a bit hard to find because it's in an office building but it's the first one to the right once you're there. The decor is a bit dated but we took the food to go so it didn't really bother us. The young lady who helped me was really nice and patient with all my questions. We ended up getting the combo with double portions of duck. It came with rice, and we ordered a side of side of bok choy. The duck was super flavorful. Whenever I eat duck, I want to dip it in a soy/siracha/sesame oil sauce but this duck did not need it. It was so good on its own and the juices flavored the rice really nicely. The pickled veggies were really good. The onion salad thing threw me off at first but it got better the more I ate it. The only thing that would've made the meal better was if there was oyster sauce on the bok choy. All in all, super amazing duck,m. I think I'm going to go back before my vacay ends. read more

I have been to Dobe & Andy several times for some takeout roasted pork. Everybody said that the food was very good and it is hard to find takeout roast pork restaurants in Montreal. I am not sure of this place. The service was pretty hostile since I was not dining in. I paid for my food and I got my receipt. Then I have to wait for 10 minutes before I got my food. There was a hostility from everybody. Everybody was always in a bad mood. I won't go back since I found a few restaurants on St. Laurent st where I can get roast pork. read more

We were in Montreal the week of May 10. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and a different person so we decided to give it a try for a late lunch. It was a disappointment. The location is difficult to find because it is inside an office building. The ambience was more like a fast food restaurant. They were playing interesting music on their system. It was a bit noisy and our table looked over a very sketchy alley. I ordered the barbecue pork with Vermilion soup. The pork was cut into large pieces that made it difficult to eat. It was not very tasty. The Vermilion soup was very bland. It almost tasted like hospital food. The waiter never came by again to find out how we liked our meal or if he could get us anything else. When it was time to pay our bill, it was a typical situation in an Asian restaurant where you go up to the cash register and they take care of you. We will not return. read more

We ordered the char siu and roast pork rice, and the price was pretty reasonable. Unfortunately, the char siu was quite salty and a bit dry--I'm not sure how fresh it was. On the other hand, I really liked the roast pork. The skin was nice and crispy, which made it much more enjoyable. The service was very good, and the waitress patiently answered all of our questions. Interested in Chinese food for lunch, my nephew found Dobe & Andy online for us. What a disappointment! Inside an office building, the restaurant's red decorated ceiling and columns are complemented by dated furniture and walls plastered with martial arts movie posters. From that, it looked like it had been around for some time. Tried their large BBQ meats plate, with roasted pork, duck and chicken. The duck (normally my favorite) drumstick was mostly bone - and that's diplomatic and a lot extra for a piece of bone with a little duck. The accompanying scallion sauce was the only thing that stood out. Given these are items I've been eating all my life as a native New Yorker starting with meals in our Chinatown, can attest all three roast meats had absolutely no flavor! We also ordered two unremarkable noodle dishes. It was only worth picking out the shrimp and other stuff out of our Singapore Noodles. I've had better Chinese elsewhere in Montréal. I love duck (had it three times on my week trip to Montreal lol) and a local friend suggested I check this place out. He wasn't wrong, it's a great little spot! No frills, Bruce Lee decked walls, and delicious food. We got the duck noodles and a chicken fried rice as well as a pot of jasmine tea and all of it was great. Not amazing but just solid -- big portions, affordable prices, memorable meal! Plus you're in and out of there so fast if you need to be, very nice service. Solid Chinatown spot! It's my third time visiting this place and always a delight. Although I said I would try something new, I never did. I always come back for the char siu. It's a little foreign bbq place that serves meats, rice, noodles, soup and such. The menu is quite extensive. The signature dish is choice or 1 to 3 meats and a choice of side in various noodles and rice forms. I took that in the past and it was very good. This time, I wanted to have vegetable but they don't do replacement. Thus we took the big 2 meats platter as a starter with a vegetable of the week plates (which was bok choy). It was good. Good Chinese bbq offered at great value. I split my 4 meat all dressed order which included lo mein and a fried egg with my spouse and we were sufficiently fed with the portions offered here at the low low price of 33$. The scallion oil on top really takes the dish to the next level. I appreciate their menu is prices including tax. They also take American credit here which is very convenient as many of these local shops sometimes are cash only. When you're ready to pay you go to the take out counter to settle your bill. Nice to have a Canto food option in the heart of Montreal Chinatown. We came due to all the good reviews.  We enjoyed the lemon ice tea, stir fried noodles, veggies, and cucumber salad. The meats such as BBQ pork and duck were a bit too salty for our tastes coming from SGV/LA.  I do think the saltiness it's more of a standard in Montreal with the love of the smoked meat.  For the 2 or 3 meat plate, you are able to duplicate the option because hubby ended up getting 3x cha siu which is his favorite meat.  He was able to order extra side of onion with ginger and oil for his rice so he was happy.  The other complaint I would have is the 2 meat egg noodle soup I ordered was in lukewarm temperature. read more

