Dr. Nov and his staff are top notch. Always welcoming. Always professional. And always compassionate especially when in there for more difficult procedures which I have done several times over the last few years. While small, another nice touch of his practice is that he has hundreds of movies that you can watch during a procedure through glasses that you wear during your procedure. Finally, his staff has the scheduling and billing down to a science. They are very accommodating when I need to reschedule and the only time I ran into an insurance issue, they were great in helping me understand the issue and getting it resolved. Dr Nov has been a life saver for me! I had a terrible experience with a dentist many years ago and that led to me being so terrified I didn't visit a dentist for a decade despite a lot of pain. A trusted friend referred my to Dr Nov, and my teeth were getting so bad, I knew I needed to bite the bullet and go in. I reached out and explained my paralyzing fear and actually needed a sedative just to go in for X-rays. Dr Nov was so kind and reassuring. I was not only terrified, I was also embarrassed at how bad my teeth were but Dr Nov and his team handled my situation with such care I started the long process. After handling the worst of it, I was no longer in pain for the first time in years. Now 6 years later, I have gone through crowns, root canals, implants and even Invisalign. This dentist treated me until 6 years ago. He did over a dozen treatments on me, from fillings to a root canal. He recommended wisdom tooth extractions and diagnosed TMJ disorder and sold me on treatments for my grinding problem which he said I had. He sent me off to a maxillofacial surgeon for some of these. When he explained the significance of these treatments to me, they always sounded necessary. He is very good at explaining how not doing a treatment today could affect me horribly many years down the line. Now, a few years after moving away from the area and being treated by other dentists, I know how much Dr Nov exploited me by telling me about problems I did not have with my teeth. I never had a TMJ disorder and I never had any pain. I never had a grinding problem. He most likely guessed that I had a grinding problem because I have strong masseter muscles, but everyone in my family has strong masseter muscles. It is hereditary, not a grinding problem. The grinding surfaces of my teeth still have the same exact structures as they had when they first sprouted out. I proved this by comparing with pictures and ceramic molds of my teeth before and after orthodontia during my early teen years. There is no evidence of any grinding. I never needed the root canals. The copies of my X-rays prior to the root canals indicated that I only needed simple fillings. The other fillings were appropriate, but I needed them because the previous fillings were improper. I had one wisdom tooth extracted (as per Dr Nov's advice) because it was impacted (not because it hurt), but I left the other 3 wisdom teeth on their own (as per my dad's advice, and against Dr Nov's advice) because these teeth have grown out very well. I made the mistake of going to Dr Nov for a cleaning appointment and then trusting everything he said he found in my mouth. Every year after that, I had to visit at least one doctor if not himself, because he made me believe that I had a problem that needed urgent attention. How could I not trust him? He talks really nice and he is very polished and he has great manners. His staff treats you exceptionally well. He has good-looking facilities (which I now realize is commonly found at many top dentists offices). And he gets the best ratings, including on this site (which I did not check when I was his patient - I doubt if this site was around then). 6 years ago when I moved away, two of my fillings from Dr Nov cracked and caused some pain. I got them filled by a new dentist. I have had not needed any fillings in the last 5 years. Other than cleaning appointments twice a year, I do not need to visit a dentist. My teeth have been healthier now than in the years that Dr Nov took care of my teeth. I am sure I am bad business for the dentists. I disagree with the people who have posted here to say that Dr Nov will not suggest unnecessary treatments. Most of my treatments were unnecessary. read more

I heard a lot of good things about this dentist, and maybe others have had better experiences, but here is what I did not like about this dentist, and why I switched after 1.5-2 years with him. 1) They are REALLY strict about you being on time; which is fine. I'm prompt and get how one late appointment will screw everyone else up. But after going here for 2 years, I hated that I almost always had to wait to be seated. Seems kind of double standard. 2) I feel like they SUPER book their patients. I guess they're busy, which is great for them, but I hardly ever get any one on one time with the dentist. Usually the hygienist does all the work, Dodi waltzes and and kinda of gives you a 'everything looks fine', then leaves. I feel more like a drive through window customer than a patient. 3) Charges. I don't like being charged for something I don't know about. I wish they would review the cost of their services before I find out later that my insurance didn't cover it. The dentist I go to now CALLs the insurance company for me, then tells me what is covered and what is not. 3) I was recommended wisdom tooth removal, and quickly referred to only ONE Oral surgeon who wanted $3000+ to remove my 4 teeth. I visited him, and the whole operation from receptionist to doctor seemed.... shady. Upscale shady. Dodi didn't make me feel like I could ask questions about my wisdom teeth removal options, because I always felt rushed, and he seemed pretty sure I needed my wisdom teeth out so I trusted him. My dentist NOW, took the time to sit with me, consult with me, answer ALL my questions, and told me to be honest at this point in my life if they are not bothering me, there is no benefit (or lessor pain) in taking them out. He took a note to keep checking my teeth, and would let me know if I needed them out. I finally know what a real dentist who cares about his patients (not customers) is like, and I will never come back. read more

