Overall we enjoyed Doc B's on our recent trip to Chicago. While it was much fancier than we expected, prices are kinda mixed...some things seem reasonable, some overpriced. I thought there would be more local taps for being in the heart of downtown Chicago. The buttermilk chicken was a hit at our table, two of us got that and I opted for the number six sandwich which was similar but included the garlic dressing alongside the habanero honey sauce. The buttermilk chicken was a ton of chicken and the sauce was a perfect blend of not too hot, but not too sugary and sweet, which is usually my skepticism when trying honey or sauces that are glazed and not simply straight heat. But let's get to the gem of all of our dishes--the crispy jalapeño potatoes with whatever amazing creamy garlic sauce layered on top--I could go vegetarian for these. Our waiter hyped them up but he was right--just get them, doesn't matter what the surcharge is. This place is within walking distance to the bar atop Hancock center, which made it a hit. People protesting Louis Vuitton down the street which was a comical twist. Our server/bartender Mel was absolutely amazing! She made our whole experience. She was so friendly and attentive. Oven Roasted Chicken Wings were a hit. We asked for them plain amd got the sauce on the side. Their fries are delicious too. Loved them. Usually don't have room for dessert when I go out to eat, but I made an exception for the cinnamon toast crunch cheesecake and LET ME TELL YOU! Another of these Gold Coast places that's overpriced but you can't deny the food is fucking good. Doc B's actually has two locations around here. It has this one on Worth Avenue, a nice little place. Find something for almost everyone. There's things like burgers, rice bowls, and salads. First time here and we weren't sure if it would be fancy. It certainly looks pretty nice inside but it's pretty casual and more like a bar with a much better menu. The prices make it seem like it's fancy though. Be careful. You could spend some big bucks here. As a result we took it easy on the drinks. Only some domestic bottles for us. It has a few vegetarian choices. There's not a lot but it has something. I got a Wok Out Bowl, and she did too but with different stuff in it. It's $17, enough said. Whatever's in this isn't worth all that. It has your choice of protein. We each got tofu. Next you choose grains. She had brown rice and I had quinoa. It also comes with a sauce choice. The best one is the Sweet And Spicy Thai. Broccoli, carrots, cashews, and mushrooms are among the vegetables in the bowls. These aren't real big but they pack these about full. Good place for those who like wok bowls. It has many ingredients you choose including the proteins. The prices are high but you get good Asian fusion and it's actually kind of a lot in these. read more

Solid food and great service. The outdoor seating was a bit small but a great place to eat since it's mostly shaded by the buildings on the street and the street isn't too loud. I had the chicken wok out bowl. The teriyaki sauce was flavorful and not too sweet, and the vegetables were super crunchy. The chicken had a nice smokiness to it. My only complaint is that it was a bit oily but otherwise a great dish if you're looking for something on the lighter side since you can get this with quinoa also. Came across the place by looking at the recommendations on Yelp, and the previous reviews did not disappoint! They have plenty of seating outside for when the weather is great, a bunch of bar seating by enormous windows, and plenty of seating in the back. We visited on a Thursday mid afternoon, and was able to get a tall table seat by the bar. I'd say the restaurant picked up at around 4. They have a large variety of beers on draft and a menu filled with all your American food faves. I think they have a rotating menu of beers they have on tap since I didn't see it listed on the menu. Our server Malina did a great job talking about what they had available and even offered a sample taste. For food I ordered the Turkey burger with a side of sweet potato fries. The turkey burger was sandwiched between a lightly toasted bun, and had the perfect amount of avocado, cheese, and Tortilla strips. The sweet potato fries were crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Yum! My boyfriend ordered the Traditional Burger which he thought came out well, the meat was cooked to the temp he asked for and the patty was juicy. read more

Since a friend & I were going to the Playhouse Theater, we decided to meet at this Gold Coast staple. The restaurant is just steps west of Michigan Avenue so needless to say, it's in a great location. We were seated right away. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with exposed heating ducts and beautifully decorated with various wood and white tiles. The server, Sam H, had greeted us upon arrival. My friend ordered a glass white wine, which she thought it was great. She had ordered the Chicken Sandwich while I ordered the Backyard Burger. Within a few minutes, our meals were delivered. We walked in to find a spectacle of servers running around and the rustic and modern vibes for the decor made it feel like home. I had a late dinner at Doc B's on Walton Street last Thursday and had drafted this review, but an arthritically slow computer put a pin in my plans to finish it. With another location in River North and outposts in Florida, Dallas, and Indianapolis, Doc B's is what I would classify as an upscale casual mini-chain. My experience overall was positive, and it was easy for our group of five to be seated right away, even without dinner reservations, though it probably would have been a different story on the weekend. The menu was easy to scan and features a variety of bowls, soups, and salads, as well as shareable plates/appetizers. I decided to try something different from my usual salad and went with the tofu Wok Out (tm) bowl. I customized my bowl with brown rice and sweet and spicy sauce. The portion was generous, and the fresh vegetables were excellent - the mushrooms especially were cooked to perfection, without being rubbery. I'm pretty sure that I found my new go-to dish from here. Service was efficient, including after we had left the restaurant, when a server flagged us down to return a left-behind umbrella. Great spot for this area, especially when coming in with a group. read more

