This is a wonderful spot with lots of outside seating and parking. We sat at a table that felt like it was almost on top of the water, watching the pelicans fish and the sky change colors. The menu had a decent assortment of beers on draft and in bottle, both domestic and imported. The menu was spot on with a lot of great seafood options that highlighted local/ish species such as mahi mahi, grouper, and shrimp. Our server, Kathleen, made us feel very welcomed and efficiently took our orders. Service was prompt and the food hit the spot after a day of sailing in the sun. I had 2 stone crab claws & 3 special oysters on the half shell. I had to wait 20 minutes for the truck to deliver the crab claws. It tasted fresh, presentation was great on ice. They cared. I really enjoyed the floor because it had some glass bottom panels next to the bar near my seat. Dog friendly. LOTS of fish next to the dock, so many! Wow! Thanksgiving day and we were really looking forward to some open air eating in the warmth away from the north-east chill that we were escaping. The hostess was bright and friendly and sat us at a great table with great views of the water straight away. Our server came straight away and got us our drink orders. Always available to clear a plate and bring additional items, it was a symphony of food and service. We took advantage of a special the had on Stone Crab Claws at $7- six of those- check. A dozen oysters with all the fixings- crispy calamari and shrimp. Also some delicious conch fritters, followed up with peel and eat shrimp served hot. Fish fingers for our daughter served with fries. A bar sits central to the whole restaurant and is surrounded by many tables that are nicely spread apart. Boats come up and dock for lunch and the vibe is so chill, you can spend a great while enjoying yourself. We started with a dozen oysters which were pretty decent, even though I prefer Kumamoto. I had the two lobster rolls and my hubby got the mahi tacos. The lobster was plentiful and cold and my hubby enjoyed his jerk tacos. I really enjoyed eating outside on the deck. Impressive restaurant right on the water! We came for our family friend's birthday and had a wonderful meal and experience. We arrived fairly early on Friday evening around 5:15pm. Plenty of seating so we got to pick our table. The outside seating on the water had live music which was a nice touch! Our table ordered a some appetizers and I got to try an oyster for the first time which I enjoyed. We also had calamari which was very tasty! For my main meal, I ordered the blackened mahi mahi sandwich with a side salad. My sandwich came with two large mahi mahi fillets! Very delicious sandwich. My husband had the fried grouper sandwich and gave me a taste and it was also very good. We had key lime pie for dessert and it was very good! Also my first time trying key lime pie! This is a nice, casual restaurant and you can dine right on the water, if there are available tables. Our server was a sweetheart who couldn't have been nicer. I thought the food was fine. We went to town on their fried foods and had no complaints. We tried the calamari and got a heaping portion. The Pilot House Harvey Fish Sandwich (mahi, tomato, cheese, tartar sauce) was very flavorful and filling. The Pilot House Baja Style Tacos were outrageously huge. A nitpicker would say they have no relation to anything in Baja and they were so big, you could hardly pick them up and eat them. A non-nitpicker would say that there was a ton of absolutely delicious shrimp and the flavors were terrific. The Shrimp & Chips platter was a big plate of shrimpy and French fried goodness. The best conch fritters we've ever had and I've eaten them quite a bit. Even the sauce it came was yummy! I took my mom for her bday here and was hoping the food was good. Since, she wanted seafood. They have a pretty gd happy hour; I ordered a rum punch that lacked the makings. So, I then ordered one of their HH lagers; it was from Rhode Island and surprisingly crisp and clean. I ordered Jerk shrimp tacos; the shrimp were huge and tasty. The food temp wasn't as hot as I like. But, the tacos were good. My mom orders the grilled shrimp fajita and deconstructed her meal due to her shrimp being so large. She didn't eat the tortillas and sides for the fajita and had a lovely meal. The rice and beans were really good, as well. The server was okay. But, appeared to not speak English. The manager was helping out our side and he as really gracious and attentive. Delicious food!! The baja tacos are a must try! I got one of each both jerked style and i preferred the shrimp ones personally but the mahi one was also very delicious! Our waitress was very nice and helpful and she helped make sure i was able to get one of each tacos! We even had a nice little visitor (the nurse shark) right next to our table. Not only that but they are pet friendly with many dogs sitting along side their owners outside! Overall i would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking to see some friendly faces and try some really good food!! read more

