I went to the Monterey location to get a Covid-19 test before travelling. My appointment was at 11:00. I was told to wait outside till somebody calls me on the phone. Since nobody called me, I would step into the office every 5 minutes to remind them of my presence. Then 20-25 minutes later, I was asked to wait inside a room with no aeration and no windows open. I waited for an extra 15 minutes inside an exam room, which contradicts their policy of keeping us safe outside. The test itself took less than a minute but my stay there lasted one hour. For covid-19 tests, I would recommend to go to the Seaside High School; it's free, quick, and people are much nicer there. read more

The wait was about an hour, a normal rate and actually a good one for any doctors on duty. For example the one in marina stops walk ins sometimes as early as 1pm or earlier which is so crappy when you live in the area and need to be seen or my kids need to be seen. I went to the Monterey one because I thought my daughter may need X-rays on her foot, it was swollen and sprained so I went from where I live in marina to the Monterey one instead. The front staff was pleasant and put us in a little after we arrived but made up for it in wait times being so low when we actually got called we were in the right place. That's what matters. The front staff at the doctors on duty in SALINAS is garbage btw don't ever go to south main. Anyways this is about Monterey. The doctor who helped us name was Dr. Satya. He was 100% more than amazing and really took care of me and my daughter. I informed him of my concerns and he addressed them all without making my daughter worried or nervous and thats sometimes hard, to keep her calmed and at ease that is. The doctor made the doctors on duty a dream place to get fixed up at! I am so grateful theirs still compassionate nice professional people out there like Dr. Satya! Once again, he was truly a life saver and should get a raise for how he performs to perfection and compassionate heart he has. Thanks Dr! We will be back. I went to the Doctors on Duty on Lighthouse Avenue. My experience their left me pleasantly surprised. The staff and the doctor were really kind and professional. I had to wait a bit to be seen but I expected that as a walk-in. Once I was placed in an exam room it was only a couple of minutes before the doctor came in. the revolving door of doctors ensures two things. one- there will be a technically qualified doctor available to see you. two- there is ZERO consistency in care. tonight- Dr. Wells made me feel like an idiot for coming in for a small, DEEP cut on my finger. I could hear the disdain in his voice as he asked if I was okay while he scrubbed my cut with gauze. Really? You are currently prodding an injured area ---triggering every pain receptor in my finger, and you're going to be rude while doing it. thanks a ton. makes it hard to believe the last visit was as good as it was. Dr. Morgan was the complete opposite. She never tried to diminish my pain or make me feel like an inconvenience in her day. I wish there were more doctors like her available for those of us who have to go to Doctors on Duty. Adding insult to injury helps no one. Clearly, I wasted Dr. Wells time as well as my own. I am a semi-fit 60 year old female from Michigan. Just before visiting San Cruz, California I was exposed to Poison Oak. Two days after arriving to Santa Cruz the Poison Oak/rash spread to most parts of my body. I was itchy, spotted, and miserable. I was extremely fortunate that Dr. Karin Yien was on duty at the Santa Cruz DOCTORS ON DUTY walk-in Medical Clinic. She was extremely thorough, taking time to ask detailed questions about when/where/how I had contracted Poison Oak etcetera. Not only did Dr. Yien prescribe medication to help with the problem, she followed up by calling me (herself) twice to make sure the rash/itching was subsiding. My experience on Jan. 4, 2019 was great. I've had spinal problems and many surgeries. My regular doctor was out of town and I couldn't wait any longer for my regular trigger point shot. My pain level was an 8-9 and I got back on prescription meds, which I hate. I'm so grateful that Dr. Wells was able to help me. He did an excellent job with the shot and gave me instant relief. My visit with a Nurse Practitioner was awful. I'm prone to really bad upper respiratory infections, and was dry coughing so much that it hurt to speak. She tested for strep: nope. "Well, I guess just wait it" out she said - I had literally coughed a spot of blood in a tissue right there. After ignoring her expert opinion I found a real doctor who quickly wrote a prescription for phenergan-codeine cough syrup knowing it was the only thing to control the symptoms. I told him (the doc) that the nurse practitioner also wrote me a script for antibiotics (I knew not to fill that), which he said was a poor choice and to stay away from this clinic. Some healthcare professionals, especially newer one that have come up during the "opioid crisis" are actually "opiophobic" and it hinders them from making reasonable decision to help people in pain. I'd like my prescriber to not have a huge blind spot just because of moral reasons. read more

