Knocks include a still obnoxiously loud cabin and lack of torque when down low on the rev range . After looking into buying a Subaru for several years, we were finally ready to pull the trigger. We came across a beautiful used Forester online and rushed in to see it first. Merica was our salesperson and she was a delight. Very patient, informed and not pushy at all, which is a rarity in the car-buying world. She had the car ready and waiting for us when we arrived and it had been freshly detailed and looked as good as new. The dealership itself is quite clean and spacious, as is the lot itself. I came into this dealership with my wife because we're in the market for a new car, initially wanting to check out a new Forester. Then we got to the dealership and couldn't take my eyes off the brand spanking new, loaded WRX. We sat in it for a bit, checked out the interior, then went back to the Forester to check it out. Both great cars. The environment there was very low pressure, no sales people hoovering over you. A sales rep came up to us at one point to ask if we had any questions and we said we were just looking and he took the cue to let us be. We left after that to go to the gym nearby, and afterwards I said to my wife "let's go ask if we can take that WRX for a test drive!" She laughed and said ok so back we went. I sought out the first guy who asked us if we had any questions - Sebastian - and asked if we could take the car out for a spin, and it was super easy with minimal paperwork and Sebastian came along for the ride. We drove around a bit with Sebastian pointing out features and specs, which I barely heard, because WRX! I opened it up a few times, but didn't get too crazy, and Sebastian was cool with it. I also lurched a couple of times because it was my first time driving a manual transmission in about 16 years. We'll likely be back to buy the car once our finances are in order, but the whole experience was chill and hassle free, and I got a follow-up email from Sebastian thanking us and just asking us to get in touch with him when we're ready to move forward. All in all, a nice experience with no pressure. Once we've actually bought the car and brought it home I'll see if our opinion of this dealership remains the same. read more

This place is a joke! Walked in here wanting to test drive the WRX or the STI and discuss lease options. Looked around the barren showroom for about 15 minutes before someone came over. This salesperson had a very poor command of English and had a very thick accent, which made it that much more difficult to understand. Although not having to deal with a language barrier when negotiating the price of a car would be a plus, it's not such a deal breaker. The conversation that followed was a deal breaker though. This is how the exchange went: Salesperson: "Hi, are you helped?" Me: "No, actually I'm interested in the WRX 5-door or the STI, may I test drive one?" SP: "We don't test drive cars. Company policy" Me: "Really? That's extremely bizarre... how do you sell cars without doing test drives?" SP: "Oh, you order, get car and you drive. Like me, I order STI, get car and drive..." Me: "Okay then, see you later!" I don't know if it was the language barrier (if it was, how does this guy sell cars for a living?) or if he just didn't want me test driving it because I looked young (don't STIs attract mainly 20 and 30 somethings?)... regardless I call BS on his response because no dealership will sell a vehicle if they don't offer test drives. I walked out after his response because A) if he did not understand my initial request then there is no way in hell I'm discussing finances with this guy who apparently cannot even hold down a simple conversation B) if he did not want me to test drive for whatever reason, he straight up lied to my face. I really want to give this place a zero-star but yelp won't let me. What a pity... I guess he did recognize that there was someone looking at cars in an empty showroom after 15+ minutes! read more

Listen to the interactions while in the service lineup. They are always trying to upsell everybody. When my Outback went off warranty they told me my tuneup would be $1000 and that I needed new brakes. I went to my neighbourhood mechanic and the full bill for complete tuneup was $279 and they said no brakes were needed. The front brakes were a little worn and didn't need work for another year. Save your money! Go somewhere, anywhere else!!! read more

Went here with my girlfriend to look at a pre-owner Forester. Everyone we talked to was helpful and willing to answer any of our questions and did not put pressure on us. Long story short we bought a Forester that was a few years old with low km's. This was my first time buying a car from a dealership and after getting burned from liars on Craigslist with no culpability a few times I now see excellent value in dealing with a very reputable company like Docksteader. We're very happy with the car and I would recommend to anyone interested in a Subaru to go talk to these folks. read more

