Hi Bari, I appreciate your response, but several important facts need clarification: When we initially contacted you nearly two months ago our puppy was only 9 weeks old. We had specific training goals, and we wanted to start immediately to establish a strong foundation. She is now 17 weeks old and after our email to you on February 2nd we have attempted to contact you four separate times (via email, Yelp, NextDoor, and US mail) with no response until now. As I've explained, we've already established a relationship with another trainer and are happy with our progress. While I appreciated the introductory phone call explaining your philosophy and the emailed articles, these were preliminary to the actual training session we paid for. The $190 payment was specifically for the virtual training session with our 9-week-old puppy that never occurred. Had this been a misunderstanding, there have been multiple opportunities to clarify, including on February 3rd. When we set our appointment it was to accommodate your schedule, as you were not available till even later in the evening the day before. We had explained that we were flexible, but that scheduling a training session for our puppy late in the evening was not setting her up for success. If anything but a late evening training session was going to be problematic for your schedule this could have been communicated during the introductory call, rather than taking our payment and then not responding to our emails. At this point, we simply need you to process the $190 reimbursement without further delay. The payment was for a service that was not delivered, and we have made multiple respectful requests, including a certified letter with a March 21st deadline which has now passed without resolution. While we are preparing to proceed with the legal remedies outlined in that communication, we would still prefer to resolve this matter directly and promptly with a full refund of the $190 payment for the virtual training which was never delivered. read more

We contacted Bari upon recommendation of our Vet (Mid-Peninsula Animal Hospital). She has been amazing! We started with lessons over Zoom as our pup had Giardia and we saw great improvements. Yesterday we had our first in person (now that the Giardia is gone!) and it was amazing. Our little guy was pulling on the leash and barking at other dogs as we passed. My tibetan mastiff puppy has grown up, he sits, stays, walks on the leash, comes to me (mostly), sit stays, and is so well behaved around people and dogs. I would highly recommend the puppy and beginner classes for anyone who is serious about their dog's future behavior, and more importantly training for the owner as we need to learn this stuff. So many folks walk their dog wrongly (eg. Walking behind and letting their dog pull them). Learning with Bari who herself has large dogs has made me a knowledgeable dog owner and confident handling any size dog, anytime. The big test was walking a fostered german shepherd -while visiting a friend one of the other guests had the hardest time walking one of the dogs (it pulled, ran in all directions, etc.). When I gave the dog a try, I was fully in control and the dog was happily walking (had a Caesar Milan moment) by my side. If you have a big dog or one that needs good handling, start here. I signed up for puppy classes with my italian mastiff when he was 5 months old. there were no other large breed dogs in the group. on top of it, he was scared and barking-- so everyone else was afraid of him. the trainers labeled him as agressive, and said I needed to be giving him rescue remedy, and three other calming techniques at every class and outing, as well as have a caution leash to stay in the classes. I bought everything they recommended the first class, I shouldn't have but I was too stressed out and figured I should get whatever they recommended; rescue remedy, martingale collar, caution lead, thunder shirt, adaptil collar & adaptil diffuser. two of the products weren't actually what was even in the box when I got home and opened things. I decided to pull my puppy from the class and find a place that was more familiar and able to help me train my puppy as he was, with no rescue remedy, and to help him overcome his fears. I requested a refund, as I only went to orientation(no dogs), and then the first class in the series when dogs were supposed to attend. I have never received anything, and it's now months later. they say they are trying to correspond with me via email, but never got anything in my inbox or junk. Bari offered one private lesson instead of going through the group classes, which i declined. she also recommended I consider sending my dog to a board and train facility in oregon for agressive dogs. the whole point is for the owner to train the dog?! my puppy was scared, and acting out of fear. he may have seemed agressive that day. but in 99.9% of the rest of his life, this is not the case. I since found an awesome training facility in San Jose, CALI K9 Solutions, that knows and understands the breed, had my dog calm around in 5 minutes of meeting and working with him for the evaluation, and he is now a completely different puppy. We went through some private lessons first, and now are attending group classes as well which are located in public parks. I don't think that I would have made this much progress if I would have stayed through dog days. read more