the place kind inside the building so some might miss it, but there is a name outside for you to see. i LOVE the restaurant theme. Food was amazing. The crispy duck noodle was great especially the sauce on top of it. It so flavorful. We got meat platter which has crispy pork, char siu, and roasted duck. I love how the duck didnt have the stink smell of duck. Not a lot of places can do that. We also ordered something look like crab sauce over rice it pretty good too. The service was great. she supper friendly and helpful. checking on us see if we need anything and she even trying to putting out the plates for us. Dobe & Andy is one of the best casual restaurants in Montreal's Chinatown. Unfortunately, as of December 2022, the restaurant is out of roast duck because of the ongoing avian flu. However, there is still plenty of other options to choose from, including soy chicken and delicious roast pork. I ordered the roast pork meal with rice, radish, and delicious ginger scallion sauce. This is the type of Chinese comfort food I crave and can't find where I currently live, so I was thankful to enjoy this meal while in Montreal. The roast pork is juicy and tender, with crispy skin. The ginger scallion sauce was an unexpected and appreciated surprise. I can eat ginger scallion sauce with anything, but it's usually only served with chicken. The lemon tea is homemade, and there are real slices of lemon in the tea. Refreshing and recommended to have with any meal. All of this for $15 CAN was a good deal. If I lived in Montreal, this would be one of my regular dining spots. read more

Easy 5 stars for me- great food, wonderful and warm service, and a really good value. I had the three-meats platter (roasted pork, duck, and chicken- all were great, the pork was actually my favorite) and my husband enjoyed some vegetarian noodles. Friendly service is so rare these days I could almost weep when I receive it. No time for tears, though, when the food is this good! From a Chinese person perspective, this was pretty disappointing. Other than the milk tea and iced lemon tea (which was the highlight of the meal), with the limited menu, this is more a Chinese restaurant than HK Style cafe. Wonton noodles were no better than what we could make at home. Fried chow mein was fried too much and definitely not suited for the thin noodles they used. On top of that, it wasn't marked as fried on the menu. The thing that made the lunch worse is that they might have forgotten about our order and we waited half an hour and then had to ask. I came to Dobe & Andy for dinner a while ago. The cafe had an interesting setup that made me think this is what a cafe in Hong Kong is like. They have quite an extensive menu considering the setup as well. In terms of food, I tried Number 63: Choice of 3 meats: Duck, Char Siu, and Roasted Pork and I also got the HK Lemon Tea. It was excellent value for the quality and quantity of the food. The roast duck was nicely barbecued but a bit too salty. The roast pork was really good in that it was crunchy and the fat melted/didn't feel like fat. The char siu had good flavour and were nice cuts of meat (skinny and fat layer throughout). The green onion+ginger mix was an amazing touch that eliminated the greasiness and was flavourful on its own. The lemon tea was quite nice as well. Overall, I'd give it 8.8/10 read more

Nice casual Chinese eatery on Rue St Urbain in Chinatown, it was a bit hard to find, but it's inside the main doors into a shopping mall.... As you walk in, there's a nice handwritten blackboard with some specials (and corresponding prices). There's also a regular menu by the register. Our last meal in Montreal, we decided to walk to Chinatown from our hotel. After stops at bakeries (for almond croissant and buns), we came to this restaurant right at 11am. The restaurant is typical of Cantonese style cafes in other cities like LA or SF, nothing fancy. We ordered noodles with duck and BBQ combo to share. The pork skin was very crispy, not sure whether it's because we came early in the day, the BBQ pork was tasty, and the chicken was meaty and not dry, good soy sauce taste. I was told by my son that the noodles were very good, as was the duck. Overall a good comfort food experience, and probably the cheapest meal we had during our trip. Service was brief but friendly. Would try again if we are in the neighborhood. read more

