This little bar in Rochester is one of the best restaurants in the central Vermont area. The staff is incredibly friendly offering outstanding service. The wings (we ordered Thai sesame) need an award. Honestly one of the best wing sauces I ever had along some of the best ranch I ever had. The poutine is made with fresh hand cut fries, and had so many cheese curds, which I LOVED and was gone within minutes. Portions are more than fair with great presentation. I wish I had gotten a picture. There are pool tables, a very beautiful outside porch area with plenty of seating along with plenty of bar seats, and booths. The best part too is that the bar is dog friendly inside and out!!! It has been so challenging to find dog friendly places, no questions asked. We came here after a friends wedding, and the experience and staff was absolutely incredible. They were extremely accommodating (opened early to accommodate a large group), friendly,and organized which made for a lovely Sunday afternoon. RJ is the best she has been there for three years an she remembers everything ya do so watch out how you act. The food hear is great Regina is one of the owners Vincent her husband is a five star cook is the best. This is the best place to take the family for a night out or for a weekend stay. Where do I even start? The food was awful, the service was terrible, and the owner Regina was rude. Hands down the worst burger I have ever had. The waitress asked how I wanted it and I said medium, it was well done. Our appetizer didn't come until the rest of our food got there. We got there at 6 and it wasn't busy at all. It took over 15 minutes to order a drink. I asked for a stout and was told they didn't have any so I ordered something else only to see another customer a few minutes later with a stout. Other members of my group also ordered drinks and they were made incorrectly. Our food took forever to arrive and when it got to the table it was all cold. The restaurant closed at 8 and although we had barely just gotten our food because it took forever to arrive after we ordered, Regina came to our table to tell us they were closed. Love this spot! When it's busy expect to wait a long time for your food, but the fried pickles, wings and burgers you cannot go wrong with. The ambiance is typical dive bar and the owner is always there working very hard to ensure everyone's happy. You definitely want to be patient while you're there but there are plenty of games to play while you wait. I love this spot after a long ski day! read more

My fiancé and I came in here while visiting Rochester on a ski trip. The bartender, Scott, was super knowledgable on beers (of which they had a great selection and many rare brews). The food selection was perfect and we sampled the jalepeno wontons and pork spring rolls- both made fresh in house- so delicious. The decor was very cool too! We had the strangest experience here. Got right in, chose our table, greeted and seated by an owner. We got drinks (my eager husband was looking forward to trying some local brews) and ordered our food - calamari, prosciutto flatbread and shrimp tacos. Food comes, no calamari, but we dig into the tacos (amazing!) and the flatbread (tasty but undercooked). We finished both and sat there waiting. No calamari, no drinks, nothing since food was dropped. Owner/waitress gone completely. We finished, glasses empty for over 20 minutes until the other waitress checked on us and had to see we were irritated. I made sure calamari was not on our tab. We paid and left. If anyone had bothered to come back to our table we would've ordered at least one more app, two more beers and more soda. No dessert was offered but if it was I probably would've gotten that too. A $35 tab could've been $70. A shame. read more

If u visit this establishment w more than 2 guests please check ur bill carefully. They imbed a service charge of 20% (3 line down) and then put the tip line at the bottom. When speaking w the server he said its the owners charge and that if u don't leave a tip he doesn't share in the 20%. We were a party of 6. Stay way. The burger was ok. I think they changed management again here. The menu is very limited, and expensive. The red wine we ordered was cold, as was my soup. I had complained enough, just shut up and ate. Service... not good. We are still waiting for our check. It used to be OK here, won't be back for a very long time. Update- driving home we realized how truly terrible this meal was. Did I mention the cold cabernet? That was $13 a glass. The server kept apologizing but didn't even remove the menus from the table. She got our order wrong, gave my husband a 4 oz. burger instead of the 8oz he'd ordered, and gave me a whole bowl of the (cold) soup instead of a cup. Which came without a spoon, so I got a teaspoon when I asked for one. Our pub dinner bill for two was $120 w/out tip. The fish &chips was pretty good, hence the one star. The worst part of all was having to wait around after we got our check. Enough time to write a terrible review. I came here with some friends and had some appetizers and a bottle of wine and some beer. There are a lot of IPAs on tap, if you like that sort of thing. The beer selection was generally local, which is nice. Bar snacks consist of fried food - cheese curds, wontons, etc. I had French Onion soup which was fine. The service was a little meh. Our server seemed impatient (is that a Vermont thing or maybe my friends are annoying?) and was really not accommodating when a fifth friend joined and wanted to pull up a chair. She said she was blocking the flow of traffic when there was a huge space between the table and the door. It's a bar in a place there aren't many bars. It's 3 stars - A-Ok. It's not vacation in Vermont until you've done a "Shotski" at Docs! This place has its clientele down pat! The atmosphere is warm and inviting to locals and tourists alike! The drinks are strong and with a nice spacious place to play pool we found ourselves here three times over two days! There is a large L shaped bar that is easy to get served, a smoking porch blocked from the wind, and easily accessible bathrooms. Although busy when we arrived there was plenty of room to move around. I'd recommend it if you ever find yourself in this quaint Green Mountain town! read more

