I had surgery a few days ago at the Cass St. surgery center and they were amazing on all counts. From the nurse who checked me in, to the amazing nurse who put in my IV (the only part of surgery that I really dread) to the anesthesia doctor, and whoever it was who very patiently helped me to dress on leaving that day, they were all so kind and compassionate that before surgery even began I felt like I had my own personal, elite squad of care. Thank you to all of you, and also the 2 new nurses introduced to me in the operating room as I was saying hello while succumbing to the anesthesia. I remember laughing to myself as they wheeled me down the hall, and saying I felt like a famous formula 1 driver and they were my superstar pit crew! I've been to the surgery center more times than I can count. I've never had a negative experience. The front desk staff provided a pleasant welcoming. The nurses are just amazing. They know how to help you relax and have a little fun before and after the procedures. I've had four different surgeons. They were all top notch. The facility is clean, busy and full of people who care and try to make your procedure as smooth as possible. I rather enjoyed the chatter amongst the staff. It showed me that they enjoyed their job and their co-workers. It was a true team experience. I highly recommend any of their Monterey facilities. read more

I had a manipulation procedure for my knee done 2 weeks ago. Dr Pitta was great, did a great job. The nursing staff were excellent, addressed my needs, HOWEVER...the anesthesiologist was horrible. He gave me a nerve block supposedly in my knee that should have lasted a minimum of 4 hours accordingly to the paperwork. In essence, it didn't last an hour. I left in a wheelchair to the car and pulled myself inside. When my friend drove me home I couldn't stand on my leg without excruciating pain to the point of almost collapsing from the pain. This should not be! Again, the nurses, front desk and Dr Pitta were excellent. This was my only complaint. read more

Fantastic Surgery Center -- we are relatively new to the area and I had to have surgery on my hand. I've heard from several people that Dr. James Lin is the best in the Monterey area... and everything I heard is true... Dr. Lin is amazing. I was so nervous (and scared, if I'm being completely honest). I had my surgery done at the Monterey Peninsula Surgery Center on Cass St. The surgery center is in an older building, but once I stepped inside, the woman behind the front desk put me at ease. And when I was brought to the back area to prepare for my surgery, almost all of my worries were pretty much forgotten. The staff at the surgery center was professional and warm (maybe they could tell that I was nervous). Brian took my blood pressure, etc. He was very nice. Talking to him was like talking to a good friend. The nurses and other medical staff (Dana, Vicky, Alice, and Richard) were just as friendly. In my humble opinion, bedside manner really counts. Another thing I noticed is that the facility was VERY clean and well-organized. Before I went to the area where I would change into my gown, I went to the restroom ... it was spotless (extra points for that!). A nice touch was Dr. Lin asking me what music I wanted in the operating room. read more

Unsafe! throughout my procedure at Monterey peninsula surgery center the main interest among all the medical professionals in the room was what songs they wanted to listen to and chatting with each other. zero patient focus as a result I endured unnecessary pain even though I asked for that to be addressed 12 times I don't think anybody was even paying attention and that's something that can be readily addressed. It was horrifying. to lie there surrounded by medical professionals that are completely unfocused on the patient.?! tears running down my cheeks, neither the doctor or the anesthesiologist coming out afterward not even given after that horrific traumatic experience 15 minutes to recover in a bed, tears running down my cheeks as the immediately plop you into a wheelchair to get you out! not even 15 to 30 minutes of recovery allowed. Surgical team is good. Smooth check in process, friendly staff. Beatrice in billing is horrific however. First thing out of her mouth was I have 30 days to pay before she sends to collection. I paid 80% of my projected responsible cost day of surgery, then shuffled through insurance for another 60 days and first call I get less than 3 months after surgery is a threat to go to collection. With the complexity of insurance these days, and the calculation of co-pays, co-insurance, calculation of Max out of pocket costs, you would think that someone would have a little more understanding and tact than just starting with "you will go to collections" read more

Five star facility! My son just had his tonsils out and I'm so happy it was done at the surgery center! All the staff, nurses and doctors were amazing! We scheduled the appointment with our doctor (which was a few weeks out. I filled out all the paperwork online when they sent me a link about a week prior. A day before they let me know the time of surgery. I also got a separate call from billing that day letting me know how much it would be and gave me payment options. The evening before surgery the anesthesiologist called to check in and go over what to expect. We arrived 1 hour prior to surgery and my son was in the recovery room for 1 hour then was sent home! Everything was clearly explained by nurses and doctors and gave me simple instructions to take home. I highly recommend the surgery center! read more

