Universal Express Pass is accepted for this ride. Their is a minimum height restriction of 51''. You'll have to store all of your loose articles prior to riding this ride! You'll get to select the song you want to hear while you're riding Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit! The climb at a 90-degree angle always gets me on this ride! Then you go for a large drop. This ride is fast! It has so many twists and turns. If you get motion sickness easily, I'd recommend avoiding this ride! Sometimes I get headaches from this ride too. Now this is a roller coaster!! It has all the thrills... a first and second drop that are huge, tons of speed... loops and corkscrews, as well as banks and turns at high velocity. It is a trilling few mins that will have you wanting to just do it again! My 10 year old, my 15year old, my wife and I all loved it! And we rode in the front car. (Best place to be by the way.) After a morning at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, my mom and I felt like riding a rollercoaster outside of Hogsmeade. The line for the Rip Ride Rockit was pretty long (maybe an hour), which is whatever, right? At a theme park, you will wait in some lines. I just didn't think this rollercoaster was worth the wait. It definitely felt pretty jerky to me (mostly side to side in the harness), and it was pretty short. Other than that first sharp drop (which me giggle like mad), the ride was a little bit of a letdown for me given how long we had waited. not something I'd wait too long for again if I was back at Universal Florida in the near future. read more

I always have a headache when I get of of this ride, but it is still too fun not to go on. That 90 degree incline the ride starts off with is absolutely wild. As you are headed literally straight up, it is easy to question what the heck you are doing on the ride. I recently rode it in the front row and let me tell you, I don't need to do that again. Literally at the top of that incline it just looks like there is nothing underneath you, WILD. I do love that you can pick a song and the past two years I've always picked My Chemical Romance, Black Parade-- it absolutely fills my emo loving heart. For this review, we're going back in time to review Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit while it was still alive at Universal Studios Florida. Once you enter the moving platform, you put on the awful Maurer Söhne restraints and chose a song (btw I chose Born to be Wild for my song). We then went up the lift hill. And this has got to be the coolest lift hill ever! You're rising up at a 90 degree angle staring straight at the sky while having music blasting in your ears. It's totally giving me vibes of Hangtime at Knott's and Aftershock at Silverwood! Bad news is, it's all downhill from there :( We then hit the first drop which is pretty average before going into the first non inverting loop. Which should be fun just like on Hangtime. But instead, it HURTS. We get SLAMMED into the restraints unlike on Hangtime which gradually takes us through the inversion. Yeah this is my main grudge with this ride. The layout is decent and it should be about Hangtime's level. But the HORRIFIC trains and the awful restraints make it so you get SLAMMED at every bump and turn! So yeah. Not fun! We then head into a mid-course brake run which slows us down a bit. We then drop down before going into an upward helix. This is okay, but it's not nearly as good as it can be since we're getting slammed to the side as well in a jerky and uncomfortable manner. We then drop down before going into the 2nd mid-course brake run. Yeah, just like Incredicoaster, this has A LOT of them. But this is done to increase the capacity of this coaster so I can forgive them for being there. We then travel straight before making a right turn, followed by a left and then another right turn which isn't fun because of how painful it is. Another drop is followed by the brakes leading into an s-bend/turn which should be fun, but turns into a NASTY element from all the slamming. When then travel into an inclined loop which is fun before entering the fourth mid-course brake run. Finally, we drop back down and goes over a small hill which continues to beat us more before entering the final brake run. This coaster REALLY pisses me off because it could be SO MUCH BETTER THAN IT IS. Just change the restraints and lighten the brakes on the brake run and HOLY CRAP! This ride suddenly turns into a 4-5 star coaster! So why Maurer Söhne? Why did you do this to a potentially kickass ride? Like seriously, this coaster has so much potential yet it's so bad! It's compact, it's got an incredible lifthill, on ride music, it's not too rough, compact layout, impressive looking elements. Yet it sucks! I got off of this thing with a migraine that took me 10 minutes to recover from! Ugh. Well unfortunately, this ride will never see that potential as it is now permanently closed to make way for a new coaster by Intamin. Which, despite my negative review, does bum me out a little since I wanted to give it another chance, but after hearing other enthusiasts talk, I really didn't miss much. And given how GOOD Intamin has gotten lately, yeah, I think its safe to say that the replacement will be an improvement. The Rip Ride Rockit completes my epic trinity of Universal roller coasters. Can you hear the angels singing? Or maybe your stomach dropping due to the pure awesomeness? Hagrid, Mummy, and Rip Ride. My top 3. Rip Ride, let me tell you, is NOT for the faint of heart- this thing fuh-liesssss down the track, and when you first rise up you are literally straight vertical, it makes me tingly and gives me butterflies every single time. Another important thing is the music. Yep, you get to choose from about 20 songs, and you listen to this song during your ride. This is incredibly important, as the appropriate music choice will make or break your whole ride experience. We can't have no highly complicated dub step song with no lyrics. Where's the inspiration in a roller coaster ride with that? (I have absolutely nothing against dub step, it's just not my preference for the ride or in general. Everyone's different) So yeah, be very careful in your song choice, but also don't take too long because if you don't choose fast enough the machine will choose for you, and they are NOT good song pickers. This is just a rocking, hopping, adrenaline-inducing ride! One of the best! read more