If you want to know how it feels to be invisible, this is it! We were in the showroom for more than 10 mins and not a greeting from anyone. The sales floor was empty except us. Their Subaru division actually 'took over' the old Volvo showroom a while back and the place's a bit brighter than their previous location. But staff attentiveness remains the same, which is basically non-existent. However, we did purchase two vehicles from this dealership previously due to its location, but i guess to them customer loyalty is worth nothing more than a grain of salt. Very disappointed. Customers are in the showroom for 15-20 mins. Some sales are just standing there doing nothing. They know you are there. They screw up on jobs and when you go back to fix their mistakes they charge you again with no mercy. No mercy on customers. Never go there for oil change or anything else. I initially gave a sour review of this place during my first visit to test drive a car. The GM of the place read my review and reached out to me. I decided to give them another chance today as out of a coincidence, I arrived and the place was having a sale. I spoke to Sandro, Sebastien and Lloyd and I was treated with priority and very well by these folks. These guys seem to actually love cars and are enthusiasts themselves - great to see that they love what they sell. The dealership seemed more like a home that customers can arrive and be comfortable at and chat about all things related to cars. Other dealerships just don't have this. I was happy with the quoted price for a new car and ended up purchasing today. The finance department also worked very fast and I found out i was approved for credit within literally 10 minutes. I would highly recommend that you come here if you are looking for a Subaru for your next purchase. If you know what car, color and trim you want, you'll be in and out quickly. Also, the storage lot is huge in the back. They'll probably have the model and color you want in stock. He then offered me a USED WRX STI to test drive, which were VERY DIFFERENT. his words:"we lost a lof sales because of this policy" YES YOU DID, i purchased it from Subaru Bby. Booked an oil change online and was quoted $140 via their online service - when I arrived at the dealership I was told the oil change I booked would cost me $260 for an A-Service Oil Change. Picked up my car with a bill totalling over $400.00 (full inspection was completed and my car was in perfect condition - so how they so drastically mis-quoted my service, I have no idea). $200.00 of the bill was labour. Absolutely ridiculous pricing - will not be coming back to the dealership for any oil changes in the future. Also - $400.00+ later and they didn't even wash my car. I have never dealt with a dealership that doesn't wash the car with a service. read more

Moved up my price to their last offer eventually but told me they never offered that price. Disappointing negotiations and a waste of time. Heard from friends that nothing good has been heard of this dealership just as the reviews say. If your going to bargain a price with this dealership you can forget it. The car's cup holder was also broken and could not close. Nothing was mentioned in the ad or description of the car. Told the salesman and he did not comment on the problem... 2015 forester 66,000 km was serviced in March 2017 including oil change. October 2017 the oil level is below minimum and the oil is black. The service adviser rudely said to put oil in (no help with type or synthetic ?), and didn't ask if it had been changed.( he already knew). i do not trust anything they say, and they are aggressive and rude for a reason. i suspect this happens a lot where the customer is charged for services not provided. read more

I went here to service my Subaru and to have my summer tires installed, and have rarely experienced such poor service ever, let alone at a dealership where they are meant to treat you like a valued lifetime customer. In fairness, I was missing a part that they needed to install my tires... But I outlined to them that I was unfamiliar with what they were talking about, and would be happy to pay for whatever part necessary and the time to find the part. Not only did they refuse to help, but their mechanic actually hung up on me while I was trying to find out what I would have to order (myself) from a parts provider. I was told after a third call that my issues with the department would be shared with the service department manager, but to this day I am waiting on a phone call or an apology. I will never go back here again, and I'd advise that if you want better service, go to another dealership. read more

I just purchased a volvo from Don Docksteader. I couldn't be more impressed with their customer service. There was an issue with an extra detailing package I purchased and they agreeded it wasn't done up to proper standard. The case was passed on to Sandro and he has made sure that it was fixed and then added an extra to my car to make up for the hassle. Since then every effort has been made to make sure that I am happy with my purchase, Extra time has been taken to answer all my questions, go on test drives and help with understanding all the new technology. They put my winter tires on wrong, resulting in a flat. I asked for my money back ($130) but they would not reimburse me, despite causing me to miss a day of work. They did at least fix the issue. Service was bad, customer service was even worse. They also put a plate holder on my car without asking. Don't go here. read more