I have had two great experiences at the Monterey Surgery Center. The nurses and nursing assistants are wonderful and do everything to set the patient at ease, plus updating you as to when your procedure will begin. Everyone there is courteous and professional, and they provide follow-up calls to the patient. read more

This review is for the RYAN RANCH CENTER: I went in for lahv hysterectomy on 12/14/2017. I am a total baby when it comes to pain. I was in awe of the compassion and total support by staff, nurses, billing, doctor, anesthesiologist and my surgeon, dr. Alexander. I stayed overnight and was well taken care of. Have had surgery at Munras, Cass Street and just last week, Ryan Ranch. If you have to have surgery, this is the way to go. Don't know how they do their hiring, but at all centers, friendliness and reassurance begins the moment you walk in the door. All surgery/nursing staffs are super. This last time, a nurse name Palmyra (I think!) really extended herself to straigthen out a problem with a prescription. Can't say enough good things about these people! read more

Unprofessional is the quickest way to explain my experience here. Did not get a phone call as represented to discuss anesthesia ahead of time, even though I told them I needed to address the types of drugs, process used because of negative experiences with traditional gas. I was told every time I brought it up, you will get a call, discuss it with him--it never happened. Then I was left for over an hour in this cramped room while an inexperienced nurse tried to get a needle in my arm--she said it would work as long as someone held it down to my skin! That was the line for the drugs to keep me out during the procedure. During this long wait in this little room, which had one small chair that was stained with some kind of food and/or beverage, I heard several loud conversations that made me feel like I was in a crowded bar. Some men were right outside discussing that night's upcoming basketball game in very loud voices, there were people visiting other patients laughing and talking loudly and I got to hear the details about some previous patient's procedure, since a doctor was dictating his report within earshot [never mind patient privacy concerns!]. My request to see the anesthesia doc went unanswered. Once he came, he dismissed my concerns about the process. He did seem annoyed, however, that the first needle was improperly inserted, and added a second needle to my arm since he saw it was not going to work. There was also alot of uncertainty about my share of the cost, that is still not resolved, even though my insurance company paid a fairly large chunk of money on the bill, and I paid 1100 more than the estimated amount. Several phone calls later, it is still not resolved--the office is hard to reach and phoning 4 times during business hours did not yield a response. I was under the impression that the billing was more transparent than hospital stays, but that does not seem to be the case. The best part of the stay was the nurse who prepped me to go home, she was very helpful, demonstrating wraps and such and how to get dressed without aggravating the impacted area. She stayed into her lunch break for continuity of service until I was released. The problem seems to be that there are so many people in and out, its sort of like a car wash experience, except you are dealing with your physical well being. I had lots of confidence in my surgeon, but would prefer to be somewhere where it was less chaotic and more responsive to the fact that surgery often presents a number of physical and emotional challenges. read more

I came in this morning to get a minor procedure done. I was very pleased with the service I received. From walking in they the door to get checked in all the way to when I left, I was given amazing service! The nurses and staff at the surgery center were so kind and compassionate! They talked to me in the OR making sure I was okay and giving me explanation for everything that was going on. I would totally recommend this place for everyone! read more

I had minor outpatient surgery under general anesthesia at the Ryan Ranch location in Monterey. Everything went fine. And everyone -- from my surgeon (Dr. Benner) to my anesthesiologist (Dr. Stackpole) and the nurses -- was competent and pleasant. I was really impressed with how friendly the nurses were. I mentioned that to my recovery nurse, and she said, "We like working here." To me, that suggests good management. I might take half a star off for the loud TV in the waiting room (not what I want to hear when I have pre-surgery nerves and am trying to fill out paperwork) and a slight bit of disorganization. Watch out for this place! They run a scam similar to "bait and switch," where they provide an "estimate" then when they bill you, have jacked up the charges considerably. Suddenly, you owe more money and the make more money. Possibly legal but very unethical! If I'd known the real cost, I would never have tried the surgery (which didn't work anyway). Plus, my efforts to deal with this in writing and by telephone were totally ignored. Instead, they referred my to a very rude, aggressive, uncooperative bill collector. In short, they substantially increase the charges, then when you don't play the game their way, they release the wolves. read more