I saved the scariest ride in my opinion last. This was the last ride before the park closed. We put our stuff in a free locker, waited in the short express line, and went through a metal detector. Some serious business here, I was already super nervous since it's my first time and I'm not a roller coaster person. Over 21 year old tip: get a few shots in like I did to calm your nerves lol. We waited in a short line and before I knew it, I was strapped in. I picked my song of choice by the band Finger Eleven. The ride started to take us up vertically, my palms were sweating. Never rode a vertical ride before and the anticipation before the drop was killer. I had to close my eyes on the first drop, it was scary but doable. This is one of my favorite roller coaster rides- it's smooth, fast and you can jam out to your own personalized music choice with speakers on each headrest. The staff for this ride are excellent too- I set off the metal detectors thanks to a tracer left in me after a surgery and they wanted a doctor to come out to the ride to clear me- I was flustered and embarrassed and immediately regretted my casual dismissal of the alarm and sent the boys ahead and went outside the ride to wait for them. The ride director found me and offered us skip the line passes for my entire family because of the incident! I was floored. Something most people would never guess about me is just how much social anxiety I have and how easily my day out can go from grand adventure to take me home now. This one employee literally helped save my day out. With my youngest on leave to visit- this was an epic save to me and one I will remember every time I go to these theme parks. Already a fav roller coaster made even better. read more

This ride is one of my favorites, I can't say that for many others though. I love the thrill of going straight up while listing to I will survive (the BEST choice ) then blasting down and being thrown around on a thrilling adventure that is lengthy but never boring. Others though complaine about the sun which is never really a problem for me because I don't mind the sun but I would recommend going on it at night for a shorter line and less sun. Then there is the obvious problem... the roughness. This is one of the toughest rides in the park. It through a your legs and head around immensely. I'm not a big person and the last time I went on my legs were like rag dolls. I couldn't control myself I felt like a fish out of water. It can give you a headache especially if your not feeling well or if your hot. It's a fun ride, but some people cannot handle and it and that makes complete sence. read more

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is one of the two actual roller coasters at Universal Studios (as all the other coasters are in Islands of Adventure) and it's also one of the first rides you'll come across when you're in the park. You can't miss it as you'll see that vertical hill - this ride is fun because you get to really rock it out while riding. At the platform, you'll be prompted to choose a song that you can jam out to during the ride. The list is pretty limited but there are still some bops. Rumor has it they're closing this ride soon for some renovations, so we're hoping that they add some new tunes. The coaster itself is thrilling for sure as you go up a 90-degree hill and fall to a very steep hill and you go through some loops and twists and turns but you won't even know it because you're having so much fun jamming out to your song! They used to film a music video for you which was pretty cool, but my most recent experience - they weren't doing that. Not sure if they stopped that for the renovation but the true experience did cut down a little bit. I hope during the time of their renovation, they can bring it back to the true experience! read more

