My dad recently retired, so my parents decided to fix up and paint their house in LA and move to Phoenix to be closer to us and the kids. A couple of years ago, Doctor Painter had done interior exterior painting on the house next door. Henry was highly recommended by the neighbor. So we called Henry for an estimate; he spent more time than anybody else checking the house just to do the estimate. He spoke to us about all our options and ways to save money on labor and material. He was detailed, and listed everything that had to be done. Before we made a decision, we got three other estimates. One of the estimates was so low that it scared us, another one was lower than Henry's, but that guy would not go into detail too much about what he was going to do; it was vague and sounded like there would be a lot of additional charges along the way, we certainly didn't want that. And finally, the third estimate was detailed and they had good reviews, but it was almost 50% higher than Henry's; we couldn't figure out why. In fact, Henry had more credentials than any of the contractors we met. Considering all the work that needed to be done and all the prep work, Henry's estimate was reasonable. Henry wanted only 10% deposit to start the job; two of the other contractors wanted a lot more money up front. We couldn't take any chances, so we hired Dr. Painter to do both interior exterior painting and other minor home repairs. They started work when they said they would and finished on time for the open house. Henry was very professional, and on the job everyday. We had NO problems reaching him whenever needed, that's another thing, he is very easy to reach. There were NO hidden costs or headaches. As we were told, his workmanship was high quality. Henry is such a perfectionist; he really takes pride in his work. Our realtor liked his work so much that she now recommends Henry to all her clients. We made the right choice and highly recommend Henry and Dr. Painter to everyone. read more

Just finishing up a major cosmetic renovation of a 1930's condo. Henry is meticulous in his preparation which makes the results very high quality. He is a perfectionist and focuses on things I would never even think of. In addition to doing high quality work, his design aesthetic was incredibly helpful. I let him have some control over colors and I'm really happy I did that. Even subtle differences in "white" is so noticeable now. After this part is over, I'm going to have him start another project on my patio. First contractor that I've worked with that I can't think of a single complaint. read more

I recently bought a condo and the place was in pretty bad shape. After reviewing Yelp, I got estimates from 3 people, including Henry. I needed the entire place painted and the popcorn ceiling removed. Henry came out and really took his time explaining what needed to be done. He told me that his estimate would not be the cheapest and he was right... it was actually the most expensive but it was COMPLETELY worth the money. They were at my house for 11 days and did an outstanding job. The place looks brand new after they finished. Henry is awesome and his crew is great too! In addition to our original plan, Henry also had his guys strip and polish the railing on the stairway (looks amazing) and he referred me to an electrician to complete some electrical work. Besides doing excellent work, Henry is trustworthy, which is a big deal when dealing with contractors. I was always able to reach him by text or cell phone and I will definitely use him to complete the rest of my remodeling projects that are needed! I highly recommend Henry. read more

I met Henry through local Yelp listing after conducting thorough research and also meeting a few contractors who I found on HomeAdvisor. I liked Henry from the moment he walked into the property - his professional confident conduct, easy-going charismatic personality, upbeat attitude and incredible attention to detail. But first and foremost I felt very comfortable with him, as he comes around as a straightforward honest fellow. When I mentioned that there was a 3-star rating (based on purportedly higher estimates compared to those provided by other contractors), Henry advised me that quality comes with a price. I could not agree with him more: do you hear folks complaining about the high prices of Rolls-Royce?? Not only did Henry take a long time to inspect the condition of the property, a large SFR in Tarzana, but he went to a great length explaining to me what needs to be done and what is not worth spending extra money actually resulting in significant savings for me! Based on this positive experience, I am considering a couple of other projects for him and his crew. read more

My wife and I are very happy with the job Doctor Painter did repainting three rooms in our house. When Henry came by to give us an estimate, I could tell he cared about doing a good job; for example, he pointed out which trim really needed repainting. After we chose him to do the work, Henry helped us choose colors that we're really happy with. His assistant, Manuel, didn't just put coats of paint on the walls; he prepared them first and filled in all the holes (including some big ones from a bulletin board that we had torn off). One of our paint colors turned out to be pretty transparent, so he painted extra coats (at no extra labor charge) until the room looked great. It's been a couple months now, and we're very happy with how our walls look. We're planning to hire Doctor Painter again for all of our paint jobs. read more

Dr. Painter (Henry) deserves all these 5 star posts, if not 10 stars! He is extremely professional, courteous and it was a pleasure doing business with him. We hired him to paint the interior of our new home. First let me say, his free estimate is extremely detailed and he takes his time to go over everything with you and properly explain what is needed. Then sent a detailed email the next morning with the breakdown of everything and was willing to work with us. After meeting with other painters, we quickly decided to go with Henry. His crew came in on time, very friendly and got right to work! They taped and masked off everything and quickly finished the job. Honestly, if you need a painter --- hire Henry! My son recently moved away and his room needed a refurbishing. Henry gave an estimate which for the amount of work was quite fair. In addition I told him time was an important consideration. He agreed to the time frame and got started. I have to say he delivered in every way. He finished on time, the work was done perfectly and also very neatly. Henry and his crew were very nice and even our dog enjoyed their time with us. I hope anyone who need paint work will consider calling the Doctor for a first or second opinion. Henry & his crew recently completed painting 3 rooms in my house, plus my garage office & some exterior gates. The work involved removing some wainscotting in one room and dealing with quite a bit of intricate trim. As the work progressed I also asked him to refinish my antique front door. The results are spectacular! He also performed some things not included in the cost estimate, including replacement of smoke detectors and installation of some mini-blinds in one of the rooms painted. As others have mentioned, Henry comes out and prepares a very detailed estimate. There were no cost "overruns". The work was completed in a timely manner. He is fully licensed and insured. His crew is very professional & friendly, and I had absolutely no concerns having them in my home. I could not be happier with the work they performed, and Doctor Painter will be at the top of the list the next time I need work done. read more

