Looking for seafood in Midtown not my favorite location to find great restaurants , I found Docks Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill. For appetizers, we ordered the fried calamari ($22). The calamari was crispy with a nice crunch and was well-seasoned. As you can see, it came with a generous portion of calamari. For dinner, we ordered the Maine lobster ravioli ($37), which came with six pieces, and the pan-roasted Mediterranean branzino ($40). Both dishes were delicious, but honestly, I wish I had ordered a side dish, such as rice, with the branzino. It wasn't very filling with just the vegetables. I'm used to getting a whole branzino at other seafood restaurants, so this was a little different. I went at 6 PM as a walk-in, and it wasn't very busy. The restaurant is huge and has a great atmosphere. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and will be going back to try other dishes on the menu. read more

I ate at this location last night and found the general food quality, atmosphere and service to be adequate, but certainly not great. I'm offering this review because, unfortunately, the value received was abysmal. I say this because purely on the basis of the exorbitant pricing and the incredibly minute portions. Following are examples: Maximum of 4 ozs of wine - $16 Maximum of 8 ozs of soup - $19 A single piece of salmon, 1.5 inches wide, 2 inches high and a maximum of 4 inches long - $43, Totaling $78 before tax and tip! I consider this combination of pricing and portioning to be rapacious in the extreme. I submit this information for your review and assessment before deciding to eat at any of Dock's locations. Please take notice and be forewarned, if you choose to patronize any of Dock's establishments, this is what you will be confronted with. In case any of you decide to ignore this advice, I'd strongly suggest stopping off for a bite somewhere else before or after doing so. I wish you all fine and fun dining. It has a spacious beautiful interiors. Gets crowded doe happy hours. Staff were fairly polite. Happy hour applies at the bar or tables along the side of the bar. 02/06/26: One of my favorite sea food spot in the city. Had to try their restaurant week menu. As always was not disappointed. This menu was of a creole persuasion. Shrimp appetizer flavorful with a little kick. The sauce and bread from the basket yuuum. Main course blackened swordfish with shrimp etouffe also well done. Fish tender on the inside just needed a bit more flavor which I told the server when he asked. Dessert: Bread pudding with caramelized sauce and ice cream definitely a hit especially as not a big fan of bread pudding. Docks is a standard Midtown hang. Great restaurant with different many options even for the picky eaters. The bake clam casino was such a treat and a defiant most try. The steak and potatoes was delicious with the right amount of seasoning and cooked to the perfect temperature. Great happy hour, but it gets so crowded by the bar. If you manage to get a seat, be prepared to have people yelling in your ear or reaching over you constantly. The bartenders are great and make sure you're taken care of even though they're hustling during prime hours. I like that they have both food and drinks on their happy hour menu. read more

Docks is a classic in midtown and it's been around for a long time. I don't get why this place has such bad reviews but as a native New Yorker, this is a trusted and consistent place. Stopped by for dinner on a Friday night. The host was a bit standoffish and made us awkwardly stand there despite having reservations. A simple hello would have been nice.. but our waiter Kevin was super accommodating and took great care of us. We ordered 2 items from their specials -seafood linguine and the pan roasted dover sole. We also ordered the chicken and sides of fries and bok choy. +linguine: excellent and maybe my favorite. We requested a white sauce and it came with breadcrumbs on a crema sauce. +dover sole: filleted table side and roasted to perfection. +fries: needs no explanation. Parmesan truffle fries? Mind blown. For about 15 years I worked in Midtown East and there was a certain comfort in knowing what businesses I had available to me in the area. In the pre-COVID era restaurants, delis and other eateries thrived thanks to the many office buildings nearby (including my own). However, once COVID hit, the area was devastated and virtually *every* business I used to go to regularly closed their doors one by one. One place remains however: Docks Oyster Bar! This bar/restaurant was a staple not only in my regular rotation but also with folks who live and work in the area. The Happy Hour (which has the same prices as my last review update) is a huge bargain for Midtown Manhattan. I mean, $1.50 oysters that are fresh and tasty? That's a big deal. The other items on the menu seem to be about the same price as well. The drinks on the Happy Hour menu have gone up a bit in price by a dollar or two (if memory serves) but still very reasonable given the quality and the area. The interior of the restaurant has not changed in all these years, and that's a good thing. The Art Deco inspired interior is beautiful and welcoming. It's perfect for a date, a business dinner or just hanging out with friends. It was a pleasure to visit Docks again and I hope to do so again before the year is out. read more

Good restaurant in midtown with a lot of space that allows you to walk in or get a last minute reservation relatively easily. Pretty broad menu. Covers a lot of different food groups. As the name suggests, very forward with seafood offerings. Our server was a little tough to work with. She was trying to rush us a bit even though the restaurant was nearly empty on a Sunday night. Also spoke broken English, which made translating some things more difficult. We did a big group dinner and got to try a lot on the menu: Caesar salad: lacked dressing Lobster kimchi rice: very good. Best thing we had. 100% recommend Arugula salad: non memorable Prime rib sandwich: didn't try, but I heard it was only ok. The horseradish sauce was good, but didn't have much zip to it Swordfish fillet: small portion but understood it was very good. Didn't try it though Tuna: tasty but an incredibly small portion. We stop to Docks annually after holiday sight seeing. It was a Christmas miracle finding three consecutive bar seats. The happy hour draws a crowd and we ordered several items, oysters of course, and a Lion King roll. The special touch of torching the outside salmon brings a light smoky flavor to the roll. We struggled getting the tab, which is stressful when you have to catch a train at Penn. I would recommend asking to settle the check well before your planned departure. read more