Oh Dr Nov, how I waited two full months before I got the first appointment with you. Good, I didn't need a root canal or you would have seen me with one tooth less. I wanted Nov to be my dentist because I read great reviews about him ( the authenticity of which I seriously doubt now). I went for bi-annual checkup/cleaning. I have been there twice and the experience was similar both the times. The hygienist dug the probe in my jaw and her nails in my cheek quite a few times. And where was Dr Nov? Like another reviewer said, he just said 'Hi" passing by but he didn't stop to check my teeth. And of course they push you for Xrays and then they take it without checking whether insurance covers it or not. I got a bill and when explained that I was there for cleaning only and specifically asked them to not take Xrays unless completely covered, they agreed to not charge me. I hope they learn their lesson and wouldn't push for Xrays so much. And what's with the 72 hours cancellation policy? Hefty fee if you don't cancel 72 hours before the appointment. Dodi is the best Dentist I have have ever been to. I've been seeing Dodi for about 7 years and I schlep over the 520 to see him in Bellevue though I live and work in Seattle. A couple of specific reasons I like his work. Helpful staff in bookings and insurance stuff. They are OK booking via email which is a huge help. I'm obviously no dental expert, but you can tell Dodi really looks into what's happening and handles each situation with care and craftsmanship. He's happy to explain what should be done now and what can be put off. His equipment is modern! Warm water spray and latest tech. Also he has sun glasses, headphones and other stuff to make the experience more comfortable. Dodi also follows up personally to see if everything is OK. I really hate, *hate* seeing the dentist. Thankfully I can count on Dodi to make it suck a heck of a lot less. I wish he'd move his practice to Seattle, but until then, count me in. read more

I approach dentists and doctors, at least for standard checkups, the same way I do gas stations - almost anything "remarkable" is likely to be negative, and there's not much remarkable. I've had positive experiences at Dr. Nov's office so far, and I've been going there for 3 years now. His hygenists, who I spend far more time with than him, are professional, as far as I can tell are doing a good job based on my dental health, and do not cause pain while cleaning. His office is clean, well-kept and the rooms are spacious and have a decent view. Dodi himself is professional and personable, although full disclosure requires me state that I haven't had anything besides checkups since my initial visit. From looking at my statements, it looks his prices are a bit high compared to what I used to see in NJ. I am insured through my employer so it's not really a concern for me, but something to keep in mind if you're planning on visiting him without dental coverage. read more

One of the best dentists I've ever had. He seems geared towards techie folks, understanding how much we enjoy specific, detailed technical information. When I was there, you could wear goggles and watch movies while they worked on your teeth. The hygienists were very nice and kind. His office is imbecably clean and easy to get to. I was a patient of Dr. Nov for over 10 years, and throughout that time, was very satisfied with the care I received. From cleanings to fillings, I never had any concerns that I was in good hands. Likely because of the quality of care, the office is very busy. While it's possible to book an appointment 6+ months out, if you need to make a change, you are most likely to be placed on a cancellation list, in which they would call you if someone else cancels. If your schedule allows you to drop everything on short notice (sometimes as little as 15 minutes) to head to the dentist, this would be ok, but this system was difficult for me. To make things worse, I had 3 appointments in a row cancelled by the office due to hygienist absences. I'm told cancellation like this are rare and I just had bad luck, but for me, this became the norm. Further, the way it was dealt with was to put me on that same cancellation list, where I need to hope the stars align for me to get an opening. This is completely disrespectful of my time, and not a way to treat your customers. I'd encourage Dr. Nov to take a step back and consider if it's wise to continue to take on new patients when he is unable to serve his existing ones adequately. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Nov for almost 10 years now. In reading some of the other posts from reviewers it appears that the amount of time with Dr. Nov himself and the cost are the two biggest complaints. Provided that my check-up and cleaning went, well I did have similar experiences. Dr. Nov, would simply come in, do a quick inspection, check for mouth cancer, and then leave. Frankly I didn't think this was a bad thing. You only get the dentists time if you need it and more often than not I didn't need it. There were a few times that I had questions for him and he always took the time to answer them. I did require a couple fillings a few years ago and I thought that it was handled very well. Dr. Nov talked me through everything and I didn't have any complications afterwards. read more