This place has great décor and the service is sparse but friendly, not to mention the food tastes homemade and is definitely comfort food. We got the duck noodles and a HK style milk tea while we were here as a farewell meal in Montreal, and it didn't disappoint. This is a not so hidden gem located in Chinatown. The place is no frills and you can tell it is well loved by locals just the way it is. There are succulent meats hung in the display window like the wonderful Chinese bbq place that it is. The roasted pork and soy sauce chicken is delicious. I'm hyped over their green onion, ginger oil. The price is fair for the portions provided and I was quite full from the meal. This place is my staple to-go spot for Cantonese roast meats and crispy noodles! Over my 2 weeks in Montreal, I made 4-5 visits and sampled different roast meats including the duck and BBQ char siew (my favorites, but frankly they are all great), pork and soy sauce chicken. I also tried the wonton soup which I recommend. The dishes were consistently savory and I especially recommend pairing with the homemade chilli sauces! Probably my favourite Hong Kong Cafe in Montreal. Dobe and Andy serves real milk tea--which is pretty rare here!Strong and silky smooth! What I also like is that they have an afternoon tea menu. Reminds me of Cafe de Coral in a way. Sure the decor isn't much to look at, but the food makes up for it. Also their Asian bbq meats on rice is AMAZING! Don't forget to ask for the ginger and spring onion on the side to mix in with your rice :) At least that's how I like to do it! Was my last proper meal in Montreal and I chose it specifically because I was missing the cha chaan tengs and Chinese BBQ from Vancouver (I was only away for, like, a week loool and would be back later that night). This hit the spot though. We got the salted fish fried rice and roasted duck + char siu on rice. Fried rice was standard but so satisfying. Nice big (but not super salty) pieces of salt fish throughout. I like my salt fish in fried rice to be quite salty (since it's mostly rice after all!) but it was still good. The roasted duck was delicious, lots of lovely roasted skin and meat didn't taste too gamey. Not a particularly fatty duck that we received which was ok for me since few places render the fat enough anyways. The char siu was meh, definitely not the best I've had and pieces were very small (can't see it too well in the photo.) No delicious barbecued fat at all :-( But I mostly covered it up with the delicious green onion and ginger oil. Obviously we had to get a HK milk tea and coffee tea. Was good and hit the spot too but wished they were stronger. We could tell they catered to local tastes a bit (despite being in Chinatown) but I still left satisfied and full (and looking forward to going back to all the Chinese food I can dream of in Vancouver). I can't back talk about their food. It definitely had that old school feels when I stepped in. I ordered the classic 2 meats (Roast & BBQ Pork) over rice. First place I ever had their chopped herb sauce (Asian Chimichurri sauce) over the roast pork. Most places I've eaten usually serves that with roasted or soy sauce chicken. Why I've given them the 2 star rating. First tip. If you are a foreigner. Please make sure to have Canadian money with you. They do NOT accept any cards of sorts. Second tip. Make sure you speak or understand Chinese. Oh wait. I DO! I asked them nicely if they accept American currency. The nice lady said yes. She didn't know what the exchange rate was and spoke over me towards another co worker in Cantonese if they should just scam me? I looked up at her...without a peep. Due to how shocked I was. The meal was CAD $8. I've given her a USD $20 she returns CAD $11 and some change. So base on dishonorable services. It drops a 2. Most would've given one for the experience but I don't want to pull the chefs down base on the one employee. She even had the audacity to wish me a nice day after scamming me. Dobe & Andy is a delicious restaurant right at the entrance (or what I believe was the entrance) of China town. I ordered the Char sui with rice, which was really good. I don't typically like pork, so this order was a risk. But it was flavored so well and there was hardly any fat on the pork. The spring rolls were also interesting, as they had a bit of a curry taste to them. All and all very yummy and I recommend. read more
