My mom the client is a bit picky w/ caretakers so it's hard for Freda but she does her best to keep all 7 days of the week covered. I talked to my mom and our favorite caretakers are Stacey, Cynthia, and Lisa. Stacey and Cynthia mainly work during the week to keep coverage from what I can see. I hear them speak to my mom when I'm in the hallway and they're very nice and sweet. I'll be honest it's nice to hear my mom have small talk with people other than my brother and I. I believe these two Stacey and Cynthia are the only ones currently giving her a bed bath. If we didn't have them during the week we'd be in bad shape. They've also helped w/ my mom when a physical therapist is here w/ the hoyer to lift her up to do things so they are trained. Lisa, mainly comes in on the weekends unless she has time to fill in during the week. She's a very sweet lady whose very nice and appreciative of whatever we do for her. She's communicative and gives her advice on my mom's care. Again, we've been using this agency for over 1.5 years and I see no reason why we wouldn't keep using them. Give them a try especially if you're in the Yorba Linda area since they're located here.

And believe me, I felt sorry for whoever was…read moregoing to take on my mom because not only am I in deep in healthcare (previously in acute neuro trauma and now in outpatient/hospital admin), but she is heavily SURROUNDED by people in healthcare ranging from directors, doctors, surgeons, and nurses. On top of that she has family who loves and protects her very deeply. Somethings that stood out about ActivCare to me from the rest that made me choose them over the others: 1. There's only 2 levels instead of 5+ levels. You have to have memory issues if you want to live there so there will be no confusion or issues trying to determine which patients need what as the general needs will be similar. 2. You don't get nickel and dimed. Other places might charge for laundry service, food, incontinence, etc etc. not here. You just might have to pay for medications or the beauty salon or doctors. 3. There's a licensed nurse at all hours of the day and wake staff 24 hours. 4. Appropriate staff are constantly cleaning. 5. They usually have daily exercises. 6. There are outings. 7. There is a set daily schedule. 8. There's a tiny putting green if they choose to putt. 9. There's a tiny garden. 10. We could go take food and eat with her whenever we wanted. 11. All of the above was everything we loved, but the cherry on top was that it was THE BEST COST!! What I was scared of: 1. She wouldn't accept it and start declining. 2. She wouldn't adapt. 3. She wouldn't be nice to them. 4. She wouldn't eat the food. 5. She would be mad at us. 6. They wouldn't care for her like we did at home. What actually happened after she became a resident despite her craziness and Sour Patch Kid personality: 1. She relied on them and they comforted her. 2. She ate the food and almost too much that she got the nickname the Cookiemonster. 3. She adapted (we told her it was a private hospital to get stronger since they had exercises everyday and people to help her walk). 4. They accepted her sour moments and loved her anyway. 5. She felt comforted by them and especially by certain people and they would do her hair and paint her nails. 6. She actually got stronger for a bit and actually started socializing and participating. 7. Of course she fell because thats is inevitable but they cared for her the right way each time (and if you think because she lives in a facility that it shouldn't have happened then I'll tell you right now you're never allowed to hire anyone to care for your loved one or send them somewhere to live because that's impossible). 8. I got to see an Elvis impersonator, whole room karaoke, chair exercises, the biggest puzzles of my life, so many things that will now also be core memories for my son. 9. I became her daughter again instead of the stressed and burnt out default extra caregiver since she lived at my house. 10. They loved and cared for her more than I could have ever imagined. My mom's brain cancer eventually took over and even when it enslaved her to be loud and demanding they still loved and cared for her until she couldn't function. Imagine this mixed with memory and dementia issues. It takes a special soul and personality to work in an environment like this; I can save your life but I admittedly am not that person. All of these people are that person and if God gave me back my mom from heaven then I would choose ActivCare Yorba Linda again to help me care for my mom. The care she received makes it 10 times more worth what was paid for her care which was already a great price. If you're reading this sentence and contemplating, I think you know where your family will be going. Tell them the Cookiemonster sent you.

My experience as a volunteer was great!! I always thought staff were so friendly, very patient and kind, and the activities seemed so fun for the adults! They had holiday parties, games, TV/shows playing, people singing, and the whole environment just seemed super safe and fun. I'm sure the older folks in there preferred to be home, as aging and being less independent is a huge change in life. I'm so glad they have places like this that exist that actually care & treat not only staff and patients well, but families and volunteers too! This is coming from someone who is now 35! I thought this way back in HS! This place really opened up my eyes for the profession I am in now, Social Work! I don't say this lightly. I have been a caregiver to my grandparents and parents since I was 25 years old -- I am now 50. Caregiving has been a defining part of my adult life. In 2019, I had to have brain surgery and at that point I truly had no choice but to get help. My dad needed 24-hour care, and I could not physically do it alone anymore. It broke our hearts and the amazing team at Bubbe and Zayde's cared for my dad in ways that exceeded my every desire and need for my dad's care. My father was a Vietnam veteran. He was exposed to Agent Orange, which led to Parkinson's disease, and three years later he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia -- a devastating, relentless illness. The last seven years were filled with complications, hospitalizations, chronic health issues, and heartbreaking changes. I can say with complete honesty: if it were not for the extraordinary caregiving team at Bubbe and Zayde's Place, I do not know how I would have survived this journey. The men and women who work there are not just caregivers -- they are earth angels. They are patient, gentle, skilled, attentive, and deeply loving. They treated my dad with dignity, safety, and compassion every single day, even as his disease progressed. They knew him. They protected him. They cared for him as if he were their own. During my dad's final days, I spent six days and six nights living there with him. They provided a portable bed so I could sleep by his side. I silently watched and observed there devoted and difficult work. They strive to bless each resident with love, dignity and respect. I felt supported, held, and surrounded by people who truly understood what mattered in those final moments. They have all become my family. Bubbe and Zayde's Place is owned by a devoted Jewish family, and the heart behind it shows in everything they do. The founder was a single mother who started with just one house in the 1990s -- a powerful story of love, resilience, and vision. Today, there are six houses that share a backyard, creating a real sense of community to honor the elderly at a fragile time in their lives. They have a movie theater, activities, and -- most importantly -- they work intentionally to ensure residents stay connected to friends and to one another during what can be an incredibly lonely stage of life.
