Awesome food! We stopped by while camping in the area. It was the closest place serving hot food and it did not disappoint. Crunchwraps were perfect. I was a little jealous of my daughter's chicken tenders. They looked super crispy and juicy with a ton of seasoning in the light batter. The fella who prepared everything was a one man operation at the time but he handled our 6 person order very quickly. Definitely check them out if anywhere near Asheville or heading to Mt Pisgah.

I had heard of it from Doc Brown, of Doc Brown's BBQ food truck fame. He spent much time describing just how amazing this little taco truck in front of the Dollar General super market was. After working a wedding, I just happened to drive by the place and decided to stop in. There's a hand written menu outside of the little trailer, a couple of chairs, and an umbrella to keep you shaded while you order and eat. I decided on 3 tacos, al pastor, carne asada, and lengua (sup, I like tongue). At $2 a pop the price is right! They had a couple of other items as well, including a spiced pork in flour tortilla and something that sounded a lot like a mexican huarache, but was different and called a tlacoyo.... which I'm not even going to try to pronounce. My order was taken by what I assume was the mother of the family that operates this lovely little spot. My tacos were up super quickly. I can't say for certain... but I think that the tortillas are hand made. Either there, or somewhere close by. They were ultra fresh, and had that slightly imperfect edge. The tacos were served with roasted onion, grilled napoles, and their red and green hot sauces, which both packed a spicy punch. The carne asada was pretty good. Not the explosion of awesome I was hoping for... I was anxious. I wanted this place to kick ass. Looking at my other two tacos I was hesitant to try them. What if they weren't as good as I was hoping for? I bit into the lengua taco and my fears subsided. This is fucking great I thought to myself. Thank goodness. I consumed it with voracious zeal. The Al Pastor was next and the best of the three. The PERFECT balance of spices, carmelization, and just a hint of pineapple. Wow. For 6 bucks this might be the best deal in town. The hours are a bit whacky, I was told they're open Thursday - Sunday from 6 til 11. I'm going to make it a point to be a regular here.

We loved the three styles of ribs and the brisket--they were all incredible. The sides were just as good, especially the coleslaw, baked beans, and cornbread. It's real, comforting food done right. Krista was wonderful--super friendly and made the whole experience even better. We finished with banana bread pudding and sweet tea, which were the perfect ending. Absolutely loved it. I'm very glad I stopped by, it was a quiet mid-afternoon. Service was as quick as I've had, I was in and out with lunch in no more than five minutes. I tried a pulled pork plate with macaroni salad, potato salad and cornbread, and two spare ribs. The cornbread was moist and very tasty with a hint of sweetness. The pulled pork was slightly dry and needed salt, but once salted and dosed with their house-made bbq sauce it made for a great lunch. The potato salad was great, very creamy with a little crunch and tang from red onion. The macaroni salad was OK, a bit bland. The ribs were the high point of the meal. Very large, meaty, juicy, tender. They did need just a touch of salt. All-in-all a very satisfying lunch. It won't be another two years before I'm back.