All of the negatives left here are in my opinion, accurate. My family purchased two Imprezas from Docksteader, and found the service department to be especially unsatisfactory (we eventually took our service business elsewhere). In fact, I have to say that my experience with their service manager ranks as the single worst service encounter I've had in my life. We have had better luck with Speciality Motors in North Van, so I'd recommend there if it's a Subaru you must have, but please let me say, after 5 Subarus over 20 years, we are so very done with the brand. They are very expensive to service and maintain, and not near as reliable as they once were, especially the head gaskets on the 2.5 litre engine. read more

One of the worst dealerships I ever had to deal with. Always lying saying I need things to be done, but when I would ask service guys in the back they would say that I'm being taken for a ride. Put the wrong fluid in my transmission and then blamed it on me taking it to be serviced at a random repair shop even though the only place I ever serviced it at was there store. I am a very happy Legacy owner. However it is 23 years old now in perfect condition still but I want some of the more modern additions like back up camera, blind spot monitor, now that we are both getting older! My husband and I went into Docksteader's this afternoon to ask a few questions and check out the Crosstrek and the Impreza. We were there about 25 minutes checked out, three cars including the Forester - no one came near us. Salesmen walked past us, ignored us. I tried to make eye contact with the receptionist but her head was down. Finally, in frustration we walked out. Then a salesman ran after us and called out as we got in our car. Too late - that's not how you treat customers. I phoned another dealership, got the answer to my question about the backup camera. We are going there tomorrow for a test drive and hopefully by the end of the week I will again be a happy Subie owner of a brand new Impreza or Crosstrek. read more

Like Linda, I've owned two Subarus and I love my new one. But I've received much better service buying a $4 coffee at Starbucks then servicing my $40,000 car at Docksteader. They promised one price, then tried not to honour it. Even after they agreed, they then overcharged me at the end of the day and had to re-do the invoice; they failed to call me when my car was ready, despite promising to do so; they charged me for a part which they hadn't installed, without mentioning until the end of the day that it wasn't even available; they were completely unapologetic when I complained. read more

This is a followup of a a posting I made in the fall. Months ago I requested a warranty repair job. Instead I was given an $4000. quote that included the warranty work. When I pointed this out I was told they would do all of the NON warranty work first and if that didn't resolve the problem they would do the warranty work. After consulting an independent mechanic who agreed that was ridiculous, I took the vehicle to a Richmond Subaru dealer who did the warranty work promptly and the car has been running beautifully ever since. Not only did I not have to pay $4000., the Richmond dealership assisted me with alternate transportation and even carried my groceries. They spotted a mistake made by a lube shop that caused an oil leak and burning smell. They fixed it without charge. Docksteader had my car for 6 hours and hadn't even noticed the oil leak problem though I had complained of the smell. The service department at Docksteader is a big scam. Never take your car there unless you enjoy being ripped off. read more

A few people here were asleep at the switch when I came in. Ordered a Volvo part, came in two days later, waited 10 minutes at the parts counter (no one was there). Cashiers three feet away completely ignored me. Finally I CALLED parts on my phone, and after another 5 minutes someone came to the counter. Told him my name, that my part was ready. He went looking for it for another 10 minutes, couldn't find it - turns out it was RIGHT THERE on the counter in front him, and out of my line of vision. Then he told me to "go to that lady over there" pointing in the wrong direction toward the service counter. I said "which lady?" and he pointed to the woman at the cashier's counter, 3 feet away, like she was in another building. So I took my receipt to her and she told me how much it would cost. I told her I had ALREADY PAID for it, so she told me to sign the receipt. Took the part out to my car, and it wasn't the right part, I managed to install it anyway, thanks to Volvo's genius for making their parts interchangeable. But the service here is at best reluctant. read more