This ride is easily one of the best that Universal Studios has to offer, but it is NOT for the faint of heart! The Rip Ride Rockit is the only outdoor rollercoaster in the Studios park. To be even more exclusive, you can't find this ride in the Hollywood Universal. This is a very rough coaster. It starts going straight up into the sky, and then whips you around in many directions. I always have tons of fun on this ride, but I like crazy coasters like these. I will admit there are times where it has made me blackout for a few seconds just by the nature of it. One of the coolest parts about this ride is that while the coaster is ascending slowly, you have a little touchpad in front of you where you can select a song to play while you are riding! The lines get crazy long, and I do dislike that. But once again, single rider lines are available and usually don't take too long to go through. They do also have a video playback you can watch/purchase while your riding, but the kiosks were usually out of order every time I would try to find my video. It's hilarious to watch though when it works! read more

Just like the Hulk coaster I was scared to go on this ride. It's more intimidated from the ground but it's a fun unique coaster that you have to go on. I rode it once and as soon as I was over I wanted more so I went on it again. Note: Go on the web and search for the hidden songs before you go in the ride in the queue. Hold down in the logo on the screen when all the lists show and enter the code. At the start you have about 30 seconds to sit down and choose your song. The ride puts you straight into an adrenaline rush with no wait throwing you into a vertical lift. On the either the last or second to last corner, that's where you will feel a lot of g-force to the point where you can't even pick up your head from the headrest. If you ever come at night or stay for when it gets dark out. The coasters have flashing lights as the coaster goes around the track, it looks pretty cool to see. A very different sight compared to what your would normally see on other coasters at night. read more

Ya hoo - the park open just for my fellow conference attendees from 7PM-1130PM! What should I do? Well those that know me would guess that it would be a bee line to the roller coasters. I logged 7 rides in between forays to Gringotts, Transformers and Mummy. Front x 4, middle x 2 and back car x1 (and never again, kinda brutal). Even talked a colleague who was game to face her fears to ride up front with me. I am now so done! Great lift hill, awesome drops, lot's of airtime on the bunnies a minute and a half through twists and inversions at speeds up to 65 mph all with a fantastic sound system built into the headrest. Can I be a complete chicken and still love this ride? We finally went on this coaster for the first time. I guess...what took me so long? Probably I needed to wait to have a companion who was tall enough who could handle this sort of ride. I did not know I was going to ride this so I forgot my contacts and did not want to take my glasses on, so I could barely see. Oh well. That made choosing a song difficult, plus the ride started so quickly I was not able to make a final selection. Some of the commenter stated the ride does not choose good songs, but my was great! It went with the ride so perfectly! Loved it. It made the entire experience! It was really fun and exhilarating. While the hills seem rough, the ride almost seemed not quite as fast as some of the other coasters but that would be my imagination, I do not know the speed stats on this one or the others. Nevertheless. Now that we have been on this ride, we will definitely be back, especially when the wait time is low, which I have seen quite a few times on this trip. read more

This was my first ever time going on a roller coaster and I screamed intensely for the entire ride! My aunt hated my screaming because I totally overreacted. It wasn't that scary at all! What I love about this particular ride is that you can choose from one of five genres of music and you can listen to that certain genre during the ride. Genres include, Classic Rock/Heavy Metal, Rap/Hip-Hop, pop, Alternative, and Country. The one thing that I really disliked about this ride is that it was too short, which is why it only lasted for about 35 seconds. With the exception of the Jurassic World VelociCoaster and a few others, most the roller coasters that I've been on had rides that only lasted for about 90 seconds. read more