I want my dog to take the Canine Good Citizen test, but he sometimes barks at other dogs when he's on-leash, which would be grounds for failing the test. Other than that he is very well-behaved. I tried to enroll my dog in a $160 Dog Days course and was told I would have to do a $95 private lesson first to ensure he would not be disruptive! I asked whether the private lesson was required for all dogs and it is not, but because I said my (75lb) dog sometimes barks at other dogs it was required for him. (I'm sure this would not be the case if I had a 25lb dog.) After sharing this with another local dog owner, she shared that she had enrolled her dog in this same course and dropped out (without a refund) after being disappointed with how discipline was handled. (Since I wasn't there, I won't include details.) I enrolled my dog in a course at the San Mateo Dog Training Club (www.SMDTC.com) instead. My shepherd goes out w Bari's team once a week. She usually goes with the same walker each time and my dog adores her! But even if it's not the regular walker, I have found them all to be super reliable and great with dogs (since they pick up the dog while I am out, it is very important to me to be able to completely trust the dog walker). They will also leave notes on how and what the dog did during the outing. Since my dog initially had some issues with other dogs and needed more socialization, I also took many classes with Dog Days (incl. some initial private sessions with Bari to sharpen my handling skills). The classes are well run and all instructors are very professional. I also appreciated the large variety of classes offered as we progressed, anywhere from basic obedience, to agility, to Canine Good Citizen testing, and many more. I had a terribly frustrating experience working with Bari for an in-home puppy consultation. Bari arrived 30 minutes late (Bay Area afternoon traffic was the culprit but that's predictable and should have been accounted for) and had to leave our session early--yet still charged me the full fee for the meeting! I had plenty of additional questions that went unanswered in our shortened time together. Bari encouraged me to have my kids (ages 5 and 6) there which made sense, but with the delay, after-school exhaustion and approaching-dinner hunger, the kids' were a distraction from being able to focus on Bari or the puppy. I was unable to take any notes with the barrage of information and small beings demanding my attention. In the chaos, I also felt like Bari was pushing her wares onto me and ended up buying a bunch of things without being able to think them through. For example, she sold me some dog treats which she claimed were the same as the ones used in the lesson (which my puppy loved), and yet when I opened them the next day, the dog didn't like them, they were a different shape, texture, and moistness--totally different from what we used prior. This hour of my life was utterly chaotic and very frustrating and I'm down a few hundred dollars to boot. read more

We adopted a newfie and figured we would take a training class with the newfie expert Bari. She came to our house for a private lesson and it was extremely helpful. We had a newf in the past that we trained, and our rescue was already fairly well trained already but it was a great refresher. Two great things we got out of it 1. A list of words so that the whole family is using the same words consistently. This was important to help us all teach her the same thing. 2. I have worked with Bari and Dog Days for over 20 years. First with a Rottweiler who could have been dangerously tricky but became a total star of puppy class and life. Now with a stubborn little French Bulldog puppy, Bari is helping wonders happen again. I need to stress that Bari works with the whole human-dog relationship. She has her expert views but also is sympathetic that real families can only adjust so much. For example, I can barely cook for myself and hubby, so it is unlikely I can provide great, thoughtful, organic home made meals for my dog. She is fine with that and does not judge. It has been several years since my lab/Aussie mix had both private and group lessons from Bari, Sweetie and staff. Kai was so terrified when we first got him that he would hide behind my planter boxes. When I tried to walk him, he would just sit down and refuse to budge. Bari's beautiful Newfoundland, Sweetie took him under her wing and ran interference with other puppies in the class when they were more friendly than Kai could handle. He felt very safe when Sweetie was near and gradually gained the confidence needed to join the class. I can't imagine that happening without her presence. The classes were great and really helped me learn what I needed to know to work with Kai. I highly recommend Dog Days, even though dear Sweetie recently passed away. She is particularly good at getting all members of a family "on the same page" when it comes to training all ages of dogs-from puppies to oldsters. I have had 2 private lessons with Bari and I also joined Nancy's beginners class. I can honestly say these gals are FANTASTIC!! They were patient and kind to my shy Vizsla. I found them to be very knowledgeable. Bari suggested that I try Rescue Remedy (that you can buy directly from her) and it worked very well with my dog. I noticed a difference the first time I used it on her. She has nervous bowels when we walk and for the first time she had normal stools. I would definitely recommend Dog Days to anyone! read more

I got a 6 month old pup in Dec and she had no training what so ever. I signed her (and me) up for the AKC STAR Puppy class and tonight is the final class. I'm very happy with the great trainers and helpful hints on other dog related things...like mouthing. We just love Dog Days Woodside Star Puppy training at Woodland School This is the perfect way to get you and your young pup working effectively together from the first impressionable weeks. We first brought our puppy Joy to class at 11 weeks, just two weeks after we brought her home. Safe, well-structured socialization activities got us off on the right foot with other dogs and people. Basic obedience exercises and homework helped our family get on the same page nurturing, training and talking to our young dog. All of us were encouraged to come together and it was so helpful.
