Omg this place is phenomenal! Some of the best ribs, pulled pork, and the sides are to die for! I ended up ordering just about everything on the menu, from the BBQ no sauce just dry rubbed and some sauce to go, the mac n cheese was the best I've had out, and greens like Daddy cooked! I also ordered a medley of potato salad, rice, slaw, and cornbread! For dessert I got banana pudding and ate until I thought I would die! Just exactly what we were looking for on our trip to NC. We have one or two bbq places at home in Atlanta that we like, but this is better!!!!! We made a second trip here on the way out. Everything is done right-- even the collard greens! The potato salad , cucumber salad and Mac n Cheese are all outstanding. The sauces were exceptional --the red spicy bbq sauce was our favorite. Beware the dry poultry.... I've been here twice now (I live down the street) and after I get how from work, I come in about 45 minutes to close. This is NOT a good time to order. They are usually out of a majority of menu items and the chicken is extremely dry (probably left over from earlier in the day when fresh). Doc browns has some of the most delicious brisket around, and when paired with their Alabama White bbq sauce...! The downside is that they often run out of that brisket before dinner time. Stopped at Doc Browns for a lunch break during our spring break road trip. Customer service was great and the food was excellent. Highly recommend the Brown Bag special (choice of sandwich, chips, drink) for the kiddos or if you're looking to keep things light. Our kids had the pulled pork and loved it. If you're looking for a little more, the ribs were also an excellent option. Vegetarians and Vegans can enjoy the Tempeh sandwich and many of the sides (ex. collard greens, coleslaw (they have a non cream option), sweet potato casserole (no marshmallows), beans, etc). Try to get in early to get the desserts. We missed out on the banana pudding and their apple dessert. We ended lunch leaving with a delicious small box of fresh out of the oven corn bread. When Doc Browns first opened we had a couple of so so experiences. A take it or leave it sort of thing. We tried them again a few months ago out of sheer convenience and I will say we were pleasantly surprised with the improvement. We have been back several times in the last few months and the food has been consistent. The service is always great and this last time they went out of their way to take care of our 75 pound "pup". We didn't take her inside of course but they brought her water and with our permission some beef bones that we destined for the scrap pile. The food is good and served quickly. Again a business owner who is in denial. Your food was bad the cashier was trying to salvage my supper, but your cook needs to be replaced. Your establishment looks like a wreck. Start with your sign out front. The pork was stringing and lukewarm. The slaw was tasteless. The corn muffin was burnt, cold, and hard. You may justify your place with the comment "taste and preference". Most people want to spend their hard earned money in this time of inflation carefully. Stole a couple bites of my friend's peanut butter pie and it was rich and delicious. I wish I could eat here all the time. SERVICE: It's casual -- order up, seat yourself. However, I ordered from the owner and he was very patient and friendly -- gave his recommendations and handled my indecisive nature by answering my questions about what is delicious. I am a barbecue fanatic and my wife and I gave Doc Browns a chance on a visit not too long ago. Our mistake. The staff was friendly but seemed quite shocked that a person would request a craft beer such as a nice IPA and in a place named Asheville, North Carolina. This is practically the craft beer capital of North America and a barbecue joint without some local craft beers to offer patrons is a crime that should result in their smoker being apprehended by the authorities. My opinion, and I admit that I have a big mouth and see exactly the real way I think it. The ribs were priced by the each. The ribs were basically dry and the barbecue sauce had been cooked for so long that it was glazed almost to the point of being candy on top of each rib they certainly lacked at tender fall off the bone taste that we all seek back home at our favorites. I don't blame that result on too much heat. It was simply a result from being in the smoker for far too long. I had the pulled pork and regretted making that decision for the entire rest of the day. My wife's ripick wasbrisket, she's from Texasand her dishwasdry enough to be a pair of cracked cowboy boots. Doc Brown's BBQ is a local to me place. My favorite thing for lunch is brisket sandwich and collard greens. I obviously think it's good as I eat it for lunch about once a week or so. The staff like most places is having trouble finding help. But Krista is always pleasant and eager to explain anything from the menu. So at the peak of lunch time be patient they will get you as quickly as possible. I have tried the pork also and found it to be very good. I was drawn to this place thanks to an article in Edible Asheville. An article by a vegetarian. A vegetarian who'd tried only the sides and not the 'cue. What was I thinking??? Anyway, stopped here for a late lunch: First, the good: All three of us ate like pigs...pardon the pun... no, actually, don't since y'all know I'm shameless by now... for under $30.00. This included a half-rack of Ribs! We were introduced to Alabama White Sauce, which near as I can figure it, is an all-purpose sweet 'n tangy mayo-based BBQ go-with. Soda worshiping kid also got to try Cheerwine for the first time. I may be misquoting here, but I do believe the counter gal described it as being "Totally OG. Like the lovechild of Cherry Coke and Dr. Pepper." Again, completely paraphrasing, but she wasn't wrong. Appreciated the effort to elevate sides. Bourbon Applesauce was a standout. And if you're into Mac 'n Cheese Pie, like my kid, then I'd venture to guess you'd enjoy the rendition here. The has potential, but could've been better: Sausage was nicely seasoned, but a bit overcooked and dry. Ribs were tender and meaty, but ultra bland. Pulled Pork was tender, but needed a killer sauce to amp it up and the sauces here that we tried fell short in terms of flavor. Indeed. The 'they would taste good on a boot' sauces at Haywood Smokehouse in Dillsboro, which we'd tried a few days earlier, truly spoiled us, I fear, for future BBQ spots. Coleslaw Flight was a fun concept, but I can't say I fell in love with the execution. The Blue Cheese Slaw needed more seasoning and tangy blue cheese flavor. There was a very finely chopped, kicked up, vinegary Slaw, if memory serves, that was definitely interesting to try. And a creamy mayo-based one that was fine, but not very memorable. I think they were out of the fourth pick, so we doubled up on one of the others. Service was very accommodating, replete with Southern charm that would've been right at home in a Reese Witherspoon movie. At least it sure seemed that way to this Northern girl. Just in skimming this eatery's Yelp reviews, it seems the proprietor is open-minded when it comes to constructive diner feedback, which to me, speaks to an ability to evolve and grow. Sorry Doc Brown BBQ! This BBQ is not very good, I've had better from the frozen section in the grocery store :-the staff was great! Very friendly! The food is low quality and has a very odd taste. Not my favorite place, I would only recommend to people who don't like lean, TN style BBQ. The best thing we had was the sausage, and turkey. The pulled beef is greasy. The Mac and cheese was okay, the beans were not great and the corn bread was odd. First bid thing you should know is that the slaw is weird. It looks more like grits than slaw, BUT don't let it fool you it is perfect BBQ sandwich slaw!!! It really sets the flavors off! It was good value for the price, at just a smidge over 11 bucks a plate -- full plate with two sides to your meat plus a corn muffin. Our kids rhected most of it. The smoked turkey was great. First time at Doc Brown's. Covid has the indoor seating closed but there are picnic tables outside and the drive-up is open for takeaway. Unfortunately, not all menu items were available. I tried the pulled pork. And it was really good. Moist and smokey flavored as it should be. I got the cucumber and tomato salad with potato salad. The cucumber salad was great.