As far as coasters go this is a fun one. You can't help but see it as soon as you enter the gates of Universal. It holds court front and center. I recently got to explore the park for an hour before my Orlando Informer Meetup party at the Wizarding World. With such a short amount of time I had to prioritize what i wanted to do the most and this was at the top of the list. An important thing to know is you will have to stash your belongings in a free locker before you attempt to ride. The park will even make you pass through a metal detector before you get in line. This is an important safety precaution they have implemented to make sure nothing flies off you and injuries another rider. Somebody lost an eye on Dragon Challenge from just such an incident. If you have anything loose leave it behind. This ride has my very favorite single rider line. If you don't have to go with your group this is a great option. I cut an hour off the wait and basically walked on the ride by choosing this line. Once you take your seat you have a few moments to pick the song you want to play during the ride. I picked the Beastie Boys Sabotage. They are five genres of music you can pick from including rap, club, country, pop, and classic rock. Lock your lap bar and off you go. The ride to the top of the coaster is frighting. You are lying flat on your back as the ride vertically lifts you to the top. That is actually the scariest part of the ride. After that you soar at a top speed of 65 miles per hour as you go through cork screw inversions, hair pinned turns, and steep drops. One minute and 37 seconds later you roll back into the station. This is not a coaster for the faint of heart but if you are a coaster fan it is a not to be missed ride. The kid next to me looked like he was five and he must have just made the height requirement. I asked him if he was sacred and he told me that he had been riding it all day and loved it. This is one of my favorite attractions at Universal. Ride it and rock on. read more

My boyfriend got stuck facing straight up. It was only for a few minutes (no rescue or anything) but man this ride was glitchy for a while. They were running empty car after empty car and still letting people get in line. When I saw the stuck car, I asked the guy at the entrance if there were people in that car and he said he didn't know. I've always heard a lot about this ride, but I never had the chance to ride it until recently. In concept, it seems amazing, but in practice it isn't as good, and I love fast coasters. The line setup is weird, and the fast pass seemed to take longer than the normal line during the final stretch. The load in procedure worked well, and it was the first time I did a single seat roller coaster, so i enjoyed that. They do not have the most modern song list, but plenty of genres. I chose Stronger by Daft Punk and I was sad to hear it was the intro only. My expectations were it would do the chorus, which is much more exciting. I love the song but the intro is chill and not a good fit for a fast paced ride. They really should pick the most exciting parts of songs and use those instead. The ride itself jerked too much. I've done pure speed coasters and none hurt my head like this one does, even utilizing the headrest didn't help. That really added to my displeasure I'd try it again, and try a different don't, to see if my opinion changes, but as of now I'm not a big fan of this ride. read more

Those brake runs really kill the flow of the ride and my head. They should tear it down and replace it with something bigger with better theming. Maybe something more iconic. This coaster is a cool concept. Each person can select music to listen to as they ride, if you don't select something it picks a random song. The music selection is little dated and the paint is fading a bit. The speakers in my seat were a bit crackly and blown out but the coaster is 9 years old. I can't imagine having to deal with maintaining the electronics on top of the regular maintenance of a coaster for that long without something slipping. You cant wear hats or have anything in your pockets. There's a free locker rental underneath though they are super small. The park employees and ride operators weren't as enthusiastic as other riders, but I think it's kind of hard to maintain the *rock on* vibe for hours on end. It was still fun to ride even with a little bit of negative. read more