The restaurant is well situated on the marina. The food was very good. I had the blackened Mahi and French fries. My family had the blackened shrimp and fries, along with a salad. The waitress was nice but seemed overwhelmed with all of the customers even though the restaurant was not overly crowded. It's where the locals go to eat in Key Largo, and to a good degree that is all true. Their menu is rather skimpy but the food they offer is very good. I started off with an appetizer of steamed mussels. The broth was particularly good as enhanced by the inclusion of chorizo sausage and white wine. For my entrée, I went for the pa-seared scallops. The scallops were sea scallops, really large, very tasty, and sided with a delicious roasted red pepper risotto. Being out on the water gives a wonderful ambiance. Asked the server if the chef could do scallops but over pasta and this is what came out. It was 5/5, better than Chef Ramsay scallops!! Discovered this place while driving down the keys & im excited we did. The place has an indoor and outdoor area. It's very nice and clean (even the bathroom). It's kid friendly and they have high chairs if needed. We were seated right away. The service was wonderful from start to finish. Our server was Junior and he was extremely attentive to us. He answered all of our questions and even gave us great recommendations that ended up being good ones ! While we were here there was a thunderstorm and they offered us to move inside if we would like in case my daughter was afraid of the thunder which I thought was very generous and sweet. Junior rounded up on us multiple times to see if we were doing ok. My husband had the grouper sandwich which he said was a great recommendation. I had the bowl with tostones and it was spot on (Cuban approved lol). The cafecito hit the spot too at the end. Thanks Junior. This is our second visit to the Pilot House! Everything we had was fresh and delicious! The menu is a welcome variety of food styles but we always gravitate to their delicious seafood! Sitting outside in the tiki bar area, over looking the water and beautiful boats just soothes the soul. Last time I had the Pilot House Harvey Fish Sandwich, which was just perfect and was clear to see why it was a favorite. This time I had the Crunchy Grouper Sandwich, which did not disappoint! My love had the Mahi Rockefeller Sandwich, rich in flavor and she had the salad with a refreshing vinaigrette dressing. She really enjoyed it so much! We found out from the manager, who frequently walks around chatting with the guests, that if you go to the hostess stand, they will give you some food for the fish. So we sat and fed the Mangrove snapper and Parrot fish. Shortly later, a small Manatee came floating by along with a couple Nurse sharks. It was like being in an aquarium! Apparently, the new management has been making fun changes adding lighting and other decorative things to add to the experience. This truly is a hidden gem so don't miss it! We had not ever been here. Since it's a longtime restaurant of the area (since 1950), I figured we were overdue. We've been by their sign often when dining at the fisheries. We came for dinner. We usually like to sit at the bar and started out doing so. The weather was pleasant. After a few minutes, however, we realized it was way too smoky there - - guess everyone lit up at the same time -- so we decided to move inside. We noticed a couple other people doing the same after us. There was only one other couple sitting inside. We got very good and friendly service. I ordered their conch fritters. They were decent, but a little bit heavily breaded. I ate all the "middle" parts (lol). In addition, I got their crunchy grouper sandwich. I chose sweet potato fries for my side. The fries were excellent and the bread was very good. The fish itself was decent, but here, again, a tad too much breading on the outside. My husband got a couple items from their happy hour menu. Their coconut shrimp had a good sweet dipping sauce. He felt the same way about the breading. Half way through he peeled it off. He said the Happy Hour burger sliders were very good. It came with regular fries. They were just okay. So the overall consensus was that service was very good; and food decent, but not great. I'm glad we tried them. Now we won't be wondering. read more

The pilot House is probably one of the worst restaurants in the keys, which is sad because it used to be one of our better ones, first off it is never open, second off, it has a complete Haitian staff, not very good. If you're looking for good service, the bar the bar could be amazing with the view and the athletics that they have, but staff is slow, absolutely no personality, the food used to be five stars, sadly that is not the case anymore. Anymore they have put a Hispanic spin on almost everything that they make that does not work, seafood dishes need to remain Americanized as they are. You do not need to embellish them with anything from other countries. You only ruin our fish and our seafood, my advice there are many options that are completely way better, do not waste your time nor your money. read more

Stopping at the Pilot House was really just good luck, since my wife and I were on our way back to Miami International and looking for a place to grab a bite just off the highway. You can't get closer to being on the water inside the marina, since anything that fell off of the table on one side would have landed in the water. Great local color and friendly service. I had the Crunchy Grouper Sandwich (recommended by our server) and my wife had the Blackened Shrimp & Chips. Both were well prepared, delicious and the servings were probably more than we needed for a midday meal. Bahamian conch fritters were chock full of conch (with not too much filler) and accompanied by a tasty roasted red pepper aioli. Crunchy grouper sandwich was a belly buster of crunchy fresh fish with pepper Jack and tartar sauce on a hoagie roll. Mahi Mahi sandwich also was very fresh, with an overflowingly large slab of battered fish on a brioche bun. Both plates came with ample seasoned fries, and the organic ketchup is a nice touch. The Key lime pie was solid, although perhaps a tad dense with cream cheese. Although the wine list is basic and lacks any vintage years, there's a good selection of craft draft beers. The food here is always good... specials are usually interesting and the atmosphere conveys the chill keys vibe. Feed the fish from your table with little cups of oats the server will bring and if you have kids they will get a kick out of that! Dock spaces available to pull up on the boat and live music to entertain you, although food is served relatively quick ;) Also, a good spot for large parties. Pilot house is a pretty fail-proof choice for dining and offers enough variety to satisfy all the appetites. Very Very Nice...My sister lives in Key Largo so we visit often and she knows all the local spots, we avoid touristy places. We went for lunch, we had the Crispy Calamari, Crunchy Grouper Sandwiches and Mahi & Chips platter..all good. For dessert, Key Lime Pie and Warm Apple Crumble....personally I loved the Apple Crumble. Great outdoor bar ambiance, we went on a beautiful late January Sunday, another day in paradise. Service was adequate and prices reasonable.
