The line for This ride usually isn't very long as it goes quick and fits. A lot of people at once. The ride isn't the biggest thrill you will get at universal but it still pretty fun. I kinda wish it shot you down fast after shooting you up fast but it's something different from the rest of the park. Long time staple of universal for sure. It's a lot more smooth and just an enjoyable view being so far up, rather than a stomach flipper that constantly makes you freak out or whatever. So if you don't like rides like this as much, this is a better one to go on because it's definitely a lot more mild. Only bad thing is it's also a really short ride, after the initial shoot up you just slowly come down and that's it, so it goes really fast. I wouldn't wait for it if there's a long line but if it's a shorter wait I'm more than happy to go on because it's a great ride. read more

Universal's Island of Adventure (Florida) MARVEL SUPER HERO ISLAND pavilion Seeing this ride really got my adrenalin pumping. I loooove this kind of attraction! It's a thrill ride but it's not a roller coaster type of ride. The initial launch blasted us 185 feet into the sky! whoohoo! wheee! From there we were suspended briefly at some crazy height before being gently lowered back to the loading platform bouncing us several times, slowing down each time until we came to a complete stop... as it did this we enjoyed the cool view of the rest of the park. The anticipation of the upward acceleration (as I felt my bottom rise slightly off my seat) was the most thrilling part for me because we never know when that seat is going to take off into the sky! It's nerve wracking and pure adrenaline rush! I absolutely love it! There are no lockers provided in this ride, instead they have a storage bin in the compartment where the ride is located (two on each side of the compartments). Don't worry, other guests will not have access to your stuff while you are on the ride. The only downside to this ride is that it is way too freakin' short. Boo! :( Oh, and don't forget to stop by Kingpin's Arcade when you exit the ride to see Doctor Doom's throne. Short ride with the minimal thrill Like Spiderman and Hulk, this is also at Marvel Superhero Island, inside Islands of Adventure. it is tough to miss with it's huge, 200 ft tall twin towers. for me waiting time was 30 minutes. the anxiety I have waiting for the doors to open to get on is tough. then another eternity waiting for the ride to start once we were in our seats. The initial shot to the top is sudden and somewhat scary, but the ride is almost over at this point. You get a good view of the park, slowly drift back down to Earth, and then wait for your seats to come up initial shot up is the best part. ...otherwise, pass on this one... the ride is very short and is only worth riding if there's little waiting. I would suggest heading here at the start of your day or towards the end of it when wait times are minimal. Dr. Doom's Freefall is actually a ride I really enjoy and I like these kinds of rides - fortunately, I'm lucky because these kinds of rides are hit or miss for many people and that usually ends up in a shorter line. I've never had to wait more than 30 minutes for this ride, and despite being in the front of the park, I usually am able to get on the ride pretty quickly. The ride itself is pretty short -- you shoot up into the sky at ultra-fast speed and you're hanging there. It really comes out of nowhere so don't be alarmed, but I just love that feeling you get when you shoot up like that so I do enjoy the thrill it has. This ride can also be difficult to find as it is located right behind Spiderman in Marvel Land but you'll see the towers so make sure to check it out. And even if you're scared of freefall towers, this one isn't that bad and doesn't go that high so it's definitely worth checking out. read more

Barley any wait. I wouldn't wait more than 15 minutes for this ride, but it's never that long. It gives great views and a great since of anticipation fear. Super short, but it's a walk on most times. You can go on if 4-5 times without waiting at all and that's in the peak of summer. read more

I feel like most of the reviewers dogging Dr. Doom aren't familiar with drop towers or something. Yeah, it's short and yeah, the drops after the initial drop aren't that intense and just diminishing returns. Couldn't you folks tell that stuff from just watching this thing? It's not like it's hidden away like Spiderman or Kong. Honestly, I'm probably somewhere between a 3 and 4 for DDFF but so many reviewers are throwing shade at old Doomy that I'm giving it a 4 just to be contrary. Hell, I'm even calling maleficent metal mug "old Doomy". I myself did not closely watch the drop tower at work, as I wanted myself to be unsure which side hydraulically shoots you up, and which side shoots you down so I could maybe be surprised. (Though it would probably be clearly marked like Power Tower at multiple Cedar Fair parks.) Turns out both sides are of the blast up variety which don't really have the suspense of inching your way skyward and then hanging around at the top for several seconds. Still fun, though. It's a big instantaneous yo yo. The Fearfall was my last ride of the day at IOA and the young lady in charge of boarding almost missed me in the single rider line - I had to speak up - cause Doom was a walk-on anyway. Or it would have been had it not been for a mysteriously long wait that had us moved from one tower to the other, and then left us waiting there in an octagon shaped hallway outside of elevator doors for too long once again. I was just about to make a crack about Dr. Doom's Waiting Corridor of Terror when the doors finally slid open. But hey, these rides are all about the suspense, right? Then we were strapped in, rocketed up, down, up and down and it was over. Yeah, it's not the tallest drop tower, but the City Beautiful sure looked nice from up there and the rush of air felt great, too. It's no Falcon's Fury, but still an adrenaline rush. You do the math and decide how long you're willing to wait for this quickie. It wasn't a bad nightcap for my first visit to a Universal park. read more