My wife and I ordered through Doordash two days ago and tried to resolve through Doordash directly. Doordash indicated that our feedback would be shared with the restaurant. She ordered the Brussels Sprout Salad and bit down on a piece of broken glass. She later found a tiny shard in between her teeth. Needless to say, she is a little panicked about what she might have ingested. We were given a $20 credit without any discussion and the situation was marked as resolved in Doordash. I ate the habanero honey drizzled chicken and coleslaw, it was a boneless chicken breast and thigh, it was tasty and not too hot. The coleslaw was fabulous, it was very good and they give you a lot of it. I ordered some sautéed broccoli which was good, it needed some seasoning, but it was good. I was excited thinking i found my new fave meal to DoorDash at least once a week. I had it tonight for the second time and my mouth is burning...WAY too spicy! And ruined the meal for me. To Doc Bs...always go with less spice, you'll please more people. Please don't make it this hot again, it's awful. I'll try this dish once more but if it's too spicy and not sweet & tangy like the first time I had it, I'm out...wont eat there again. It's a shame, because it was an amazing dish the first time. Came here for the first time for my friend's birthday last weekend, and we had a positive experience. We did have a reservation for 11 people though, and we ended up getting seated almost an hour later which sucked, but the manager and everyone at the restaurant was very apologetic and nice, so they gave us on-the-house appetizers. They brought us the grilled California artichokes, shrimp cocktail, and housemade guacamole. Everything was delicious and fresh. When walking in, I was shocked by how small the restaurant was. It was a dimly lit bar, and I like the wooden look of the furniture. It has a very comfortable atmosphere and it wasn't too loud or anything, even with us being a table of 11 people. Our service was great, and the manager helped with our table a lot, too, since he felt bad about the late seating. Everyone seemed to enjoy all the appetizers, and we also all seemed to love our entrées. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, and it was delicious. I didn't get the Bleu cheese dressing on it, but the garlic sauce on it was great, and so were the sweet potato fries I got as my side. We ordered some desserts, too, and my favorite was the cinnamon toast crunch cheesecake. We also had the key lime pie and the gelato cookie sandwiches. Do not come to this establishment. My boyfriend and I went up to the bar to sit and order food because there was a 20 minute wait. It was St. Patrick's day and we were up at 8 am so while we were waiting I laid my head against his shoulder for a second and then got kicked out by the bartender. We weren't even drunk or ordering drinks. They decided to be prejudiced against us and just because of the circumstances of St. Patrick's day and kick out paying customers looking for food. Do not come here if you are looking for food or especially drinks as you will be unreasonably kicked out and berated by the staff. I highly recommend the Streeterville location where they have a better selection of food options and nicer staff. Please do not tip your bartender if he has brown hair and glasses as he might just kick you out without a reason. I will never be coming back to this establishment and encouraging my friends who introduced me to it to not come here. read more

Honestly, I was not that impressed with the food. We started off the with two drinks and my bf likes his and helped me with mine. We had an appetizer that we honestly could not eat. The artichokes are not for everyone and careful not to choke on them. For our main meal we got chicken sandwich and veggie burger. My bf described his chicken sandwich as a little dry and just okay. My veggie burger was okay as well. I'd say a little bit too sweet for my taste. It felt like I was eating a dessert looking a burger. Overall, the spot was just okay. It was not expensive -$105 (20% tip), so that was nice. If I end up going there again, I will probably try the tuna salad or something else. read more

We were looking for an easy, early Sunday dinner a short walk from our hotel and were very happy to find this place nearby. The restaurant was just picking up and we were fortunate to grab a sit at a high top in the bar ovelooking the outside patio. The bartender attentive and efficient as she waited on us while also preparing drinks for the dining room servers. We each had the chicken sandwich that had nice flavor, though the breast was smaller than expected. The chocolate cake was AWESOME! This is one of my favorite Doc B's locations. The service is always fast, the staff is very welcoming and personable, and the food is delicious. I always come here for happy hour and the bar staff are awesome. They always give good wine pours and are helpful with suggestions. There are TVs in the bar area if you are looking to watch sports. My favorite meal is the petite filet with French fries and a side of their famous honey mustard. The filet is under $30 and always tasted great. the fries are my favorite fries, they are savory with a hint of sweet. Sooo good. still sitting in the restaurant as i type this... do not come here unless you want below average service & a server that does not care about your existence. we had a reservation for 12 people at 6:30pm on a sunday night, all 12 of us were seating by 6:45pm which is pretty okay for a big group all traveling separate. no one ordered a drink until everyone was seated the whole table did not get their drink until 7:30 and we did not put in orders until 7:50pm despite being ready to order 15 mins after we sat down. server never came over and never checked on us once after apps or entrees. drinks took over 15 minutes to hit the table. a bunch of us ordered the wok out bowl. sauce lacked all flavor & had no salt. thank god for table salt already set out for us on the table. burgers came with a COLD WAD of SHREDDED cheddar cheese. never seen in my life. picture for reference below. this is coming from an experienced server in an upscale restaurant realm. i am more than understanding of a server being overwhelmed and busy but with their open kitchen, i saw her in the back messing around with coworkers. completely unimpressed and will definitely not come back.