We engaged Dr. Painter (Henry) to paint most of the exterior wood trim (including the front door + shutters) and all siding of our 2-story home. They also painted a large patio cover and installed sun-shade material on the patio. We received bids from 4 different painters before selecting Dr. Painter. While Dr. Painter was not the lowest bid, they were very competitive. More importantly, none of the other painters intended to perform the same level of prep work as Dr. Painter (particularly sanding, caulking, patching, and priming). Because of the prep, I believe we have a much better looking end result and one that will have more longevity. Finally, other reviews mention Henry's high attention to detail. We absolutely concur. I don't normally write reviews, but in this case, I feel that I must. I'm a woman who just purchased her first home. I bought a house that needed a lot of work. I called around 20 different contractors; half of them never even showed up. The dozen or so that did show up either had NO license, some were too expensive, others were too cheap, and a few of them were shady, to say the least. I finally got tired and decided to check the Better Business Bureau, where I found Henry's company, Manizani Painting who has an A+ rating. I called Henry and spoke to him over the weekend; he showed up the next day. He listened to me and went over everything with me. He gave me a written estimate with over 40 references. I was so impressed with his presentation and attitude. He also does handyman services, called Big Cheese Handyman, which I needed too. I checked out his references, and everyone loved him. I hired him, and he started work about a week later. I gotta say that this was the best experience I have ever had with any service company. They did exactly as they said they would. They cleaned up daily. They were respectful, honest, on time, very skillful and super friendly. I've never seen a paint job this clean. I am now one of his references. I wish Henry the best and hope to hire him and his crew again for my next project. I recommend Manizani Painting to everyone, including my friends and family. read more

I'm giving this review 3 stars only because I can't post a review without a giving a star rating. I have not used Henry the Doctor Painter so I can't comment on his workmanship. But I can say I did get a quote from him. And his quote was much more then my other 3 quotes. Based on Henry's very detailed quote I have no doubt he would have done a fantastic job. However my job was for a backyard patio cover and I didn't feel we needed all that Henry wanted to do. So my only comment to all Yelp reviewers is that he's on the high end. So if you have a painting need that just needs a good, basic paint job (like my patio cover) you could probably save some money and get a better deal elsewhere. read more

I had to update my review because we have had Henry/Doctor Painter for two more projects since he originally painted for us in 2013. He did our exterior last fall - and did another outstanding job. He also used his contracting connections to get us a good deal on gutters, which will hopefully help preserve our new paint a little longer. In addition, he did our sunroom just two days ago. It was a lot of detail work - cutting around windows, etc. Once again, an excellent job, and the area was spotless when the painter was done. Because Henry is also a contractor and I shared with him that our next project will be our kitchen - I will of course be seeing what kind of amazing plans/price/etc he can come up with for that project. read more

I needed three estimates for clients who wanted their house painted inside and out so they could sell it and since I only had two (both direct referrals from people I trust) I checked the internet for a third. Dr. Painter had the highest ratings of the painters I found, so I met with Henry, the owner, mainly as a formality as I was skeptical of what I might find on the internet. And I sure am glad I did! Going into our first meeting I thought I would spend 15 minutes with him but it ended up being over two hours! I was extremely impressed with Henry's knowledge, his experience, his openness to my questioning, his attention to detail and his commitment to do the job right. Being a business owner myself, I was extremely impressed with his business philosophy and the way he runs his business. I asked him several questions related to employee safety, insurance, workers' compensation, etc. and every response was rock solid. Upon my recommendation, my clients did hire Dr. Painter. As I had never actually worked with Henry, I initially spent a lot of time checking on the work, basically trying to find problems. The work was so excellent I found none. They actually were exceeding my expecations which is extremely hard to do. The funny thing is that Henry is the one who found the problems. He would immediately bring them to me to discuss how to solve them. Part way through the job I could see that Henry was so on top of the project and the quality of the work was so excellent that I finally stopped obsessing on it. I had found someone who cared as much about his business and the quality of the work as I cared about my business. Henry works in a very collaborative way and is a creative problem solver. He saved me many headaches with this project, not only with the paint but with other issues that arose. Honestly, when the job was finished the quality of the work was so supreme and the amount of time that went into the project was so large that I began to feel Henry was being underpaid. It is difficult to compare "apples to apples" when it comes to something like comparing painting contractors. There are so many ways to cut corners. I can tell you that the quality of Henry's work, combined with his work ethic, are so superior to others that he really does stand in a league of his own. read more

We have had a lot of experience with service people over the years and I have never bothered to write a review but I must say I was compelled to review Doctor Painter because they FAR exceeded my expectations which I never thought possible. The attention to detail, the care in reducing any needless interruptions in our daily life was not lost on me. Our project took 3 days. After day 1, the workers removed all the plastic, returned the furniture to its place and cleaned better than my housekeeper. I was SHOCKED. I told the painter the next day that it was fine to keep the plastic down and ready for day 3. I actually felt guilty that he worked so hard to clean in the middle of the project. For a perfectionist like me it was an experience I have never had with a service. I would highly recommend Henry and his crew. I felt I could totally trust them in my home and would never consider anyone else for my future painting needs. read more
