Doc's Diner is everything that a diner should be. You should have this address in mind if you really want to eat like a local in Key Largo. The Italian is excellent, but you cannot beat any of the breakfast dishes. My personal favorite is the crash or train wreck that evokes the days Flagler's railroad stretched down the Keys. The dish consists of home fries topped with corned beef hash, sausage gravy, cheese, and fried eggs. Is it good for you? Debatable. It is a wonderful hot mess. It's what you need for a long day of outdoor activity. Doc's also offers family style breakfast if you have a crowd and don't miss out on the breakfast burrito or pancakes. Last, before you leave, stop to take in the touching mural on the north wall of the United States from the eastern to the western coast. Don't be intimidated by a wait. This American breakfast and brunch place doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it was full, which was a good sign. The staff were friendly and promptly served us coffee. The only thing I didn't like was that they don't let you make substitutions. For example I wanted a meal with pancakes and instead of sausage I wanted turkey sausage, but it was extra to order, not a substitute. So I had to order a plate that already came with turkey sausage (no pancakes), two scrambled eggs with toasted rye, and hash browns. This was a pretty good meal. I tried my friend's French toast, which looked very good but was rather dry. So if you don't expect much of the French toast, this place is decent. Overall a very nice experience. read more

We were in the Keys for a getaway, when I ended up giving myself a chemical burn after using contact disinfectant instead of eye drops. Doc was so nice and came into his optometry office at 8:30 on a Sunday morning! He explained everything and was so kind and patient with us.l We hadn't eaten yet and asked about the restaurant next door named Doc's, to which he explained that he was the Doc in Doc's Diner. By this point we already thought Doc was such an awesome guy, we had to head over to his restaurant. We we so glad we did. Everything was amazing. The food was great, the service even better. Not many places you go to will put drops in your eye as your waiting for your food. LOL We got pancakes, bacon, and eggs. This is our new must go place while in the Keys!!!!