Ok so you should not probably expect the food in a tavern in a small, small Vermont town with a couple of places to eat to be so good, but it was amazing. Doc's Tavern and Huntington House Inn have been taken over by new owners and the chef is beyond amazing. Try the Octopus appetizer because you have never tasted octopus that tender. I had the lasagna with short ribs and my wife had fish and chips since the chef is straight out from east London. I am not sure I have tasted better food anywhere including in London, Paris, NYC, LA and NOLA. Wow!!! Also had apple streudel and sticky toffee pudding for dessert that was absolutely spot on. If you have any reason to go to Rochester, Vermont you owe it to yourself to stop here. read more

Well, we didn't go for the Shotski's, actually went for dinner when I was doing work in the Granville area. My girl friends chicken dinner was amazing, potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. This was better food and presentation than some of the finest restaurants I've been. I went for the taco's. Perhaps I should have had some Shotski's before and the experience would have been better. Well, Perhaps some Shotski's and then chasers...then it would have been better. While I might pass on the Mexican Taco's next time, but I won't pass the restaurant. I guess it is a bar, but seemed more like a restaurant to me. Great atmosphere, really a nice place. Waitress was good. Reminded me a bit of Gallagher's in it's heyday. read more

Simply put, I don't think I'll go back here for dinner. Our party was the only one in the place and the food came out at 4 different times, wrong and items were cold. The loaded nachos appetizer was anything but loaded. I should have taken a picture...it was pathetic. The service was terrible and mistakes were made on the bill. Wanted to check out the tavern now that it is open. We went in on a busy Saturday. The food took a long time. The mac and cheese was not to the liking of one of our party. Our waitress tried her best, but she was overloaded. The issue of drink size was also a concern for one of our party (who is use to getting a double tall in a pint glass). It also seemed like there wasn't as much alcohol in the drink as one would expect. The music was also painfully annoying. The choice of genre was not situationally appropriate. They have worked hard to get this place up and running snd i think they did a good job. We look forward to having a nice tavern in Rochester. I think that in time they will be able to smooth out the rough spots and this place will be really good. read more

We came here to sample the local beers while cruising with our classic cars group and were very disappointed. My husband ordered an ale (one of only two on the menu) and was served about 4oz in a glass. For seven dollars. I was also given essentially the same with the pale ale I ordered. Ridiculous prices for next to nothing. Their food was not worth ordering. This is obviously not your classic tavern with good food and value. Go elsewhere, like the Three Penny Tap in Montpelier, if you want to sample local beers. A larger beer menu and far better food. I don't believe I've ever written a recommendation for people to go elsewhere, but it's worth the drive north and you won't be disappointed with a rip off like Doc's. read more

The only thing worthwhile about this place is beyond my comprehension. I have no idea why they're still open. Food is dismal and badly prepared. Silverware was dirty. Unimaginative menu, and rude waitstaff. My husband and I had a very unpleasant experience. The waiter was rude, condescending and insulted our political views by declaring his own. This is not appropriate. Obviously no training has been provided regarding customer relations. A call to the manager resulted in further insult and accusations that we started the confrontation.