Doctor Doom's Fear Fall is located at Marvel Superhero Island, inside Islands of Adventure. It is situated just behind the Spider-Man building, although it is tough to miss with it's huge, 200 ft tall twin spires. The ride's premise is that Doctor Doom needs human fear to power his ultimate weapon, and apparently you've volunteered to have yours sucked out. How best to do that? Get launched 150 feet up in the air in about a second and a half. As a ride, Doctor Doom's Fear Fall is similar to many attractions at other amusement parks. So it has a bit of a been-there-done-that feel. Nevertheless, I still highly recommend it for one reason alone: You get a breathtaking view of the neighborhood. This also amps up Doctor Doom's re-ride appeal, since there are four directions you can face when seated. Fun fact: According to Universal's website, the initial launch at the beginning of the ride uses more thrust than a 747 jet engine and accelerates faster than the space shuttle. Insider tip: From a "scary" point of view, this ride is all bark and no bite. I used to be terrified of these types of rides--I couldn't go on Disney's Tower of Terror until I was an adult. But for this ride, just like Tower of Terror, the anticipation of the launch and drop is 90 percent of the scariness. The actually going up and coming down is only about 10 percent. The wait scares you more than the actual ride! The videos are pretty interesting and the waiting area is alright. There isn't much to keep you entertained (the HP lines were way more fun to look at stuff). The actual ride? Really upsetting because it's ONE drop. And it is not a full drop. Quite disappointing when we got off. I was hoping it'd be more like Disney's Tower of Terror and it wasn't even close. Ugh. Once you get in the elevator type doors open to your seats and they provide cubbies for your things which is good. I didn't know this prior to riding and I wish I would have because I wouldn't have left my stuff in a locker with my husbands stuff as they were riding the Hulk. It would have been nice to have my phone with me. Once on, the ride shoots you up and you are provided of a great view of the park and area from 200 feet up. Then you do some bouncing and that's it. I am overall not a drop tower fan but this one was less scary than others. My son who is a drop tower fan didn't think it was thrilling enough. It was perfect for me. read more

This ride is not that bad. The wait doesn't take that long. There's a/c blowing while you're waiting, so it's not that hot. Don't worry about lockers, before you sit down, you put your stuff on the side. If you are chewing gum, I advise you to spit it out cuz it will come out while you are being drop. This ride is kind of like the Dungeon Drop ride that they used to have at Astroworld -- you're raised up high into the air and then dropped down. However: Only the first 10 seconds of the ride are scary/thrilling. After that, you're kind of just floating up and down in successively smaller thrusts until the ride finally lowers you back down -- not scary anymore but still kind of fun. The first 10 seconds WERE pretty fun, though -- I kind of wanted to ride it a second time just to experience that, but we were tight on time, so I didn't. read more

This is an awesome place to go to whenever you need to cool off on a hot Summer's Day in Universal Studios! There are 3 lines at the entrance of this place; one for Universal Express riders, single-riders (in which groups get separated from each other and do not meet again until they leave the attraction), and the regular line where it gets extremely crowded later in the day. The best part of this particular ride at Universal's Marvel Island is when you are shot up hundreds of feet into the sky, you are provided with a picturesque and scenic view of the entire Universal Studios Orlando Resort, in which this view can also be savored at other rides including Dudley Do-Right's Rip-Saw Falls and briefly at most of the park's roller coasters!! After making it to the top, the platform will quickly drop for 5 seconds and then slowly fall to the ground. The ride lasts for a total of 90-120 seconds. In my personal opinion, it's not the most exciting ride at Universal, but it definitely gives me a thrill. What's awesome about this place is awesome with all the other attractions at Universal: There is an on-site souvenir shop and maybe a café or restaurant inside the attraction! read more