Can't say enough about Dr. Nov and his practice. While on a bike trip in Switzerland, had a crash knocking out 4 front teeth. Emailed Dr. Nov while I was still in Swiss ER. This happened on a Saturday, I returned home Monday, they started treatment Tuesday morning. The staff maintains a schedule, (very respectful of others) and keeps things moving. I have been seeing Dr Nov for many years, but recently switched because he was out of network for my dental plan. The staff would not transfer my records because I owed a small balance on a treatment that did not work. That is another story. It is illegal to withhold records! Hope this is a zero star option. I have been a patient of Dr. Dodi Nov for more than 7 years. On 2/26/2015, I had a extremely bad cleaning session with one of his oral hygienist Kathy, who appeared too be absent-minded and hurt my gum multiple times. I had to stop the session half way through. I followed up with an email requesting no charge for the aborted session and the make-up session. Dr. Nov agreed. However, after the make-up session on 3/10/2015, Jan at the front desk was rude to me and nullified all previous agreements. Throughout the process, there was no apology or even a simple "sorry" from any of the employees, including Dr. Nov himself. I'm done with his practice, because of bad service quality and them being not trustworthy even with written agreements. Let's see how the record transfer works. The next one star comment makes me think that I probably need to waste more time on this. I'm just relieved that it's going to be a one-time cost before I never see them again. read more

I heard a lot of good things about Dr Nov and decided to visit him. The first appointment went ok where he explained that I need to get root canal done. Since it was so expensive, I decided to get it done from my mom's brother who is a dentist in Chicago. After a few months, I took a cleaning appointment. Some lady hygenist did the cleaning. Inspite of my telling her that I have got my root canal and crowning done from Chicago, she did not pay attention. She had my old X-rays and started cleaning my teeth. After cleaning Result: after a few days I developed pain in the tooth that had the crown. Apparantly, she took out the cement while cleaning. I spoke to my uncle and he told me that special care needs to be taken while cleaning crowns which was not done. That caused the issue. I had to visit doc Nov, and he tried to convince me that the crowning was not done properly in the first place. He takes a xray and then sends me to a root canal speacialist telling me that the root canal is not fine as well. I happened to visit my Uncle in Chicago again and he did not find any issues. He said that there was a little infection because cleaning was not done properly. He gave me a medicine and everything was fine. Dr. Nov did not even care to prescribe me any medicine. He tried to convince me that I get the root canal done again and crowning as well. According to him, the root canal had failed. I did not tell him that my mom's real brother is a dentist and it is very easy for me to consult him. It has been several months now and I am perfectly fine. If I would not have had consulted my uncle, he would have had ripped 3000$ from my pocket. Charges : They always overcharge. The rates are very high. For my cleaning, I was overcharged, and when I asked why is it different from what the estimate was, they gave me some weird explanation which I did not understand. Then they told me that xray will be covered and a few weeks later I get a bill from them saying that I owe them for xray. I don't know why was I not told about this earlier. Another rip off. I have completely lost trust in Doctor Nov and will not recommend him at all. read more

I have some similar experience like others. They are very strict with time and were very rude when I went a little late. Both the front Desk and Dodi Nov have been rude.. It has so happened that I always have been ended up doing root canal treatment from the time I have been to this dentist. Dr Luis Avilles, the doc who does the root canal is a gem of a person and is awesome. But the one time I went to do the deep cleaning to Dr Dodi Nov, it was HORRIBLE. They would drill and clean the teeth, flush it with water and all of the dirty water would go in my throat!! And I had no option but swallow it and gag as it was a yucky feeling! Each time I gaged, the Dr would say, it's ok to swallow! I felt that the assistants there in his clinic have no exp..and were very rough. read more

I've been a patient of Dr Nov's for a few years- as was my husband. He left as a patient last year because he was frustrated with the scheduling of appointments, the cost of services and the minimal time Dr. Nov actually spent with him. I didn't have quite the same experience. The pros for me: The quality of care seems really high. The hygenists who have worked on me have been lovely and gentle and make going to the dentist 'not so bad'. The office is very conveniently located for my work and I've found that it's pretty easy to reach them. The equipment is top notch and his relationship with the dental surgeon next door makes things helpful. His office has also found some creative way to bill so that more than just two cleanings per year were covered by insurance. Dr. Nov is very friendly and seems to know what he is doing. The cons for me: The cost is really high. If you need anything other than basic services (cleanings) that are covered by insurance you can expect to pay dearly. It's REALLY hard to get an appointment. If you need to reschedule a cleaning you an expect to not get in for MONTHS. If you, even once, miss an appointment, you will be charged a pretty big penalty. My biggest issue is that Dr. Nov spends about 1 minute with me during my visit. He breezes in and out super quickly at the end of the visit, but from what I have seen it's the hygenists who do all the real work and provide all the true service. Bottom line: I'll keep going for now because I have too much other stuff going on to switch dentists, but eventually I'll likely switch to someone who is more available to patients. read more

The first time I let it go. It happened today and Dodi is now my ex dentist. I've been Dodi Nov's patient for over 8 years now. He does great work and has a great team working for him. His office works like a clock. And while not everybody likes that but I understand that when I value their time by coming on time they value mine by not making me wait for a half an hour like other doctors do due to their patients being late. As every dentist here in the US he advises to get rid of wisdom teeth :) I just nod and ignore :) What I love about him is that he does a great job at doing crowns, makes sure the color matches perfectly.
