Comfort care was all that was required. Although Joyce was under hospice care, we needed help bathing her until the hospice staff could send bathing assistance. We called Colonial Home Care. They sent the sweetest angel to our home to help. Daisy bathed, changed clothes and bedding so that Joyce would be as comfortable as possible. I couldn't do it myself. Joyce was beginning to sink into unconciousness and could no longer help me move her. Daisy did the job with expertise that alleviated adding stress to my sister-in-law's discomfort. I'm so grateful. In fact, Daisy was such a welcome assistant I asked her to return the following Monday. Before I could schedule the appointment my sister-in-law quickly sunk into death's grip. I spent countless hours calling the recruiter and management to check on progress and I never got any answers, occasionally the manager would get on the phone to tell me how difficult it was to find a nurse or LVN to hire... The last agency we worked with actually discharged us after 8 months of my persisting calling, claiming they just couldn't find any candidates. That the reason why I was TRULY AMAZED when we switched to Avery! In a matter of a week, Drew came to meet our family, nurse supervisor Stephanie did the assessment and a week later we had an evening nurse who was wonderful and is now a personal friend. Drew has been very proactive and caring in the past two years, successfully finding potential LVN's to help my daughter and being responsive and professional handling all my messages. What a difference! Being a parent of a severely disabled teenager doesn't really leave a lot of time to spend chasing people down for an answer and babysitting the process. Discovering these charges felt like a betrayal, especially when you're already overwhelmed trying to care for a loved one. Instead of compassion or accountability, we were met with "we will call you back" and excuses. They never called back. We spent hours calling, emailing, and questioning charges that never should have existed in the first place. The stress and anxiety this caused our family was overwhelming. No one should have to fight this hard just to understand why their money is being taken. This company markets trust, care, and integrity--but when it came to finances, we felt taken advantage of at one of the most vulnerable moments of our lives. The emotional toll of dealing with unexplained billing on top of caregiving responsibilities was devastating. Maria gave me a good overview of the services and options they provide over the phone so we scheduled a home visit with my mom. The visit went great, and my mom felt very comfortable with Maria and her staff. The paperwork was easy to process and we were all set. Caregivers were on time and quickly established a good rapport with my mom. They helped with all her essential needs like bathing and meal prep, but they also did other tasks like light cleaning, driving her to physical therapy appointments, and just visiting with her. As my mom recovered over the following weeks, we were able to scale back the caregiver hours to just what was needed until eventually, mom was independent and on her own again. Maria is easy to communicate and coordinate with and provides an excellent service for people like my mom. In the end, they were really a key part of her recovery.