Doctor dooms fearfall I was very excited to get on this ride because I enjoy the sensation of having your stomach feel all types of crazy when on a large drop roller coaster. So I was very hyped of for that type of experience! Sadly what I got from this ride was exactly the opposite! I definitely feel that universal missed it on this ride! Even though the line does not look that long it takes quite a while for them to filter through it to get everyone on the ride! The ride itself is very short i mean it feels like 30 seconds worth of a ride and then you are off of it.... The only thing I liked about it is that you start out in an enclosed environment and then you get shot straight into the air high above the park and you get to see all of universal and islands of adventure. The stomach turning fun I was looking for did not happen. The most feeling I received was when we were shot into the air at a high speed. As you bounced up and down returning to the platform you honestly feel nothing but wind and your legs moving from the shear force of the speed! I personally do not feel the wait is worth the ride at all! I would only ride it again if it was a less then 10 minute wait and maybe I would entertain getting back on. Other then that I would def skip that ride of you only have one day in the park and the lines are long. read more

What was I expecting? Something akin to a freefall ride. Where you up upupupupup, and then you're suddenly dropped down, like a busted elevator that is falling to your death. Your stomach plops up into your ears and just when it falls back to where it's supposed to be, you're taken up again only to plunge down. And by the time you step down from the ride, you're slightly woozy and can't walk straight, like a wino. What I got was this: we hopped into a ride ourselves (you can leave phones and other personal objects right below the ride), your seat is checked by a worked to make sure you're sufficiently buckled in, and then you go upupupup fairly quickly. And then, it drops about halfway down. Then slowlyslowlyslowly goes the other half way down with gentle incremental drops. PROS: -The queue is really neat to get into it. -You can bring your cellphone with you, because there are receptacles right next to the ride where you can drop your stuff off. -The view at the top is nice. -There's a nice rush going up, at least. CONS: -Not worth more than a 5 minute wait. -Only 4 seats per segment, so if you came with a group of friends, you'll have to split up. -Not really what I would describe as a "freefall". While it goes up quickly, it comes down somewhat slowly. -Very brief. About 30 seconds, I would venture to guess. THE VERDICT: I will say two positive things about this ride: the view at the top is really nice, and the elevator doors look cool. Other than that? Soooo not worth more than a 5 minute wait. And even then, now that I've ridden it once I'm not so sure I would ride it again. There are MUCH better rides throughout the park. read more

This was a great ride! I went on single-rider; my friend wouldn't go on it. I didn't expect it to be very thrilling, but I was very wrong! The ride shoots you up almost 20 feet faster than you could say "cheese pizza." I literally screamed, "GET ME OFF OF THIS THING!!!" I was just about two seconds from puking when the ride went down. Compared to the jolt up, the way down was peaceful. There was another drop, slower this time, and the ride was over. I came off shaking It was probably the best drop ride I've ever experienced, but, as I said to my friend, "I will never, ever do that again!" Great ride for what it is. The line for this ride is really fun. Seeing the lair of Dr. Doom is well worth the time you are waiting. Pretty cool ride. One of the better drop towers that I have been on before. I really enjoyed the animated video that you get to watch as you wait to get on the ride. The building theme is pretty cool and goes with Dr. Doom's character really well. Even if you're afraid of heights I think you would be able to enjoy this ride and conquer a little bit of your fears. While I plan on reviewing all the rides my girlfriend and I went on at the park, this is the one I'm choosing to review first to say SKIP IT. Even with the FastPass, it took what seemed like an eternity to get on (just waiting for the doors to open) and then another eternity waiting for the ride to start once we were in our seats. Hello yelp.com, I would like to start this review by stating that I entered Islands of Adventure with high expectations as my previous visits have led to increasingly magical experiences. I would also like to preface my review by stating that I have an irrationally extreme fear of heights. I decided that I will finally conquer my fear of heights by riding this atrocity of a drop tower. :) It began innocently enough with the smoke releasing as soon as we boarded. As I braced myself for impact, my seat exploded up in the air at the speed of a rocket. I was not given enough time to prepare my posture. One moment I'm putting on my harness, next thing I know my neck is broken. I can't turn my neck left or right as I type this insightful review. :( Please, AVOID THIS RIDE AT ALL COSTS!!! Like your typical vertical big shot ride. I love this type of ride, however, it only does the one shot up and down...many places do this multiple times. Fortunately the line was basically as long as the walk that it took to get to the front of the line, as this ride SUCKED. It SUCKED hard. It was a shoot up the tower ride, but that is all it did. No dramatic waiting at the top wondering when you're going to rocket back to Earth. The ride was basically over in 5 seconds. Not even a full ride on a bull is that short.