Docks has been around for a long time, nearly 40 years and the decor has not changed. I love that. The art deco look and large dining room is welcoming and comforting. The large Oyster bar is always full and festive. If you want oysters and clams, you going to want to come for their happy hour at the bar...otherwise you are going to pay a hefty price at the table...The staff here is really great. Our current server, Mary, was WONDERFUL. Friendly, knowledgable...and just made our evening that much better. But, you may be wondering why only 3 stars...I've been to this restaurant many times over the years and one thing that HAS changed is the menu...there used to be more choices of FISH...and more ways it was prepared. The smaller menu, while more practical, was a bit disappointing. But, the fish and seafood they use is still top quality and fresh. I have to say...the meal itself was just okay. It began with a breadbasket of COLD bread. Like from the fridge cold. Not the best start. We began with the Grilled Spanish Octopus which was served with some nicely dressed watercress and a romesco sauce. As you can see from the picture, there was so much watercress on top, you wouldn't know there was a nice octopus dish underneath...as in the second picture. I expect better plating at this level. We also order a sashimi platter...super fresh fish...but served with bit of salad...Docks is NOT a sushi place and their lack of skill at presenting sashimi and properly cutting the fish shows, Way too thick...but...all of the fish was fresh and delicious. We also had the seared tuna. PERFECTLY cooked rare as I requested, but with ZERO seasoning. The accompanying vegetable side, was the best thing we ate, Fennel puree roasted cauliflower, carrots, kale, presented beautifully and nicely seasoned. I have been here several times! It's a good vibes from when you walk in. The white tablecloths and napkins and tables setting and huge sunflowers bouquets, that I thought were real, but are not. They real should use fresh in my opinion. But the flowers add the splash of color. I usually sit at the bar because they have an awesome happy hour. But last night family treated me to a belated birthday dinner and it is restaurant week. We sat at a table for dinner and were still able to still get happy hour prices. We were immediately brought bread and water. Our waitress, Mary, took our drink orders and delivered in minutes. I had the seafood gumbo. You could see some shrimp and veggies. It was delicious, I used the bread to wipe the bowl. I then had the blackened cod, perfectly cooked with a perfect amount of spice. And the strawberry shortcake, made with a homemade biscuit was nice, not too sweet and not too much and enough for sharing. Also tasted the fish and chips. It was good. They seasoned the batter, not everyone does. The fried shrimp appetizer is always a favorite. The bok choy with mushroom also had a great Asian flavor. Definitely returning! Came here for happy hour and it was packed! While they do have good happy hour oyster pricing, we weren't a fan of the type of oysters they served that day. Also, this may have been one of the only times I've sent wine back. The Palomas were also just ok. Every time I'm in town in find myself at Docks, sitting at the bar & having an amazing feast. I like to start with some Irish Coffees when they open at 11.30 am. Then I graze thru the menu of the freshest seafood. Today was the sashimi platter, which followed the Baked Clams Casino ... like Oysters Rockefeller but with clams. Had a reservation And when we arrive, we are immediately seated, even though they've been hit with a large party they were able to pivot and made us feel quite comfortable. The ambience is nice and open and a little loud. The volume was fine as it allowed you to talk knowing that no one else could hear you. The service staff was prompt, efficient, and well knowledgeable. The food was quite delicious and very fresh. I don't know what more could be asked for next time. The place is massive and can be a bit loud. The bar area gets crowded during happy hour. They have a private room too if needed. For dinner I had the beet salad which was a light start to the meal. Sushi is overpriced for what you get. Other seafood entrees were okay, but not that memorable. Service: Fair. The workers who collect dishes show up more frequently than the waiter/waitress. Tables near me were getting angsty because of how infrequent the waitress would come to their area. Vibe: Friday and Saturday nights will have live music in the evening from 6-9p. I ordered smoked Oysters Rockefeller, an appetizer from the regular menu and a shrimp appetizer featured on the happy hour menu. The shellfish was very fresh, but lacked seasoning/salt/something. The smoked flavor came through with the oysters Rockefeller, but that's about it. Kind of bland. The shrimp were battered and had an aïoli on it that was supposed to be spicy. The shrimp and or the batter needed seasoning because they were lacking flavor. I asked the bartender for hot sauce, which he kindly obliged. That added some kind of a kick, but other than that, blah. I walked into this place alone in the middle of the day on what happened to be my birthday. I just wanted oysters and called to make sure they had chargrilled. Once I arrived I was blatantly ignored by the entire staff. I walked around to see if maybe they were just busy. They proceeded to look at me and just completely ignore my presence.