Thanks to this ride - I can say for about a minute and a half I was Kanye West and shot a super Kanyesque music video. One of the newer additions to Universal Studios the Rip, Ride, Rocket is the first outdoor roller coaster for the property (Hey little brother IOA! Take that!). The ride pretty much becomes a music video when you strap into your seat and have a few seconds to choose your song. They have all categories and feature pretty popular songs - I went with Kanye West's Stronger. Unfortunately the song wasn't an accurate description of the ride as it isn't better, faster nor stronger than any other roller coaster - but it sure is unique! First off the ride up was one of the MOST terrifying things I have ever experience. Usually as carts are going up that little "click, click, click" noise terrifies me on it's own. Now imagine that...at a 90 degree angle. Yep, flat on your back, looking up at the heavens. But wait - there's another twist - the camera is recording you while your song choice blairs through two speakers mounted into your head rest. So even though I wash shiiii bricks...I put my game face on and did my best Kanye impersonation. You know how long I've been on youuu...Since Prince was on Appolonia Since OJ had Isotoners.....don't act like I never told you! A full on performance ensued as I lived out my childhood fantasy of being in a rap video. Arms waving in the air - my face coming as close to the camera as possible, then backing up to create a serious "hip hop video" effect and eyebrows telling a story of their own. The ride reaches 65 miles per hour - and the entire time you are listening to your song choice, being recorded and if you are like my wife - making some very embarrassing faces that show you are terrified. Then, when it's all said and done - you can purchase your music video!!! I almost got mine, but decided to pass. That's a choice I have regretted every day since. Thrice I have come to Universal to try to ride this much anticipated ride with the super lame name. Up until last weekend it was impossible due to the TWO HOUR wait in line. Yup, we arrived early twice and later in the day once and it didn't matter that we were there when the park opened or was close to closing. Still two hours. Last weekend it was 75 minutes. We decided to wait, giddy in line as we finally approached the ride itself. I won't lie, I was nervous. That ascending vertical lift was scaring the hell out of me. This ride was awesome! You get to choose what music blasts in your ears while you ride (hopefully they will bring some GnR - I was really jonesing for some Welcome to the Jungle, but chose Evanescence in the absence of GnR. Then Shiny Toy Guns "Le Disko" which is now my tune of choice for the ride and enlightened me to the awesomeness of this group). There is nothing cooler to have some wicked tunes blasting for sure nevertheless. This ride reaches 65mph has three drops and plenty of loops. They also have cameras that film your reaction throughout the whole ride, its pretty darn funny - although I was having a grand 'ol time it looked like I was terrified! My husband couldn't stop making fun of me. Our teenager however got the brunt of this as you can see the terror in her face as we began to climb and how she clearly said "I DON'T LIKE THIS".. then... her expression went from concern to sheer terror. It was epic. So of course we bought the video and aptly named it "Dani doesn't like this" at her request. The music video they make out of the clips is cute but over priced. For us its priceless as the marquis in the video keeps on running the words "Dani doesn't like this" as she screams in terror throughout. We did run to the Dragons and managed to hit my favorite before the weather kicked in - the very smooth, fast, and loopy Blue Ice Dragon. Still my favorite between Islands and Universal. This one is a MUST RIDE though, it is loads of fun and quite thrilling. Check it OUT! read more

Our whole experience at Universal would have been great accept this ride at 7:20 pm 6/13 My 3 girls got in line, wait time 25 min, they were close to the front and could see the employee letting express people through, which is fine, that's how it works, we know that, but then she keeps letting the express people go through......FOR 30 MINUTES!! she keeps letting the express people go through..now that's not fair!!! Other people were asking her why she was doing that, she was ignoring them! So rude and again unfair! Letting a few go through then switch back and forth..ruined the rest of the night plus wasted the last hour of our night! My girls got out of line because so much time was wasted and they weren't sure when she was going to let the regular riders go through..when they left the ride wait time had gone up 80 min and it was already after 8:00..some of express riders were riding 2 or more times..I know people pay extra money to get the express board but this was ridiculous! It has a story in that you're helping to shoot a music video and they want your reaction shots while riding a roller coaster, and they allow you to pick the music that blasts through your headrest at the start. We didn't have express passes, and the first day we tried to ride the Single Rider line they weren't allowing single riders. I thought that was odd, but I guess they cut it off on busy days. I can see why, as it became apparent on the second day when we did get in the single rider line that it didn't work very well. Each car sits two across, so it's really dependent on single riders or groups of three or five getting in the regular line, which doesn't happen a lot. I thought we were in for a longer wait than we were expecting for single riders, but the attendant waved us all onto a car eventually as a group, so they are aware of line management. Considering the ride starts at 90 degrees I expected the first hill to pull a lot more gees than it did, but there are lots and lots of twists and turns to satisfy even the most devout of coaster enthusiasts. Every time you crest a slowdown and expect to pull into the station you find yourself facing another hill or set of turns. The theme doesn't really make this a fun part of this destination, but this is a great coaster to add to you list of must ride attractions. read more