MPSC recently opened another location, the Capitola Surgery Center. Sometimes you don't have much choice in selecting the location for surgery, but if you do, you should definitely consider the Capitola Surgery Center. I had surgery there yesterday and wanted to give credit to the facility and all of their staff. For my 7:30am surgery, I need to check-in at 6:30am. Within a matter of a few minutes, Kim had all my paperwork and co-payment info completed so I was able to relax in the clean waiting area. Shortly after that, my nurse Crystal brought me into the pre-op area and was very helpful in calming my nerves and answering my questions. Getting an IV and an injection for a nerve block don't necessarily make the list for fun things at 7am, but Crystal, the charge nurse Cecilia, and the anesthesiologist Dr. Fox were excellent at making me as comfortable as possible with the process. Thanks to the wonders of general anesthesia, I don't remember the surgery but the wake up was pleasant. Crystal and Cecilia were at the bedside again to insure that everything was ok. Throughout my entire stay, each nurse and doctor displayed nothing but the utmost professionalism and care for my well being. The Capitola Surgery Center is easily accessible off of Hwy 1 and 41st Ave, is new and very clean, runs efficiently, and employs wonderful staff. Although I hope I don't have to return, I would definitely recommend this location (and MPSC) to anyone having outpatient surgery. Had back surgery here 7/07/14. Was supposed to be in & out, same day. Unfortunately I had to stay the night. However, from check in til my husband came for me @ 5:30am the next morning the staff were AMAZING! So attentive, so kind, helpful but not intrusive. They chatted when you felt like chatting, and left you alone when you were doing ok. No less than 2 times in the middle of the night, as 1 nurse was aiding me to the restroom, the other was completely changing all my bedding. I was disappointed to have to stay the night but they did everything in their power to make it a comfortable stay! Much, much better & more personal than a hospital! read more

First, let me say I have never seen or experienced a more caring, more professional and more competent team of physicians, nurses and staff in any medical treatment facility or hospital. The care my wife received during two separate procedures is a testament to the leadership and quality of service they provide. From the time we arrived early in the morning to the time my wife was discharged, we were treated with the utmost concern and respect. All of our questions were answered and any of our concerns or fears were addressed to the fullest and most detail. We cannot say thanks enough to this team and the leadership of the MP Surgical Center! If you have a choice, I would definitely choose to use this center over any other center. read more

I had a surgery here a week ago and I must say they have very good service and very friendly staff. Nursing assistant Bri and RN Lynn were really nice and caring. My only little complain is that I had to wait a while for somebody to answer my call light twice. I had to go pee so bad from the IV and was just sitting there trying to hold it. My mom had to come out and asked for somebody to help me twice. Other than that, it was a good experience. Very nice staff! Keep it up. read more

I had surgery here a few days ago under general anesthesia for my ENT issues. I've never been here before and was given the choice between the hospital and MPSC for my surgery, so I decided to give MPSC a shot. My surgery was at 8:00 am. Upon walking in and checking in, things are very calming and the atmosphere is as soothing as possible. I signed some paperwork and sat down for maybe 5 mins before I was called back to the pre-op area. Things went quickly, there wasn't an awful long time of laying there to get yourself worked up, which I appreciate! My anesthesiologist, Dr. Keszler, seemed a little concerned about my having asthma (so was I!) but seemed confident about his plan with me, which made me feel more confident prior to going under! I remember having a funny conversation after the Versed injection and the next thing I remember is waking up in post-op around 12:00 with everyone telling me it was over. The nurse I had on wake up (I had different ones throughout, don't remember her name) gave me some pain meds and something to stop me from throwing up and called my family back. Dr. Keszler stopped by again to tell me everything went great with my heart and lungs, yay! MPSC called to follow up with me the next morning which I thought was great, and they helped get ahold of my surgeon as my pain wasn't well controlled at home. The only little thing? I felt I was a little rushed from time of wake up to time out the door, maybe that's just typical for a day surgery though? I'm not sure since I've never had one, but it just felt that way. Everything else was great though. Would use MPSC if I ever God forbid need another surgery! read more

My experience with this surgery center was quite positive. One of the first things I noticed was a respect for the patient's wishes to be honored. It is not frequent that I want to deviate from the recommended course of action with respect to surgery, but in this case I did. Both physician and staff were respectful of my wishes. An additional complimentary comment needs to include there thorough nature in the prevention of mistakes. Though none were made during my visit, there was an ongoing check and recheck mentality to keep from assuring they had the right patient for the right procedure for the right surgeon, etc. The only unpleasant part of the experience was the insomnia following the procedure, probably as a result of an injection during the procedure. But the comment from the other review regarding not dispensing pain meds raises questions with me... not about the surgery center. I believe normally if a patient needs meds after a procedure, the patient visits a pharmacy. They don't get handed drugs going out the door from the surgery center or hospital. read more