I had a great experience here yesterday. The wait was unexpectedly shorter than I was originally told, the receptionist was very pleasant as was the medical assistant. The Dr was extremely thorough and was not like other Dr experiences I've had at other urgent cares where they quickly just give anyone meds. This was our first visit to Doctors on Duty and we were pleasantly surprised. We did not have an appointment but wanted my son to be seen as he was not feeling well. The wait was manageable and the front staff was super friendly. Once we went back, Eric was the first person we encountered, with a smile and friendly demeanor. He interacted with my son and made the experience pleasant, especially impressive considering he was dealing with a sick kid. Shelby was our PA, she was concise, friendly, and asked us lots of appropriate questions. Everyone there was friendly and competent. I have never witnessed such unprofessionalism at any Doctor's office. The manager Amanda completely dismissed the fact that there was patients in the waiting area and belittled her employee. The way she spoke to her was so rude. I can't believe that people like that have a job in such a reputable company. I had to walk out. I recently returned from a trip to NY. Called to get an appointment for a covid test. Ms. Cruz told me to download the forms and send them in an email to her, which I did. Telephone appointment was set for 10 a.m. Saturday. I called at 10 on Saturday to figure out what I was supposed to do since I had no email back from DoD. The person on the phone told me, "We don't have your paperwork so you did not receive a link." When I told the woman I sent the paperwork in an email to Ms. Cruz and it didn't get bounced back, the woman said, "Well, we don't have access to Ms. Cruz's email." What kind of incompetence is this? There was no "sorry for the inconvenience." NYC had a much better system of testing. This is not the way to operate in a pandemic! read more

I was seen by Dr. Wells this morning at Doctors on Duty. The staff at all levels were outstanding. It was a busy lobby but I was seen quickly, and I did not feel rushed at any moment. This is the second time I have been seen by Dr. Wells and I was equally impressed the first time. I came in for flu like symptoms and after a thorough exam additional issues were discovered...super impressed. This office is warm, welcoming and efficient. We were able to get in only three hours later from our initial contact and everything was set up inside very cleanly. The procedure was professional and quick once the paperwork was completed. I wish I'd seen an area to fill in that paperwork ahead of time so the stay was even quicker. I was a walk in. Was immediately assisted with verifying they accepted my insurance. When I was told it was about a two hour wait, and they gave me the option to leave and get a call when it was 20 minutes before my turn. I chose to do this and they called me and when I returned I was taken back within 10 minutes. Almost immediately seen by a care provider. Tests were done quickly to determine the source of my fever and treatment prescribed when the source was determined. By the time I left the building and arrived at CVS two blocks down, they were already working on my prescription. Doctors on Duty gets highest marks from me for excellent customer service (front desk staff were kind and helpful), medical care (tests were done quickly), and the staff that sends prescriptions over to the pharmacy was super efficient. Reception, staff, MD, location and physical building were all excellent. I checked in and was told it could be a hour but they would text/email if sooner. I had poison oak rash. I left. They texted that they could see me sooner. I returned from my walk; saw physician; got a shot; prescription for ointment and pills; and a referral for a dermatologist. Everything was very great. First of all, I'm the kind of guy that immediately reads the 1 star reviews and works his way up to 3/4. I tend to think most of the 5's are bs. So by my own logic, I would be writing a bs review right now. Not the case... I'm on vacation for a family reunion and a 2 week old spider bite suddenly got severely infected. I am a fish outta water to this area so I relied solely on what was, A. Open. And B. Yelped better. I only had 2 options for an urgent care in the immediate area. Both of the "1-3" star reviews kinda sucked to be honest with you. I ended up going with D.O.D. cause it was closest. What did I get? A full fledged 5 star experience. There were at least 3 or 4 people ahead of me and I was seen in about 30 min. All of the staff, nurses, and doc I saw were awesome. Super friendly and thorough. I definitely felt comfortable and ultimately was well taken care of.
