It was about time we gave Doc B's a try since our friends in Ft. Lauderdale visit that one all the time. We were looking for an easy, early Sunday dinner a short walk from our hotel and were very happy to find this place nearby. The restaurant was just picking up and we were fortunate to grab a sit at a high top in the bar ovelooking the outside patio. The bartender attentive and efficient as she waited on us while also preparing drinks for the dining room servers. We had a great experience here while on summer vacation. Upon arrival it was extremely busy. I let them know that we had a reservation, but they couldn't find it. Turns out that I completely messed up and made a reservation at the wrong location. The hostess, Jada, took care of us anyway despite the restaurant being sold out. We only had to wait 15, minutes, and Jada came through with a table. Once seated, our server, Gabe, did a great job. The artichoke, burger and salad that I had was wonderful. 1/2 off bottle of wine Wednesday...awesome! Stopped for a quick lunch on a recommendation from the hotel front desk. Pretty nice menu. Because we needed to be "quick" we stuck with the appetizer menu. We had chicken littles and fries and the chimichurri wings (on the waitstaff's recommendation) with a side of fries and garlic aioli. Both were excellent. The fries were killer with the aioli and the "Cajun" sauce. We had drinks as well. Fair warning, the pour was heavy. Smallish place. But nice vibe. A relaxing and friendly atmosphere is the first thing we noted at Doc B's on Walton in the Gold Coast area. We sat at the bar as we wanted to watch the NBA playoff game that was on TV. They changed channels for us, which we were very grateful for. We started with a wonderful dish of guacamole with sweet potato chips. The tasty guac was a little different than usual as it had corn in it, but still very good. My wife opted for the Knife and Fork Cobb salad with a nice piece of crispy chicken next to it. The salad itself was very good and the chicken was excellent. My Buffalo Chicken sandwich was good. Accompanying the sandwich was an excellent homemade coleslaw, one of the best I have ever had. The service was good, our food came out quickly. While the bar service was good, as a former bar manager at a large establishment, we always asked if somebody was finished with their drink if there was anything at all left in it before we would take it. My Bloody Mary and a glass of wine both had small amounts still in the glass when they were snatched from us. We do look forward to coming back and trying some other menu items. read more

Gold Coast Chicago can be pretty commercial with all of it's clothing stores and beautifully clean street so I was pleasantly surprised to find the food here at Doc B's. Vibe wise, Doc B's is great for going alone and groups. The music in the background and feeling of the restaurant and bar make it really comfortable to sit at and hang out with some drinks and food. To talk about the food, we ordered a variety of dishes from shrimp cocktails to carnitas sandwiches to quinoa salad. Overall, the portions are great and I was happy with them which doesn't happen much. Everything tastes really fresh and it comes out pretty quickly. Lets just say, I walked past this place several times a week from their parking garage, after a couple months I finally stopped in an hour ago to try their food. Prices for the gold coast/mag. mile are not "that" expensive like some people are claiming in the negative reviews. As a matter of fact, if I expect to pay less than 30 dollar for a meal half the quality of this in this area, I would have to be crazy. Guess what? With tax, I paid just under 30 bucks for the marinated chicken recommended to me by one of the friendly hosts. When I brought the marinated chicken kebab home. It all started with flavorful zing that woke up my taste buds, followed by a burst of rich cilantro after taste that begs you to eat more. The tzatziki sauce in addition to it was a strange, yet somehow perfect combination. The white rice that came with it also had a cilantro and trace of sweetness that kept me smiling. Oh, and the broccoli seemed to still be moist, even though it was partly cooked well on a pan. I don't know how they did it. But it makes me want to take a cooking course from that chef to learn how they pulled it off. A waiter, Marlin (if I spelled that right), asked what I was waiting for, but I was not waiting longer than 15 minutes. He insisted that he would step back into the kitchen to see what where my order was. He also let me know that their next door valet is validated, another fantastic addition to the experience. The view of the kitchen was open and observable for all guests to behold. Like a design from Gordon Ramsey personal architect. The atmosphere and design of this place is simple, yet brilliant. You enter the restaurant from the left, greeted by warm hosts (and a heater above the entrance), a bar to your right and a long way of tables before the kitchen which is elevated to let you know who is actually running the show. The pride it must have taken the owners to develop a place like this is extremely commendable and definitely just as pricey. Yet, I would not doubt it is equally returned in reward. I have absolutely no affiliation with this restaurant and my only regret is that I didn't walk in to learn about Doc B's sooner. Bravo! read more

I rarely leave reviews but felt compelled to share this experience. I walked into the restaurant around 8:45 PM with my girlfriend. Neither of us had been drinking heavily; each of us had one glass of wine earlier in the evening, and not at this location. I approached the bar calmly and respectfully to order a drink but was flatly refused without explanation. I had not said anything inappropriate, was not intoxicated, and had barely spoken a word. Confused, I asked to speak with a manager. He came over and acknowledged there was no visible reason for the bartender to deny me service but still refused to intervene, saying it was "up to the bartender." Even more troubling, the limited context the bartender did provide did not suggest any signs of intoxication whatsoever. It was simply a flat refusal with no justification. As the only Black patron I saw in the entire space, I could not help but wonder if something deeper was at play. The whole exchange felt discriminatory and demeaning. No customer should be denied service without cause. read more

I have frequented both Doc B locations in Chicago since 2015. I currently live in Austin and I still enjoy Doc B's. However, after my experience at this location today, it might be my last. While in town for business, I was starving and since I am 2 blocks from Doc B's on Walton, I placed an order for my go to meal...chicken wok out bowl with sesame sauce on the side. 25 minutes later, my food was delivered to my hotel lukewarm and minus any sauce, napkins or silverware! I immediately called and initially, the hostess tried to blame Door Dash until l reminded her, that they are in charge of making sure that the orders are correct; delivery companies just pick up the orders. I was then told she could only refund me via the DoorDash app although I preferred a delivery of a hot meal, which I clearly was not going to get. I ordered the black bean burger and then saw the Brussels sprout salad come Out to a table Next to me. A server that walked past me I asked her what it was and she said I can add it to your order or switch if you'd like. I asked to add it because I was so hungry. It came so fast with the rest of our order. The Brussel sprout salad: I started to eat and couldn't stop, it is super rich, creamy and the Marcona almonds are broken ever so perfectly giving a crunch to the perfectly grated Brussels sprout and kale ( which is usually very hard to swallow). I do not eat cheese and realized quickly there was Parmesan in it. So I had to stop short but that was my in the wrong for not asking what was in the salad. I'm not allergic, I just do not eat cheese. So I will be fine. My suggestion: get it and share it between 2-3 people and get another entree. It's such a rich salad maybe best for sharing. The black bean burger with quinoa topped with teriyaki glaze- I had them omit cheese. The veggie burger itself was very salty. I am betting the cheese helps balance that. I'd say: ask for lettuce on top to decrease the salt taste and a tomato and ask for the glaze on the side or have the garlic dressing swapped with the teriyaki glaze. I gave a 4 star because of the service, cleanliness, speed and location. If you love salty it's perfect but you can have it adjusted in taste by my recs above. read more

We didn't order that much so I wasn't going to write a formal review but the service was so good I had to. We ordered the housemade guacamole, chicken littles and fries, and carnitas sandwich. The guac came with housemade sweet potato chips that were a fresh and tasty twist on a classic. The chicken littles were homemade and quality chicken bites. My mom and I said we wanted to split the carnitas sandwich and they brought it to us cut in half on two separate plates!