I had cataract surgery here this month and my experience was wonderful, From the time I entered, had the surgery and left, only an hour had passed. The staff couldn't have been nicer. This was the most comfortable and friendly medical facility I have experienced Every person I interacted with there could not have been nicer. My surgery was done by Dr Penrose, who took less than 10 minutes to perform with little to no discomfort but the supporting staff was outstanding. They made me feel right at home and I was so impressed with each and every one of them that I wrote down their names but since coming home I have misplaced it, but believe me you will be as thrilled with their treatment as I was.. read more

I've been there to get epidurals at least four times with Dr Chang. The staff is very nice, warm and friendly. They try to make you feel as comfortable as much they can and they seem to really care about their patients. They check to make sure your doing OK afterwards too with a post op call. I feel they are genuine in their care for their patients and also very professional. I much prefer this facility over the Munras place which I was scheduled there once and didn't like at all; very different environment and attitude. Thank you Dr Chang and the Cass st. Don't ever get a surgery done here. I had a surgery scheduled here for a month away. 6 days before my surgery they call me and say oh we need you to come in just for a routine talk with the anesosiologist because my BMI is high, I give them my height and weight over the phone. They called me on wednesday, asked me to come in on Friday, my surgery was scheduled for Tuesday. Then they call me Thursday and leave a voicemail asking me to call back. When I call back the lady says oh if your surgery is Tuesday we call you the day before, I was like no someone called me i have an appointment tomorrow then she was like oh. So I get transferred to some lady who is oh can you come in at 230 instead of 3, I'm like i will try. So I show up for my appointment, the receptionist is pretty rude, I say i have an appointment at 3 but they asked me to show up earlier (i got there at 230) the nurses assistant ignored me when i asked a few questions then when the nurse or whoever it was comes, she just says oh well we can't do the surgery here because your BMI is to high. THE SURGERY WAS SCHEDULED FOR A MONTH, THEY COULD HAVE TOLD ME A FEW DAYS BEFORE. THEY COULD HAVE MADE THIS APPOINTMENT FOR WEEKS AGO. THEY COULD HAVE TOLD ME WHEN I GAVE THEM MY HEIGHT AND WEIGHT OVER THE PHONE. I HAD TO CANCEL ANOTHER TREATMENT FOR ANOTHER CONDITION IN ORDER TO GO TO THEIR APPOINTMENT WHERE THEY JUST CANCELLED MY SURGERY BECAUSE OF MY WEIGHT, WHEN THEY ALREADY KNEW MY WEIGHT!!!!!!!! I am definitely glad i am not having surgery there though, i mean if just scheduling a surgery and going on for a simple appointment is too complicated for them in sure actual medical things are way to much for them. read more

Just had a terrible experience with this place. Don't go here if you are diabetic, they're not experienced. They did not advise me that my blood sugar had to be in a specific range until after I was prepped and lying on the gurney ready for surgery. So they sent me home, all my preparations and taking off work and getting rides arranged was for nothing. I met with the doctor the week before and told him I was diabetic, he said don't worry about it. A nurse called me the day before and we talked about it, she told me to take only half my insulin dose so I wouldn't go too low on the operating table. Nobody said anything about too high, though. A total waste of time and my body is not fixed. I can't trust them now and need to find another place for surgery. read more

This review is for the Ryan Ranch facility, although the Cass St. and Munras Ave. facility are just as awesome. My husband came here for lithotripsy surgery for some huge kidney stones. The front desk staff was very sweet, courteous and helpful. My husband was taken back within 15 minutes of our arrival. Once back there his nurse Marianna (sp.) was great. She was kind, courteous, funny, personable and very professional as well as his OR nurse Ana, both super nice and efficient. After my husband was all prepped and ready to go, Dr. Shaheen came in to talk with us both. When he saw how much pain my husband was in he called Dr. Mitchell the anesthesiologist in right away and Dr. Mitchell hooked him up with some drastically needed pain medication before they even got to the operating room. My husband was good after that. His surgery went well and he is doing great now (3 days later). They even called him later to see how he was feeling. We would highly recommend this surgery center. Friendly and caring staff, no long waits, all were helpful and informative and it is a very CLEAN and well kept facility. There are no parking problems either. You will be in great hands at this facility. read more
