A newer addition that is in downtown but is a bit receded from most of the main street. It's quite atmospheric and has indoor and outdoor seating. Google calls it "American" cuisine, which is basically the one cuisine I don't do, but this place does offer some nice vegetarian options. Wanting to save some room for my food tour, I got a salad with a veggie skewer on top, but I did indulge in some lentil fritters. Fried bean paste is always a winner (technically lentils are not beans). The fritters were savory and the clash between their freshly fried texture and the cool dill-flavored dipping sauce and mixed pickled vegetables was quite robust. My salad delivered the promised crunch, and the shiitake shishito kabob had a wide variety of freshly barbecued vegetables, but unlike my appetizer this dish was missing an extra flavor touch. We walked up on this place looking for something else and took a chance. What a great decision. My friend and I shared 3 things. We shared the Irish coffee (perfect on a icy cold day), chili soup (its soup...not thick chili) and the platter with steak rice and beans and slaw! It was perfection. Tasty, warm in the tummy and lots of good flavors. Service was very good, wait staff was attentive and gave good input when asked. Definitely recommend this little spot. I was looking for a light meal (well, sans the cheesecake for dessert) after a day of travel. I needed a gluten free entree so the greens plus GF fried chicken seemed like a good choice. The chicken was hot and crispy, definitely made fresh. They were interesting pieces, but I didn't mind not having to content either bones and the like. I can't say the salad paired well with it, but the other option was shrimp which also didn't sound great on a bed of greens. The other veggies weren't super fresh either. The jalapeño dressing was lack luster - maybe if I had gone with the ranch it would've had a more bold or familiar flavor. The dessert was a to-go option and I'm not sure whether it was made in house. Whatever the case, it was truly fantastic. I'm not a cheesecake connoisseur but I've had bad cheesecake so I know the difference. This was beautifully balanced with a touch of savory with the sweet and the texture was dense yet light, in the way only cheesecake can be. The caramel was subtle and the chocolate seemed to be bitter or very dark, which I'd don't mind given the sweetened toasted coconut crust (sooo lovely - great idea for a GF cheesecake). I'd say the dessert made the stop worth it but otherwise wasn't super impressed by the salad & fried chicken. Would suggest another hearty menu item to anyone looking to dine here. After parking downtown Asheville then walking around for 30 minutes looking for a place to eat, we stumbled upon Water Street that just so happened to be right in front of where we parked. This experience could not have been better. It was around 2pm on a Sunday and we had an entire side of the restaurant to ourselves. So much privacy and the atmosphere was adorable and so cozy. I forget the exact type of music playing but it was relaxing and just loved everything about it. The outside of the restaurant is what initially caught my eye because there were tons of hanging plants and it looked so cool - would love to come back and eat outside on a nicer day. It was raining outside and cold so I ordered the soup of the day which was Clam Chowder. I usually don't order clam chowder but I'm so happy I did because it was perfect, warm, and tasted amazing. I got full so it was the perfect amount. My bf got the Steak Night which included two flank steak skewers, creamed kale, and mac & cheese. I tried a bite of all of it and loved everything, especially the mac and cheese. Our waitress checked on us very often but we had everything we needed from the start so we did not need much else. My boyfriend said that I always ask a ton of questions about the menu before ordering and he always loves to observe if the waiter is getting annoyed with my questions or not lol. But he said as he observed, she seemed so happy to answer everything and excited to help. Our waitress also noticed that I was taking a ton of pictures and she mentioned that she was thrilled because Water Street is super new to downtown Asheville and she's happy that it's getting good attention. Next time we are in Asheville, as much as I want to try new places, it's going to be hard not to pay this place another visit because I truly loved everything about it! read more

Went here on a whim on a chilly winter evening and was very pleased! We ordered the hott totts, deviled eggs, golden beet salad, and grit cakes. Everything was delicious! This place is excellent! The meat skewers are tender and tasty. The grits are creamy and delicious. The GF Mac and cheese is the best (my kids and hubby prefer it over the glutenous option). Went for our first meal on a girls trip and spent the rest of the weekend talking about how great our experience was. Our server, Petra, was an absolute doll as was the bartender. The food was amazing (I mean amazing), drinks were delicious and the bill was more than reasonable. We had squash casserole, loaded tater tots, BBQ chicken and steak skewers all was delicious. Finally had a chance to check this place out after hearing many recommendations for it. It is a very interesting and attractive spot, right downtown, with indoor/outdoor dining areas. The service was very friendly and efficient. Most importantly, the food was so delicious!! We tried all 3 kebabs (chicken, steak, and veggies) and all were cooked to perfection-charred but not overdone. Also, there are many great options for side dishes which are actually healthy and delicious-not the filler junk you have to settle for at so many other places. We ordered the squash casserole, Mac-n-cheese, as well as the wonderful Butternut squash soup! We were delighted with our lunch and look forward to trying out the other menu items!
